  1. Lets quickly address the elephant in the room. That is not a Capri and never will be. Not surprised though as Ford has already sullied the Mustang name.
  2. What hasn't broken yet in your car? My mechatronics unit is still original at 309k miles. Anyone have a unit that lasted longer? The flywheel springs snapped at 280k and also took out the shaft. Both flywheel and clutch pack were replaced. I've just been told I need a gearbox bush mount for engine stabilisation. That's lasted from the factory 309k miles . 4 hour labour to get subframe off and everything. The turbo has never had issues. Examined at 270k Neither the engine (CFGB diesel) Compression test 40k miles ago at 270k miles showed 26 psi across all cylinders. DPF is still from factory. Had 1 "clean" service from injector gun. But it takes more effort to complete a regen cycle now and much more smoke + smell. Having to use a Carista obd to manually trigger regen at time of my choosing and using vag pdf app to monitor all the data plus only regen on the motorway as it can no longer complete a cycle in the town without the cabin being choked with fumes EGR died at approx 190k, no emissions fix Throttle valve at 150k, had egr nozzle rotated per skoda recall instructions Door looms lasted 250k before both front doors started breaking, requiring intermittent fixing since. Surprisingly my 2 rear shock absorbers from factory are still fine at 309. Front shocks and springs died at 298 and 300 Back Springs / all 4 arms (every 150k it seems to last, so will be on 3rd set of arms soon) / bushes / droplinks / bearings etc obviously dies as you drive. Current ABS module has lasted 250k miles and still working Starter motor still from factory. Alternator from factory died at 200k All door locks / boot hinges still factory All power steering still factory My columbus still works. Just always had annoying problem where if my phone is connected to Bluetooth and I make a call when the columbus is either off or I'm not playing music through Bluetooth, no sound at all unless engine is fully shut for 5+ mins to reset connection. So I always make sure I play music on Bluetooth until u hear sound before I make a phone call Aircon compressor died at about 150k or 7 years of age of car. Serviced (minor interim minor major) never oil light before service every 9400 miles or less at dealership initially then at VW specialist garage. DSG oil service every 37.6k miles /every 4th service or less. Car has about 3 MOT equivalent checks and 4 services a year. So it's checked about as comprehensively as you can get.
  3. 5..4..3..2..1.. Wasn't it a TV game show with Ted Rodgers and dusty bin? Also I'm sure it was a chocolate bar. Anyway I saw it on my dash this morning. I hadn't done any calculations to set my trip, so hence it's not showing. A bit blurry pic as was done whilst driving (couldn't stop), sorry about the finger!
  4. Someone will be searching for a coding/adaptation hack to make it default to off!
  5. 2011 Superb Estate 2.0 CFFB 6-speed manual. 303 000km. I've had the car since 2015. It had 132 000km on the clock. Flywheel started to make noise at 180k km. Got the flywheel+clutch replaced. DPF washed just under 300k km. Original turbo Original starter Original alternator Replaced battery 2017, 177 000km Replaced alternatorbelt tensioner Replaced 2x timing belt kit (third one just ordered) Replaced front+rear shocks and springs Replaced all wheel bearings. Front left two times Remaped 171 bhp/394Nm. Avarage consumption per 100km after 142 000km is 5.04 liters. Calculated from the refuelings. At summer time I get easily 4.0 l / 100km. Going to keep the car to the bitter end. Now the rising threat is RUST.
  6. Ford are going to have to be First Registering lots of EV,s in the UK, leasing cheap or to fleets / car hirers etc to be meeting 22% registrations of their sales for cars. (Maybe the new Government will address the use of partners allowing them to take the p!ss over how they meet the requirements.) They need to be producing models small and less expensive.
  7. My definition of budget is a tyre which compromises performance new or quickly after purchase because of the compound. I do a fair amount of highway driving so if a kangaroo hops in front of me (which is not rare) I want the car to reliably stop as quickly as possible and allow me to manoeuvre if safe to do, so I don’t kill it. If it’s raining and I’m doing 80+kph on crappy B road and I see a new giant pot hole I want confidence I can swerve it instead of forced to drive it in with my teeth clenched and eyes squinted. If an idiot distracted driver cuts me off at 110+kph I want to know the car will hold of I turn out of lane quickly in any condition and not loose control.
