  1. As we've had a hosepipe ban for a few weeks now, and for the foreseeable future, the car's been neglected, and not been washed for ages...ttok it to the local car wash earlier, then finished it off giving a wipedown with Poorboys QD, tyres dressed with Chemical Guys tyre dressing, and plastics renovated with Nanolex trim rejuvenator. A couple of days ago, I used the Gtechniq 2-stage polish and water repellant treatment on the sides and rear window (mine's not got a rear wiper, so was getting fed up with the constantly dirty window!). Even in anonymous "Uber" spec, it's quite a handsome wagon when it's clean...not that I'm biased at all 😅 Have a great weekend all!
  2. Skoda Bi-directional charging
  3. I might have interpreted this wrongly but isn’t it about permits so will affect Cardiff residents but not visitors ? To be honest doing it on weight is lazy. People with vans for work are penalised unfairly. It will include a lot of EVs so maybe it is a way to tax them, my Elroq is 2457kg gvw so would fall foul of it. Like Graham, my previous Škoda Superb estate would be ok but takes up more space….
  4. I doubt you would notice any difference. I have used XL (98) winter tyres on the front axle and felt no difference in terms of handling/ sidewalll stiffness. On another car I had previously replaced the skinny spacesaver spare with a full sized wheel and a spare tyre that happened to be XL rated - and when used, felt no difference to the standard load tyre it replaced for a long journey home
  5. You're as bad as the MacMaster with your clickbait 😄
  6. Just in case anyone was interested, I ended up calling the AA out, was told it was 100% a fuel pump issue, replaced the fuel pump, and the issue wasn't solved (£100 down the toilet). Had a couple of mates come over, checked the fuel filter (all clear), checked the air filter (just in case), and when one of my mates rang one of their mates we were pointed at the secondary fuel pump (I think that's what it's called, the one next to the fuel filter). I unplugged the fuel pressure valve (I'd been looking at the one on the fuel rail), the dash light vanished, and it started immediately. Praise be.
  7. Exactly, they want to charge people driving Chelsea Tractor type things known as SUV but they are going to get trades people, people with company vans, people with wheelchair accessible vehicles, those that need a slightly higher vehicle or 7 seaters. It is a sledgehammer to crack a nut. If it is just on residential permits then a visitor can still sail into Cardiff with a V 8 petrol Range Rover at no extra cost.
  8. "The vote, taking place today (Thursday 16 October) at Cardiff City Council, could see the Welsh capital be the first city in the UK to introduce a parking surcharge for vehicles over a specified weight limit. In this instance, cars weighing over 2,400kg will be subject to the as-of-yet unspecified additional charge – a threshold that will be reduced to 2,000kg for non-electric cars over time. Vehicles weighing more than 3,500kg won’t be allowed a permit at all" Councils looking for ways to raise money due to Government cuts?
  9. So your assumption is that cells will catch fire, only question is what happens afterwards. Whereas everything single statistical analysis, including a video you've shared, shows well managed battery cells self igniting are vanishingly rare.
  10. Sorry to hear that. I've heard off a couple of other peeps in the past who have removed their Koni shocks due to knocking. No fix. Bad design.
  11. Can it be that it remained "stuck" in what should be the turn indicator, and instead of blinking remains steady?
  12. Bit of knack.Don't stand to close (keys in pocket) try a few different types of kicks slow to fast hopefully it'll work for you. i find it either works first time or takes a few attempts
  13. I remember from my Department of Transport time that road damage related to axle weight is to the forth power so 10% more weight does about half as much more road damage. Also, in general, survivability of cyclists and pedestrians is worse when that group is hit by these bluff SUV shaped vehicles compared to low saloons. It can really split what versions of models would get hit. My 60 kwh Scenic would be OK but the 90 kwh Scenic will get whacked. Lots of the German and mid and bigger pseudo German ie SEAT and Skoda cars would get whacked with this higher parking charge and we saw this with the Paris rules on this. They went big on this as I recall the extra charge was 3 times I think for heavy Chelsea tractors. The road damage and greater risk to others may give councils the reasons they need.
  14. This feature is known by Skoda as the " Virtual Pedal" The opening instruction is : Open: Make a quick kicking motion under the rear bumper to make the boot open automatically.
