  1. Finally got the paintwork sorted. 3 Stage polish needed to bring it back and then ceramic coated. Disappointed in the amount of small stone chips but still looks amazing and can see the Velvet red now pop.

  2. To be honest I reckon it’s had a crash and not fixed properly, the mismatched panels are a big hint there. The smaller software glitches might be what other people are experiencing but if it’s been pranged that could explain the engine problems and body damage quite easily - it’s clearly not been fixed properly and the sort of person who wouldn’t care if it had been fixed properly is the sort of person who wouldn’t get the software updates needed to get rid of the glitches. Probably a fleet owner who in my experience treat their cars like crap. There’s no way I’d keep a car that’s had body damage and not sorted properly - mismatched panels on the outside - what’s been bodged underneath where you can’t see it?

  3. I was using a cigarette lighter socket voltage monitor last year during lockdown (1.4TSI original 5 year old battery): -ignition off after 4 weeks stopped, 12.2V - ignition on, 11,6V - engine started, 14.5V - while driving, initially 14.5V dropping to 12.6V then pulsing every few minutes up to 14.5V for a minute or so No additional loads like dashcam, etc.

  4. It will if you don't fit a purpose made hard wire kit. They monitor the battery voltage and disconnect feed to the dashcam when the voltage drops too low and thus preventing damage to the car battery. It's surprising how quickly a dashcam left powered up in a non-running car can drain down a battery, and if it keeps happening, then it will shorten the life of the battery.

  5. Hi folks, please forgive me if I waffle on but thought I’d create a post following an extremely positive experience with a detailer I’ve just used. Having had cars detailed previously by others and suffering a level of OCD when it comes to looking after my car, I can’t tell you how chuffed I am with Advance detail. I contacted Jon at Advance after noticing a few little bits on the car with it now being little over two years old. The car itself was owned by Auric Goldfinger, a very active member on here and it’s clearly been cherished. Over the years unavoidable minor marks have been inflicted from washing, the gloss b pillars have inevitably marked and a good general decontamination was needed after going through the dealer used car prep. The car was booked in and within a few weeks Jon was able to get me in for a silver detail which was then protected with Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra, something only available through the accredited network. In my opinion Jon and his colleague Luke have done a fantastic job and I hope my pictures do it justice. The paintwork looks like new, the panels feel like glass, the beading is fantastic and he’s even added Paint protection film to delicate areas. I want to make it clear I’ve not received a discount on this process and I’m in no way linked to Advance detail. I honestly think that when someone does something just right that you pay for it’s worth the recognition. If nothing else hopefully you like the pictures, if my review helps one person who’s on the fence of what to get done or where to go then that just a bonus. All the best folks.

Nearly ready to grout the path with Sika Fastfix, just got a few deeper sections to fill first.

  10. I've been a lifelong metal fan since I first heard 'No Sleep To Hammersmith' back in around 1982 when I was 10. Motorhead just blew me away, and I would say that is where my metal journey started. Seen them live 3 times, outstanding. I've every Motorhead album and a few t-shirts. I've only the one tattoo, I bet you can guess what it is!! Slayer, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeth etc etc. Love it all really. FFDP and In Flames if we are getting a bit more modern. Like Gojira too, very avant-garde! Big fan of older stuff too. Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath..... oh my the list goes on. ZZ Top one of my all time favourite bands too. Mind, my musical tastes are really wide. I listen to quite a bit of world music, like a lot of classical music too. Johnny Cash, brilliant. Die hard Neil Young fan too. In the early 90' I discovered techno. That has never left me either. I find the energy of techno actualy really similar to the energy of heavy metal. Music with attitude. Amelie Lens, Matrixxman, SPFDJ, I Hate Models etc. As @nutters_uclan says, I could go on for days......

