  1. Following advice on this forum I changed the cabin filter. I used a Bosch r2543 which fitted perfectly (activated carbon). Cost under £11 delivered and 5 minute job. I have a 2016 1.4tsi.
  2. The Fabia III has the AC running all the time. If you have the AC button off it still runs but at about 6%. They run the cheaper AC gas R134a not the more expensive R1234yf. My car will turn it on automatically if the dials are adjusted to certain positions. Like direction to windscreen and or heat to cold. Did one of my car's AC on Saturday. Recovery was 195 g and refilled with 450 g. This car had lost just over half of the refrigerant since last time I did it, 5 years ago. Thanks, AG Falco
  3. VRSs are shipped only with two sizes of wheels. 18" are 225/45/18 and the 19" are 225/40/19. If I would be buying a VRS now, I would probably go with the black 18" wheels and used them as a winter set. For the summer set I would buy a new aftermarket set.
  4. Today, 8.5 weeks after the part was ordered, I got the call from Skoda. My car is booked in for next Monday to have the infotainment control unit replaced. They have offered me a loaner car for the day.
  5. Hi guys, thanks for interest.....but i sold the car a couple of weeks ago and should have deleted ad...... However, i would say that this model is a good project starting point. I previously owned a stock 1.9 tdi Ambiente and wanted to upgrade. So starting with a PD130 (ASZ) engined L+K was a good base to make a vRS version with a diesel engine, something Skoda never made in the MK1. I had to wait a while for the right one to be available....it had to be the black interior and not the far more common "puppy dog poo" tan version !! I think i pretty much achieved it with the mods i made, the Bilstein shocks and rear anti rolll bar fitment making the biggest difference. Good luck finding another one !!
  6. As I'm having the common navigation problem regarding it not saving my home address or any other addresses/last locations, I have been using Google maps. At the weekend I went up to the Peak District, and found out by chance that if you have route guidance on in Google maps but with the announcements turned off, the the next instruction is shown on the virtual dash in much the same was as the Skoda nav does. It only works however, when you have the route guidance on either side of the virtual dash, as in inside the speedo or rev counter, it does not pop up at the top like with the Skoda nav (apart from when you first scroll to route guidance it seems to pop up briefly) Thought this might be of some use to those that weren't aware 👍🏼
  7. I wish broadcasters would agree a sound level standard. The BBC keeps reasonable sound levels, but ITV just screams at you with compressed sound, particularly daytime TV. 5.1 or now even 7.1 or 9.2 reductions on Sky can sound very odd. There also seems to be an issue with amp designers of 5.1 AV receivers sound tuning systems or room equalisation. Some amps are extremely loud others don’t seem to perform till turned up to 90%.
  8. There's no official part number for that one:) But you can buy it on ebay. I've ordered that one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133767512180 but it was different to what was inside. The one inside looked like that one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133727586122 I am replacing the whole rocker cover so wasn't too much worried about the fit.
  9. That's really helpful @aerofurb. One question about your IV now I see the photos. It looks like there is a slight drop between the boot floor and the load sill. How big is that drop? Greater than 5cm/2"?

Wow, what a rubbish way of saying "thanks Chimaera and Wino for setting me straight".
  11. No problem. You have provided some really useful info. Thanks for taking the time to respond.
  12. I suspect you need to have "Amundsen" (not Bolero) to get the directions in the VC.
  13. Check your PMs. Please note I will not be available until September 6th so the requests for SW update will be on hold.
  14. smashed it... 11seconds faster down the hill than yesterday! put me in a right good mood heading to a site meeting. esp as it being a non WFH day, i have to be home earlier to get geared up and head off, so it was only up to the top of the steep bit of long hill, not the whole way across the top to the proper peak. nearly ended up in another bush on the way back down again too... ground is getting soft up there now, with all the recent rain and less drying out time. so traction on the steep tracks is getting harder to find, and the grass being wet on the way down.... uh-oh's are gonna be more frequent i think...
  15. Glad you found it useful. What mismatched tyres tells me (rightly or wrongly), is that whoever changed the tyres either didn't know what they were doing, or didn't much care and just bunged on what seemed most suitable at the time. I'm a bit OCD with tyres, so mismatched tyres bothers me. (At least match the tyres on an axle.) Judging by the tyres, I get an idea of how fussy the previous owner was about other aspects of car maintenance. If they'll put random tyres on without matching them, then I assume that they're not particularly fussy about doing things "properly" on their car. Service intervals, etc. Such people are the sort of people who ignore service intervals, dashboard warning lights, and odd noises, so long as they can still get from A to B. But it's hard to know for sure what the previous owner did, and what the garage selling the car has done to get it ready for sale as cheaply as possible.
