  1. That £1k is far better in your daughter's bank then BGs. They have a cheek to hang onto people's money like that.
  2. We arrived just at the right time last night - no sunset to speak of, but the water was like glass. Lovely sky later too🌛
  3. For sale is my late MIL's Ford Fiesta Zetec 90, 1.6 TDCI 5 door. Registered new in 2009 Just had a fresh 12 months MOT with no advisories. Lovely Fiesta with VERY low miles at just 28,000 miles! Serviced yearly by Ford, (last service was 1,000 miles ago) The car has never wanted for anything, everything works as it should and it drives like new. Manual, A/C is ice cold, Central locking, Parking sensors, Heated windscreen, Electric windows, Alloys, Spare wheel, It has always been garaged from new. Very economical motoring with up to 70 mpg and just £20 road tax. Car is in New Romney, Kent, TN28 Sold
  4. That's already in place, it's called Agile Octopus - where the cost per kWh varies every half hour of every day.
  5. It's a sales campaign that they can probably fund as a business expense? But also tests the system for when they want to charge people different prices per hour based upon their individual use?
  6. No, I'm on Agile Octopus not an EV tariff.
  7. I don't have an EV, but I know when I'm going to be cooking my Sunday lunch and doing my washing!!!
  8. you mean they dont fit the UK Governments' agenda of pushing for Zero Emission Vehicles rather than the EU approach of pushing for an overall reduction in emissions ;o) Personally if I had a PHEV (and this sort of thing may well be my next car in a few years) that could do 40-50 miles(and especially because I am privileged enough to have the ability to home charge) most of my motoring would be as "green" as a BEV but would still give me the ability to do longer journeys on demand and with no charger anxiety (and I personally would be happy with the same MPG on petrol as I get with my current 1.4TSI ACT , I'm not asking for 80mpg on petrol). I'm sure the same holds true for most people. Stating its "not green" is blinkered thinking IMHO.
  9. Instead of asking them to put it right, tell them to put it right. The car is pretty much new, so obviously under warranty. They have to put it right if there is a fault. Simple as that.
  10. I finally got around to getting some pics of the car with the camera rather than the phone whilst on holiday last week.....
  11. Hi all, so last weekend got the car back, here's some random pics: I think they technically missed a spot on the B-Pillar, where there's a bit of primer that wasn't covered with white, but it's nice and lacquered, so not going to worry. The rest is not too bad, and the use of the stone chip for the sill underside hopefully helps. The benefit of having relatives in this industry is that from their overall quote of £2800, I was asked for less, and paid £1200 for the job. Given the amount of effort, I'm very happy with the result. Most of the rust they encountered and ground down appears to have been surface rust somehow rather than my fear of coming from the inside out. I'll give the car 3-4 years before I go further with it, and hopefully by then there'll be more power and whatnot assuming all's well. Assuming none of this comes back again... Only niggles were that the doors were off which triggered the airbag light, but nothing the VCDS couldn't clear (missing sensors, which makes sense as the doors were missing). The other niggle was that the car was left standing for long periods of time, which took its final toll on the battery. Despite leaving it overnight on a trickle charger, a trip to the petrol station to fill up left me stranded and standing like a lemon when my backup jump starter couldn't give it enough juice to tick over. I was at the mercy of a kind white van man who drove over and lobbed over his jump leads. Was super lucky he was around and it was early enough in the morning to have not caused a massive queue at the forecourt. That poor original Moll battery was ditched, and amusingly, lying around in the garage was a 096 battery. Specifically a Yuasa YBX5096, so technically not compatible with this car due to not really being suited to start-stop. However, that's been on the trickle charger for years, and it starts up the car without issue, so will suffice whilst I recover from the bodyshop bill and swap it with a proper one. Wife doesn't like the start-stop so disabling it is usually the first thing she does, so the battery will tide me over for a while. Would make sense that a YBX9096 is the target. I think that's that for a while though. Maybe I'll take pics of a battery change if really required, but other than planning for the future and maybe some tiny bits, the car's ready to be used! Maintenance: £3540.22 (+£1200.00) Upgrades: £1595.25 Miscellaneous: £820.07
  12. I have to say I'd be fighting that one all the way. If the car is under warranty and you're getting a fault message, there's a fault and Skoda should rectify it without slugging you with a fake charge. A few years ago I had the same issue with my Mk7 Golf DSG and VW replaced the shifter, no costs, no arguments. It's amazing the DSG 'bug' still seems to be in existence, it must be costing VW a fortune for letting the problem go on for so many years now.
