  1. The only tax to have gone down in real terms? It should be 86p a litre now if it had kept pace with inflation
  2. Just sliding in here since i am now the owner of a Skoda Superb. Looking to share and gain knowledge regarding my car. Hopefully find the rare gems/guru’s and enthusiasts who know the ins and outs of this car. Decided to purchase this car since i drive a lot, haul a lot of stuff for my boat and also stow and transport my kitesurfing gear. Have a good day, Pete
  3. Greetings! Just picked up an ex-demo Enyaq fron DM Keith. Lovely looking car, drives beautifully. Getting to grips slowly - very slowly - with all the stuff on the Infotainment system
  4. I took your advice and its now working again. Thank you very much!
  5. No. It works perfectly with my Android auto (Google Maps and Waze). Connected over wireless android auto.
  6. No. The display stays the same, and I have stopped the car trying to change its speed for me regardless of where it has detected the speed limit.
  7. So it's clearly not just my Octavia (or that there's something wrong with my suspension), others are also experiencing similar problems. The only solution is probably to either accept it or downgrade to 16'' wheels. I'm really disappointed with the Octavia's suspension, I don't know where all this praise in tests and reviews about comfort comes from.
  8. It dosn't matter if the wheels are different sizes. For instance, a spare wheel may well have a different rolling diameter, but when the system is reinitiallised it will take it into account.
  9. Cool, thanks for the reference @PetrolDave ; I learned several new things today! https://quinled.info/what-is-pwm-led-dimming/ https://www.suretron.com/blog/-what-is-constant-current-led-driver-how-does-it-work.html https://quinled.info/2018/09/17/analog-vs-digital-led-strip/
  10. It's far more likely to be using PWM as that's used to dim all the other bulbs around the car.
  11. Well, being pretty useless at DIY, I was grateful for the help I've had so far from the garage guy - The Garage, 2 Petit Confolens, between Droux and Bellac, if anyone is in the Haute Vienne region and needs help. He is pretty sure it's a leak from the thermostat housing - he showed me where there was evidence of that. He's ordered the part and we're booked in to have it fitted on Tuesday afternoon. Fingers crossed it works - it's such a good car. First issue I've had with it in 7 or 8 years.
  12. JMSkoda94 I've had exactly the same symptons as you describe in your original post regards the coolant loss, which started about 4 months ago, plus the heating from the blowers has been virtually non existant for the last two years. I've just had the heater matix replaced (which was virtually blocked), heater blowers now work great, plus i have diven over 200 miles and no coolant loss, 50 miles completed in one drive. Hope i'm not speaking too soon but touchwood all good at present. Will report back if not as successful as first impressions.
  13. I can assure you that the in the UK OTA updates for the Infotainment unit are downloaded via the eSim for free, you do not need a data subscription to Cubic Telecom or a connection to a phones WIFI hotspot for these update services. You do pay a subscription for map updates, traffic and the connection to the app services which works via the eSim. It may well be different in other parts of the world. I do believe that if you want to use the cars eSim as an internet wifi hotspot for your passengers you can then buy a data subscription.
  14. 1 point
Thanks Warrior. My problem is less disconnecting the battery clamps than getting the bloody great plastic block away. I need to recharge/replace the battery. No amount of fiddling will separate that block and its hidden connections.
  15. Leaking pipe, maybe external to the cab. But a pipe/hose isolated by the heater valve/pump during normal no heater operation. How do you know it is leaking from here? Have you ever actually seen it leak coolant from the overflow or the cap?
  16. Yesterday i Finish the Retrofit
  17. If you want piece of mind, fit a hidden kill switch. Then even if your keys are taken the car can't be started.....assuming you've flicked the switch that is ! I see modern cars with steering wheel covers/locks these days, a good deterrent I think?
  18. Thanks for the figures; I'm quite happy to keep on paying that taxation to keep the services that are reliant on that £25B pot of money being there to continue to operate. But, seriously, it does actually make us ICE drivers/owners wonder. What if there were no actual financial advantages in owning an electric car? If they cost the same as the ICE equivalent to buy, insure, tax, and fuel and operate. They provided the same power output, miles per battery full. In other words, the EVs matched the overall costs and performance exactly as an ICE car. Charging at home was banned, so you had no option but to go to a charging hub, just as ICE cars have to go to a filling station. Just how many there would be on the roads when the above have been negated and there was no instant torque available and thus no instant acceleration to be the first to pull away and get to the next set of traffic lights, etc. All the other advantages of being able to preheat the cabin on a cold day and defrost the windows, etc., were taken away. The only current characteristic that EVs would be able to carry over is the actual charging time; that is to say, it would be available from a 100 kW charger that would necessitate spending approx. 1 hour each time to recharge the battery as opposed to the 5 minutes for an ICE car to refill its fuel tank. Then it really would be purely down to personal choice; I would expect the number of them on the road would drop dramaticly and make them a rare sight indeed. One thing you can be certain of is as the number of EVs on the road increases as a result of government policies and the revenue from ICE cars drops, the government is going to make sure that the shortfall is going to be forced onto the shoulders of EV owners/drivers to replace.
  19. Yeah get rid of them trees! 🤭
  20. Theft risk is obviously location dependent. I wouldn’t have thought an RS would be a targeted vehicle as to most people it’s just a Skoda. The car already has an immobiliser and an alarm standard. I guess it depends on whether you are garaging the car or parking it on the street?
  21. I bought the 127cm bar today and splashed out on the new 7104 feet. Just tried them up to the car on each side at the back. The distance between the 2 mounting points is just short of 84cm, so based on the image above the 135cm bar won't fit.
