Well I'm not an expert, but it looks okay to me and I'm happy enough with the result to take it away.
  2. Hello internet, I just want to say (through my friend Mike who has a Briskoda account) a big thanks to Lee/Skoman for coming to help out with my 2009 octavia 1.9 tdi (bxe PD) for a TBA. I (and Mike) cleaned the air intake flap with dedicated spray cleaner but left it attached (as we didn't want to mess around with things like gaskets or doing things properly). Loads of black liquid and the flap was much freer and shiny. Left for an hour in the sun, discussing medals over tea etc. On going back to the car and reconnecting, it just would not start, one crank and that's it. We dis/reconnected the battery, tried left handed and right handed chicken dances in all manner of variations, but to no avail. Various readings suggested needing VCDS to perform TBA, and Lee/Skoman very kindly obliged with our request. He did the TBA but the car wouldn't start, cranking only once still. After multiple push starts and tapping the starter motor in case the starter had chosen now to be the time to go, we tried the manual crank involving dislocating shoulders and kneecaps in order to reach it. This was really stiff and led to him thinking it could be hydrolocked with the cleaning solvent. So, he removed the glow plugs and cranked it, and what can only be described as an intense ejaculation of black goop flew honestly about 5m in front of the car. I happened to be stood in front of the car when he did this and, having seen the matrix, felt like Neo when I dodged it (and the inevitable pinkeye). After cranking a bit more it seemed a lot freer, and it started! After an entirely trouble-free test drive (in which a hammer definitely did not get somehow left on the undertray only to fall out with a big clunk and confuse a dog walker, and in which the undertray definitly did not start scraping, requiring us to pull it off on the roadside) we made it back and I have a functioning car again. Engine diagnostics suggested injector 3 was running a bit rich (2.9 mg/str IIRC, normal range +/- 2.8 on VCDS?), so I imagine it could be that but more likely a load of carbon deposition in the EGR in a 180,000 miler. Some great points for reflection for me, including removing the TB and EGR to reduce the risk of crud-ingress and hydrolocking (I would have thought the volatile liquid would have evaporated out of the cylinder over time...), something about not leaving hammers in undertrays, and I think I need to take the TB and the EGR off for a proper clean to see if it reduces/removes white smoke on start up. So yeah anyone in the York area if you need any help I would recommend contacting Lee/Skoman, very knowledgeable and helpful, and a lovely bloke, thanks. (And thanks Mike for posting this!)
  3. That is just HENDY employees. Skoda UK the importer and Warranty Provider could have a 'Competent Technician', or a VW Technical Department Motor Engineer inspect the vehicle and have any faults resolved. A Communications Manager or a Resolution Manager & Skoda / VW UK can arrange that. There is the requirement to allow 'Competent and Qualified Dealership employees with all the gear' to sort matters. HENDY and whoever at Skoda UK are dealing with things are just being hopeless in their duty to have the vehicle of merchantable quality and using 'Operator failings' to try to cover the fault.

