Guess the Hire Car.... Mac's 2019 game
Ok there'll be two versions of this hire car as we've discovered the one we have which is named after a famous painter is falling apart and has non-working A/C which isn't nice in these temps and when we have a heat warning for 36 tomorrow. So we're getting an upgrade to an American Group F

The "Definitely Not a Project" Project Thread
My DRL kit arrived from AliExpress so using a spare headlight for cheap I first removed the lens by taking the clips off and then warming the sealant using a hairdryer, Then removed the 100 screws and the plastic strip, which is clipped in place, I also removed the LED module, you can see of the old strip the melting that had caused the yellowing, Using the reverse of taking it apart put it back together and tested it, Good result, just need to clean the inside of the light and refit the lens with some new butyl seal which will involve baking the light in the oven once the seal is in place then squeezing the lens back on and refitting the clips. A small but satisfying win.

Skoda Superb Alloy Wheels 18 inch from 2013 Superb Elegance Mk2. Set of four. Plus steel spare.
Set of four alloys from a 2013 Skoda Superb Elegance. Part number 3T0601025E Style name Themisto Size 7.5J x 18 Offset ET46 PCD 5x112 Also the spare wheel with retaining nut and polystyrene insert. We bought the car as an ex-demo so it has always been always owned by us. In around 2015 we replaced the wheels and tyres with 16 inch steels as we wanted a softer ride. These wheels have been stored in an ISO container ever since. The car has now been written off so these are of no use to us. The tyres have reasonable tread and appear okay but because of their age (2015) it might be safest to assume they are beyond their serviceable life. There appear to be some minor scuff marks, but please judge the condition for yourself from the photos. We are in North Wales and I don’t want to courier these etc so be prepared to come and get them. £200

Skoda Octavia mK III INFOTAINMENT system keeps switching on and off
I had a similar issue with my previous mk3 facelift Octavia, the info screen would intermittently turn it's self on & off whilst I was driving. I never got to the bottom of it, but I found pulling the dash fuse (behind the glovebox), usually stopped it from turning on & off for around a month. I can't offhand remember which fuse it was, but it's within the owners handbook. Maybe worth a free, try. Mine turned off & on, less often than yours, mind. Still enough to drive me crazy when it did.

Mpg????
I drive both my cars without consideration for MPG ( fabia returns circa 35 mpg, Golf returns circa 25 mpg) but I enjoy every mile (don't commute or do over 5k per year) rely on on fuel calcs in the cars

Citigo E IV won't charge
If you can charge with the ignition on then the microswitch on the gear selector has failed. This will not let you charge because the car thinks it is not in the Park position and you should get a fault on the app saying the parking brake is not applied. The total unit replacement is 12E.713.025.G and is in the order of £700. However it is possible to get a similar microswitch for about £5.00 from RS components or similar. This will need modifying and soldering to the printed circuit board once you have dismantled everything. There is a video on the VW-UP web site https://www.upownersclub.co.uk/threads/car-wont-charge-yellow-flashing-light-selector-not-in-p.14359/?nested_view=1#replies and a link to a video on how to do it. I did mine about a month ago and it is still working! Best of luck and get in touch if you think you need more details.

the truth about electric cars
Can be done, ie get WLTP range and more, only happens in exceptional circumstances ie battery over 15C and a driver who knows how to maximise regen. My son just drives our EVs, doesn't play with the regen paddles, draft that Transit van doing the 60 mph or so and that is fine but he's a smooth driver so get quite good milez per KWh. The Mini EV progressively throttles power and is better than the Renaults for the novice but I don't think it will go much beyond 0%. The Renaults will go more the 5% past 0% before even warning of performance restriction. It will then go another 2 or 3% before conking out so my little 5's range in summeris over 200 miles and the Scenic is over 275 miles in truth before Restriction warning pops up and one really should charge up. EVs BMS needs to be better and more consistent across the makes as the vary massively in how they inform and perform in the lower gentiles and negative of informed state of charge.

Mpg????
Do you actually calculate your fuel consumption - or do you use the fuel computer figures? I use an app to calculate actual fuel use and it always shows the Octavia's fuel computer MPG figures to read high by at least 2mpg - so your real mpg figure could actually be lower than you think.

Brake pads
TRW GDB1330 rear brake pads will fit all Scala models. They are currently available on Amazon.de for 23.80 Euros (about £20.45) which includes shipping to the UK and UK VAT. The rear brake calipers on the Scala are made by TRW, so it makes sense to go for TRW rear brake pads. the truth about electric cars
Sadly, the entire EV industry is guilty of misinformation, and it starts right at the top with the legislators pushing towards an idealistic goal long before we have all the answers, a pattern that I have witnessed before. I don't really think that we can lay the entire blame at the motor trade's feet when they themselves are staring down the barrel of punitive fines for noncompliance with an over-optimistic mandatory target. Also, sadly, the education system has been dumbed down so much that almost every school leaver qualifies to get a place at university, hence why we find graduates stacking shelves in supermarkets, as industry chiefs know that the qualifications gained in a lot of cases are inferior to those gained years ago.

the truth about electric cars
Misleading people getting an EV into believing that a 50 kW battery car is going to go 250 miles or more is pure misselling. When 200 miles sometimes might be possible in the right conditions. Sadly people believe brochures and sales staff.

I’m ok with it. I know there’s no tension on the wires, it’s insulated and it’s reversible.

Mpg????
A lot of short trips just picking up grandkids and then dropping them of later probably a lot of 4 mile roundtrips but it does get a few long runs out and about, I was spoiled with my old ford diesel doing 60 to the gallon I suppose.

Why not do it properly at the control unit connector by building a Y-adapter? For me, this solution is unacceptable.

the truth about electric cars
Electrics have always equated in a hydrodynamic way to help me understand. KWh is volume capacity, KW is flow rate like litre per hour or so. Congrats to Pierre Gasly taking poll at Monza, great for Alpine-Renault and Enstone Oxfordshire. Just need to convert to podium tomorrow, especially after being robbed of Monte Carlo podium.

Today’s task was to add LED lights to the back doors in place of the reflectors. Using information from this post. Lights - https://a.aliexpress.com/_EjjRwBg Wiring - https://a.aliexpress.com/_EzQJ6DU Small Posi taps - https://a.aliexpress.com/_EIUKgwe Large posi taps - https://amzn.eu/d/00FkY8MK Tapped into red and white/ brown and yellow wires using posi taps and tidied up with cloth tape. They project “Superb” onto the floor the same as the front ones. Note - it’s always worth having some spare door trim clips on hand as they seem to be a sacrificial part! https://vehicleclips.co.uk/products/door-card-trim-moulding-clip-with-rubber-seal-skoda-5j0867276

the truth about electric cars
The real answer is trained sales staff and trained management. Motability sales people were specialists that had knowledge. The whole selling and leasing of EV,s is a farce with many places. Even at Arnold Clarks multi million EV sales establishments where they are supposedly Pure dead brilliant or GENIUS as their ads went. As to PARK,s the ever growing business in Scotland they excel in hopelessness. Autocar, Auto express, Which or just Motability need to get secret shoppers in to these establishments.