  22. 500 page thread, wowzer!😮 And I'm still no closer to moving off the fence. Gaz
  23. Personally I don't see petrol, diesel or gas going anywhere anytime soon. It is / was demonised for an agenda by those that will cash in big time by those with their vested interests. But like I have said before, I don't hate electric cars, I just hate the fact that they are trying to remove people's choice, end of.
  24. Good afternoon, A couple of days ago, I finally had the 5F module replaced. I had to wait for a while because the part was out of stock. Since it was replaced, I've used the car for almost 3 hours (2 hours and 50 minutes, to be exact) with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and FM radio, and I haven't experienced a single audio cutout or any other issues. At the moment I'm only testing it using a wired connection, but it used to fail that way as well before the replacement. So, if you're experiencing a similar problem, this is definitely something worth asking your dealer to check, as replacing the 5F module appears to have fixed it. Thanks everyone, and best regards!
  25. So a hybrid with a 'small' battery charging at night on a cheaper tariff wont be making a £200 odd difference a month... Maybe few quid according to the figures you keep telling us? So as previously stated... the heat pump is bloody expensive to run. End of story...
  26. Eh??? You keep telling us EVs are dirt cheap to run... And if he's working from home a lot he surely wouldn't be paying a couple of hundred a month on fuel for ICE cars. So basically Heat Pumps are bloody expensive to run is what you're saying.
  27. With an OBD diagnose you have an answer in a few minutes. I recently had something similar, which turned out to be a faulty ABS wheelspeedsensor. But it can be anything, and even if it is an ABS sensor, you still don't know which one without a diagnose.
  28. The future for most when gas is gone
  29. Check that there are still antiroll bar bushes in there. It sounds like metal on metal. It might be worth getting someone under car and do the same to see if they can pin point it. In the past I have driven onto a high kerb and crawled underneath and got a mate to bounce car. Check also that the nuts for the drop links havent come loose as well. Alasdair
  30. I replaced the touchscreen on my Bolero, Yeti 2017 and it works now. Followd this video: https://youtu.be/Bj1L6VDmkRU
  31. I've got Plantronics Backbeat Pro2. Nice enough, but I wouldn't recommend. They were good for the price at the time. The faux leather on the over ear sponges is thin and breaks down very quickly, it's the same on the headband. I'm on my third lot of ear sponges, and bought a zip on headband cover. Friends have got the Apple over the ear cans, which are much better in my opinion, but they're about £500. As Lee's said, Sennheiser are excellent (had them before). Also consider Bose Quietcomfort, or the Sony WH1000 XM6. Gaz
  32. I've been looking at these again for the other rear seat and found the sleep package version, not cheap! https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/3v0885901fbgs-headrest-skoda-51563.html https://www.oemvwshop.com/3v0885901f-bgs-head-restraint-skoda-superb-with-sleep-package-function-satin-black-tellur-grey-p2528256/?sti=14056767
  33. I went ahead and checked the wiring to the ecu plugs and I never even noticed the very difficult to read cavity numbers engraved on the side of the plugs. After checking the wiring and pin numbers against the plug side pinout sheet I had been using it turns out I had wired them differently to what they should be with the majority of the connections being made on the black half of the plug instead of the white side. After correcting that cruise control is now working lovely along with the correct bits being flipped when checking the counter using block 066 in vcds. Thanks so much guys
  34. On some models you can set the wiper operation in the infotianment systems so it's timed intermittant rather than rain sensitve. I've seen the random wiper activation on other Skoda models as being a fault with the wiper stalk.
  35. I’ve been thinking about this too, Audi’s B&O subs get a lot of praise in car audio circles, and I’m sure they have some 2x8 ohm setups. Unfortunately, the stock Canton sub is pretty weak. I was considering adding a separate amp and enclosure, but I’ll probably try this option first! Is it plug-and-play for the Octavia? Do you just need to extend the stock Canton cable, and that’s it? My trunk has a fixed cargo floor, not the adjustable “floor-lift” type.
  36. Here's a couple of photos after I finished putting up the tent Friday eve at Blyton, along with a nice sunset shot and as I'm an absolute geek I had to go and take a closer look at the Combine out in the field on Saturday night! 😂 Saturday morning started well out on track, and the wagon managed a couple of sessions, unfortunately the cursed coolant Y piece split sending coolant everywhere! Luckily not whilst out on track, but after I parked up and popped the bonnet to try manage the insane heat we had yesterday! I was 4 hours from home and the nearest place that had the part I needed was Birmingham, so instead I took a chance and bought a roll of silicone amalgamation tape from a local Halfords and wrapped the split pipe. It worked a treat, but I didn't want to tempt fate and risk it out on track again! But It did manage the 4 hour drive home however so I'm happy and lucky all the same. I will be ordering a aluminium version of the section that split and will probably replace the other plastic components at the same time to stop this from happening again. Even though it put a dampener on the day I really enjoyed myself and the Octavia has so much potential for the all round performance car that can do it all! I'd like to pursue some more power, and will definitely be looking at a 6 speed gearbox with a diff to tame things whilst cornering. My mate got some photos of it out on track, so when he sends them to me I'll share those also! 👍🏻
  37. i was allways told only put it into 1st when the car is stationery.
  38. No no you misinderstand. One daughter has a full BEV and charges it overnight most nights. Brov has a hvbrid, not a PHEV one so does not charge it off home lecky. Expect thd BEV does take a few quid of lecky each night as the Cosy tariff is price optimised for the house not the BEV. I have charged there several times too but do not start charging until after 1900 hours as electricity is very expensive between 1600 and 1900, like 40p per KWh due to the tea time peak prices. One has to be disciplined with these Times Of Use tariffs but with the removal of 5% VAT even bigger savings for charging in the more expensive times !
