APR gives a possible figures / dyno sheets showing with 98 Octane.

98 Octane minimum is not sold in the UK anymore it is Super Unleaded 97 ron minimum or 99 ron minimum.

Not that VW ever bothered over the last few years.

I've built a small 8" subwoofer for my Fabia It's designed to fit snugly in the "basket" in the trunk and have a quick connection so it's easy to remove if needed.  If someone wants to see

  • Just bought my monte carlo a few weeks ago.    Only done a few mods to it so far.   I've lowered it on eibach springs (30/45mm) and sprayed the badges black.    Also clay

I thought this one was running the APR 98 RON calibration?

It might well be running 98ron calibration but running 99 ton Super Unleaded.

Eco Tune Glasgow know their business well.

(@AMD87 says "running V-Power" in reply to my question on what was being used.)

Sadly when you ask APR or REVO reps they dont always.

Having a good Tuner does make all the difference.

I'm not arguing the fuel being used, I was just pointing out to @Kobayashi that the intake + exhaust isn't necessarily the route to take and that by running premium fuel as suggested previously can achieve results just as good on a standard engine. The point being that there are 2 ways to extract 150 ish bhp out of the 1.2 TSI. Now running premium fuel AND having the intake and exhaust, would that give even more power, I don't know, but it would be very interesting to find out

Not yet, but I always run premium fuel so when I have downpipe fitted and the map adjusted for the intake and the custom exhaust I'll let you know what power we come out with

@Fab1493

Sorry what is Premium?,  It is Premium Diesel,

Do you mean you run Super Unleaded. 97 or 99 ron?   Is it seat of the pants that you use to know what your mods are doing, or do you do timing or something?

Yeah, super unleaded - usually from Sainsburys which is rated at... 97 perhaps? I don't know the fuel ratings from the top of my head.

I'm not measuring my mods because I haven't done many power enhancing mods to it. Only generic map rated at 130 bhp, intake and catback (which isn't really a performance mod). Until the map is adjusted to account for the intake and exhaust I don't expect to feel any faster than what it was with standard intake and exhaust

Sainsburys Super Unleaded is 97 Octane (minimum)

That is what I run - I've heard Tesco is potentially better but Tesco doesn't have super unleaded around here...

Edited by Fab1493

Not potentially better,

it is actually a higher octane as in 99 Octane Minimum the same as Shell V-Power Nitro +. So if your car can benefit from higher octanes, 97 is higher than 95, and 99 higher still

then 102 even more so.

100+ Ron at pumps is pretty common on Continental Europe and lovely stuff.

I guess 97 it is then for my Fabia

I had mine running at 142hp with an balanced map +cat back+sports cat+pipercross filter in original air box.

But had problems for mot emmisions at 23% with Tony Banks supplied sports cat, he blamed the map, changing to type approved standard cat brought it down to 0%.

Been on rolling road standard cat and standard air filter and got 121hp.

Now put the pipercross air filter back on , just need to see what difference it makes on a rolling road.

Would think I could get 150hp with catback, sports cat, pipercross filter and a more aggressive map.

I'm running on Tesco 99 and always have.

The wife just wants a bit more 'oomph', wont be doing any exhaust mods and she definitely wont pay for super unleaded, so it will be mapped on 95 ron.

It would be interesting if the Pipercross filter gave a bit more towards the map but  i can ask the mapper to test this before and after. Dont fancy paying for the forge intake if it doesnt do that much, I think the forge one needs to feed to the front somehow, Maybe there is a way to custom make one based on the VRS MK2 ones,

I mean intakes are silicone hose, A Bendy Pipe and a filter inside a box

How much does ADE charge for his Dyno?

Basic prices are below but might be out of date, ask for Rachel.

1 x Vehicle dyno run (3 power runs) £50
2 x Vehicle dyno runs (3 power runs each) £45each
3 x Vehicle dyno runs (3 power runs each) £40 each

They sometimes do 'Dyno' days on a sunday though not seen one for a while

Sometimes the Dyno is included in whatever you are having done, especially mods & maps, plus also if they are fault finding, ie before and after printouts.

But they do only charge £40 per hour workshop time.

Seems as though Bilstein Shocks + Eibach Springs is almost the same price as the ST X by KW coilovers (£585),

which could be the better choice? (I need new shocks anyway mine are shot)

Based on things I've read I would say coilovers are better because the shocks and springs are matched perfectly. I read something about a Focus RS I think it was and the guy got lowering springs and Bilstein shocks and not only did the car sit higher with the Bilstein shocks, it also handled like a pig! My takeaway from that was do not try to match shocks with springs, just get coilovers!

Mind you, I haven't had the experience myself... At the time of fitting the springs on mine, one of the shocks had to be replaced too, and ultimately I went with standard shock because I did not want to gamble having Bilstein shocks put on and mess it all up.

Are you still able to adjust the ride height with the Bilstein + Eibach combo? I'm getting my ST X coilovers installed on Tuesday, trying to get as low as possible. Seem like a decently priced set, reputable brand etc.

Stick with the stx as you have adjustable ride hight and trust me they are quality not crashy at all! Your taking a big risk on hight and ride quality with an unmatched setup.

Looks like that's my decision made then! I'll be joining the ST-X club at some point in the future when i can afford it, i've got a year till the next MOT where the shocks will probably fail, they're getting quite crashy and slightly more bouncy now.

Another thing to note is for whatever reason my tyres were at 26 psi all round, ride was smooth and quiet but handling felt a very floaty at high speeds and braking was a bit drifty too. Put them back up to 34 all round and what a difference! Less smooth and a tiny bit noisier but thats probably due to being able to actually having air in them 😂

No idea why they were so low, last place it has been was for it's MOT at my dealer. Maybe they were set to 32psi when it was 35c and the temperature difference caused it, who knows..
