Modifying Your Fabia MK III

Recently accidentally took a roundabout way too fast, thought it was round but had never been round it from the particular direction i came from, turns out its oval!

At first the front end stepped out slightly, with a lot of tyre squeal, i let off the accelerator completely (i was attempting to maintain stability by lightly holding it at first), the front end kicked back in and the rear end shot out and i had to counter-steer and re-plant my foot on the accelerator to get back pointing in the correct direction.

The ol' butt-cheeks were clenched very tightly together during that maneuver!

What seemed to cause the rear-end to shoot out was the sudden backlash through the drivetrain forcing the engine to rock on its rather sloppy mounts. I notice it quite alot since then, even in a straight line it causes a little lurch and you can feel a thump as the engine rocks. Far worse in corners when you've got 100kg of engine flopping about, most likely what upset the balance.

My first two mods will be Vibra-Technics engine mounts, then ST X coilovers.

For those curious, the ST X by KW coilovers are exactly the same as KW variant 1's in terms of spring rate damping valving and adjustment. They are just made of galvanised steel rather than stainless so they are a little less rust resistant, fine for those who prefer to set it once and leave it.

Get them coilovers on! 😁

I've built a small 8" subwoofer for my Fabia It's designed to fit snugly in the "basket" in the trunk and have a quick connection so it's easy to remove if needed.  If someone wants to see

  • Just bought my monte carlo a few weeks ago.    Only done a few mods to it so far.   I've lowered it on eibach springs (30/45mm) and sprayed the badges black.    Also clay

I can only afford the engine mounts right now, the coilovers will require a lot more saving up! possibly after christmas i may be able to afford them.. then i'll also need to get new wheel bearings (front and rear, damn potholes), and i'll put new drop-links in while i'm at it.. then next summer it'll want a cam-belt, as it'll be getting toward 60k miles..

It's that point where it's a sudden large amount of expenses but it's way more economical than buying a new car, especially since i'm now heading towards 600 miles on my current tank of petrol! Not bad for a 1.2

I also need new front brakes, and i have at least one bent alloy, so i may invest in a one or two new ones, may get the remaining healthy ones refurbished and maybe diamond cut to look better too, will see..

Sounds like a good plan - putting its health in front of mods.

Yes I can say the fuel economy is excellent! Mine regularly achieves over 50 MPG and sometimes nearly hits 60 MPG!

I manage around 50mpg on mostly short trips with many varying limits (10 miles with sections of 30/40/50/60/70 limits). On motorway journies it easily manages 50 though i usually get bored of sticking at the limit unless i've got someone in the car with me to keep me entertained! I've hit 59.5 mpg following a lorry before haha, the lack of a 6th gear and being 20bhp down vs the 110 seems to hurt though, same story with the new 1.0 engines.

First job is the engine mounts, they're almost falling apart. When i do get round to doing them i'll be documenting it properly and get a before/after video.

Vibra-Technics mounts.

After that it'll be brakes, they're down to 3-4mm and a bent disc doesn't help comfort either.

Mintex discs/pads.

Then it'll be suspension overhaul time, ST-X by KW coilovers, new bearings on all 4 corners, new ARB drop-links, new ARB bushes. Likely new strut top-mount too, depending on condition.

For all replacement OE parts ill be using Febi Bilstein ones if possible. Obviously the coils are by KW.

WOW! 59.5! 🤣

It'll be interesting to see the engine mounts and the difference they make as there are many different opinions whether or not they're worth upgrading.

No remap then?

Remap will be thrown in at some point too after the engine mounts, then i can hopefully tune the idle to be as smooth as possible too, the varying idle rpm between 650 and 850 depending on ac status and other things can sometimes get on my nerves, the 1.0 i had seemed to idle happily about 900-950 rpm and was smooth as butter.

About to order Eibach lowering springs could someone tell me if theyre the right ones for my car. Thanks.

Also could anyone recommend any interior LEDs and number plate LEDs?

Thankyou!

New plates and surrounds added today, paint correction and ceramic coating done last weekend. Not sure what the next mod will be, maybe a remap at some point.

Hi from Sweden, not had the time yet with so many mods on my 2016 estate. Wind deflectors, plastidipped semi gloss oem 15” rims, 12” subwoofer, painted brake calipers, changed interior lights to Led, but more to come. Looking for a Thule Canyon cargo rack, change oem low & high beams to HID, leds i the fog lights, tinted windows and some monte carlo styling :)

eBay, that are called 4D gel plates, £39.99. no idea why they call them 4D though.

Just got the monte carlo grill, black lettering and front lips installed on my 2019 facelift.

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum.

I'm driving fabia 2017 1.2 110hp.

I'm thinking for a led interior upgrade. Want to change bulbs in trunk, in glove compartment, in front and rear ceiling lights. And maybe fogs lights.

Is somewhere tutorial about how to change the bulbs (with pictures or video) and about what bulbs should i put (size and type)?

Thank you in advance.

Best regards.

Could anyone recommend any Interior LED bulbs and the ones above the Reg Plates?

Cheers

You need to remove the fuse when doing the interiors or you will blow the electrics,

Glove box, Map Readers and Boot is these T10 W5W (50/50 chance when you fit (+/-) so remember which way you tried

The centre is one of those 39mm-42mm festoons, which is also used on the rear ceiling lights, this was hardest of all because the whole unit falls to bits. There is metal contact

inside which controls OFF,ON, and ON when door opens, It was really fiddly.

Mk2 needed resistors as kept overheating and burning out, Mk3 maybe needs 42mm Festoon rather than 39mm which i used (had to bend contacts to meet ends of festoon) -