  13. Just want to say letting the car idle to finish the regen is IMO a bad idea and unecessary. It's a waste of fuel and I think it is likely to cause more oil dilution and wear to the cylinders than it otherwise would by just letting it carry on regenerating the next time you drive it.
  14. I was just being a bit weak. Bent the roll bar down and jobs done. Was very simple in the end. Every day is a school day....
  15. Probably because remote precondition only requires a heater/chiller to be turned on without enabling power to the motors???? Same goes for any aux heater in an ICE vehicle, I would imagine as long as the main engine doesn't need to be running then it's exempt ----------------- ahhhh it could almost be considered "wooly" lol The term 'motor vehicle' is defined in section 185(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1988 and section 136(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as "a mechanically propelled vehicle, intended or adapted for use on roads". Although this is the legal definition, ultimately it is a matter of fact and degree for a court to interpret as to whether or not a vehicle is a motor vehicle at the time of the incident. The term "mechanically propelled vehicle" is not defined in the Road Traffic Acts. It is ultimately a matter of fact and degree for the court to decide. At its most basic level it is a vehicle which can be propelled by mechanical means. It can include both electrically and steam powered vehicles. "Intended or adapted for use on roads" is also not defined by statute and again is ultimately a matter for the court to decide based on the evidence before it. There has, however, been extensive case law on the subject and the main point that emerges is what is known as the reasonable man test as per the following cases: Other vehicles which are not currently lawful for use on public roads unless registered and insured include self-balancing scooters (e.g. Segways), mini-Segways, Hoverboards, and single-wheel electric skateboards. https://www.cps.gov.uk/legal-guidance/road-traffic-summary-offences#:~:text=The term 'motor vehicle' is,adapted for use on roads".
  16. This might give you some idea
  17. ahhhhhhhh.................. The net is not an individual item. You need the parcel shelf that includes the integrated net (the B option below). I don’t know about Australia but the shelf with integrated net was never made available as an option in the UK. Part numbers are 3V5867769B - parcel shelf with integrated net & blind 3V5867769C - parcel shelf with integrated blind 3V5867769E - parcel shelf only Note: blind requires additional magnetic mounting points.
  18. Unless it's an EV you're talking about and then, according to your posts, energy costs are all that matters...
  19. I have the factory fitted sun shades - both for rear doors and the shelf. I did not choose to order the shelf net, which was an option.
  20. Having had both, I would happily have another Superb, not so the Kodicr** as we named it !
  21. Oh I don't dispute you can use it for anything but take a look at the underlying context of your original post on the matter, I was merely staying within that context ;o)
  22. FYI Briish Gas offer half price leccy on Sundays and have done for some time. Eg this weekend NB I have a (minor) Beef with Octopus. I thought "lets see how their prices compare" Nope my Address doesn't show up on a Postcode search. I wouldn't mind but the house has been here for 200 years and there are only 4 properties covered by the Postcode so what ever system theyre using for address lookups is rubbish !!! And yes my address is on Royal Mail, I know its in PAF (Postcode Address Finder) files as used by many providers and I also happen to know (through work) it's in the GB Group Data files . This is the only place I've been too recently that can't seem to find me ;o)
  23. Not EV tariff limited. One just has to be an Octopus customer and click to join in. One needs a Smart meter obvious so system knows one has used the power in the hour slot. Octopus have now passed Centrica ie British Gas due to their prices and service. A Shining example of the Third Way of living. A business but massively benefits the customers and not only the owners. Greg Jackson is a super star.
  24. Octopus announce another free hour of electricity tomorrow ie Sunday 18th of August 2024, between 1 pm and 2 pm BST. As a response petrol stations have announced two hours of free petrol. Nah, I made that up. This free lecky is becoming a thing all over the world where solar, along with wind energy is in such abundance the good lecky suppliers are happy to give away for free. This is likely to extend to longer mid day periods going forward here in the UK but also in Oz, mainland Europe and other places where, despite massive battery storage continuing to be built, closing coal plants for good in Oz, China, Germany and many other countries. Negligible cost for motive energy, very low services costs and falling EV proces. The truth about electric cars. (And low to zero emission so help saves the planet for our kids & grandkids)