  15. If you drive a good way at 120km/h either side of your 2-4km drives in the City a Diesel will be fine. But if if you are going to compromise and go for five seats and have a driveway i would buy an Enyaq 85
  16. What 'fifteen minute cities' @Graham Butcher ? Do any actually exist in the UK of GB & NI?

    Read up on Hypermiling. 🙂👍
  18. I believe the non-Kessy keys use CR2025 and the Kessy ones CR2032. I replaced batteries in both of the Kessy keys on my previous MY2021 Karoq. Used Panasonic batteries bought on Amazon. Both times just removed old battery & replaced with new one, worked fine. Only difficulty is getting the fob open in the first place!. Haven't had to replace any on current car yet (that's tempting fate!) , which reminds me, need to put spare battery in wallet!
  19. That’s not my understanding. Can you elaborate please, as I thought they are allowed, in the right circumstances for them to be used correctly. Gaz
  20. Afternoon all, been away for a while since I sold the Octy VRS but back in the fold now having just acquired a Yeti 4x4 Always found this a great site so looking forward to picking up some Yeti related tips and tricks, ordered a load of accessories so far but need to sort the digital display to read in MPH :-)
  21. Let's hope so!! Always fancied one but this one has done a few miles so a little bit of a gamble :-)
  22. Hello @CFBScout and welcome back! Gotta love a Yeti.

Hi. I´m from Portugal. Have a Felicia Fun 1.9D since 2000 with 320 000 km. I was searching for a few tips and this forum always popped up with useful info, so it seemed a good idea to join!
  24. 1 point
Thank you. It's not easy maintaining Felicia because replacement parts are running out. I'm doing some repairs myself because the mechanic doesn't have time to do the detailed work of adapting parts.
  25. EH??? whatt a stupid thing to say... are the 'majority' not able to use lifts and ramps? Yes - they are - and providing them includes for everybody. Not providing them doesn't.
  26. Yes, you are right, not noticed that before, apart from that, I don't think that there is anything remotely sporting about a Kodiaq 😀
  27. Now let me see, hmm, NO, not everyone is capable of it, especially as you approach the twilight years, as you will experience firsthand as you get into that period of your life, will you be happy with effectively being shut out of things purely because of your age or disability? Hell, it took years to get access ramps built in some places so wheelchair users can have access to the things that able-bodied people can access??? What will they think of next, lets scrap lifts and escalators and make people use stairs, and if they can't, well tough luck?? As I have repeatedly said, people come in all sizes and shapes and abilities, so smaller cars is not an option for some, granted for many people large and powerful cars are used as a status symbol, a way flaunting one's wealth and inflated importance, but in reality there is huge difference between a Skoda Kodiaq 5 seat 110KW TDI DSG 4x4 @1709kg and Range Rover PHEV weighing in at a staggering 2770kg, equally there is a huge difference in the costs, one is more affordable family car option, the other is real luxury car which can be as much as £194,745, which could buy you 5 Kodiaqs. What I think they have also managed to completely overlook is most SUV's and indeed larger BEV's also happen to come with wider and larger tyres, so arguably exert less weight per sq cm then a normal car, so therefore do less damage to the roads?
  28. The Welsh capital heading to become the first city to charge heavy SUVs, electric ones too, extra for being SUVs..... Paris did similar a year or so ago..... https://www.aol.co.uk/news/cardiff-becomes-first-uk-council-164313745.html Cardiff council will force drivers with larger vehicles to pay more for parking, becoming the first local authority in the UK to impose a parking premium to combat the dangers of larger vehicles. Councillors voted on Thursday to approve a new parking plan for the city whereby owners of larger vehicles will be charged more for parking permits because their cars “take up more parking space and are a danger to other road users”. The plan states that vehicles that weigh more than 2,400kg fully laden will be subject to a surcharge “to encourage drivers to switch to smaller vehicles”; Sorry Graham, this includes the 2019 Kodiaq with diesel engine and auto gearbox which is 2458kgs GVW I understand. Likely to spread in to more cities. Quite clever as it picks out heavier diesel engine cars and their high NOX perhaps ? @Graham Butcher
  29. Some excellent tyres are always a good investment for improving your car's performance. As @nta16 suggested, absolutely tip-top servicing and good-quality fuel will also help you get the best out of your car. For performance, reduce weight if at all possible, and keep your car super clean. Then I suggest you lean-into the low power. With a low-power car you can used all the available engine power more of the time. Conservation of momentum and maintaining speed is important, so you'll learn to drive better, finding the best line, when to brake, how much to brake. You won't inflate your insurance cost (Morning Dan!), and you won't knacker your car by over-stressing components. And when it comes to sell the car, all you've done to it is service it perfectly, kept it clean and used great tyres & good fuel, so you'll get the most money back on the car when it comes to replace it. Seriously, embrace the low power as a feature, not a problem. Don't tune the car, use the car to tune yourself. 👍 (Of course I expect you to completely ignore this advice and fit an induction kit and a noisy exhaust, but that's cool. 😄)
  30. You should also check if the twist cap has been properly tightened as petrol could evaporate if the cap is not fully turned home.
