  1. Next tips for you. If they're anything like the last ones I did, when you come to reassemble it, you'll think "how the 'heck' do I get those two screws back in there and started without cross-threading them.?" (tool access being blind and indirect/angled on mine). The answer I found was to leave the old sump sealant in two rings round where those two screws came through, cleaning off all the rest to apply fresh stuff. The old sealant then holds the screws in position, inserted enough to stay put, ready to carefully insert the tool into and delicately start to engage once the sump is in place. Other good one came from Haynes manual. Cut two long screws off headless, or a length of M6 studding maybe 20mm long. then hacksaw a screwdriver slot in one end of each (for removal). Use these as location pins in two opposite corners of the block to make it easy to put the sump in perfect alignment on the first attempt, with sealant already applied. Fit a few of the other screws and then replace these two with real screws.
  2. @Graham Butcher I know the place like the back of my hand. I lived and worked in Central Dundee and my pals were flat owners. I was based in the Wellgate Centre for 24 years. I worked for Dundee City Council. Same in Aberdeen & Edinburgh, family or friends live there or have properties. The Low Emission Zones are a great idea IMO. Maybe those not from Dundee, Aberdeen or Edinburgh should go bother about their local. Breath your own clean air, or not clean air. PS Dock area is at Sea Level. Piers just above the height of ships water line. In Dundee behind the water front is lower land that floods and cellars that flood. Cellars well back towards the Wellgate and start of the Hilltown flood. There are tunnels at sea level going under the waterfront area.
  3. "On 31 March 2003, almost all of the remaining Invacars owned by the government were recalled and scrapped because of safety concerns" Hubnuts example must have missed the recall ;o)
  4. Just crossed over 34k miles, so brimmed the tank with V-Power. Got 69 litres in it, and the car’s now reporting a range of 630 miles. Think that’s the most range I’ve ever seen on a car of mine! It’s a very comfy mile muncher. At one point yesterday it was doing a steady 67.5 mpg - not just a flash, it was doing it over three miles or so on very nice flat roads around RAF’s Lakenheath and Mildenhall. G
  5. The final part of this article sums up the artificiality of it all when it comes to targets regarding Zero Emission vehicles The IEA still projects a sales rise in 2024, which would keep us more or less on track for net zero. Optimists hope more people will buy EVs when cut-price second-hand vehicles come onto the market in Europe and America. But that clear road is not guaranteed. It may be that EV prices in the West do prove sticky, while China keeps churning out super-cheap vehicles. If that happens, expect that tension between the desire of Western governments to decarbonise transport and their desire to protect domestic manufacturing champions to grow even more acute. At some stage they might be forced to choose. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-69022771
  6. I read your posts. Nowhere do you say it is a 7 speed.
  7. You should never release the footbrake in D when the manual handbrake is on and engine is running.
  8. we not only use gas but we have a log burner. feel free to ostracize me ;o)
  9. @Graham Butcher War Disabled. 'Invacar'. Later for Civilian disabled, @Winston_Woof I had 2 of them that were used as the base for trikes, They were just being finally retired when i lost a leg. My friend with a bike garage had maintained them and got them back. This was when Motability started and it was mostly Mini,s and the War Disabled Invalid carriages were no longer needed. Just a few weeks ago on facebook, Macduff & Banff when you were a kid. Someone put up a picture of one outside my dads work and a car with L plates on. I remembered my mum always said her driving instructor had one leg. I showed her the picture and it was his Invalid Carriage and her car with the L plate. He had his 3 wheeler posted in another picture and it was Metallic Blue. Maybe my dad painted it for him.
