  1. Sadly not true.. (well not here and anymore) I believe the airbags on US models are typically designed to protect including those not wearing a belt. However European cars have a bag shaped to provide maximum head protection for belted occupants. Besides which it’s still not worth the risk even if true. Change it and if a bit of crud is extracted from the old one and it works again, then sell it to recover your costs. Edit: FWIW, I benefited from a wheel airbag a good few years ago. Even as the column is collapsible, the bag still slows the impact of your face. To be fair I’m fairly certain the bulkhead moved in that accident, so I wouldn’t be without it👍
  2. Recently, It was posted information about activation functions like: AA, Mirolink, Carplay, Navi and so on. But that solution could'n activate VIM/MIM (video in motion). New patch was released here, interface more friendly. So if you need to activate these features you will need d-link dub E-100 adapter. Putty and SD card with the patch. Copy folder to SD card, copy folder with the patched files to patch folder (don't delete or rename anything), insert this SD card in your MIB2, Run Putty, Telnet IP:172.16.250.248 port:123 Login:root; password: see here (keep in mind password will not be visible just press enter after you paste it from file) send 2 commands: mount -uw /net/mmx/fs/sda0/ /net/mmx/fs/sda0/start and you will see list of options: press 1 if you need to unlock VIM, then Mib will reboot log in again using Putty, press 3 if you need activate (AA,Carplay, Navi and so on) before patching BU will be created and copied to SD. Video instruction p.s Readme.txt has more infromation about each comand. README.txt

I think manufacturers are going overboard with illumination, Blackpool on wheels springs to mind.... Also, it's a gimic the battery has to power, that extra mile used could be critical 😁
  4. If you look at your photograph you can see splashes of diesel all over the lower bodywork, those will have overflowed the filler neck having overcome the capacity of the drain tube so I definitely would expect to see a patch from the drain tube in that exact position.
  5. Nice easy ride today, 2 or 3 newcomers so 13 in total

Well it is doing its job of not allowing any EGR perfectly without any side effects or fault codes as it always has done. I do however seem to be having very frequent regenerations often after long runs towing a very heavy trailer when I would expect passive regens to occur. I cant say what the frequency is because I keep leaving my VCDS in another country, an app is out of the question for me.
  7. Oh I don’t doubt that, but I’d be charged ridiculous money for them. It’s just shy of £1100 for a set of 19’s from ŠKODA. as long as the fit is ok, I’d be confident of getting nicer looking wheels far cheaper elsewhere. whoah, not sure how this double post happened
  8. Well Skoda have relented and agreed the changes and still price protected. So happy days. Me 1 dealer 0. 😄
  9. There is another thread somewhere. Several people, myself included have used CR2032 batteries. They are marginally deeper but still fit ok and they seem to solve the issue...
  10. Glad you took my advice and it is now working.
  11. The tracks clean up easily enough but for such a fragile part with the potential of bits taking flight its not really worth the risk unless you are stuck somewhere. This type of fault is happening more and more where switches are no longer switching the load but just a small control current to the relevant canbus module which in turn operates relays, they dont exhibit symptoms of the contacts oxidising and once the signal falls beneath a certain threshold it is ignored by the recieving module.
  12. New switch arrived, got it fitted and car fires straight up... Still got 2 relays arriving Tuesday because they're cheap and known to be twitchy.. Thanks for all the input (including @J.R.) I appreciate every reply.. Added a pic of how the old one came out, in spite of using picks to depress the clips..
  13. Must be broken at one end or the other, I think.
  14. My last delivery date was 5 November off skoda uk .that makes about 22 weeks from order to delivery .i hope.
  15. I wont make the same mistake again.

I don't really understand why you need replace the sump plug, it's steel with a captive steel washer.