  5. In the style of Jim from Friday Night Dinner.... "Hello All....." It's been a while, nearly 12 months in fact since I gave a proper update, it's been a busy old year. We moved house mid November 2019, not far, less than 2 miles in fact but we have gone from renting to owning again after a few years. Needless to say, the house that was pretty much perfect, move straight in etc has occupied every single hour of spare time and money and the poor car has sat under cover in the new garage. Good news is the house is pretty much finished and the enforced COVID-19 lockdown period has allowed me to finish 5 years worth of house DIY in 6 months! Some of you may remember the slightly bigger garage at the new house, in fact it's a usable large tandem garage that has been significantly enhanced in the period we have been here. I have insulated the roof, plasterboarded, 7x new 6' Twin LED lights, cut and installed a large double glazed window where there was a plain wall, new composite door to the patio as well as grinding the whole concrete floor by hand before laying a screed of Ardex K301 concrete floor compound. Oh yeah and a new electric roller door. The plan was to build a lovely space to keep the car / cars and have a well lit, warm and dry place to do detailing & maintenance, so I have fitted the end of the garage out with units and worktop/tiles to finish it off. Here is how the garage looked to start with.. Fast forward many months of graft, DIY injuries, late nights, early mornings and we're nearly finished now... Coupled with the internals, we have had the front of the house changed, new driveway, fences, as well as rear decking - and I though cars could absorb money.... Upshot is, if anyone's still reading, is that i'll be back on the car soon, getting some more part from TPS the weekend so I've no excuse now to get stuck into it. Just need to Epoxy resin coat the garage floor first.... Thanks for reading! Matt
  6. Hi all, I've been kicking this around for a while, forgot to update you. 🤔. TL;DR; I'm aiming to offset our communities impact on the planet at https://ecologi.com/briskoda To that end, I personally do stuff, but I'm looking at the community, our impact, principally in delivering the community to you. I invite you to read on for yourself too. I had a few options, like a co2 neutral data center etc... That maywell happen when I can find one I think is a good match. In the short term though, I'm planting trees and buying co2 offset on behalf the forum. Which is essentially guesstimating how many tonnes of CO2 we burn for the servers/laptops to provide the forum. I've hooked up with Ecologi , if you signup to offset your personal CO2/trees, the planet gets bonus trees. CO2 The co2 is fairly easy, I'm covering it in excess this year. I'm also lumping in any miles I do for briskoda, which is nada so far this year. The assumption for our servers/network is roughly 430kWh per month in electricity. There is more in the whole chain, but it's almost impossible to calculate. This is about 754 miles driving for an average family car, or 300 ish kgs of CO2. I can only offset in tonnes, and the minimum is two tonnes. So this is easy, we're offsetting 2 tonnes per month. This I believe covers the pico/milliseconds of energy use over the millions of devices brisky data passes over to reach your eyes. Trees Trees, quite a few need to be planted for all the paper we've all used over the years. So inline with the overall goal of 1%, this roughly equates to 100 trees on top of the CO2 offset per month. Your own tree Each month from April 2021 we'll 'gift' a tree to a member. These are trees in the uk, with a what three word reference. You can save that and watch it grow from space I guess... in theory you can even go and give it a hug. Each month from the contributors to this topic/purchasers of tree clumps via our shop, all become eligible for each month. So buy once, your in the pot till I get bored, or the whole planet is a forest, in which case I'll be long gone, and so will you, mother nature 1, human 0. Month Winner April 2021 TBD The Future? There are some personal goals, I have quite a polluting hobby, driving lots of miles to climb a bit of rock. I'll be covering those of personally. Looking forwards for the community, there is much I think I can and we can do. I'm going to sit down one day and try to figure out the total since 2002... bit of fag packet maths required and it will have to be an overestimation too, especially for the miles driven for briskoda fun and business. So here's where your input comes in , thanks for reading this far too. Before I go much further, any other suggestions or schemes, maybe closer to home? I did email a few uk projects but no response, or not deep enough pockets, which brought my sad face on. If you want to add a tree or too, you can. Either under your own account, or add to the briskoda plantation/co2. : https://ecologi.com/briskoda and finally, they do have a uk tree planting scheme... which is what I was waiting for, although a tree is a tree. Thoughts? Each month I' also purchasing a UK tree planting slot. These are given initially to tree planters and other special awards. When exhausted or a spare slot, they will be awarded to a random member of freedom each month. 7. Clocked up 2k and had the benifit of a 6 hour round trip. Good Points. Roomy, swallowed 2 people + Dogs + Luggage with space to spare. Economy. Good Ave so far 48MPG and for my long trip 59 Mpg (but see niggles), easy to read above 50 on anything over a few miles. Niggles. Speedo: Over reads approx 5% vs GPS. This is dissapointing. I first realised it on cruise at 65 when i was overtaken by a lorry. After 8 years with cars ( Mercedes) that were spot on, this really niggles me. And also impacts the economy readings. Suspension: Really noisy over ripples, better on main roads. Daughters Fiat Panda shows how it should it can be done. Mystery Noise: Beep or squeal every few mins on the move, so high pitched i cant hear it but wife can. (trip to dealers to be sorted) High side affected by wind on motorway Seats not quite as comfy as I expected on long journeys despite playing with the lumbar support Wipers - Dreadful , brand new but dragging squeeling. Must replace. With more use, I agree that the engine as impressive as it may seem satisfies less the more its driven. It flatters to decieve, when you need it to get up and go, you find its already got up and gone... Verdict. At this moment I'm not feeling the love. I'm also tempering this with that fact i've barely driven for 6 months and now have to get used to a car with gears after 8 years in Autos. But i've got 4 years of this so i'll come back in 6 months and see if i've changed my mind.
  8. Looking for pics of yellow mk1 vrs. As in my opinion it's the best colour skoda did. Here is Mine. It is completely factory fresh.