  10. hands up everyone who remembers these being a common sight
  11. Unfortunatley, Caffyns have been in touch to say they don't have the spare wheel kit in stock and its therefore back order from CZ, so order cancelled. After a quick look on ebay, I found a used matching 18 inch Vega Alloy wheel complete with part worn tyre (7mm tread) for £199, so I've ordered that. I know it may not fit in the wheel well, but my current Karoq doesn't even have a wheel well and I just have a full size spare upside down in the boot with a bowl full of useful tools and stuff inside it and a cover over it. I'm single with no kids or family so never need to put loads of stuff in the boot, it leaves more than enough space, so I'll just do the same with this if it doesn't fit in the wheel well If it goes in the wheel well and just raises the boot floor a bit, even better, I can make some supports for the edges of the floor to keep it stable on top of the wheel. I already have the jack and wheel brace I bought for the Karoq, I presume they will be fine? (Same size wheel bolts for the brace?). At least this way, if I do get a puncture, once changed I can carry on with the journey at normal speed. Cheers.
  12. I believe that is because they are deemed to be an 'invalid carriage', have a maximum top speed of only 8mph and you don't need a licence for one... even though they should be 'registered' with the DVLA but I could be wrong! Using mobility scooters and powered wheelchairs: Vehicle tax, registration and insurance - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
  13. Hmmm... Currently totally illegal to use anywhere in public which is unlikely to change. You and your colleagues seem to like breaking the law...
  14. Happy to register mine. Big enough to put a Reg plate etc on it. Insurance, already got motorcycle pass, indicator, lights etc......
  15. Because there is only one thing you like better than blocking people, - telling them and the world you have blocked them. Maybe that isn't quite true, I suspect you enjoy unblocking people so you can publicly block them once again, maybe you are just very forgiving 😀
  16. Tough choice. I prefer the VRS engine, but the Sportline is the FL model and so has a lot of improvements over the older MK3. That digital dash is nice. (Not sure about the black headlining, though.) I found the 150PS 2.0TDI a bit gutless to drive, but you can perk it up with a remap. Of the two cars on offer, I think the Sportline is better value for money.
  17. I presume that the home scooter refers to an e scooter, yes? If yes then you must be aware, that these are illegal to use on public roads or indeed in a public space. I find it very interesting that you state that you have given up on bus rides due to sitting in the same congestion as car, and yet in earlier post you were advocating that people should PT as sustainable solutions, but again, you are not taking your own advice, so clearly you seem to think that you are special and everyone else has to give up their cars, use sustainable PT so that you drive from A to B with clear road as if you were the King, is that it?? If actually took the effort to read posts, or did a bit of research you would have discovered why it is that buses cause congestion, it is to do with them being operated by driver only (OMO) largely assisted by an incompetent government allowing the introduction of these buses to remove the old half cab type which used to have a conductor on board to take fares while the bus was kept moving to speed up the traffic flow. The rules were changed in 1966 so the nationalised buses could be prepared for privatising which finally happened in 1988. So the congestion was actually brought about by HM Government. Once privatised, profit became the essential item, prices rose rapidly, services cut, rural areas were often stripped of any bus service at all so the rise of the private car began. Once upon a time, it was very common on Chelmsford Town services (my route was a 10 minute service) using buses like this Bristol FLF seating 70 with 12 standing at peak times to see 2, 3 and sometimes 4 of one after the other, full up with the first bus being the scheduled service and the other as duplicates or reliefs, such was the demand for PT. We have had special "Works Services" that would take workers to their factories around the town in the morning and in the evening take them home again. Those services also stopped and workers started buying cars and driving to work each day. So you want to blame someone for the massive congestion and the so perceived bad air quality (even though data shows it is not), then blame the governments over the years for sowing the seeds of the car culture for their idiotic culling of road and rail PT and selling them off to the highest bidders. Then in 1966 these began to be phased out and replaced with these Bristol VR, again similar capacity and one man operated. These days, the fares are so expensive and the car has become transport of