  8. It looks like you've got the below Trius alloy rims. All the standard Octavia MK3 tyre sizes have about the same outside diameter, so the speedo isn't affected by whichever size you fit...whether that's 195/65R15, 205/55R16, or 225/45R17, etc. 205/55R16 fitted to a 6.5Jx16 ET46 5/112 57.1 would be a good alternative to 225/45R17. Notice that the below 16" steel rims weighs a lot less than the alloy rims. An alternative to the 6.5Jx16 ET46 5/112 57.1 steel rim, is the 6Jx16 ET48 5/112 57.1 which is a winter tyre rim, but could be used all year round. Yet another alternative, is a non-standard 6Jx16 ET43 5/112 57.1 steel rim (from the Karoq). This has 3mm less offset than the ET46 rim, so will move the centre of the tyre 3mm further out in the wheelarch. A 3mm difference from the standard offset is only a small difference. A Karoq owner recently went the other way, and choose ET46 over his standard ET43 offset, ie. he moved the centre of his tyres 3mm further into the wheelarch. Alcar 8667 6.5Jx16 ET46 5/112 57.1 steel rim (7.6kg) (from Octavia MK3) https://www.mytyres.co.uk/rims/details?vehicleId=185949956245308528&rimCode=ALCAR8667 Alcar 6665 6Jx16 ET43 5/112 57.1 steel rim (7.6kg) (from Karoq) https://www.mytyres.co.uk/rims/details?vehicleId=1284041564754023536&rimCode=ALCAR6665 I suspect the below wheel trim would fit the 6Jx16 ET43 5/112 57.1 steel rim (from Karoq), even though it's sold to fit the 6Jx16 ET48 5/112 57.1 steel rim (winter steel rim from Octavia MK3). Notice that this wheel trim has 14 spokes, which is the same as the number of air holes (to cool the brakes) in the steel rim. 9. I was told the exact opposite to that; sipes are there to increase the rate at which water is moved to the main circumferential grooves or out of the sides of the tread.
  10. My late 2023 Karoq came on Bridgestone ECO EV Enliten tyres with an XL rating from the factory which I found strange. The noise and ride isn't bad the economy is great but the grip dry or wet isn't great. My go to replacements would be Cross Climate 2's but that would mean dropping from an A rated economy tyre to a C. So in real terms what's the economy difference?
  11. So full exhaust on, need to fix the way the backbox mounts. And got sick of the barn dust so took it around for a wash. Got a jack and lifted it up to clean better underneath too, should have done a long time ago. Few more odds and ends on the way too. Also cleaned up the handbrake cables, just tied them to the beam.
  12. I've only had experience with WV (Skoda is same or very similar) and Peugeot with AdBlue. Latter is horrible with it. It's a company car, and almost every time it's time to fill the AdBlue tank, throws all sorts of errors and emission faults. Garage visit needed to fix it (not sure what they're doing with it). Also on the Peugeot, the range is a lot less than on the Skoda. On my Karoq, 10litres of AdBlue is for around 5-7000 miles depending on the usage. I do service every 6k miles, with that the AdBlue gets topped up. Not a single fault or issue so far with the system on the Karoq, apart from the reminder message from the 1000 mile mark. It is certainly possible to map it out, but until it's giving me a headache, I'm not planning to do it.
  13. I had that noisy rear pads experience from buying from ECP way back in maybe 2008, bought new Pagid or Textar pads for my 2000 VW Passat 4Motion - I contacted the UK sales arm of TMD Friction and they sent out the correct kit FOC, that sorted that out! Electric handbrakes, yes, maybe not ideal, but they do have their advantages - after a while.
  14. Thinking about taking all in package when manufacturers warranty ends.
  15. Doing some quick research, the common link with some of the codes is with the 5 volt reference not being at 5V. I am assuming that the 12v battery was checked by the RAC is OK?
  16. Tesla automatically set charge limit to 80% if site is busy and when charging stops, idle fee applies....... so it's quite flexible. For example, even if the site is busy, I can still set limit to 100% and come back in 50 min time as it slowly edges towards 100%. I guess key here is EV charging is flexible and different to petrol station. Enforce the idea that rapid chargers are different to slow AC charger. People shouldn't abandon their car without plan to move it when rapid charging almost finishes. I like anything that educates people about EV's different charging speeds. On brand names, travel back in time 40 years, can you imagine people say with pride that they drive a Skoda? Brand loyalty is stupid, everything changes over time.
  17. Strange! Rather than use the drop-down menu to find settings just click on your profile picture. That should bring up the page I referred to.
  18. In case anyone is interested, I ordered on 6th May and informed today car has been built and in transit to port.
  19. Love the name, YangWang
  20. 1 point
My 2.0 tdi 2020 Kodiaq is dropping engine temperature when coasting, I asked a mechanic for a price to supply and fit a DSG thermostat and he said that the car didn't have one? Before I start looking at the main thermostat/pump can anyone please confirm whether or not the car is actually equipped with a transmission thermostat
  21. Mine is the SE Comfort model which has the most basic 'Swing' infotainment system. Apart from the fact that I think it is awful this one has no built in sat-nav. It does, however, have Android Auto facility which means I can use the Google Maps from my phone which comes up on the car screen and seems quite usable. The only issue I have had with this so far has been an instance where the signal was lost for a worrying length of time.
