Update 2 On Friday, I collected my car from the bodyshop and, fair play to them, the repairs seem to be invisible. I’ve not yet been out to wash it but I cannot see any mismatches in paint colour or overspray or anything like that. I’m really impressed with what they’ve done. Needless to say, I’ve made sure it’s parked out of the way of the neighbours cars. Especially Luke’s.
  3. Don't talk crap George you have to drive over or under them! Covis-19 is too fat to fly and poor at tunnelling but good at turning left and right

Only if you have the family package plus, which includes sleep package, folding tables and window blinds
  5. They are in the directory maps\00\sds Each countries language is stored as the international plate. If the country has two languages it uses them but the other countries can be deleted, you must keep the meta_info.db Thus for GB delete everything else other than GB, keep the meta_info.db I got it from a German Skoda board so they were keeping Germany 😉. You can check by putting the unit into demo mode where you select your position for the demo and then navigate to a destination (should see that under advanced). Worked fine in France using the GB language. It's just how the languages are picked up and used. French roads got the correct pronunciation and the directions were in English. The people who identified this space saving mod were waiting to get abroad to try. No just do a demo navigation run. Since then it's a mod that has appeared across European boards as the trick became known. Only a short term fix though till the card out grows again. Yes I did try the sector size out but concluded as others did, it didn't help. But the language trick does.

another great review Irish review including head rests at 5 mins 46 secinds he spots a feature no one else has mentioned yet, looks like a new "simply clever" one! My enyaq is now at Emden, looks great in race blue
  7. This evening........
  8. It looks like Kay Burley having a bad hair day
  9. I've been sat here for a while waiting for the clouds to form a pleasing arrangement ..............
  10. Thank you sir, it's an age thing. Must admit when I read your post thought you'd solved my air con prob ! Oh well , saves me asking my personal IT adviser ( sarky daughter).
  11. An indicator light that goes out when the coolant is still below operating temperature is not ideal. Even the gauge in cars that have it doesn't show the true coolant temperature. It's been a bugbear with VAG cars for a very long time.
  12. Yep - got some the same myself before the car even arrived - they finish the vents off nicely, prevent stuff falling down them and cost the princely sum of £6...
  13. No offence taken, as sometimes the simplest of things get missed. On this occasion though I do have the AC on. I’m one of those people that just leave it on all the time and let the system do it’s thing.
  14. Even more good news. Owing to our driving patterns - several short journeys per week on e-power and one longer one on hybid power - I am likely to get about 800 miles on one tank of petrol. That is impressive for a 1.6tonne car with a relatively small 40 litre fuel tank. Another benefit of having a PHEV.

The original Stream (from memory) may not have had DAB so that could be why you only have the one aerial lead. AUX & power is via the quadlock connector.
  16. Got same problems, everything works fine, non dashboards warning lights, (didn't check VAG check up for code errors). Fabia mk2 2007 1.9 PD tdi. Starting cold car normally then i w8 like 30 sec to little warm up car, driving off on 1st gear, it happens slow start, bouncy start, seems like clutch don't bite, ... After 5-10 mins driving and warm up the whole car 1st gear seems normal no problem at all

Re the BT, do you actually have a BT module under the driver's seat?
  18. Not sure about that grill, but then I'm not a rapper.
  19. Love it, but I'm a detailer so I love to see clean cars

The mistake made is the opposite of that, you would have to be absolutely determined to drain the Haldex instead of the diff, it is possible that the OP may have drained the diff and topped up the haldex though. If there is noise the OP should stop driving and check carefully, "more noise" does not sound encouraging.
  21. What Ken meant was that the temperature gauge when fitted is useless, it conveys no information other than cold, normal or hot.
  22. Thanks for the tip @TheUltraRunner. The problem fixed itself and was gone the next time we drove the car about an hour later.
  23. I will 99% be there. Anyone else?!

