  1. The ABS based system IMHO is fine, it does what you need, still no excuse not to check your tyre pressures manually, I do most weeks. As to the rRenault system I had nothing but problems with it on my C5 estate also rubbish on Fords .The battery on both systems fail far to easily also you get electrolytic corrosive around the valve seats causing pressure loss.
  2. A silver MK4 first edition hatch
  3. I bought what is possibly the last brand new Citigo E in the UK a few weeks ago. Shame it's the SE model, not the SEL with all the extras but that's life. Would like to share experiences with other owners. The photo is of it arriving at the Skoda dealer in Aldershot where I collected it. I did the purchase online/phone at their Winchester branch but it was more conveninet for me to colelct from Aldershot.
  4. Good luck you couldn't make this up and please keep us informed, would be interested to know what this would cost to replace. If not covered by warranty i would think you might have a small claims case to recover your money for the 2nd dealer to fix it. It depends on getting confirmation from 2nd dealer that the first did not install correctly. If they provide evidence it would be an open and shut case imo. Aggro but better to get it fixed then reclaim the money via small claims depends of course how much is the cost.
  5. And looks like the warranty is transferable - there's another link to the warranty T&Cs in the link you provided above: https://customer.vwfs.co.uk/content/dam/bluelabel/valid/www-vwfs-co-uk/documents/SKODA_Warranty–Terms_and_Conditions.pdf Brake fluid & aircon (and belts of course) not included. Looks like it is £768 fixed, not 'from'...
  6. Personally I wouldn’t buy a Superb with a sunroof due to the potential for it to leak now or in the future; seems inevitable that it will. Also, the fact is you might actually only use it 2-3 times per annum. My wife has an electric sunroof on her runout MKI 2003 2.0L Focus and she never uses it, except to dump air from the inside of the car when it’s hot, but you can just drop the windows on the Superb to do the same thing; the Focus does same too BTW. And yes, it has leaked, just once about 10 years ago which I fixed. But what I really dislike is they’re sooo noisy when they’re open. I understand that some people like them but given the climate ventilation system on the MKIII is, well, superb, so the use of sunroofs are all but irrelevant these days.

^ Looks lovely! Hope you put that driveshaft nut on, though
  8. One easy test if you have digital calipers, is to measure the wire diameter of the front and rear springs. In addition to the four standard ride height rear springs that I posted above, there are another six listed on the "vw online parts catalogue". 1 3Q0511115M coil spring Model data: PR-1JA+0YE 1 3Q0511115N coil spring Model data: PR-1JA+0YF 1 3Q0511115P coil spring Model data: PR-1JA+0YG 1 3Q0511115Q coil spring Model data: PR-1JA+0YH 1 3Q0511115R coil spring Model data: PR-1JA+0YJ 1 3Q0511115BC coil spring Model data: PR-1JA+0YK The last three aren't listed on autodoc. This isn't unusual as aftermarket springs aren't available to match all OEM part numbers. However, the three standard ride height rear springs from the list above do have their specifications listed on autodoc, as detailed below. 3Q0511115M (Diameter 12.50mm, Length 366mm) https://www.autodoc.co.uk/spares-search?keyword=3Q0511115M&supplier[0]=85 3Q0511115N (Diameter 13.25mm, Length 361mm) https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/oem/3q0511115n?search=OEN+3Q0511115N&supplier[0]=85&supplier[1]=1 3Q0511115P (Diameter 13.50mm, Length 361mm) https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/oem/3q0511115p?search=OEN 3Q0511115P It looks like 3Q0511115Q, 3Q0511115R, and 3Q0511115BC are incrementally stiffer than 3Q0511115P as you can see from decoding 0YG, 0YH, 0YJ, 0YK Decoding 0YG, 0YH, 0YJ, 0YK Build Codes 0YG = Weight range 7 0YH = Weight range 8 0YJ = Weight range 9 0YK = Weight range 10 You might have trouble finding the OEM part numbers from the coloured dots, as the "vw online parts catalogue" doesn't appear to list the above rear springs against the coloured dots. In addition to the front and rear springs, you might want to look to see if there are different thicknesses of anti-roll bars. However, if you have 13.5mm diameter rear springs you might already have the thicked anti-roll bars. But I'm just guessing about this as I haven't done any research on anti-roll bars for the Passat.
  9. Im on SW 1803 as of today , ive tested her and all seems well . Been here before but hoping its sorted. I have D version of unit built Dec 22 2020. I dont want to jinx but the info screen seems to move a wee bit faster.