  22. The head dude with SSHE at the Myrekirk Road Dundee opening was very nice and helpful as was the technician with him. I asked why no pricing posted or on the chargers, he said tap your card. I said no way if you pull up and care about the prices, especially when there is cheaper chargers near. Post the price clearly. These were 69 pence a kWh, he said they are on Electroverse. Well that was a great answer, so i showed him where they are not on the Elctroverse app, but the Osprey charger @ Starbuck next door is. This is the kind of thing they want feed back on. Well there they were hanging about and charging cars & getting media coverage, did nobody think on checking? Not on ZapMap or PlugShare, but they said they sorted that this morning. We will see how long before they appear then. Too many yes men and woman about, but i like to keep them honest. Tell them as it is not as they were told it is and try to then spin it as. ............ See Foot notes 1 re the 60 miles added in 3 minutes. Then there is the 8 miles a minute, 150 kW chargers. Capable vehicles.
  23. the front ones were on my 60 so the dealer swapped them to the new car, the rears I had to get new as the 85 has different sized wheels front and rear unfortunately.
  24. Yes it's USB only but there are several dongles available that plug in to the USB and allow wireless CarPlay. I use this one CPlay2Air
  25. @domhnall Very nice. Did you put the Cross Climates on or did the car come with them fitted? (I spotted a new Volvo EC40 with CCs from the factory the other week)
  26. swapped my 2021 Enyaq 60 for an ex Demo 2024 Enyaq 85 Edition. Much more powerful, more efficient too in my couple of weeks with it so far
  27. The 1.0tsi have a reinforced timing belt, there is no set interval for change (it is scheduled to be be inspected within major service every 2 years), but is generally estimated should be good for at least 130,000 miles or 12-15 years. Whilst earlier DSG boxes had some troubles, you will struggle to find a thread regarding DSG problems when linked to 1.0tsi. Seems to be reliable combination. The only problems that have been common on 1.0tsi were seized turbos and actuators. However nearly all these were on vehicles parked up for long periods during covid, that had been used for mainly local journeys. What seemed to have happened is condensation allowed parts to rust. Those using premium unleaded with less biofuel didn't really get problem (it burns hotter so presumably evaporated any moisture), and those doing not just short journeys also didn't have problems (again probably hotter engine). I have a 1.0tsi DSG (but not in a Fabia), car is now 6 years old, done 62,000 miles, and never had any problems, or needed any warranty work. (actually did get a screw in tyre and need tyre plug, but that is not really cars fault). So I would suggest very reliable combination.
  28. They seem to have a problem getting correct data from SWARCO. Compare Electroverse with CPS / SWARCO / Westmoreland chargers and a lot are wrong. Common denominator is SWARCO back end....
  29. Doesn't seem very much. We had to wait 2hrs to collect daughter's Kamiq as the salesguy was off sick and no-one had arranged the car's PDI. Dealer refunded the cost of the service plan (£249).
  30. Yes the Air box filter. Easy swap. I also removed the "snow baffle" underneath the air filter to improved the airflow even more. Never much much snow where I live & even when it does I can't see how it would ever get that high up inside the engine bay? Maybe a small amount of additional induction roar when accelerating hard but you can't really hear it from inside the car because the exhaust & engine noise drowns it out. K&N say a few extra BHP added as well but on the 280 it's hard to tell as it's pretty quick as standard. Bought mine from the K&N store on Amazon. https://www.amazon.co.uk/stores/KN/page/B6D270E2-F297-4766-AF16-91FD670B145A?ref_=ast_bln If anyone is interested I also have a spare K&N filter for a Karoq 1.5 DSG which I took out of my wife's car when we sold it. It's a bout the same size as the Superb filter but not as deep.
  31. i find them very useful - keeps the car ventilated when parked outside on a hot summer day without having to worry about rain. as above, i can also keep the window cracked open whilst driving, if needed.
  32. Opening today. ** But cheaper charging pretty nearby with Tesla non Tesla @ the Tesla Superchargers.**
  33. @MijIsTired Well, FWIW, one friend of mine (4'11") had a Skoda CitiGo, which was replaced with a Fabia 4.
  34. 2006 onwards Fabia/ Polo or Ibiza. Estates are very practical IMO. I've only experience with 1.9TDi and 1.6TDi ones but both were totally reliable in my ownership. SE trim is a good trim level which is known as a MkII Fabia 3 on early MkII Fabias which confuses some people. Look out for cheap limited/ special edition ones. Could be a bargain depending on condition, milage and history but there's some that have been ragged.