Cheers Carlston. Can get today from wuro car parts, this looks the same im thinking
  18. Bump... After some struggling with scrapyards being open, new jobs etc, I found myself a silver door with the correct motor and loom... And it works! The panel lights up, lock and unlock buttons work, and both windows go down and up. Happy endings all round. The mirror controls don't seem to work but I'm not fussed, I shall use my god given hands to move them
  19. Picked up a 2018 Superb Estate SE Greenline Technology yesterday...
  20. The electric pump that comes with the car has a long enough cable to go all the way round from the boot socket.
  21. PS. ^^^^^ Yesterday was much cooler, 15*oC during the day, and cooler night. What an improved miles per kWh in the mid teens compared to over 20*oC. AC was still on and set at 15*0C as the day before. The car just seems happiest when the ambient temp is lower, just not that much below 10*oC. ....................................................................... Very informative.
  22. Thanks @ahenners! I’ve had it for just under a month now, and absolutely love it. When I test drove it (albeit the 190bhp petrol), it just felt natural after coming from the Octavia. We all know the VAG hierarchy, so it does have a lot more squishier plastics all round the cabin, and it’s certainly a lot quieter even after all the work I did on the Octavia…To be fair, I do spec the ‘Acoustic Pack’, which gives double-glazed front windows and additional sound deadening. I also went for the nappa leather interior and 360 degree camera, so it is a lovely to place to be in. It’s a very different drive to the Octavia, taking a very relaxed approach, certainly not a driver’s car, but for munching miles it’s bang on. The thing I do miss is the Octavia’s gargantuan boot! The Arteon’s is longer, but the rear seats I think are more laid back, and the boot is 20cm shallower with it’s hybrid battery under the boot floor - I had the perfect Tetris setup with my dive gear in the Octavia, so need to work that out again 😅 Fuel economy is good for such a big car too; we came back from a week in Ardnamurchan yesterday (no phone signal and very intermittent internet there), it managed 43.5mpg over 488 miles with a week’s luggage and two kayaks on the roof. We charged it before we left and got a quick charge in a service station giving about 30 EV miles total. The hybrid system is excellent, as it works with the inbuilt Satnav (which I think get’s it’s traffic data from Google maps), and shuffles seamlessly between ICE and EV depending on whether you’re on the motorway or in an urban area. This is the first car I’ve driven where stop/start actually makes sense. And finally, I love the fact that they are rare - I’ve seen a maximum of 5 of the hatchback on the road since I’ve had it, and no shooting brakes, so I’ll be gutted when I see another for the first time 😂 We got caught in a few traffic jams on the way up and down from Scotland and the amount of people taking a second look was funny. Thanks @VRS_White_Hatch , regards to price, yes, it is expensive, but it’s a company lease, and believe it or not, when I specced up a Superb as closely as possible, the cash price of the Superb was slightly less, but the lease price was almost 10% more than the Arteon! Cheers, Nick
  23. Excellent post, thanks! I’ll forward this to my buddy who bought my car 👍 Nick