choice, chiefly brought about the selling of the state owned buses and also the railways, these days we get just 1 of these single deck shuttle buses every 15 to 20 minutes which now largely run about almost empty. And yes, we do have park and ride and these are the buses that operate that, run by Essex County Council. Yes, I was having a go at you, it should be no surprise to anybody when you always change the narrative, even though myself and others have perfectly good and valid points, but you always try to belittle those who dare to think differently to you. My stance is neither pro buses or pro cars and I have a free bus pass, but as I pointed out earlier about standing out in the rain waiting for a bus to take me shopping, which when it came along would still leave me needing to catch a further bus or 2 at least to reach the food shops because the they are no longer in the city centre, they are now on retail parks dotted around the edge of the city and there is no suitable direct service, and not a single park has a dedicated bus service, which means that is still some walking to be done to reach the shops. This can take over an hour each way but I can reach the shops in about 10mins by car. Then there is the small matter of trying to carry upto 6 bags of shopping back to the bus stop and then going though all those changes and waiting around for the connections in order to get back home again. You try doing all that in all kinds of weather. One of these bags will have 30 pints of milk for instance, bloody heavy stuff seeing as the milkman delivering is now also a thing of the past. So shopping could easily take up a day as it would be impossible to carry those bags single handed, so it would take 3 maybe 4 trips to do a weeks shopping, would you in all honesty be prepared to that when you reach 75 years of age? Then my son has to be taken to and from his place of work, each day, 13 miles each way, twice a day (3 buses and 90mins to 2 hours each way and costly if I don't take him), my wife to be taken and collected from the Crown Courts when she is on duty. My 92 year old Mother in Law also needs help and care 3 or 4 times a week on the other side of the city, and she needs picking and taking to keep doctors and hospital appointments and then taking home again, so a car is a real necessity for me and so it is for many other people. So even though I have free travel on the buses in my city, they are useless for me. So hopefully you could be a little bit more understanding of other peoples positions and requirements, you really are in a very different place fiscally and location wise for decent PT services, which you shun because it is not suitable for you, just as for many others it is not suitable. This will also explain why I'm dubious, of the many of the governments plans as I have seen grand schemes before that were going to greatly enhance everyones lives etc and they all have just turned into a massive sh1tshow.

Finally got round to taking some pictures
  19. That's what hill hold is for, the ABS Unit will hold the vehicle while your foot goes from brake to accelerator, preventing roll back
  20. Thank you for takling the time to svare your perspectives and extensive knowledge. it’s a lease, so I guess I’m glad in that regard. Love the car, hope it does not happen again don’t fell like spending money on ODB gear
  21. Is it not for the tailgate opening by means of the foot swipe !
  22. I recently traded in a 2021 Monta Carlo with a full size spare wheel for a brand new 73 plate Monte Carlo with a pathetic tyre inflation kit. You should have seen the look on the salesman’s face when upon collecting my 73 plate I proceeded to swap the inflation kit for the spare wheel. He wasn’t impressed, and I didn’t care. Guys, next time you go and order a new car make sure that you insist on a full spare wheel instead of an inflation kit. You’ll be surprised how willing they will be to accommodate you if the deal hinges on it, that’s what I’ll be doing next time. OP, call the dealer and tell him/her that the deal depends on them providing you with a full spare wheel.
  23. Shouldn't really be that way though concidering it's a modern vehicle boasting technology for the modern era in my opinion. Should have some safeguard for those embarassing moments me thinks......🙄
  24. Replaced my Škoda Superb 4x4 L&K air and cabin filter today. A nice 20 minutes of tinkering. Mileage: 126814 km • Air filter: OEM code: 5Q0129620C - MANN-FILTER C 30 004 / cold climate filter - €12.61 • Cabin filter: OEM code: 5Q0819669 - MANN-FILTER FP 26 009 - €15.69
  25. Yes, I said if interested google it. As to the roads entering the cities and in the cities now. The lowering of emissions has not just started. There are still dirty buses around and other vehicles. There are very few crap high emissions cars about because really the areas are not poor poor places. The worst are gone. The was Ann Gloag and Brian Soutar's berry busses that started them off with 'Stagecoach'.