But again, while someone, somewhere in the organisation would for sure be able to respond, it still involves someones time somewhere and therefore money (time is ALWAYS money). So there is a difference between able to respond, and willing to do it, especially for nothing. The 'experts at Skoda HQ' have plenty to do already. On the other hand, a forum like this is the place where you might get the answer. I don't have this information for Kodis but maybe somebody here does. I have current flow diagrams for older models (up to about 2012) and have looked up the info for people. Even then it can take half an hour or more just to research, and is information that I had to pay to obtain, though it's info that I can still get at. No issue with you asking for help, but I don't agree with your opinion on the support from SUK and dealers.
  10. It's where mine came from and have used them for servicing and more recently some warranty work as they're most local to me. They're generally good I find, reasonably flexible and communicative. Some of the warranty stuff needed a bit of pushing but I don't think that's a rarity amongst Skoda dealers.
  11. Some loaded and unloaded. Of the octy and now the superb... all on H&R 40mm
  12. @3T51704x4 I wish i had a £1 for every Mechanic / Technician / DIY'r with all the gear and not the time to whip out the plugs and inspect them. Especially with 1.2 & 1.4 TSI's. Euro4 & Euro 5.

That looks very smart. Health to enjoy it.
  15. How exactly does reeling off a list of Skoda part numbers support an assertion that fitting auxiliary springs made by a different company will "have a very negative effect on ride quality"? Yes the auxiliary springs will make the ride a little stiffer because the effective spring rate increases but it's not a "very negative effect", and is easily canceled out by the fact that the car is more stable on the road, and quieter because the suspension geometry is working properly and putting the tyres on the road correctly.
  16. I did just that after an eight year gap. It was the only car I truly regretted selling so when this one came up at the right time, I didn't hesitate to go and get it. I found myself mumbling at certain points when he made small errors but overall it was a very positive review. I am amazed though when people drive a standard car and say it's quick. I remember my first ever drive of a vRS back in 2006 and I was very underwhelmed. I had just sold a 200sx S14 and the Octavia felt very pedestrian but I knew it had potential & bought one of the last new ones for £12500. Bit of a bargain seeing as a second hand one was £11.5k at the time.
  17. Had a quick look, connections on the power steering include: - T2p/1 (Terminal 31/ground) - T2p/2 (Terminal 30/permanent power) is fed from a 80a fuse (SA2) of the main busbar (slot 2) - T5e/1 (CAN-L) - T5e/2 (CAN-H) - T5e/4 (Terminal 15/switched power) is fed from a 5a fuse (SC6) of the passenger compartment (slot 6) which agrees with the owners manual - T5g/2/3/4/5 all go to G269, I'm not sure if this connector is accessible or if it's internal to the steering rack The three T5e/x wires all go via an extra connector named T6j described as a 6-pin connector, on front left in engine compartment (black). Given nothing else is complaining about terminal 15, the fuse it probably fine but it's worth load testing the terminal 15 supply at T5e and T6j if you can find them. I can't be 100% certain the diagrams I have match your car either. No idea what's happening regarding the fans I'm afraid. Can't help but feel there might be more corrosion somewhere...
  18. Having gone the other way, and having literally just done a 150 mile schlep over to Scarborough, I'm feeling much better about the switch. The A3 was a lovely car, but at effectively double the money it wasn't worth it. Having got the Octavia on the 0% finance offer that was running last month means it's so much cheaper than the A3 (and I got an amazing deal on the A3 because of all the WLTP stuff going on 2 years ago).
  19. Currently I pay a total of £50 VED for our 2 cars (£20 for a 2008 Citroen C1 109g/km and £30 for a 2015 Octavia 1.4TSI 119g/km), in October I'm scrapping the C1 and getting a new Toyota Aygo which has lower emissions (99g/km) but the VED will be £135 the first year and £150 subsequent years so our VED bill will rise to £165 then £180. Hardly an incentive to buy less polluting vehicles....
  20. Totally agree👍👍, loved the video. Not that many cars around with a full size matching alloy spare in the boot. I bought mine in 2006 and it still raises a smile every time I drive it. Regular annual oil changes (fully synthetic oil) and Shell V Power petrol keep everything running sweet.
  21. Video has a lot of errors and found it a little hard to watch with half the video not in focus. But, good to see that people still do love the VRS.
  22. Buy another one then