For anyone that's interested. Shouldn't be too long before this is available.
  25. A brief rattle is normal on the EA111 as oil pressure builds on the chain tensioner. I have this engine in a 1.4 tsi Superb and it has always done this if left for a while. I've owned from a 14months old /14k miles - it's now 7 years old/ 96k miles and sounds just the same as when I bought it.
  26. It’s a comparison with first half of 2020, when many areas were in lockdowns March-June But then PR spin would not allow a comparison with most recent normal year 2019 Can’t find one for 6 months in 2019, but there is 9 month one, so can take 2/3 to compare https://www.skoda-storyboard.com/en/press-releases/skoda-auto-increases-sales-revenue-and-operating-profit-in-first-nine-months-of-2019/
  27. Or buy one of these... https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=12v+extension+lead&crid=2FIMR47OPKRCE&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_1_2
  28. There's a new law, that simply requires to have winter tyres on 4 wheels or to have snow chains (only for Drive wheels) in your boot from... let's say 11/15th to 3/15th (to be verified, I give these dates just on the top of my head) if you live (or even just drive thru) in specific departments know for snowy winters (French Alps, Pyrenees, Massif Central, Jura, Alsace...) I also have 19" wheels and bought 17" wheels for winter tyres. Nothing to complain about.
  29. Just posted on another thread ... but I have been getting very good MPG even fully load - 40-45MPG I looked long and hard at diesels across Skoda and other brands - live in London (ULEZ nightmare) - finally decided on a petrol and wanted 7 seats - we do low mileage (7.9k per year). Looked at 2.0 Litre and thought mmmm....18 stone extra weight of 4 x 4 and more potential problems down the line. Do I really need 4 x 4. So only way to decide is to test drive. Spent about 3 minutes in a automatic 1.5 petrol and ... no brainer, so surprised with the power, cylinder shut off, economy, etc. Have come from grunty high litre diesel and this does not disappoint - best car I have owned. Last week I had 5 x adults (all over 6 foot - yes we are a tall family!!) and 2 x kids in the boot - no problem whatsoever. I'm still being ribbed about having a Polo sized engine in my car ... but test drive it and you'll be somewhat surprised like me.
  30. Yesterday a good friend of mine needed a lift to Morecambe to collect his new Ioniq 5 Project 45. I took the opportunity to have a proper trip in the Enyaq, a test drive of the Ioniq and a wee head to head test on the way home. https://youtu.be/aPkbx3Zhb_A
  31. Okay, that makes sense. My gut would tell me to walk, TBH. I suspect that car has not been repaired to the standard a loving owner would repair the car to, it's been repaired to get it back on the forecourt at the minimum cost.
  32. It varies, but the official line i keep hearing is 5 years or... That's clearly not something all dealers do, but an affiliate in what way? If they're owned by the same parent company I'd want something of a guarantee from the parent company Personally I'm running a mile again. But VAG reapairs on VAG cars at VAG dealers attract a 2 year warranty on those parts. Again, this doesn't add up, so I'm running another mile. Nice words and all, but it is either 3 months of 12 and the dealer would need to put it in writing. Also read the smallprint of the warranty with great care. You'd be surprised that a lot of warranties (don't know about this one) don't cover a lot of things you would assume would be on an quick glance. Hmm, but that's a temporary situation, which will likely be resolved in a few months as availability of newer cars come to market. I'd still walk away. Zero scope for negotiation when it's had a rebuilt engine = let somebody else pick up the repair job and pay the money you would for one without that history. I'd walk away. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying they pulling a fast one. They have told you about the rebuild, which is more than many car resellers would do. For me the big question is what got replaced? For example: - Did the exhaust/DPF get replaced after the blown engine chucked oil down it? - Did any of the bouncy engine bits that left via the exhaust damage the turbo? - Did the in head injectors get damaged? It's direct injection and interference design, so with bits bouncing around it's possible there was damage. I'm sure I've missed others, but any of these would be a big bill for you to foot. If you don't need to take that risk, why bother.
  33. I would expect at least a click from the module, if the wire between pin 2 and the fan control module is unbroken, maybe check the continuity of that brown/blue one; pin 3 of the 6-way connector at FCM. Were all three of the fuses I mentioned OK? Check that you have 12V (always) at pin 1 of that 6-way and at also pin 2 when the ignition is switched on; while you're there. Both fans may have completely worn out and failed at both speeds; they are 20 years old if original. Brushes sticking in their holders seems to be a common fault, as well as the super-common low speed resistor burnout.
  34. RLFS supports rain closing, RLHS doesn't Otherwise, I've no idea what the difference is I'm afraid... Older cars got the RLFS and then at some point, VAG decided to swap to the RLHS, only they will know why.
  35. @J.R. I very much doubt airbags are primary designed to protect the foolish from their selves. Just this week on a 'Traffic Cops' repeat an Officer of the law was lecturing a driver on how dangerous an airbag going off can be to an unrestrained driver. ie, not wearing a seat belt. At the time it had be Googling it. I already knew it was rather dangerous. https://ohsonline.com/articles/2008/03/study-airbag-use-without-seatbelt-increases-injury-risk.aspx Just as well so many cars in the UK / EU are going about with airbags that might not even deploy as well out of date or never had the Service Campaign / Recall actions done, or bags replaced after accidents etc. *Not serious there, but then Insurers are not taking it seriously.*
  36. Have manual Karoq. 2 points - mine was recalled for software change to stop unwanted brake release (never experienced myself). The other point was my wife, when driving it, inadvertently switched off the auto brake function - the switch on my car is beside the actual brake lever/ switch. Took a while to realise what had happened. Had called Skoda support before noticing the system had been switched off.
  37. I also switched from the old 1.4 TSI to the new 1.5 TSI, both with manual. I agree that the 103kw 1.4 TSI was a really good all-round engine. I've noticed that with the 1.5TSI I often downshift from 6th to 4th when overtaking at highway speeds. Don't remember doing that with the 1.4. One thing I'd like to add after driving the 1.5 for over 25 th km is that I'm amazed at how much better the fuel economy is. Was thinking it'd be about the same, but it's significantly better than the 1.4. Real happy with that.