  31. Let's not get carried away debating 14.6 Volts vs 14.8 Volts. That's not helping the guy solve his problem. So - to address the actual question . It is normal for a low battery warning to pop up at switch on if the car has been idle for a while, such as 2 or 3 weeks in the airport carpark when you go on holiday. This may also occur if the car is only used for very short trips as the battery has never had the opportunity to fully charge. There is actually a considerable dip in voltage as soon as the door is opened, and more when ignition is switched on. This is what triggers the annoying low voltage warning. However, as Johngerard said above this will result in charging at the higher rate (14.6 or 14.8 i.e. something above 14.4 ) immediately after start up. How long it charges at the higher rate depends on what the BMS/BCM thinks is the battery state of charge - could be a few seconds or several miles. If this is not happening then there is some problem with the battery or charging circuit and controls. New battery was fitted and coded - Did you enter your VIN in your friends VCDS in order to do the coding - and did you enter a new serial number for the battery as well as new parameters ? If not the new code may not have been saved -so BMS doesn't know it has new battery. If the previous owner fitted mods (those LEDs) did he/she do any other changes ? Has the battery monitoring module on the battery negative terminal been removed? bypassed? disconnected? Has coding been changed to try to permanently disable Stop-Start? Don't forget the basics - a poor connection anywhere in the charging/battery circuit will upset the system. Does the voltage measured at the alternator match the measurement at the battery when charging? In one case we had similar problems to this with a Fabia TDi which turned out to be a poor connection of the engine earth strap which had burned/corroded after not being properly cleaned and tightened after the Skoda dealer did the cambelt and water pump. Hope this at least helps you to know where to look ! Goog luck! Please report back if you find the solution so others can find help when they need it.
  32. Another thing you may not know, and again I assume the 4.5 is the same - you don't actually need to manually release the EPB, if you put the car in gear and drive off (reverse or forwards) it releases automatically.
  33. Haha. and to think that there are some here who are in denial that these cables are being stolen and also that chargers that the MacMaster and others say are broken are staged for clickbait, jeez.... One thing though, you certanly don't hear of thieves stealing filling hoses from a filling station 😁. I must admit that I did have a chuckle when I read one of the other comments on the link you posted about siting them on McDonalds that are open 24/7 so will be plenty of people about, or have loads of CCTV cameras installed, which is precisely what they had at the Chelmsford site, cable still got nicked, even with their starring role in the movie.🤣🤣
  34. Few things since its been a while. Handbrake lever broke so robbed one out of the Mk1 vrs parts car, fits fine. Was easier got to than the mk2 parts car since its been stripped down. Also a slightly less worn wheel to go on mine. Full 180k service. Seen a pipercross filter for cheap so got it (new). Know full well it will make no performance difference. Full Oil/Air/Fuel/Pollen wipers etc. New n75 again and pedal pads as mine were slightly wore. Replaced two rough looking coolant pipes also. Small amount of fuzz on sump bung but nothing worrysome yet. New lhf arch liner as mine was damaged (genuine). Refitted all the undertrays. Got my "new" ar1s fitted. VERY tight fit. Did mondello end of last month with a mate. Extremely busy for something in the middle of the week. Car did well, suffered bigly from rubbing Tyre softener stuff worked brilliantly, as did the cetane booster from the same lad. Let it cool off proper between runs, standard cooling system is at its limit. I did refit the intercooler sprayer which helped. Think the tyres clearanced themselves over the day. Full credits to the photographer on the day Very nice picks for a not so fast car. Could be worse. Weighed all the wheels i had out of interest. Heaviest was the monte wheels with ar1s : 21kg Next was the monte wheels with PS4s :20.3kg Then the OZ superturismos :19.75kg Lastly the mk1 spyders at just: 16.6kg Basically 4kg a wheel lighter than my normal wheels. And i do think theyre the nicest wheels out of all of them. Most likely run them next time i need tires. Roped into doing mondello again end of the month, hopefully i can do kirkistown again too as it was brilliant. Mx5 if it passes mot next year will do the trackwork as ill be getting slicks for it very soon. Potentially getting turbo sorted start of next year. Funds allowing. Have all there but ill most likely do more work around it. I would like a 6 speed. Probably should put a new rad in also. Really if im swapping the turbo ill drop all out and do it out of the car. Not a small job in itself but itll be done. Providing it passes nct end of the year, get it over with before i do any major work.