  11. Inspired by a comment from @nutters_uclan and after a search to make sure there wasn't already a thread of this type which turned up nothing, this thread is for any other Metal heads that may be lurking in the shadows. So what's your story? What bands do you like best? What bands have you seen? What bands, albums, songs do you recommend? I took inspiration from my Dad listening to the likes of Deep Purple, Blue Oyster Cult, Saxon and Judas Priest (who are my all time favourite band) and expanded from there through Metallica and Megadeth, leading to a fair love of thrash until I went to Uni and expanded with some bands from the more extreme genres. So my tastes are quite wide ranging. I find I go through phases of going back to a certain band and listening through their entire discography and not much else for months, usually before they release a new album. The most recent band this happened with was Dvne but as they only have two amazing albums and a few EPs this didn't last long. Before that was Judas Priest and before them was Sepultura. Being from a remote island, I haven't been to many concerts unfortunately and I'm usually quite picky about which ones I do go to. I have been to: Ministry - C.U.Latour Bristol 2007 Exodus and Overkill - London 2008 Testament, Megadeth and Judas Priest - London 2008 (The next day) Annihilator - Bristol 2010 Metallica - Glasgow 2017 Voivod - Glasgow 2018 Recommendations: Dvne, Coroner, New Evile album and a local band named Yun who have just released their first album called Wan. Go! \m/

  12. It just confuses things if people start taking about 1.5 TSI,s ACT,s and DQ200 DSG,s that there was the need of software updates for engines and some of their DSG,s with 1.4 TSI,s and DQ200 DSG,s. Totally different kettles of fish. The last of the 1.4 and DSG,s were as good as VW got then there was a bit of a ****-up getting the 1.5,s ready for the WLTP. The OP needs their vehicles issue diagnosed by someone with all the gear and more than just ideas.

  13. And the trouble with taking to a dealership for these sorts of problems is that according to VW/Skoda the Mechatronics and Gearbox are just complete units. If something breaks on them then they need completely replacing as a whole unit. Even though most DSG problems can be fixed relatively easily and inexpensively. So an independent specialist should know this and can usually fix it. Wonder if it's something like the accumulator that's cracked. And it's the loss of pressure in the mechatronics or something.

  14. The alternator does not charge the battery as in ye olden days. To save fuel etc the alternator tends to switch off and only charge on the overrun. It also only charges the battery to around 80% to allow capacity for it to accept charge when you lift of the accelerator etc.

  17. I grew up listening to my Dad's music (Status Quo, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd etc) so that got me into rock music when I was a teenager. I didn't really progress into metal until later on, mostly whilst at University and going to Rock clubs (Rock City being the main one). The big opener (for lack of a better word) was going to festivals like Sonisphere and Download. Through those, I got into Airbourne, Clutch, Shinedown, Iron Maiden, Rammstein and others but also got to see Metallica, Korn, Slipknot, SOAD et al. As for seeing bands live, it'd be easier to just list the fesitvals: 2010 - Sonisphere 2011 - Download 2013 - Download 2015 - Download & Leeds (Metallica, Beartooth and a few others at Leeds) 2016 - Download 2018 - Download

  18. I didn't think having upside down calipers & not being able to bleed them properly could have caused your problem but reversing them is very common so just wanted to eliminate that. It sounds like the servo is losing vacuum, check all the hose connections.

  19. Hello Fellow Members, I purchased a MKIV Octavia Vrs in January 2021. I have had a road trip Upto Scotland, trip to Norfolk. Done almost 3000 miles, no software problems. Car runs fine. I have previously owned a MK1 and a MK2 both totally reliable. The MK2 I had for 12 years sold with original brake pads and exhaust A very happy Skoda driver.

  20. Did you replace the seals in the calipers or just the pistons? Have you checked for fluid leaks from the calipers, bleed screws and connections? Please don't keep driving it - it sounds quite dangerous at the moment!

  22. I found another rattle in this area. It's the bonnet release handle resting against the trim when in the closed position. My solution was to slide a little piece of black heat shrink under the door rubber so that it sticks out and in the path of the edge of the handle making contact with the trim. The heat shrink I used was 15mm wide and cut 18mm long, just enough to stop the rattle. I removed the Velcro from the glovebox handle as it seems it isn't necessary. There is movement there but no rattle. I did add 3-4 inches of insulation tape to the lock on the glovebox. Wrap it around the little bar that the catch goes against. This fix and the bonnet release fix has transformed my driving experience.