very nice biggy7 , unfortunately i have to decide between business grey and lava blue
  11. Regarding the drive flange removal, I think it just enables a straight-line path outwards for the gearbox as it comes off. Otherwise that flange catches the gasket between block and bell housing and you have to battle much harder to get it clear (and back on when re-fitting).
  12. Well, I just had the same issue, with Car Play, not using the full screen, after I added a 3x3 view of car play to the main screen. The Car Play would always be "processed" in that size, no matter what. After I removed the "widget" from the home menus, it started to display in full screen again when I open the Car Play. Maybe that's the same with Android Auto...
  13. I can agree with your reasons for not having a sunroof, but for me they are outweighed by the advantages. The point you make about a sunroof robbing headroom is correct, but I find there's plenty of headroom anyway, so that doesn't matter to me. Oh, and I'm not that small at 6'1". As we're both retired, I rarely go anywhere without SWMBO, so I only have to ask for anything I want and it's handed to me. If it's sunglasses, I don't even have to reach up!
  14. The Manufacturers Warranty is 3 years, if a Warranty replaced part fails then it is covered to the end the Manufacturers Warranty. If replaced now then that is as long as it is covered to. 3 years from the cars First Registration in the UK.
  15. 1. No it's not and I'm not looking for an argument, you are. 2. Absolutely not, but I would tell them that their equipment won't survive five minutes in a garage workshop environment. 3. Of course I have, and I can tell you the operator had absolutely no idea how the equipment works, it's designed to be idiot proof for a reason.
  16. Same here. It's not as if we're F1 drivers where a fraction of a lb. makes a big difference to tyre and car performance and more importantly stability. The last thing most road drivers need is complex information flashing up in front of their eyes if there's a serious problem that needs dealing with fairly soon/urgently.

can i tempt you towards Quartz Grey ?
  18. @gm73Best check and see if there is a software update for your particular car, there might well be a Recall Action / Service campaign which you will not hear about unless the car is in at a Main Dealers, maybe not even then unless you are logging concerns with a Dealership. http://skoda-auto.com/services/recall-actions If there is one it will not necessarily show up here.
  19. From memory, it's available as an option if you require that. But my only experience with the Renault system was in a hire car in Corsica... when it would light up like a Christmas tree when one side of the car was bathed in sunlight! Chris
  20. Ah, sorry I thought I had that in that signature thing - it's a 2009, so that diagram will work! I hadn't looked close enough but obviously one has a brown stripe and the other has a black one, so I'll take a closer look! Cheers.
  21. When they clone a key, it has exactly the same UID in the immo chip so the car can't tell the two keys apart. This means that if either of the two keys are lost, you can either: - remove the UID meaning neither can start the car - leave the UID meaning both can still start the car The former sucks as you then need two new keys, the latter sucks as someone may use the lost key to steal the car Depending how the key was lost, the latter may not be an issue... If it's newly cut and not pre-coded, with the right tools it should be possible to correctly pre-code it. However, a dealer can't... As mentioned in the article I posted, pre-coding came in around 2006 so your keys will definitely use it.
  22. I think when you show the Mrs how wee a caravan your car will tow, I think the notion might subside somewhat

  24. Noo... There must be somewhere dry you can store the Capri! You could have used my garage if my MX-5 wasn't in it!! Hmmm... Wonder if I know anyone with an empty garage...

I also tried my hand at claiming compensation (from the dealership, after Skoda made their lack of legal obligation clear to me) and they didn't even mention it when they settled-up. I got all my deposit money and all of my payments back and, unlike some less fortunate than me, they didn't make any mileage/wear and tear charge, which I understand they have the right to do. A bird in the hand being worth two in the bush, I wasn't going to flog a dead horse and continue to press home a point about my loss of petrol making trips to the dealership, loss of flexi-time from work, loss of petrol left in the tank when I returned the car. At the end of the day, other than my insurance and petrol costs, I had a free car for over five months, so.... I would still recommend everybody aims high with their list of demands when complaining or rejecting, but on the basis of while it is your 'ideal', you will accept less during negotiation.
  26. Thanks @Ecomatt. The gearbox is actually better after it was serviced, but it is still not good. I've been given some info by Ross-Tech, so if I get a chance, I'll post the info in the project posting.
  27. As others will testify, and have written here previously, retro fitting a tow bar is not just a case of bolting some iron onto the chassis and scotch blocking into the electrics for lights. There are a number of considerations. Factory fitted towing equipment often comes with uprated engine cooling systems. The ECU needs to be able to detect when there is something plugged into the socket, this will disable certain functions and modify the effect of others. Such as proximity detection when reversing and stability control. Over the years I have had cars with a factory fit tow bar and some without. I always get the feeling I wish I had opted for it every time, even though I rarely tow anything, but we do have a ball mounted bike rack. If you go for a retro fitted one make sure the electrics are done properly and the ECU is able to recognise when a load is attached. I doubt anyone who has this done goes through bother of getting uprated cooling though!