  26. yep, I think you are spot on. A bit like Ken2 I have tried to adjust my driving to move down through the gears anf keep the revs up. But slipped a couple of times today, slowing down in 4th I think at a roundabout, dipped the clutch to change to 2nd, cut out and had to pop into neutral and press button to restart. I don’t think so much it is the slowing down in a high gear that causes it to cut out, but when you dip the clutch to change gear in those circumstances. If you have a look at the rev counter when you dip the clutch it drops significantly. Ie. Slowing down in 4th, revs down below 1000RPM, dip the clutch to change into 1st or 2nd, revs drop below 800 and it cuts out. In terms of demonstrating the issue to the dealers though it is just a shame it only does this intermittently. Ie today after it cut out I tried to replicate the same manoeuvre and gearing but didn’t get the same outcome (didn’t cut out).
  27. Self driving cars, motorcycles and scooters all here or coming soon. Sorts out the scooters being in the wrong place, left untidily etc.........
  28. At least it puts your mind at rest and if you don't need that space you have probably benefitted in all honesty.
  29. So this is Amundsen. You mentioned that you have CANTON sound system. In such setup each speaker is driven independently by a pair of wires, directly from the amplifier (not from teh glove box unit). I believe there are two separate issues: 1. Bluetooth disconnection/reconnection. 2. Tweeters being overloaded One of the reasons could be some SW problem - I will send latest SW (048) on PM.
  30. @Ootohere here is further information about them, I must admit I never knew that some of them were made right here in my county, and not too far away from me either. I do remember seeing a few on the back of lorries but assumed they were just passing through the county on their way to being delivered. Invacar - Wikipedia
  31. You can certainly do that. This video explains how it works: I haven't tested it myself, but I'll surely give it a go once I get my car back from the garage.
  32. I read this as a humble brag about your wonderful climate!
  33. It was originally developed for motorsport, but they have road variants as well, with maps for stock engines. It also uses stock components where it can, the only custom part is the ECU. The main advantage compared to distributor based system is that it takes its ignition timing from the crankshaft, which is more precise.
  34. I know nothing about the Racechip, and you haven't provided a link to the product, so I'm floundering about in the dark here. That said, I suspect you believe the Racechip is a mistake, but you're looking about for some reassurance that the Racechip is actually okay, and there's no need to spend the extra money on a remap. My advice is as follows:- If you're short of money, don't modify your car. If you're not short of money, modify it properly.
  35. They’re probably going to be in a hurry so surely anything that makes a low-life give even a few minutes pause makes them more likely to look elsewhere? steve
  36. I've bought and fitted a few secondhand genuine from ebay without any problems. Even just to avoid changing a CV boot!
  37. On a quick search (Google Chrome doesn't recognise "EFB+") this is about it and I got this by an on-site search of Tayna Batteries. - "STRONGPRO EFB+ Exide’s Strong battery is now “EFB+”. Exide’s StrongPRO battery range is now stronger than ever. A new carbon-based formula of negative active mass enhances the rechargeability and charge acceptance of StrongPRO EFB+ battery. Additionally, the HVR® (highvibration-resistant) technology enables StrongPRO EFB+ to pass the extreme vibration tests under the new European V4 standard (EN 50342-1:2015). A more robust and more lasting battery means reduced total service cost for fleet owners and truck drivers, allowing less replacements over vehicle’s service life and minimized risk of unexpected and premature battery failure." - https://cdn.tayna.com/datasheets/Exide Commercial Batteries 2023 Brochure (1).pdf

Thank you all for the help. got it now.