Very little as there are other bits of the underbody and wheel arch trim that sit lower. Makes the front of the car look like ought to have been in the first place. Its OK with standard kerbs although I did get out and check it the first time. Still get ribbed by the wife about not catching my shiny bit of plastic.
  25. This really works? Need to try that. But I guess it's not usable by us, ordinary people.
  26. Same here, not a single problem with pACC and Travel assist. If I use navigation it will let go of the accelerator couple of seconds before actual sign (example 130 limit on the highway and 100 sign before tunnel) and just slowly break from 110 to 100 instead of breaking from 130 to 100. I really like when it outs car in neutral copule of hundred meteres before roundabout or intersection and slowly break. If I don't want for Travel assist to break on a sign I just put my foot on the accelerator.
  27. Behaviour seems to differ between versions and countries. For me travel assist works fine and is working well with nav data, slowing down before roundabouts and crossings, shutting off engine when on ACC mode and a slope is present. I have no problems with curves and lane changes, actually I like it and is very satisfied with it. The time I can let the car drive by itself is much longer than my last Octavia III, however I did not buy it to be able to take my hands of the steering wheel...
  28. But someone may try the wipers with bonnet up and that could lead to damage to bonnet and wipers
  29. Never had a Mk2 Phase1 or 2 Renault Clio then?
  30. Bolero does have maps but you have to upgrade 390 euro was the last price(there is a screenshot somewhere here) Sign recognition is part of a package(at least here) and it wants columbus indeed, but it should be possible to work without it. Line assist has nothing to do with navigation. ACC does due to some reason...
  31. Sounds like their initial 'it's user error' must have been a blatant and knowing lie, if they had eyeballed things from the inside at that point. If they do not offer to replace clutch and gearbox (assuming the independent assessment is that that is damaged more than cosmetically?) under warranty, seek legal advice promptly; and yes, they should definitely be supplying a courtesy car.
  32. It's good the report is in your favour but I guess you have to hope Skoda don't disregard it but if they did, I'd think you could have a good leg to stand on if you were to take legal action. No matter how you look at it though, Skoda have been pretty diabolical in the way they have treated a customer and your leasing company not much better.
  33. Hi all, Sorry I haven't replied for a while but have waited until I received the independent vehicle inspection which came through today. In short it confirms what I knew from the start - there was a manufacturers error with the vehicle from the point of delivery. Here's the verdict: Conclusion / Opinion: In the engineer's opinion, being based on evidence written, reported, and observed during this assessment of the above defects, the following can be concluded: From the details provided in the report brief, the engineer understands that the vehicle became stuck in first gear whilst stopped at a red traffic light, when the driver could move the vehicle, it was driven to a safe location and recovered into the repairer who have removed the gearbox and clutch components. The engineer can confirm that the clutch friction plate has disintegrated on one side, the debris from the disintegrated friction plate has caused the clutch pressure plate to disengage incorrectly, forcing the clutch release bearing and fork into the gearbox casing locking it to the casing preventing full clutch release and preventing gear change operation. The wear identified on the gearbox casing clearly indicates that the clutch release fork had been fouling against the casing, this would have affected the clutch application and release operation, possibly causing premature clutch slip not controllable by the vehicle operator. From the debris inside of the gearbox bell housing and clutch wear noted on the other side of the clutch friction plate, excessive wear has been occurring for some time. The wear on the gearbox casing and release fork suggests this has been fouling from the vehicles build date, the low recorded vehicle mileage would also confirm the fault was present at the point of sale. So, I feel good that I stood my ground and got the report done, BUT now I'm lost as what to do next. I've just shared this with Skoda and the Ombudsman so I'm waiting to see what they come back with. I'm not mechanically minded AT ALL and the technical terms are beyond me. My question is what next? To me it reads as though there a substantive problem with vehicle and doesn't sound like an easy fix. Indeed, is it a fix or is it inherently knackered...? What should I reasonably expect from Skoda now? It's been over two weeks since this happened and I've been without a vehicle. I'm a paramedic and have been very fortunate that my neighbour has lent me her car a couple of times and my crewmate has also picked me up (miles out of their way bless them) and I'm still struggling to get to and from work. Is it reasonable to be asking for a courtesy car (at no charge to me) whilst this gets sorted out which will invariably take time...? Any advice appreciated. Thanks all BC
  34. For anyone interested in this, I used a 144 i.d copper crush washer from Eurocarparts - cost 69p instead of the £3.50 aluminium washer from the main dealers. It seems to be working perfectly. Link...https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/sump-plug-washer-single-14-00-x-20-00-x-2-00-333771251 It doesn't seem like much of a saving, but I hate buying anything with a ridiculously inflated price. They probably cost main dealers pennies. Savings across the board for my service, using Mann filters, NGK spark plugs and Millers fully synthetic long life oil consisted of a total servicing cost of £65, against the £300 - £319 the main dealers wanted.
