  1. Congratulations on your new, to you, car. I would suggest that you do not modify anything on it for the first few weeks. Drive it, make sure EVERYTHING works as it should and enjoy it. If you do find any problems then the seller cannot blame them on anything that you have done.

White goods with wheels = much cheapness. Might as well put a 'Beko' badge on some IMO

Yep, Beginning of this year I was looking at new cars. Even Audi's with cloth manual seats with no option of electric adjustment, capacitive buttons, big touchscreen. And yes VW's with an interior quality that would match something American from the 90's. Ended up buying a a 2024 (Last of the Mk3's) Superb in L&K trim. I like a nice interior and it seems that isn't a selling point anymore.

I must walk about with a look of either disgust or contempt most of the time now. The quality of design right now is appalling completely bereft of any flare or actual style.

Are all new cars cheap cr.p at the moment? We have out ID3 and it's perfectly functional but I would suggest the internal quality compaired to cars of 5-10yr ago down the toilet and round the U bend. I was considering the scratchy plastics and thin seats etc and realised it reminded me of a Renault Clio I had in the early 2000, tbh the Clio had much superior seats. Looking around at new cars I have seen it's all flat panels, thin shiny plastics and even thinner shinier leather etc. Even on 'premium' models. My Subaru feels like a luxury tank compared to the ID3 and Sub is hardly a byword for luxury.
  6. Definitely get it looked at under warranty. Turns out the software on the mk4 Superb is atrocious - riddled with bugs and issues. Mine's booked in for a 3-day software update next month, which I'm told will hopefully solve a very long list of problems which I've encountered since purchasing six months ago. Apparently, updating from software baseline PV2 to PV4 (which, as far as I can tell, is pretty much what service campaign 90EE was all about) will resolve all my issues. We'll see...

Even the ID3 has some separate buttons for climate and volume, but they are capacitive and flat so you can't use them without looking. The steering wheel buttons are also capacitive but they do at least have some haptic feedback. However all seems a bit likely to fail longer term. A capacitive button having approx double the failure points of a mechanical option maybe much more if it's a simple button not a dial etc. Oh yeah and the apps as you say. You don't need to consider ongoing lowest bid or AI software development in your spring and hinge button.

It's the bling and other lighting carp that annoys me most. Seriously, who needs a full LED stripe across the front and rear with LED makers logos? And the apps. The bloody APPS! And bring back big buttons/ knobs/ dials to adjust the cabin temperature.

  10. Hi previous octavia owner, now after a few years away we have a Fabia. A 2016 Fabia 1.2 TSI SE Euro 6 (s/s) to be precise. we've only had it a week and i've driven it over the last few days with no issues. my wife took it to work for her first drive in it today, only a few minutes away, but when she came in she mentioned how hot the seat was. noooooo, i said, it doesnt have heated seats and it never got hot for me, i thought she was imagining it. however, i just took it for a quick drive with her, and almost before we'd got out of the drive it was getting hot, and by the time we'd got round the corner it was uncomfortably so. i cant understand whats happened as it wasnt like that over the last few days when ive been driving longer distances. Google/AI suggests it hasnt got the winter pack, and also suggests that itd have a button picturing a seat with wavy lines if so. there isnt one. why on earth is it heating up, and how can i switch it off?? btw, it was only the driver seat. my wife was sat in the passenger seat and that wasnt heating up. can anyone help us out here please? 🙂 thank you EDIT: well that was a swift resolution. AI suggested an aftermarket heating pad and sure enough, on the side of the seat theres a small button with 3 positions. i think my wife must have caught it when adjusting the seat, so we'd never have known about it if she hadnt caught it 😁

  12. On my SEL Edition with Columbus: Menu > Vehicle > Settings (bottom right) > Light
  13. I don't think the BCM powers the headlights. Will have a look at circuits later. I have pinouts for BCM somewhere, but doubt they'll be relevant.

Evening all 👋 Owned my 2005 fabia vrs for roughly 12 years, poor thing is in a state, slowly getting her back on the road 🙏 Needing to pick brains, hear this is the best place to absorb knowledge 😬

Evenin' @Sirward and glad you finally made it here
  16. Have you done a Factory reset through the settings menu. This has resolved most issues following the OTA update (there is a separate thread regarding the 1989 update). You will have to re-add yourself as the primary user, using both keys fibs, and any other user accounts but takes no real time and once you are logged back in your settings download from the Cloud. Finally re-pair your phone.
  17. My 2014 SE has an original DAB radio, so you may well have an appropriate aerial already.

I'd start with the leads, I had occasional misfires caused by corrosion on the caps. How old are the plugs?
  19. We need a proper scan in that case.....I will not comment further. It will be either the Rain, Humidity, Light sensor; the external temperature sensor, blocked heater matrix or low gas on the HVAC.
  20. All 4 installed and working great!
  21. Thanks. Will add wheels off and full check to the list
  22. Upon further inspection i found a snapped rear spring. It had broke off and gone up past the upper spring mount on the rear passenger side. Fitted a new spring and its absolutely perfect now
  23. I never had to configure my extension. I simply tapped into the existing lighting's power and LIN signal, and it worked immediately. MQB Classic Seat
  24. This is also my understanding of the BMS and EFB AGM battery technology as an operating strategy. Worst thing that can happen to a sealed efb or agm is over charging. Stop/start circuitry monitors for 80% if the car is below it disables. BMS aims to maintain above 80% but will not go to 100% because that would leave no headroom for engine braking regeneration.
  25. When running the battery voltage can be as low as 12.5V - if the BMS determines that the battery has reached 80% SOC. It's usually only over 14V for a short period after starting the engine, or when on trailing throttle (as a form of micro hybrid).
  26. Then the AliExpress LED does not allow PWM.