I had this happen with a play 1 it refused to be seen after a Sonos app update, contacted Sonos and they suggested a ‘hard reset’ which cured it. Unplug the Sonos speaker from the outlet. Hold down the Play/Pause button while plugging the speaker back into the outlet. Don't take your finger off that button. After a few seconds it will start flashing amber and white. Once the reset is complete, the light will flash green. You’ll then be able to setup it up the same as a new speaker.

I wish this trend of using BBQ grills for car fronts would go away. They just make the car look like a grinning idiot.

I did one once for the Karoq but it was immediately after buying the car, a bit of rubbish really as I would fill it in differently now after 2 years ownership.
  27. Hi, We don't want the car sorted, we want to return it. The car was bought brand new, immediately it had problems and so at 2 weeks old a new gear selector was apparently fitted. However the errors continued after this which is where we have asked to formally reject the car and return it, as entitled under the consumer rights act. However Hendy have rejected our rejection saying there's nothing wrong with the car and no reason for us to reject it because the issue is one caused by driver error. Hence the problem we're in now. We believe the fault code B116229 is an actual fault, Hendy think it's to do with the driver turning the car off in Neutral. If you google the code B116229 it's synonymous with a failing microswitch and the repair is a new gear selector. Hendy believe otherwise?
  28. Once I have received the stereo that I have ordered will let everyone know how the installation goes, and how well the integration works 🙂
  29. Simplest to me would be a yearly rate based on weight and then slap the rest on the energy side of things so on fuel or electricity to charge. That way the bigger heavier polluting cars get hit more than something light and efficient and likewise those that use more 'fuel'. I get caught currently as I pay more tax on my old mx5 that is lightweight, relatively efficient and does bugger all miles a year than others that have big heavy polluting cars. My Suzuki is also in a higher band than my mum's jazz even though it is less polluting and lighter weight than the jazz... Go figure...
  30. BRISKODA For sales a perfect place to maybe get 1 alloy with tyre. Or even maybe a pair off alloys for 1 in each car.
  31. Well it's still a "spare" type wheel with speed limited to 50mph but has a higher side wall, the GTi one is only a tiny sidewall. I tried it but it wouldn't clear the larger discs, I'll look into a spare alloy so it's a straight swap in future, usually I just get it changed but my tyre man isn't available until next week and I'm wary about other fitters scratching my wheels. Thank you for replying
  32. Well done @skoman and thanks BXEman for an entertainingly informative account.
  33. Complicated to the point of being very impractical to calculate fairly and implement, unfortunately. Energy usage numbers are directly proportional to CO2 production for IC-engined cars, which is one of the reasons that is currently used. For electric cars it should be easy to measure as Watt hours per unit distance travelled.
  34. Many thanks to you both, such a simple process with a successful outcome! (I wonder what might have caused the failure of the auto feature in the first place?)

