  1. Another teaser from my dealer. In this picture the iV model does not look too high. Read windows might need more tint than factory gave.
  2. Some scrote(s) nicked our daughter's Octy estate last night from the Brookfield area of Preston, Lancashire. Car is a 2007 Octavia mk2 Estate in dark grey/silver with roof bars and a towbar. Baby seat and odds and ends inside. FN07 WCF if anyone around notices it; please let me or the Plod know. Cheers, Mike PS Piccy added a few posts down.

yes nta16 exactly and definately eh you are spot on. well i think what she really means is to get a car thats newer than the last 3 or 4 i have had and make sure its lasting. she.s a carer and doesn.t drive so she may get asked to do shifts out of the area so i think this is important to us that we get a reliable car. yeah i.ll get this clutch done and run it until next m.o.t next march and see whats what after that. Yes we have had such muppet governments and electric cars should have come in before mobile phones did no excuses now for moaning about the climate change. its past governments pratting about and arsing about all over the world from say 50 years ago that we are all suffering and paying the price for now with our health and financial circumstances. Electric cars like you say ought to be better and less hassle and easier to use and work on especially with the price they are at the mo. I think car makers ought to concentrate far more on the actual mechanical aspects of the cars instead of all this needless gadget crap. such as when the car talks to you and is telling you this is needed and that is needed and this needs filling or that needs setting or washer bottle is empty etc etc. makes people lazy only takes 2 ticks lift up the damn bonnet and check the damn thing. and cars that tell you that tyres are low in pressure. i check mine every week i always have takes barely 5 minutes. so i don.t need a car to tell me about tyres its ludicrously laughable i have got mates who have all that stuff and i just laugh at them. 😂 Never have been a gadget man and whenever i have bought a car i always get a workshop manual. service it straightaway and put a new battery on it. though i haven.t put a new battery on this one thats the first time i have ever not changed the battery on a car.
  6. Pab567 on this forum said he could supply the parts for mine for well under that. I bought a 2016 and it could have smart link! I was quoted £151 to have it switched on. Unfortunately the car had swarf in the engine and was scrapped!!

Get that estimate properly costed because a 'VW replacement engine' from Skoda / VW which is a refurbished 'Base engine' is not £6,000 including VAT and even if they spend 15 hours labour @ £115 plus VAT you are not at £10,000. They do not even charge that to themselves when doing Warranty Work for VW Warranties or any Warranty provider.

  9. As I promised, one update. I took the car into the Fabia garage at the agreed time and it was fixed within a couple of minutes by the salesperson I had arranged to meet. He used the square button to the right of the button used for scrolling to change the menu from infotainment not working to the menu I had been on . He provided 3 steps for me in writing in case it ever happened again. He did say one thing that I found very interesting and that was that several customers every week contacted them to sort this very same problem out. Thanks.

£12500 is a LOT for an engine swap. I would guess a brand new engine at that price? Personally id be getting a second opinion on the engine failure. Then if it really does need replacing, id get a second hand engine and would only expect to pay up to £1000 to fit it.
  11. Thanks for taking the time to post back, and with pictures for the next person with sausage fingers (like me also) that needs to perform the task. Appreciated!
  12. Yes did it this morning. had to undo 2 nuts that held water bottle so i could release and get to the 3 bolts that held the fuel filter case and hold everything out the way with a bar rather than disconnect. Horrendous design and you will need T45 bits Thanks all for your input much appreciated
  13. I think threads/posts like this are useful to know what is out there. I honestly thought the smoke tune/map was just a joke, I'm so old and naïve. It's an extreme extension of other fashionable "modifications" often seen on clapped out cars to the detriment of the vehicle, its driver, passengers and for all around. But the number plate is cleverly hidden. 😁
  14. Are you considering a manual or DSG? Dependent on what age car you're looking at, the 2.0 may have the six speed DQ250, whereas the 1.6 may have the seven speed DQ200. The DQ250 is generally considered to be the more robust and reliable of the two units. Irrelevent if you're going for a manual of course. Gaz

I do all my own repair work, a model year 2006 Octavia was no challenge and neither is my model year 2015 Yeti, you just have to keep up with the changing technology but its incorrect to say that a DIY owner cannot work on his modern car, yours is a 2004 and a clutch change on that would be a breeze compared to the one I did on my Yeti with the integrated 4x4 transmission, the crossmember had to be removed and the transmission unit weighed 68kg but if I can do it without a ramp at 63 years of age anybody can. The problem for me is that at least initially Skodas were just too darn reliable that you never needed to work on them and never got to keep your hand in and keep up with the changing technology, my MK1 Octavia did me no favours, nothing went wrong with it in 13 years and 325000 miles of ownership, I did not even know that it had a Canbus network, I really had some catching up to with the MK2 Octavia.

🤣 Servicing, battery, too hard suspension. 👍 I would invite you gentlemen to the MOB* meetings held every third Thursday of the month but none of us can be arsed to turn up. * MOB - moaning old buggers
  21. Sorted. Kindly me in a month though. 👍
  22. Lucky enough to spot a Kingfisher at close quarters today. First time I've seen one up close, just a shame I only had my compact camera with me
  23. You should hold down Menu button to get into the hidden menu, in that screen you will not be able to load new firmware. Looking for Software Train

Hello, i have found lots of info on here that have helped me with my 2011 skoda octavia so tought to myself why not register aswell. Backround: Curious and handy. Proud owner of an Skoda octavia 2.0 TDI 140Hp automatic 2011
  25. this is what mine should look like on a new motor
  26. The bit on the black part on the motor has a male fitting and that was in the boot lid, it fall out in the boot when I started popping the clips to remove the trim,, the white connector part on the pipe is a female connection, can’t really get a pic of it now as I’ve put it all back together but it looks like it’s a complete new motor judging by the diagram you showed me 🥲🤣
  27. It’s the bit on the motor that’s snapped and the part you have a pic of is still intact (thankfully) the bit on the motor looks like it kinda clips in so wondered if it was interchangeable or I’d have to purchase a new motor with it on thanks for your help though mate really appreciate it

Fair to say I’ve been watching this topic a lot over the last 14 months. I’ve had a company car order in since May 2021 for a vrs iv estate. It’s optioned with pano roof, canton and dcc. There’s been a few setbacks along the way, which I’m sure would be familiar to many of you, but the vague updates from the lease company changed a week or two ago to “released from the factory” and added “delay in transit to uk”. I’m trying not to get my hopes up, but current estimate is for mid Aug. I expect it will probably be September now, as they commonly like to delay it when there is an imminent number plate change, as i imagine it increases the cars value a little at resale. i just hope it was built late enough to have the newer infotainment modules etc….

^^^ What he said! £12500 does seem awfully expensive. Perhaps seek out another opinion from a different garage (maybe an independent if they have a good reputation). Someone else may say it’s a repairable issue rather than a replacement engine. Other than that, a second hand engine may be your only option. Is it a main dealer that is quoting you the £12.5k or your VW specialist that did your timing belt? I would say you have absolutely no chance of any sort of goodwill gesture at all, (is a rocker failure a known fault with the tdi anyone?). The VW tdi isn’t the bullet proof model of reliability that you might think. I have owned 2 my self, a 2.0tdi PD and a CR. Also have had the use of 1.6tdi in a work vehicle. All three had significant reliability issues.
  30. Does any female follow ever your commands lol 😂
  31. No, just normal hex. The bottom ones came with the pads (ate). There's not a lot of room to get your torque wrench in either.
  32. I know, I was laughing at myself anyway!
  33. I mean it did 60k on this set, so have a while before that, in which case it will go to the garage!
  34. This all really boils down to fix/no fix. You could start pricing up bracket and all the mountings you need to replace, and hunt about for cheapest source, the only big cost is ACC calibration, again takes some money for this as it's not a simple process - all 4 wheels need alignment, before you even get to adjustment screws. Then your battery needs inspection, and probably beforehand as higher priority for certain. Choice two is to code out any and all references to ACC, which given how integrated it is into the car needs someone good with VCDS to carefully unpick it all, odds are something is still left behind.
  35. it's visible at the bottom of the windscreen.
  36. PS Have the brakes been serviced? Not binding a bit! http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/479681-squeaking-sound-after-a-while-driving
  37. ? What oil has the engine been given at the Oil & filter change? Lots of parts of which some are consumables to get a bit more MPG. But then spark plugs do need changing periodically. As do Air & Fuel filters. Not likely to be of any matter to the consumption but i take it the tiptronic gearbox has never had an oil change. The 1.6 petrol has never been that fuel efficient. Were the tyre changed at any point maybe giving a different indication of fuel use? What petrol is used is it 95 ron E5 or E10? In which country? http://parkers.co.uk/skoda/roomster/hatchback-2006/16-16v-se-5d-tiptronic/specs
  38. Given your fault occurs each time in the same place, but not elsewhere could be a simple red herring, or could also be some EM interference at home. Maybe it could also have worked fine when you took the car out, as the wires bounced a little and were not shorting for example. Perhaps take it to an empty carpark or some open flat ground. Get 2nd person, to sit in the car with the system activate, then get out yourself to hold up something in front of each sensor at different ranges. Start far away from each sensor, and work closer (take a measuring tape if needed too) to get a rough idea of when they change from amber to red on screen. The person inside the car should be able to communicate when the sensors activate. These are some nice free checks you should be able to do. Fingers crossed.
  39. I suspect you're right. There are a lot of people who set something just as they like it, then can't bear the idea of it being adjusted. Mirrors, seat position, steering wheel. I switch driving mode a lot, usually between drive and economy, but do use sport mode now and then. I can imagine a lot of people never take their DSG mode out of D, never mind fiddle with other settings. I drove my friend's car a couple of times when on holiday. (She had a girly moment when she encountered a bus coming the other way down a narrow lane and declared herself totally incompetent and insisted I sort out the problem because she couldn't possibly reverse her car down a narrow road.) Anyway, I set up the mirrors to reverse, then she decided that I should drive the remainder of the journey in case we met any other large vehicles on our way back. Part of that adjustment was setting the rake and reach of the steering wheel. Days later, after we got home, I received an annoyed phone call from her complaining about the steering wheel adjustment, that she didn't know how to set it back to how she liked it. I explained how to do it, but she wasn't interested in doing it just then. After a couple of weeks, I asked if she'd reset the steering wheel position to how she likes it, and she told me she's got used to it now and didn't want it adjusting. People like her are why we don't get power and toque curves in car brochures any more.
  40. Yeah me too. Was one of the things I looked for but unfortunately most of the standard Passat GTEs didn't get it. Then it came as standard on the superb iv but I couldn't afford new car prices. I also imagine most who get adjustable suspension set it to a known good value and forget about it. Unless they then track it but that is a different customer base.
  41. 2.0l, if only for extra "get out of trouble" muscle.
  42. The trim levels became a bit of a cluster **** at one point. Below is a rough table of how it goes. I have used SE to mark out the models that were offered as additional to the regulars. Hopefully that makes sense..? PFL 220 PFL 230 SE FL 230 FL 245 SE FL 245 FL 245 Challenge Ok, now we’re - not much - clearer on that. The car in here is a FL 245. That’s why it has the 18”s and the silver exhaust tips (Googled the reg). All clear? Nope? Excellent 😂
  43. Newly arrived VRS iV in graphite grey.
  44. Those USB 'C' are awful no apparent mechanical support to them they rock about and even just fall out. I run my usb 3 stick on a cable with a right angle 'C' plug to straight usb 3 female adapter and don't disturb the set up unless I really have to.
  45. I got fed up of popping the front bumper corners back in as the mounts had broke, so fitted some new ones, also brakes are nicely bedded in. She certainly stops well, I ended up getting a new caliper and carrier for the n/s as it was slightly bent from the original crash damaged donor, so n/s is brand new hub/knuckle, caliper/carrier. Don’t ask me how much lol