  23. Is not absolutely flawless, but it's pretty close in terms of the paint. The marks on the front are mostly dirt from 3 days of motorway driving since bringing it home. The colour while very nice, is likely going to be a pain to keep clean. Any bit of dirt shows up annoyingly clearly There is a mark on the back of the driver seat and a chip in the leather steering wheel. But still, A used car is never going to be perfect, and considering the low mileage and very reasonable price compared to a new Octavia or even Fabia, I'm very pleased with the condition.

  24. I mentioned last week that I was thinking of buying a 2019 Octavia SE Technology. Here it is: I'm more than a little obsesed with this car. It's 3 years old, but I swear there isn't a single mark on it. I had never heard of a Denim Blue car before, but I love the colour. I have had a Citigo and we still have a 2018 Fabia. I was surprised how different the Rabia feels to the Octavia inside. The Citigo was cheap and cheerful and whilst the Fabia drives nicely, I have always felt it was very basic from day 1. I imagine I will never be able to keep it as shiny and pristine as it currently is (though I'd like to try) so I'm enjoying it whilst it lasts. It's not all perfect though, I'm glad I wasnt the one that paid extra for the Skoda sat Nav etc, the one I get from my phone via Android auto is much better, same with the voice controls etc.

  25. Jerry57- yes I have been told week 33 for the build to start on the enyaq which is 16th Aug however my dealer copied me into a disclaimer skoda are requiring people to sign if they order from this week onwards regarding shortage of components. They are basically not giving estimate build dates from now on due to the issue with these semi conductors. I'm hoping they have enough supply for the cars they have provided dates for.

  26. Also happens with the DRL bulbs. They are a special bulb to resist vibrations breaking the filament, but my experience is that the solder contact pip on the end of the bulb is fretted away by vibration. Result is that as it wears away it makes intermittent contact, resulting in random self fixing warnings of bulb failure. I posted a photo of a fretted bulb in a thread about three years ago. if this your problem, fix it by adding more solder to the end of the bulb. Mine is still working fine but I did both sides while I was at it.

  28. Managed to get the sensor off and this one is the one that goes before the turbo. The part number is 03L906088BK Found one on eBay for £45. Size 17 spanner and 10 mins to get off as it’s awkward to get to. So if you’ve got a 2011 fabia mk2 1.6tdi 75kw this the part number 👍

  29. Not directly related but same problem with the ID.4. I've found boot liner manufacturers are very keen to measure up to get a product for the ID.4. I expect they will be keen to get hold of an Enyaq. So if one of the manufacturers is near you, give them a ring and see if they want to measure your car. The ID.4 group has got a boot liner sorted this way from Boot Buddy

  30. Thanks for that. I did think it looked odd, but all the photos I’ve seen are for later models and I thought maybe it was just a cheap mark1 thing . Ps . You can tell I’ve never had to strip a door before ! By the way I bought it second hand from a taxi company 6 years ago and I haven’t regretted it for one minute. There were 180,000 miles on the clock but I figured if it lasted for a year it would do. 270,000 miles on it now. Thanks again

  31. Probably strip and clean for the front ones, and chip off any built up corrosion curd stuff. Ford fixed by ford, excellent, my wort experience of driving through fords with a Ford was when my nice new Ford alloys got chipped by a submerged rock/big stone, very annoying, I still remember when we ever drive through that ford - not in my car though, only ever do that in wife's Polo!

  32. Good to see some metalheadz on here Going to gigs was my life for many years, so it feels like there are very few bands I haven't seen! I have actually followed several on tour, too, including Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer, Slipknot, In Flames, Sepultura. Most of these were for their UK tours, but 3 friends and I trekked across Europe for a month in 2004 following Metallica around...a wonderful experience. I also took my eldest daughter to see Maiden 4/5 years ago, which was special to me; her first gig and my 29th Maiden show! Among the best shows I've seen; Guns N Roses, Leeds Festival, 2002. Was just Axl and hired goons then, but the show was absolutely incredible. I've seen them 4/5 times since and their gig at the Olympic Stadium a few years back was also amazing. Meshuggah. Manchester, 2017 (I think). Possibly the greatest live performance I've ever witnessed. The intensity! Megadeth, Graspop Festival, 2008 (I think). They rarely disappoint. What a band. Metallica, Download Festical, 2003 secret show. A rumour spread like wildfire that Metallica were going to do a secret set on the 3rd stage - and they did! My first time seeing the band and, according to my GF at the time, it was like I was possessed. At the Gates, Graspop Festival, 2008 (I think). I never thought I'd get to see them, never mind on this form. Pantera, Ozzfest 1998. My one and only Pantera show...sobs. I could go on, for days, until my post was so long no one would read it