  16. Michelin Primacy 4 (205/50/R17)
  17. Autotecnic - Audi | BMW | Mercedes | Seat | Skoda | VW | Specialists Sheffield - near Meadowhall bus/tram interchange. I've used them for all my Skodas once they were out of warranty.
  18. It could very well need a FEC (Feature Enable Code).
  19. Might be worth using the owners map/list to find someone local. Seem to be a few in South Wales
  20. Sport makes the steering feel heavier, with it in drive and ECO being the sane and making the steering feel really light.
  21. As it's got at least 3 different brands of tyre on it, a set of matching new tyres could be viewed as an opportunity, not a problem. The car looks nice, the engine is a great variant, and if you contact Skoda, you should be able to get the service history on it. Check that what needs to have been done at the various mileages has been done, and if it drives okay, you should be good to go. The attached service menu should give you an indication of what should have been done, and also what you have to look forward to needing to have done. The £449 cam-belt & £60 brake fluid changes should have been done at 50k miles, so those are good checks to make, likewise the £139 air-con service at 60k miles. If these haven't been done, get haggling on the price. You can change the pollen filter yourself for £10-£15, but if you don't fancy doing that, it would have been nice to have had that £35 bill taken care of for you. (No biggie if it's not been done, though.) Good luck!
  22. Had a go at knocking back some rust yesterday. Backed over the pit and went at it for a few hours. What I ended up doing was: -Grind back as much of the rust as possible -Kurust -Zinc oxide primer -Isopon stonechip (if thats the name of it) -Finally sprayed over all that with a tin of VW candy white. I was hoping the white would match the rest of the car underneath. It did not. Access wasn't as good as I hoped so the bits I couldnt easily reach I got in with a wire brush and knocked back as much as I could. Didnt do the rear beam as I intend on swapping it out for a disc one in the future. The whitelines paint is already flaking off on some parts, I've only had it on since January, thought it would have held up better but a bit of paint will sort it out. Also it seems to have slackened off on the two clamps somehow, tightened it back up with the impact and immediately the cars tight as ever. I'll have the front over the pit next time and do that half of the car, doubt theres much to do but worth checking.
  23. See. I've told you. Made by Hephaestus!
  24. Let's unwrap this because it's a complex subject. The Jikov and Pierburg happen to have the same baseplate, so you can swap one for the other as long as the new one has much the same jets. Let's presume you're contemplating a swap for reliability rather than more power or better economy. Now most manufacturers of compound twin choke downdraft carbs realise this offers a decent market, so they make their their baseplates the same size too, and this means that a Dellorto, Solex or Weber, or indeed a Ford or GM downdraft compound will physically bolt on in place of a Jikov. You may have to modify the throttle and/or choke operation and/or the carb top plate or air cleaner base, but if you can buy one that's already jetted for your engine, all you need to do is set the idle and mixture screws, then drive off into the sunset. If you want more power, then the picture changes; now we want to fit a horizontal twin choke carb on a different manifold, and unless you can buy one ready jetted for your engine, you will need a bot of jets and some rolling road time, but the results can be spectacular. I've seen a 5 port Skoda 1300 engine with custom manifolds and silencer, and a Weber 40 DCOE carb making 120 bhp at the wheels, call it twice what the standard engine makes at the flywheel.
  25. It tends to show on the display in the middle of the instruments. There's also the option in the settings to swap it as well.
  26. I can now proudly say, I own a 62 plate 1.6 TDI CR (105bhp) Monte Carlo
  27. have ordered some hydra clean will try the static regen. thanks to all who helped me.
  28. There isn't a specific fuse for the footwell lights. If you have a maxidot cluster, there should be a setting to disable them. Otherwise, you could just take the bulbs out
  29. 1 point
Yes, it depends on the engine.
  30. I'd go main dealer over independent until your warranty expires, then independent
  31. It seems like AutoExpress are still willing to spread the word about the terrible VAG MIB3 systems: 'The latest infotainment systems in some VWs aren’t fit for purpose' | Auto Express And the hopeful thing is that they say VAG are working on software improvements still. Perhaps they'll put some more effort into it when they've got their electric cars sorted? Chris
  32. ^^^ That tells you about not warming the engine when stationary. Just do not thrash it until the oil heats up a bit. The colder around freezing or lower the longer that will be, So no wait when starting or when stopping. The Engine /Turbo take care of themselves.
  33. Pretty sure that all Euro mandatory emission and consumption regulations are required to be met with 95 Ron. No idea whether that would apply to published power figures but considering how easy it is to boost power outputs from software changes why would they resort to 'special' petrol.