39mpg on a commute to work 51mpg on a journey at the weekend with more free flowing roads. I am struggling to work out what the problem is. Did it used to read more on the commute?
  36. Yep, works on the 4.5 too. Thanks for the tip.
  37. Another thing that hasn't been mentioned, and I assume it's the same for the 4.5 - on my Mk4 vRS if you turn the ignition off with your foot on the brake it automatically puts it into Park and applies the handbrake (without Auto Hold on).
  38. I cancelled the garage visit as it seemed too expensive for them to diagnose the intermittent fault. What I did do, though, was unbolt the negative on the battery for 30 mins. It caused no end of fault codes, but they have all cleared now, and it hasn't happened since. The wipers have done one or two ghost wipes when in the off position, but I can live with that for now.
  39. All my modern cars (from 1979 onwards) speedos have read fast by up to 10%; strangely my 1937 Morris 8 is spot on at 40mph!
  40. I looked that up and got nothing 😬 (aside from some part number for something). Can’t believe my divorce joke didn’t win any awards 😢
  41. Hi Although I've no trouble with my Navigation and how it worrks here's a shot of a random street near where I live showing that according to Skoda(VAG), Germany won the war as England is now in Deutschland!
  42. It’s more anecdotal than indicative of anything - good time saving. The manual doesn’t show anything like those sorts of options by the looks of it. Tbh I tend to just use one of the ones on CarPlay - every time I think I know better than Waze I get it wrong; the only caveat is it relies on user data like the other main systems, just active reporting as well as macro data from speed etc.
  43. Welcome to the forum. Probably what has happened is that the catch has moved slightly from rebound with the 'extra' force shutting - take a look at both parts of the catch, they will probably have slotted mounting holes to allow for adjustment.
  44. I think its a dealer only (or someone with valid geko access for odis) job. When your new keys were created the old ones has been programmed off from the immobilizer system. The computer asks how many keys you want to program to the car and it will register those keys that you program on that time and every other key is removed from the system. I dont think its going to be very expensive job to do in dealer. I estimate its about 30min to 1 hour job. There is also a maximum amount of keys that can be programmed to a car, but i think 4 is not a problem.
  45. The below lists of increased ride height springs for the Superb MK3 are listed in order of stiffness, ie. the hierarchy. 5Q0411105HR increased ride height front springs might be suitable for a Superb MK3 2.0TSI/2.0TDI, ie. one of the heavier engined cars. 3Q0511115AS increased ride height rear springs might be suitable for a Superb MK3 FWD. 3Q0511115BA increased ride height rear springs might be suitable for a Superb MK3 4x4. The 4x4 uses slightly stiffer rear springs (perhaps two up in the hierarchy) than the FWD car, due to the extra weight of the 4x4 system. 46. its always posible to design some and 3d print it.
  47. Thank you for this links but you were saying that I can go with a DRL module to fix this problem. I want to avoid buying a new headlight only for this DRL. Maybe you can provide me a link to buy a new DRL module and not the entire headlight? Thank you again for your time.
  48. Or any DIY tutorials? I wanna try to change the module first. By the way is it normal after 5 years? I thought a LED will last longer.

Have you ever had problem ??? As that's all the code means????
  50. Hum, so are you suggesting having the option to walk to amenities within 15min is not a good thing? Because everything must cater to the minority that require a car? Installing lifts or ramps are good, but not if that involves removal of stairs and reduce throughput capacity for the majority. Same principle with 15min cities, give the majority option of walking to amenities. Interesting theory. I hadn't thought of that, thanks for pointing it out. Unfortunately tyre particulate emissions research seems to be in early stages, quick search didn't turn up anything researching this particular variable.