  35. I find as a rule of thumb "if it does no harm, then replace it". If you wish to replace the filters early it will not damage the car. I currently live in a rural area, and change my filters at the required time, however when i lived in Germany, near a very dusty and dirty industrial site, with a lot of airborne particulate matter, i changed my filters more regularly. I still remove my pollen filter and give Henry some lunch once a year Replacing air filters are not an onerous task
  36. And here goes my theory. Till now all cars without a letter at the end of the device part number had software version 16xx.
  37. I've just successfully rejected an Octavia iV lease car after a few weeks of 'owning' it. It was delivered with plastic transport blocks still in the suspension and I couldn't get the infotainment screen to work properly or load a driver profile. It also didn't run as well as my previous MkIII despite having the same engine. It just struggled on and off the throttle like the fuelling was all over the place. Back to the dealers. They did three software updates one of which improved the engine mapping but it still wasn't quite as good as the MkIII. When I went to drive back from the dealers the infotainment screen wouldn't do anything even after a reboot so they kept it in for another day. The next day driving back the cruise control worked for about half the journey then it wouldn't select/engage. Back again, more software. After all that the infotainment screen still froze on the loading driver profile screen at start up every couple of journeys. All that in just 400 miles so I gave up and rejected the car. I MUST point out that the supplying dealer which obvously didn't PDI the car properly and the dealer who was lumbered with task of sorting out the issues were two different dealers. I thought Skoda as a company was at fault for not writing the cars software properly not the second dealer tried to bend over backwards to sort it for me but at the end of the day can only install the software Skoda have written. I now know that the SEAT Leon and Golf Mk8 also have similar issues so it would appear software is causing issues throughout most of the VAG group, not just Skoda.
  38. I don't know about anyone else, but it's been really annoying here with dusty rain! We've not had much rain here recently, but any there has been seems to have picked up some of the Sahara! So both the Tig and Eunos washed - let's see how long they stay dust free.....
  39. I seem to fall foul of the "Do not disengage clutch above 1300 rpm" eco tip. I regularly take an exit off a motorway (120 km/h speed limit) that is uphill to a roundabout so usually press the clutch and use the uphill and light braking to slow the car down as I inevitable have to stop at the roundabout. Looks like I should be going down through the gears to use the engine to slow the car, but I inevitably have to stop and get into first gear at the roundabout while I wait for a gap in the traffic.
  40. Honestly it's amazing how quickly your muscle-memory has you pressing the start button and flicking the lane-assist off 0.5 seconds later before you have even realised you are doing it.
  41. Well, it’s not a sealed unit and automotive ac systems are well documented as to leaking up to 10% of gas per year, through compressor seals, and flexible hoses etc.
  42. You can disable it quickly using the driver assistance button on the right hand side of the steering wheel and then push the rolling switch (also on the right hand side). You can do this when driving if you forget before you start.
  43. I ran a VW UP 1.0 Tsi 90 to over 40k miles mapped to 143 bhp and I think I used 1/2 litre of oil in 4 years of hard use. No problems at all, cracking little engine.
  44. ? What car are you thinking about with a 1.0TSI? There are early ones without a GPF & then later with. Gasoline Particulate Filters. 5 years back nearly. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/415528-octavia-10-se-estate http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/402506-10-tsi/page/3 http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/477734-10-tsi-115-engine-has-anyone-seen-big-miles-out-of-one-yet
  45. Oh you need to try launch control then! It’s a complete riot, release brake with throttle planted and it takes off like a scalded cat no fuss no wheelspin just brutal acceleration that puts a huge smile on your face.
  46. The 4x4 does handle a lot better and of course it is better on snow than a 2wd.. yes the 2wd with winters is ok and gets through most British winters but the 4x4 is another level. Also helps with getting out of muddy festival fields.. I’ve had both 2wd and 4wd. Also depends on how you drive but 4x4 does work very well in the wet when pulling out of junctions and in standing water situations.. I do 2k miles a month in mine and notice the subtle differences the 4x4 makes over the 2wd. Fuel economy is compromised slightly though and servicing costs are higher because of haldex oil changes and filter cleans every 30k. Mine isn’t the raised option though. I have the sportline and it’s lowered. My reason for buying 4x4 was handling, surefootedness and because were go snowboarding and skiing in Europe regularly
  47. Morning, it was the official Nextbase kit with the ferrite included. Now it’s out of the car I’d hoped if it was this causing the issues it should of been resolved taking it out. It’s a complete mystery. The fitters booked the car in at ŠKODA to see if they can resolve it so I can’t fault him with trying to resolve it.
  48. Hello there, Did you forget to install the ferrite core next to wrap around the 5V DC USB feed to the Nextbase Camera? If you don't do that, there will be electrical interference which will knacker up DAB. Thanks Max

Not everyone needs to make use of public chargers all of the time -for a lot of people a home charger will suffice for 80/90% of the time. That's what works for me -day to day commuting: I top the car up once or twice per week from the 7Kw charger installed in my garage and my car does not have a particularly impressive range Took the car to Anglesey (from Lincoln) recently and charged up at 2/3 of the way there using a 50Kw charger in Chester which gave me what I needed in less than an hour to finish my journey without any stress. I then charged up at Morrisons (GeniePoint) a couple of times while there. Stopped at Chester again on the way back.