  34. Well, over the last couple of week, I've been watching the Tour de France, and it's quite noticeable just how many French roads outside town don't have a centre line and 2 side lines, which appears to be a prerequisite for "second guess you steer" to "work as advertised" at all. I think it's better to not even fit a "safety feature" than to fit one that works inconsistently.

  36. There must be something special about Monte Carlo headlights aside from having poor light output and no headlamp flash function for you to have wanted to fit them, are they considered cool or something? Genuine question as your posting does not say why, perhaps it was an accident repair and you are fitting the only S/H lights that were available.

  43. Love some classic Floyd, GnR, Metallica etc (The usual subjects). Also love some 90s Green day, Linkin Park etc. But I really do connect with FFDP (Five Finger Death Punch) especially 'wrong side of heaven' and 'Little bit off'. They really strike a chord with my military experiences and PTSD.

  44. It's been a while since I posted in this thread. Not much has changed other than new wheels. Genuine Porsche 987 alloys, 18x8 & 18x9 had them painted in a custom Porsche grey with loads of red flake so the colour changes drastically in the sun. So here's a few pictures to spam you with...

  45. Glad you (almost) managed to get your clutch problem and refund of your engineer's report costs sorted. But isn't it a disgrace that you had to suffer so much hassle and indifference from your Skoda dealer. They deserve to go out of business. Unfortunately we are seeing more and more of this attitude across many segments of business. You should name and shame them on the dealer reviews section of this forum once your dealings with them are over, then take your servicing business elsewhere. And well done to the member who provided you with the technical information issued by Skoda in support of your case. Just appalling that your dealer didn't come forward with the information in the first place.

  46. My car is in its 8th day at the dealers while they attempt - so far unsuccessfully - to fix the three seemingly software-related faults that I first notified them of 2 days after purchase. It is now 27 days old. Here in Australia we have similar laws to yours in the UK. In case anyone in Australia is reading this here are the relevant pages from the government site: https://www.accc.gov.au/update/just-bought-a-new-car https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/consumer-rights-guarantees/consumer-guarantees I note that there does not appear to be any 30 day limit here. The pages only mention that the dealer has "a reasonable time". When I owned a Honda S2000 I several times had to wait 3 weeks for parts to arrive from Japan so I expect the situation of waiting for a software fix from Europe requires the same level of tolerance. But I do not intend to wait for ever.

  49. The battery management system in stop/start car is very complex and the battery is never fully charged to allow for energy recovery from the alternator when braking or deceleration. Your worrying too much and your original battery was probably perfectly serviceable. There are many conditions that prevent the stop/ start system operating apart from a duff battery. Conditions for the automatic engine shut down (stop phase) › The gearshift lever is in Neutral. › The clutch pedal is not depressed. › The driver has fastened the seat belt. › The driver's door is closed. › The bonnet is closed. › The vehicle is at a standstill. › The engine is at operating temperature. › The charge state of the vehicle battery is sufficient. › The stationary vehicle is not on a steep slope or a steep downhill section. › The engine speed is less than 1200 1/min. › The temperature of the vehicle battery is not too low or too high. › There is sufficient pressure in the braking system. › The difference between the outdoor- and the set temperature in the interior is not too great. › The vehicle speed since the last time the engine was switched off was greater than 3 km/h. › The front wheels are not turned excessively (the steering angle is less than 3/4 of a steering wheel revolution). Conditions for an automatic restart (start phase) › The clutch is depressed. › The max./min. temperature is set. › The Defrost function for the windshield is switched on. › A high blower stage has been selected. › The START STOP button is pressed. Conditions for an automatic restart without driver intervention › The vehicle moves at a speed of more than 3 km/h. › The difference between the outdoor- and the set temperature in the interior is too great. › The charge state of the vehicle battery is not sufficient. › There is insufficient pressure in the braking system.