  35. One of the main reasons I went for the SE spec, as it came with 205/55 16's from standard, slightly more compliant ride, bigger, cheaper tyre choice, too. I also went for the lower spec, as wanted less tech gizmos, inc lane assist. Downgrading your tyres & wheels wouldn't be a difficult job, if that was the route you wanted to take. More meat on the tyres would give you slightly better comfort over potholes, no matter what make you put on. I do prefer the extra comfort of the SEL seats, but I wouldn't go to the effort to swap mine.
  36. We had a Tiguan before and had a winter wheel and tyre set with 16" 65% profile tyres and it was like driving on a cloud! Karoq is bad enough - daughter's new SEL Kamiq is on 45% tyres on 18" wheels. Seems ridiculous for the sort of car it is.
  37. K&N for me. Not had to wash it yet. Just make sure you use the K&N label / sticker which hopefully prevents the garage throwing away the K&N & replacing it with a stock filter come service time.
  38. Forget the warranty. It is not your problem and all the hoops and excess and limits applied and T&Cs - it may amount to nothing. The selling dealer is on the hook for first 6 months without question to repair it PROPERLY. If they can't repair it properly it will be a refund. If you had of raised in the first 28 days you could have gone straight to refund. I say again, do not engage with the insured warranty process it will only likely distract and end in little or no satisfaction. You are under no obligation to claim on their insured warranty.
  39. I think that's the % efficiency that they can achieve from the HB on their rolling road. The failure notice should state something like "H/B efficiency 10% - Fail" if that's what they mean. Once we know that, we can make more useful suggestions.
  40. My MY23 can use Laura to change the air con settings. Currently got 1969 software version. But it worked on previous versions 1936? (Might be wrong on version but it was orig from factory) and 1941. You can say things like "my feet are cold" or basic "set temperature to 20c" However Laura is putting it bluntly useless. It's quicker to press the button and screen than it is to get Laura to wake up, understand what your saying and then decide whether or not she can actually perform the task. He/she can be fickle and it's pot luck if it can be asked. Be interested to know if the chat GPT on the face lifts improves Laura's social skills? But I can't imagine it getting rolled out in software update for us older models (even if the system is the same)
  41. I've never tried it, you have nothing to lose by upgrading it or getting a dealer to upgrade it for you.
  42. @Mikey_au @nta16 has raised another very good point. Unless the package is specifically "tuned" for differential tyre sizes front and rear, no 4WD system (be it part-time reactive like Haldex, full time like Quattro system, or part-time selectable like an old Land Rover "series") will appreciate differential tyre sizes front and rear, and the result may be the car "trying to fall over itself", particularly when cornering.
  43. So finally took it for its first spin outside in a long time. It runs, and drives. Had an issue where it died, not sure if it's the battery that was in it (very possible) or a charging issue. Well used to this from it's original incarnation. Put a bigger battery in it and seemed fine. Issue with the power brakes, seem to want to suck down and hold the brakes occasionally. Brakes work fine thankfully, clutch is very low but works fine. Just different to what I'm used to. Would say finishing stretch but not quite yet. Certain other projects detracting from this as usual. But we're getting there.
  44. Latest Updated Speedcams - June, 2024. Here's the latest update of my customised version of EUR Speedcams ( June, 2024 ). They consist of the full EUROPE speed cameras which I've split up into four consolidated poi categories i.e. Fixed Speedcams, Average Speedcams, Variable Speedcams and Redlight Speedcams. They come supplied with my own preferred personal choice of icons, shown below, to match each of the speedcam categories. Remember to Install them as I explained in the first post in this thread i.e. after extracting the zip file remember to open the newly extracted folder and place only the PersonalPOI folder and metainfo2.txt file onto your sd card ( Please Note: a usb stick will not work! ). Also, please remember to select/tick the relevant newly added poi categories and the poi audible warning alert in your infotainment map menu settings after performing the update or they will not display on your map or audibly alert you. Hope you all enjoy them! EUR Speedcams - June, 2024.zip * Credit, past and present, to Nyky from Gpsurl for the use of his database without which these files would not be compiled.
  45. I'm the new owner of no.107 I work for a main dealer in Dublin. She's getting a full restoration back to factory spec Rory Dublin Ireland
  46. Lo and behold:) my 5E0 035 871 A (MIB_Gen2), without glove-compartment unit(!) is compatible with a reverse cam. The worse is yet to come, but I hope I'll manage to install it swiftly. Glad we got that out of the way and I hope it will help others too! Thank you guys and especially you langers2k!
  47. Step by step tutorial how to repair broken Skoda Superb II (may also apply to Octavia II) electric tailgate lift strut. Most common reason for faulty struts are moisture damage in electric motor and rusty brush springs. In this video you can see how to open electric motor, clean rust, fabricate new springs and glue all back together. I have videotaped whole process and you can see it in here:
