  1. Lovely afternoon, so I went out for a 20 mile bike ride. Went past the Long Man of Wilmington, who was in the shade, but could still be seen easily: Gaz
  2. ^^^ That is a p1ss take with the Minimum 20 miles. As in Edinburgh.
  3. That's quite amazing, that such a basic thing as calibrating matrix headlights (yes, these days it's basic "repair") can be such a pain. It is required in many cases, i.e. headlight removed for any reason or windscreen replaced due to chip/crack. Every dealership should be obliged to have this equipment. You can try some company that specializes in car windows. They might have the tools. In Poland for example i can see multiple companies claiming to provide such service (i.e. probably biggest one, NordGlass). That's very, very wrong way of thinking. Should it be calibrated at the factory? Of course, but it's not always done correctly. This of course should be fixed under warranty. But if for any reason it's not, you should either pay for calibration or stop using the system, as it might be dangerous for other drivers (and actually you too). "Little dance" is not calibration, this system does not calibrate itself. It requires calibration with special tools, to allign camera and LED segments, and it needs to be done in case of some repairs/actions (see examples above).
  4. Yup got it. Very happy. Some small but useful improvements such as rear door Kessy unlocking, rear camera washing. Not to mention the 7 speed box and the virtual cockpit. The whole car just seems to drive much nicer.
  5. Not to the best of my knowledge. Mine is a late and well specced SE L Drive with heated windscreen, heated leather seats and the rare electric driver's seat and I suspect that if it had been an option, the original owner would have specced it. I'm reliably informed that all these late model Yetis were built to customer orders. It would be nice though. We also have a Karoq with the heated wheel which came as a pack with DSG gear change paddles.

There are signs left in the logs if you remove one. Also you have the issue of breakdowns. Will you really be removing it while you wait for mr AA? What about a warranty question after an accident? Sorry for sounding a bit negative but for me the only reason for a box over a map is the ease of returning it to stock for resale.
  7. Regarding the lubrication point, you can get spray contact lube (like Ambersil AGL1) which could perhaps be shot in via the same hole - alternatively some contact cleaners are "contact cleaner and lubricant" so they are designed for exactly this - I guess the sovent cleans the crap off then evaporates leaving the grease behind. Typically used for complex switches that can't be disassembled. If I'd had any I would have used that, but I just had the contact cleaner. A good reason not to take the wheel off is that IIRC the bolt only has a few lives before you're supposed to replace it. I had to take mine off to replace the clock spring previously so one life is already used.
  8. Very wise. Unfortunately if you're one that Sod's Law likes to kick in the tender parts about cars like me then the first owner, or certain manufacturers, create or put in latent faults for the subsequent owner to discover and have the joy of the experience and expenditure. 😃 With cars and the motor trade I've had the opposite of a Midas touch, no matter how much I pay or look after them they very rarely look after me, with the exception of Japanese manufacturers but I'm sure that'd change if I bought a new (or new-ish) one now. 😄

Yes it has changed on newer cars. Definitely coasting. D7, D6 or whatever changes to D and rpm drops to idle.
  10. Oh maybe. I've never bought a new car myself as I prefer to let others take the first big hit of depreciation and fault finding.
  11. I did not have a cover for the Octavia from nearly new for around 8-9 months till it went in for its first service, whilst making the appointment on the phone they said it would be replaced whilst it was in, no issues with it since but it’s very bland no branding at all on it
  12. Small yet bumig update today. Car just gone crazy while driving, everything went off, felt lost of power too. Got too scary to drive so only got to nearest safe place to stop car and awaiting RAC at the minute. Nothing in car works apart from headlights. No indicators, no hazard lights, no AC, radio, speedo off. Attaching video I've uploaded and please notice that car engine is running when this video is being recorded
  13. I'm in your neighbour to the south (Germany) and they change the break fluid every two years here for me which is what I believe is the recommended timescale.
  14. Activating operation of the sunshade  Read and observe and on page 70 first. If the operation of sunshade is deactivated (e.g. after disconnecting and connecting the battery), then the operation will have to be activated. › Turn on the ignition and set the switch to position  » Fig. 65 on page 71. › Press the button  and hold down. The sunshade opens and closes again after around 10 seconds. › Release the button. The above is from the manual, suggest you look it up as my copy and paste is missing the pictures. It is some time since I did this. I think I had to do it a couple of times before it sorted itself. Basically you are cycling the opening and closing while keeping the button pressed.
  15. Those look like Mark 1 Octavia VRS wheels. 17" is too big for a car driven on B roads, the tyrewall is too shallow, I use 15" wheels for this very reason.
  16. I fitted this and the steering wheel controls still work fine. Added - Rear parking sensors beep and distance bars appear on the display, although they are not as big as before https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/517999-bluetooth-head-unit-options/?do=findComment&comment=5806182
  17. @Schtum as per @Rooted's comment, I dont think a DQ400 exists. The non-electrified variant is the DQ250.
  18. No. If the motor runs on demister then the resistor pack is faulty.
  19. So got it done, steps to complete were: Open bonnet Try to release hatch in wheel arch with Skoda tool, Skoda tool wouldn't budge it and even started to stretch out like a keyring being straightened. Tried to release hatch with a jury rigged tool made from a metal bar in my shed, kept slipping. Pushed a rubber handled socket wrench onto the hatch from the bonnet side and gave it a good shove, popped the hatch off no bother. Removed rubber cover from light. Tried to twist light from the wheel arch side and felt like an amateur gynecologist, probing around with two fingers. Couldn't get the grip on the light I needed. Loosened the retaining bolt on the battery clamp and slid the battery over about 5mm but still didn't have room to get my hand in that side so put it back where it was. Returned to shed with a couple of torches and positioned them in the engine bay and under wheel arch so that I could see the target and very carefully used a pair of long nosed pliers to turn it anticlockwise and pull the bulb housing out. Put on a pair of nitrile glove to put the new bulb in. Spend 20 minutes trying to sit the bulb housing back into it's socket, retire for a cuppa then return to push it in first time with no issues. Use the pliers to carefully turn the housing clockwise until it clicked. Put the rubber cover for the light back on. Started the engine and turned lights on, M-Dot, warning lights and car info no longer reporting the fault. Got out of car and checked lights properly aligned so as not to blind oncoming traffic, all good. Minor panic when returning to car to see warning light on, but heart rate returned to normal when the car info just said it was because I had the bonnet open and had taken the key with me when I checked the lights. Put the hatch cover back into it's hole and spent a few minutes forcing all the edges back into place. Closed bonnet. Hope never to have to do this job again and didn't even contemplate changing the drivers side, sticking the second bulb in the glove compartment for whenever it does decide to give up the ghost.
  20. @Rooted do you know what the ** is on the 400? I'm about 16k off my next service and thinking I should get the filter done. First was done at VW so under no illusion they did the filter.
  21. This might help: Skoda Fabia blower motor replacement / Resistor peplacement repair - YouTube
  22. Thank you, I had done a search, bot for washer bottle, not screen wash…
  23. Over 50% of London black cab fleet is now ZEC (zero emission capable). https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-67639496 The LEVC black cabs are great to ride in and very well designed. Its hybrid powertrain is excellent because it is basically an 80 miles EV with an range extender ICE, just the way PHEV's should be.
  24. Wheel off, and through the hatch in the arch is best way.
  25. Cheers for the help guys. I’ll keep my eyes out on what’s available.
  26. я не айтишник.. сорри
  27. Yes, but its not a splitter, its an adapter - which is why it doesn't allow both the SD card slot and the USB socket to be used together for data.
  28. Yeah Gaz, looks exactly the same. That blue always was the best colour in my humble opinion!! Lol. I just can't justify spending money I don't really have on trying to fix something that I can't guarantee can even be fixed. My mechanic has told me he thinks the best thing I can do now is cut my losses and try and get as much back out of the car as I can before I weigh it in. It's just having the resources available to break it myself, which is something I don't really have, so that's why I popped it on here incase any other mk1 owners need anything off this one or would even want the whole car as a donor car. Be nice if parts of her could live on!
  29. I did some research on this not so long back and keeping an eye on the market here, in Germany, and in Sweden, all says the same: there ain't many manuals, if at all. No longer orderable here, >95% of the used stock is DSG. Same elsewhere. .Bret
  30. Just the lower one. I would be lying if I said it didn’t increase the NVH, but it really was minimal and it stopped the engine from knocking under hard acceleration.
  31. If they have offered you £100 to have one fitted, that's a huge indication that they know they are going make that much back again quickly and much more.
  32. Recent purchase and a great piece of kit for getting all the crud and salt off the underside of the vehicle during the winter months. Very simple and quick to use. This one is well made and seems a decent enough quality to hopefully last for years.
  33. I never got my Smart Meter fitted yet and now i have a £100 offer to get one. Eventually there will be one fitted, just not this winter. Maybe it will be one that works. http://bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-67591320 Rewarding those that are high users while those that are possibly the lowest users of electricity is a pure pith take, and rewarding anyone in the London area really is taking the absolute pith take. Double the tariff at peak rate possible shortage time.
  34. The Stop/Start system doesn't know whether you're stopped at lights, in a traffic jam, or parking at the end of your run - it isn't 'engineered' to keep running to enable the engine to cool, it only engages its brain to restart for powering up a/c to maintain set cabin temp. Yes, the manufacturers are only interested in fuel efficiency, not in the health of your turbo, oil consumption or battery. Mate, I can only urge that once you've completed your 10hr run in 30-40c ambient, stick her in Park, foot off the brake and let her idle for 30secs, it's not long out your life, but your turbo will thank you long term. Following my younger days in Holden, Falcon & Valiant V8 iron block dinosaurs, I've only had turbo engines for the last 30 years, everything from 4litre V6's to the baby 1.4 4cyl today. Never had a turbo fail, or need cleaning/servicing, I know of many who have with painful bills as a result.
  35. Sorry, but I'm not seeing any logic here, surely it's more a case of more power consumed than the grid can cope with so at peak times they are asking people to delay plugging the EV in, make that cup of tea later or earlier, do the weekly washing later in the evening or overnight to save them having to fire up more gas fired generators to cover the excess loading. This saves them considerable gas costs and thus uses more power at a time when the excess energy produced would normally just be wasted? Sometimes it really is the simple things that are true.
  36. I've not done a MK2 fabia, but the 6L Ibiza was pretty bad for all the same reasons. I ended up using a long pair of bent-tip pliers and doing the whole job with them. It was like something off the crystal maze, but it was possible.
  37. As far as I remember, 200 TDI which was an evolution of 190 TDI which we have in our Karoq has a bigger turbo and different injectors. A remap will take the 150 TDI which I have in my Yeti to c. 185. I suspect that the 200 TDI Superb is fitted with the same DQ500 DSG gearbox as our Karoq. It's a 7 speed wet clutch gearbox, capable of handling up to 600 Nm of torque. The only issues I've seen reported with this are Mechatronic unit failures.
  38. The thing is that there is not enough renewables generated anyplace near the UK for all these homes and Industries that supposedly are using it. There could be, but as it is taking electricity from overseas is how the nonsense works while paying out to people in the UK who might not even have their money in the UK economy and off in Tax Havens and oversea territories. So we might be able to guess just which Political Party they might support, or actually they will hedge their bets and back all of them.
  39. In 2022, 40% of electricity came from renewables. So 40% supplying 65% of the domestic market? Does that mean no business or industry can claim to be using renewable energy? Households have consistently ranked as the largest electricity final users in the country. In 2022, households in the UK consumed 96 terawatt-hours of electricity, or roughly 35 percent of the total consumption.11 Oct 2023 So there is a bit left at the moment then
  40. It could just be the connector to the rear of the head unit. Does it work okay with CDs?
  41. ... the electrical auxiliary pump which can run even when the engine is turned off.
  42. A real privilege to witness the Starling Murmuration at Idle Valley nature reserve earlier 🙏🏻 YouCut_20231202_222343686~2.mp4 YouCut_20231202_222839477~2.mp4
  43. I second that @edwards, similar cost for me recently to get the water pump changed following a similar leak, although timing belt changed too whilst they were there.
  44. The problem is the diesels need so much complicated emissions equipment nowadays, they are often £2500-3500 extra to buy. Then have problem of diesel fuel being close in spec to heating oil, so often costs 10-15p litre (about 7-11%) more in winter. Although diesel gives better mileage, got to consume huge amount of diesel to offset these costs. Thousands of litres of fuel
  45. Stumbled on this today - 7th April 2023. Downloaded, transferred to SD Card etc. Worked a treat. Thanks