  39. it came out!! solution, loads of penetrative spray. hex-star piece hammered into the screw enough to get a good grip then slowly but firmly unscrewed with a ratchet 👌 thank u for the suggestions, the heat thing is interesting will defo try that next time. and the tighten a bit to break the corrosion up. didn't think of that at all. also my impact driver unfortunately wouldn't fit and i didn't have the right attachments to get it in otherwise yh its a fantastic tool for this exact job XD thx a lot again I'm really a bit surprised i got so much advice and so quickly. really appreciate you all! and watch out for them high curbs 👍
  40. On the bright side they can't steal the air from your tyres if they can't get the tyre caps off 😉
  41. I've found an impact screwdriver is an invaluable tool 👍 Hilka Impact Driver

Thanks! I watched a YouTube video here What do you think the toughest part of the job is please? Doing both sides too 😬😬😬
  44. So a long while since I've updated. This thing has broke my heart, everything that could have broke did. Could not get the clutch to bleed at all, kept trying for ages until I spotted Slave gone. So of course that meant box off, the one thing I didn't want to do. Got it out myself, barely. Brand new Sachs slave gone in, clutch looks fresh, so I didn't touch it. Painted some stuff when it was off. LH inner cv boot was toast, so got a new boot, didn't end well, cv was pretty cooked so I had to get a new driveshaft. Getting the box back in was horrible, made an engine brace, worked well enough but still far too difficult. Dropped the subframe to get it in. May change out the subframe for a FL mk2 one, despise trying to line up the consoles and steering rack.
  45. COULD A MOD PLEASE PIN THIS.. Please read this very carefully. If you have LOW numbered firmware/software, then you MUST visit a dealer before you attempt to upgrade to 1941 or 1969. If you attempt to do so then you may cause major damage & have to buy a new infotainment system which is hideously expensive. So please bear this in mind.
  46. You now have the option of : https://www.skoda-parts.com/online-store.html No import taxes or duties.
  47. Its been nearly 3 months and no more error codes or rough cold start idles now. I really with this was higher on the google search results because I had to go to my account to find this webpage. P2014 FIX
  48. Yes. Try this instead. Intake Manifold Position Sensor - Audi 8V/8S/B8.5/B9 & Volkswagen Golf MK7 GTI/R - EA888.3 PART NUMBER: 06K907386D Had the exact same problem in my 2014 Octavia 3 with 84xxx kms I snapped off the old sensor (and it is very easy to get to if you take off the oil filter) and put the new one in. Cost me ~ $140 AUD https://www.vagparts.com.au/products/audi-volkswagen-intake-manifold-position-sensor-genuine-volkswagen-audi-06k907386d?variant=39553411514443 https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-volkswagen-audi-parts/intake-manifold-flap-position-sensor/06k907386d/ MK7 Golf Gti's have the same problem however the fix isn't as widely documented since they received intake manifold warranties for up to 10 years or 120k miles. Diagram in here shows where to replace the sensor. https://www.golfmk7.com/forums/index.php?threads/p2014-code-intake-manifold-runner-position-sensor-switch-circuit-bank-1a.330245/page-2 AUDI: https://www.audiownersclub.com/forums/topic/14901-s3-2014-error-code-p2014/ Couldn't find it but There was a reddit post I believe talking about this issues where the only comment told OP to buy the sensor and take off the old sensor (he said he snapped it off because it was hard to get out, I did this too.) Super Easy Job, the commenter did it without taking the oil filter housing off and he must have spent ages and doing it but yeah. Take oil filter out, snap the old sensor off, put in the new one, and Bob's you're uncle. The new sensor is a little longer than the old one so it does seem to stick out a bit. Also remember to lightly lube the o-ring on the sensor, I just used engine oil. Hope this helped!!!
  49. Quick update, haven’t had a chance to test it properly yet as just back from the dealers - apparently there was a wire trapped/snagged somewhere, they found a stored fault code. Something to do with recirculation flap. They have repaired it ? Details were a little vague and the dealers were in full COVID mode so didn’t want to pester them too much for info. Will test it and report back .
  50. Hiya. Watched the video - wow, that is a strange one, as you say, it's like a door slamming! For what it's worth, regardless of everyone discussing resets and the climate control doing things because of this and that - my Mk.3 Octy VRS (which I have owned for 6 years) has never done anything like that. Once I select LO and max fan with the aircon on, it blows freezing air into my face for hours on end, and never clunks or changes the flow. So for me, that's a fault which needs rectifying. I hope it's not a dash out job... Good luck and let us know how you get on.