They normally seem to develop them for the Golf first, they did the MK7.5 1.5EVO so maybe it's on the cards. I just emailed them yesterday to confirm availability for mine, they respond pretty quick to enquiries.
  39. I’ve used pagid on my b5.5 Passat years ago and were fine. Does ECP not have any brembos? I know when I get my rear discs changed at some point i’ll be getting the brembos as they look decent especially with the painted hub area. Whilst all brakes should be good, I’d never scrimp on them, get the best and if you can’t quite afford it wait until you can
  40. NO!! , under braking (as im sure you know already) the mass loading shifts to the front, hence all cars have bigger disks at the front. If you increased rear braking strength i think all that would happen is the rears would lock up until ABS kicked in, a waste of time.
  41. It was but I wanted it to be darker! No new photos at the moment, dropping it off on Friday for the all the mods to be fitted then getting the remap on Friday 10th September! I'll take some soon. On the plus note, I've installed sound deadening in the back, a APR Boost Tap and completed the wiring needed for the meth kit!
  42. For what is worth, the belt replacement is recommended at 7 years in Australia. Even the tech who asked me at the last service, at 7 year mark, admitted I was not the first to defer and he had not encountered a belt failure yet. Still making up our mind whether to keep or replace our 1.4tsi estate which is still a joy to drive.
  43. Thank you @ahenners and @Cubbington for your replies. I’ve greatly benefited from the help and guidance of others in the forum since joining, so I am delighted if the post is of some help to others 😀
  44. They do a 4x4 beast too I was looking at to replace the VRS but the price made me wince. Lovely cars.
  45. Lovely car! How does it compare to the Octavia? Been looking at Arteons as a potential replacement for my VRS. They look incredible imo and there's something a bit left field and uncommon about them, don't see many about.
  46. Could be a wrap or a badly carried out rear window removal/replacement. I tend to think a good body shop is probably the best bet unless you have recourse to the original seller. FWIW the price of a new boot panel is a joke, so I’d suggest sooner than later to get it looked at is wise.
  47. An oft asked question! There are a few posts about it if you search. UK Skoda dealers will say yes based on the 5 years. Skoda (the manufacturer) say no, just to inspect at much higher mileage (~130K) and replace if needed. The belt is designed to be maintenance free. Air cleaner and pollen filter are very easy to do yourself if you are so inclined (and cost £17.50 together from Carparts4 less, vs £80 to fit from Skoda!). Air cleaner is supposedly needed only every 6 years/60K. I change mine more regularly. The pollen filter is harder because you have to open the glovebox, and there is a knack to that (but again, other threads here if you search).
  48. I have no issue with EVs, as such, it is just for me the range is not enough yet to generate enough confidence that I could use one for all my driving needs. Even a 10% decrease in an expected range of 300 miles would significantly impact on what I need to do. This is also taken from my own experience, I rented a Tesla when i was between cars and used it to go to the office (Basingstoke) at the start it had more than enough range (340 Miles IIRC) by the time i got to the office (230 Miles) , driving in a economical way the range was at under 40 miles. When we get to the point (and we will) that these vehicles have a 400-500 mile range, then I could be confident that one would fulfil my needs. When I have to drive to Basingstoke from North Lincolnshire one day, then go to Gateshead the next then home, neither I or the company I work for can justify the time taken to recharge during the journey. For me the technology is not quite there YET!

I’ve bought loads of stuff (never possibly too much...) from Superskoda over the last 10 years and have never had an issue with the orders or a problem with replies to emails. They’ve also got stuff in for me from the Skoda CZ eShop that they don’t normally stock. No doubt others have had issues but people tend to highlight bad rather than good service, that’s a fact of life!