  34. Well my car is the 2.0tdi 16v diesel, but.... If you locate the bottom hose on radiator, & follow it along its path, you will come to T junction & there you will find the g83 fan sensor, took me 2 days to find & there in different places per engine but.. The common factor is its in the bottom hose. The g62 is easier to locate, again in the coolant hose right side below cylinder block, there both the same size & deal, ebay £6.90, but check it fits your vehicle
  35. All sorted Again thanks to @UrbanPanzerfor the link ... received a genuine OEM sensor within 24hrs of ordering. The old one was an awkward one to remove - it snapped off at the base, so had to drill into what was left, and lever it out ... came out eventually though. All remaining debris removed, and also the raised segments on the drive shaft were also cleaned up (thanks to @Murdockman for the heads up on that area) ... It's been 4 days now since the new one was fitted, had lot's of rain, sunshine and still no ABS sensor lit, so (fingers crossed) the fault has been cured. Appreciate all the replies and helpful advice
  36. The EA288 motor has various stages of DPF regeneration : • Passive regeneration ( when the engine is up to temp and the car is used mostly on a motorway at a steady speed - the user will not normally notice this regeneration) • Heat-up phase - ( when the engine is cold - the ECU goes in to a pre programmed heat up phase to bring the DPF up to temp quickly - identified by the higher idle after startup ) • Active regeneration ( The ECU measures the back pressure or soot loading of the DPF and goes in to active DPF regeneration mode - normally identified by a raised idle speed even when the engine is at full temperature ) • Regeneration trip by customer ( Customer must go for a drive to force the regeneration to complete if the DPF light comes on in the dashboard ) • Service regeneration ( Forced DPF regeneration by connecting the dealers diagnostic computer when normal regeneration is not possible ) • Mileage regeneration ( as a safety backup - the ecu will perform an active regeneration every 465 miles regardless of the soot loading of the DPF if it has not registered a COMPLETE regeneration cycle in the last 465 miles )
  37. I thought there were but the target was to get it working via the workaround. Massaging the country code to make it look like Europe. Other than that more surgical work on the firmware. That would be hitting it with a crow bar rather a light tap. 😉 Anyhow those frigs are what people do on import units and import cars out of region. All free, no retrofitter required. I love your links BTW.
  38. Good find! The sooner water leaks are sorted, the better. My Mondeo leaked a little in heavy rain, and in winter, I used to find loads of condensation inside. Though it shifted with the heated windscreen, it wasn't particularly nice. So I used these to solve the problem, and just got into the habit of using them. https://www.amazon.co.uk/ANSIO-Interior-Dehumidifier-Condensation-Dehumidifiers/dp/B01C6V5IVG The 5-pack has gone up in price from about £5 to nearly £8 now, so I bought a 10-pack last time I bought some. These have all sorts of uses. When my kid dropped his phone in some water, I switched it off, bunged it in a ziplock bag with one of these, and a couple of days later gave it back to him. But mostly I just leave on in the boot, and one in the passenger compartment of my car, especially now I'm not using it much as I'm working from home. Edit: I've just changed the one in my boot (old one on left,), and as you can see, the white crystals have all gone, and there's a load of water now in the bottom of the container, so they do draw a fair bit of water out of the air over time.
  39. If they’re the ones with the screws through or those external rubber seal with holes, they hold the lights in. There should be screw on plastic washers to keep it tight. If they’re missing, you’ll need to get a pair.
  40. What a bizarre menu! Eggnog, Truffles, what on earth are these???
  41. I didn't take the rear bumper off I attacked it from the inside removing the interior trim so I could see it easier.
  42. I have just noticed this on my fabia 2 vrs. I have taken out the rear lights and have run some water down the channel above the lights with a watering can. 2 minutes later the water is in the spare wheel well. It seems to be getting in through the black plastic air vent covers 🤷🏿‍♂️. I may have to take the rear bumper off to get a good view.
  43. Collected mine yesterday
  44. The 1.5 (like my 1.4) will have less torque, and do fewer mpg. End of downsides. It’s noticeably quieter, quicker to give you some heat on a winter morning, and - my main joy - you can nip to the local shops without worrying about EGR and DPF woes.
  45. Want the best performing and better looking hatchback get a GTI, want the best performing and better looking estate get a VRS. Simples.
  46. Picked up my new Kamiq 1.5tsi dsg four days ago. love it already, so far, so much lighter and more responsive than the Karoq, loads of space, quiet , very smooth and already 47mpg. My twelfth Skoda and hope it will be equal to the others ( octavia, vrs, superb/ estate karoq etc)
  47. I have figured it out. It was a problem with Google Assistant. I had this linked to my old (Free) Spotify Account. So in summary, Waze was fine, Google Maps was fine and Spotify was fine. Although just to note that you can link Waze & Google Maps from the Spotify app. Thank you for trying to help.
  48. It took a while to arrive due to Covid, but it’s finally here. 1.5 TSi DSG SE-L, Race blue, with Full Leather, Reversing camera and heated screen. Really pleased so far.