I could live with that but the ID3 I have with it's poverty spec 90s Proton interior is £30k.
  28. Buy facelift taillights, run cables, change connectors, replace BCM and gateway, code control units
  29. Headlights - no Rear tail lights - no Wing mirror - yes U can retrofit the rear tail lights from the facelift, high version, which does dynamic/sweeping indicators. But u'll need to change a number of other things though, including wiring harness plug.
  30. Have a read of this https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/535400-option-to-enabledisable-dynamic-led-rear-indicators/
  31. Anecdotal evidence suggests a failing battery can generate numerous assist faults. So it might be an idea to get it tested.
  32. As far as I am aware the ethanol content of E5 and E10 is variable within batches of fuel. As all fuel comes from large tanks in the refineries, all brands filled from those tanks will have the same content, the difference between brands being the additives. This may vary between batches. The proportion of ethanol can vary significantly between refineries, so there may be significant differences between the ethanol content of E10 between, say, Esso bought in Southampton (ex Fawley) and Scotland (probably ex Grangemouth)., but Shell in the same locations may well be the same.
  33. Dashboard gauges are 'frigged' to display a reassuring temperature over a range of real temperatures. Feature not fault.
  34. Dont worry. Original cap will hold pressure even its not tightened all the way. My original wont click either.
  35. Gee PetrolDave, you know stuff! Would make sense. Warrior193: no, it pulls right when its just raining. Doesn't even need to be heavy rain. Its not the usual brake effect when you hit standing water on one side. Thanks for the thought though.
  36. Hello, welcome to the forum. If travelling in heavy rail and the windscreen is fogging sufficiently to mask the interior camera, perhaps the driving conditions are not really suitable to be using cruise.
  37. I have applied the 3rd solution in all of my belts and still fit in the lock buckle, the cover is very thin, no problem with the lock tongue. There are Belt Holders in the market to keep in place.
  38. @Sanqhar I did not have the diesel fix applied to my Touran. Even so it eventually succumbed to EGR valve failures. Up to 2020 it had done around 94,000 miles, reduced use during Covid resulted in the EGR failing in Oct 2020 after 96,000 miles. It failed again at 104,000 miles 3 years later.
  39. Hi thanks. I’ve purchased a thermometer to use inside the car and the temp I set matches the temp on the thermometer. It’s 9 degrees outside and I set it for 25 inside and it said 24.8 on the thermometer. Reduce it to 22 and it goes to 22.6. So I think it’s actually working correctly. The acid test will be on a cold morning, we will see how quickly it attains the set temperature. And you’re correct. At 20 degrees setting the sweat is rolling down my back. I was in my wife’s BMW 1 series last night and when it was set to max temp it was absolutely roasting out the vents but it doesn’t have climate control. Just standard heating.
  40. Our Karoq has the retractable cover, but we also have an Ateca with a hard shelf and I didn't recognise those rests and sure enough they're not there. Instead there's a lip for the shelf to rest on. Odd how VW Group would make such changes in what are basically the same car, made in the same factory.
  41. There were various factors that came into play when I decided on a petrol rather than diesel in 2018. At that time I was doing 16 to 20 thousand miles a year. I had a 2010 2.0 Tdi Yeti that was perfect for my needs. The Yeti was totally ruined after the 'fix'. Prior to the fix the dpf would regenerate passively so that I never knew it was happening. Post fix It would regenerate often at the end of a 50 mile journey. I would then unload the car and go out again to make sure the regeneration was completed. Another consequence of the fix was that it caused problems with the EGR valve. VW accepted this and I had it replaced free even though the car was well out of warranty. However the replacement valve only had a 2 year warranty. I was coming up to the end of this warranty and I was not prepared to take the risk of paying for a replacement (around a £1000). These two factors were the main reasons for changing to petrol. I had lost faith in diesels. My Yeti was in for a service and MoT at Vindis Bury St Edmunds and they had a pre-reg 1.5Tsi DSG Karoq SeL. On a whim I took test drive, liked it, and bought one. As my annual mileage was reducing (now doing under 5,000 miles a year) petrol was the perfect choice. With my Yeti doing the higher mileage I was getting around 48 mpg. My Karoq, that sits on the drive a lot of the time, beats 30mpg on very short trips to the supermarket and gets around 44/45 mpg on dual carriageway journeys. I'm happy. Lastly, and nothing to do with the petrol/diesel question, when in 2018 I decided to get rid of the Yeti I kept an open mind despite being seriously disappointed with VAG. A big factor in staying with Skoda was the quality of service I was getting from Vindis (no link, just a satisfied customer). tom
  42. Hello to Superb 1.5 TSi, DSG, Hybrid, Lauren and Klement, Estate. When I took my Octavia in for its annual service, I had booked a loan car but one wasn't available. I was offered instead a demonstrator modrl as above, 3 months old and with 1,200 miles on the clock. I liked this car a lot so asked if I could buy it. Was told I could and got a whopping discount knocked off the on the road price.
  43. Car is for sale at the moment but I will try and get photos of the badges with size if I can https://www.facebook.com/share/1791b7tc66/
  44. How to switch to a fixed interval and how to reset the oil change? Octavia 4 1.5 tsi facelift 2024. The old procedure does not work here.
  45. add to options list also to 225/55r17, recommending especially for winter usage
  46. Hello. I have octavia facelift model 2.0 tdi in do you now how can I reset service inspection? It is not the same like previus model.

Managed to find a Phoenix Orange 1.5tsi Sportline with Winter+ and Amundsen+ packs, one month old and £4000 less than new retail price so whats the point of waiting months? Pick it up next week and say goodbye to my Black 1.5tsi SEL. No more spending ages trying to locate my car in the car park!