Yeah, I have a sportline superb in Meteor grey which suits the black trims.. I added the chrome roof rails to the Kodiaq to match the window surround and grill.. and to lift the colour a bit.. In a SE I prob would of left black rails and blacked out the front grill myself.. and went for black..
  29. I think the whole issue of GPF's is still something to be dealt with as people gain the knowledge. Getting the part numbers will be a start and see what is what and what is fitted to what.
  30. I suppose it's adding dye to the refrigerant and using that to leak location test is what's frowned upon, if you know there's a leak.
  31. When I bought my Octavia, it had the foam insert in the wheel well, along with that rubbish gunge you use if you have a puncture. So I took out the foam insert and replaced it with a space saver wheel. The space saver is of course, quite thin, so there is a space between the wheel and boot floor. If I then did load something heavy in the boot, it would bow down into the space between the wheel and boot floor covering. I carry heavy loads regularly on dive trips, 4 full cylinders and dive gear in the boot, so I also need a strong floor. My easy remedy, I bought a large sheet of 5 ply plywood. Cut it to the shape of the boot floor and laid it down covering the whole floor, with the carpet and a rubber boot liner over the top. It is now very strong and certainly would be strong enough for a few bags of gravel. Below is a photo of the plywood inside the boot. The light part of the photo is only a reflection of the sun, that shiny thing we sometimes see in this country.
  32. For the underseat sub, see here (put one in a few weeks ago, BIG improvement): IMHO you'll get much better imaging with separate tweeters rather than coaxials. No experience with what fits in though.

Have to say you could be right re the trims. Ours is an SE in business grey and it looks well as it has no chrome pack on the sides so suits but higher specs do have a chrome pack as standard which would suit the darker quartz grey. And actually in certain lights the business grey does have a slight hint of blue...

I have a Kodiaq on order and have went for Quartz grey. I also agree about the slight blue tint to it in certain light.. Although thought it suited the car as the business grey was just a bit too light for my taste. I also liked the silver, but don;t think I could choose it from new.. I've had plenty of silver cars in the past though.. I also think the trim depends on colour too.. sportline vs SE L etc... more black vs chrome trims..
  35. Make sure that you have enough fluid in your brake fluid tank - I canny remember if the Octavia's are hydrolic or electric power steering pumps.
  36. At least i changed the water pump also to a mechanic one. When i said Distribution kit, i meant timing belt (sorry, local usage). It was the only thing that was worth it.
  37. Carista is excellent for doing simple adaptions, but as stated it lacks more advanced functionality. When you purchase Carista you get 1 months free trial of the advanced functions, by electing for for the 1 year subscription. This is via your App Store. You can cancel the subscription 1 day before the month ends and you have nothing more to pay. You can revive the subscription at any time you need it. Mark
  38. Just a thought, at risk of stating the obvious: If you have a broken wire in a loom, then its replacement doesn't have to be minimised in length. As long as you join the source to the destination with a new piece of wire with appropriate cross section, it will work OK. So splicing in can be done some distance either side of the break, at a place where the loom is easier to get at. The original broken section of wire is left in place but disconnected.
  39. Updated to advise I got the Toledo Xcellence. Fantastic car so far. The 1.0TSI is a great engine and the car itself is really comfortable. Cruises nicely and even the wife says she enjoys driving it. Fuel economy seems great for a petrol. Did you have to declare your remap on the insurance?

Picked up my new Superb from the dealer today. Absolutely love it!
  41. I'd recommend contacting TVS Engineering directly to see if they'll be able to tune your Octavia. I assume they'll be able to, being the same engine code. They have typically been very responsive in answering any questions I've asked. Your car is significantly lighter than mine, so your 'seat of the pants' and rolling acceleration gains should be even greater than what I experience. The ECU tune and DSG tune were completed as a package, and in terms of cost (after currency conversion) was approx. 1100 pounds
  42. Great writeup @CormacVrs. You must have a big kitchen to get the car in there for such handy work. .
  43. Cheers for the run through mate, bit more too it than I had hoped but it sets the interior off nicely doesn’t it
  44. The app used to control the modules is called lotus lantern and it connects straight away to the modules using blue tooth. Once you change the colour it changes on both sets at the same time. As I'm an iPhone user I cant get the app displayed on carplay but was thinking of purchasing this so I could and get wireless carplay as a bonus. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001692528940.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.69003587nN6aNL&algo_pvid=null&algo_expid=null&btsid=0b0a555b16197552979351560e1bb2&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_
  45. Wheels and new rubber on. VRS door bump strips painted and fitted. Side skirts painted and fitted. Still looking for a decent rear VRS bumper. Cupra R chin spoiler to go on at some point.
  46. No racing for me this year now-I entered my first Enduro the Fair City Enduro based in Perth and ,like most events, has now been cancelled. Ah well, just gives me more time to train and get fitter and come back strong for next year