As a long time LR driver (30 years or so) that has finally had enough, I’ll happily take 13th. The Disco3 online community celebrated big time when LR was promoted from last place to 3rd from last. Looks like they’re going to be celebrating relegation, again.🤣🤣

So in conclusion the more you spend on your car the more disappointed you are likely to be as Land Rovers and Tesla's are not cheap brands.
  37. Good evening, bit of a strange question but hopefully you might know. I have a Polo R-Line with 17 inch alloys and full size spare tyre, I also have the GTi with 17 inch alloys but only a space saver. Today I have a puncture in the GTi and was wondering if I can use the full size spare from the other car instead of the space saver? I would imagine yes but don't want to try it and then find out I can't as the depth is different or something like that, surely they're interchangeable? Thank you for any advice. EDIT SOLVED Answer is no, not able to use the other wheel as the brakes are too big on the GTi

    Karoq waterproof . . . hihihih 🤑
  39. A full size spare doesn’t quite fit right, it will make the carpet sit a bit proud. It’s not built for a full size spare and honestly, a spare saver is better than nothing and it won’t affect how the carpet sits.
  40. Interesting, but I do strongly disagree with the comment that the Karoq suspension is noisier than the Yeti. My 17" wheeled 2019 spec Karoq (done 6500miles), if not perfect, is significantly quieter for road roar & bump thump than my previous Yeti (and rides better) - even after I'd changed the Yeti to 16" wheels - that's with the controversial Turanza tyres on the Karoq + it being so quiet in other respects would make road noise stand out more. Neither do I find side-wind stability a particular issue - after having formerly owned automatic BMW E39 523 & also Saab 9-5 over many years. Those cars had more road noise too. I find the seats firm but comfy, so does the misses, must suit our backs. The Saab used to give me a little back ache on longer journeys. I assume the car is a manual, certainly impressive economy and a bit better than I get with the DSG, which however is still good. On the other hand, I really like the way the 3cyl engine/DSG combo drives and even though no road burner, it has all the accelaration I need for overtaking + goes well up hills, both when 'gear lever' is dropped into Sport Mode - but a few others have suggested the DSG version might be nicer to drive than the manual. It purrs along at 70-90mph. Previous Yeti 1200/DSG combo also worked well if just a little noisier - the Karoq does need to use the Sport Gear lever mode more due to it's tendency to stay in as high a gear as it can get away with, but going into Sport is so easy and actually makes driving more involving Agreed about the awful noisy front wipers, as many have noted - got the Bosch replacements (2 lots) when going cheap some time ago on Amazon, but still not tried out.
  41. I'd like a 360° camera system.
  42. It could well be a remaining fuse or oxidised connection problem, the electric power steering is the most current hungry accessory and is the first to throw up fault codes when its supply voltage drops be it through a weak battery or voltage drop across a bad connection like the ECU fuse problem. I would start by checking & cleaning all the supply connections and the earths, then have a VCDS scan before playing parts bingo on the say-so of people that say "its most likely................." like the person who said your ECU was most likely to be the problem. Is the battery old? The car has been standing a while, dependant on how far your return journey was it may need charging.
  43. @ColinD Should the trees not be a prominent item in the Briskoda Shop?
  44. For launching the boat I used my wife's Rav4, saved getting the Yeti anywhere near salt water
  45. Probably the three best colours Skoda have ever done.