Surely you need to do more research about where the cooling air can enter and engine bay hot air can go when your car is going slow or stationary in city traffic, at lower speeds when climbing mountain roads, in hot summer weather.
  26. Lateral Thinking out loud: Are EVs covered by the above in regards to the "motor" , handbrake element obviously is.? Are there definitions in the Act of exactly what a "motor vehicle " is ? Does an EV with the ignition on and not moving have its "motor" running (note the above doesn't state it's an offence to leave the ignition on) ? Note it also states "which is not attended by a person licensed to drive it" rather than stating "which does not have a person licensed to drive it sat behind the steering wheel or other controls" Actually that last thought makes 107 non applicable to the scenario of self driving forward. If you are standing in front of the car and have control of it via an app or keyfob then by definition you are surely "attending it", aren't you? (which is possibly why as @wyx087 states in the EU/UK the distance has been nerfed to a few meters, presumably to comply with things such as 107)
  27. Hi I've currently repaired my broken one using metal epoxy. It seems solid. Il try that first, see how it goes. Thanks for letting me know, if my fix fails I'll pm you.
  28. Remove the entire glovebox assembly and release it from that, its a whole lot easier.

I'm not sure what you were expecting is allowed on the forum. But I might have been thinking similar.

Well this topic wasn't what I thought it was...
  31. Thank you so much! 3 broken wires now soldered back together and heat shrink wrapped and a working passenger wing mirror!
  32. Check driver's side wiring, I think you may find a relavant broken wire or two there.
  33. Probably you have old type of Premium Bluetooth that takes over SIM via RSAP (Remote Sim Access Profile) and doesn't support audio streaming. Look under front right seat and read the BT module part number (located under the plastic housing).
  34. Further £300 discount and £500 extra for trade-in so order placed.
  35. Have you considered an Octavia Scout as an alternative? You'll get the 4x4 drive, it's a bit higher than a standard Octavia so will be easier for the elderly to get in and out of, and it's a very practical car. But the Kodiaq would seem to me to be the better of the two on your shortlist, given the info provided. The Superb might be a bit big for your wife, if she's nervous about driving big cars.
  36. If you have the 3 cylinder 1.2 engine have the oil pump and the one way valve in the oil filter housing checked and if nessacery replaced if you have the timing chain replaced. Also at the slightest rattle sound from the engine have the chain tensioners checked. A £1600 engine overhaul is a slightly bitter pill to swallow.

    Yesterday and yes
  38. I prefer a car over an SUV, so I'm gonna say Superb. Having had a Mk1 when my parents were getting on, they loved the comfort, access, and class-leading rear legroom. Agree with Skomaz about room and access for dogs. I'd imagine the Superb is a better mile muncher than a Kodiaq. My Superb was a 2.5V6 TDI, which I think was a lowly 163bhp, or thereabouts - never felt lacking in grunt, and wafted along effortlessly. Gaz

Thank you, I had a diagnostic done and it came up with the motor being at fault, booked it in at a Skoda specialist in a couple of weeks at a cost of £260, which does seem a bit cheaper than expected.
  40. That was just a temp repair so I could drive the car back home. Just needs a clean up. I tried using silicone to try hold the mirror in place. Still sat here trying to figure out how to take the metal clip off.
  41. Here is the pic @Gizmo with thanks.
  42. Depends how you value your time and effort... but that's your shout. Personally I wouldn;t bother
  43. To be honest the filter is a £10 part and easily done DIY... it's not worth arguing over IMHO
  44. Hey all, apologies for the pseudo thread revival! It's been a while because the car has been dropped off to a body shop, specifically my nephew's in-law's bodyshop to have a crack at the sills. Then went on holiday for a couple weeks. Not sure when they started, but they've been cracking on: I was presuming it would be a quick removal of rust and blowover, but instead looks a bit more thorough, wasn't expecting doors to be removed as part of the process! From the pics I've been sent, they're still at the rear arches from looking at the primer there. I've asked to not bother with the front bumper because I honestly reckon a complete replacement would be better value and I'll get there when I get there. Guys involved are just as shocked as everyone else regarding the amount of rust, but hopefully, this'll help some. No ETA but I'll assume it'll be another week or two, then I can find out whether the cost has genuinely meant this car was worth all that effort! Maintenance: £2340.22 Upgrades: £1595.25 Miscellaneous: £820.07
  45. Sharing a few pics of my black pearl MKIV Skoda Octavia VRS external and internal with moonroof open.
  46. Bumping up this thread a bit. 🙂 I have just installed new adjustable coilovers by KW. And new rims.
  47. I'm rather mystified by some of the comments here. FWIW, I have no issues with paint chipping or the build quality of this car in general, in fact I think these things are as well screwed together as most others I've had. The standard of fit and finish is at least equal to that of my previous Golf, which was excellent. To date I've covered only 7,000km in the Octavia, including some long country runs in the company of many large trucks. To answer the OP's question I went over my bonnet area with a fine tooth comb this morning and found absolutely no sign of paint chips - maybe I've just been lucky, who knows? As time and distance goes on it's inevitable the odd chip or three will occur, as on every car I've ever owned. It helps that we don't have the curse of salted roads in this part of the world, which together with dwelling a little away from the coast means the likelihood of rust appearing anywhere on the car is virtually non-existent.
  48. Best as I can tell, what Skoda call "traffication" for a fiver is entirely separate to the live traffic info on the map, which is much more expensive annually. I enabled it for a fiver last year to see what it did. When enabled, you get another screen that allows you to report "an event" when you see it. If by some bizarre miracle another Skoda (only, I think) driver who has also paid their fiver reports "an event" and it's somewhere near you, it will pop up on your screen. This is nothing like traffic reports on the satnav screen, and certainly nothing like reports in Waze or whatever either. I might be wrong, but I think that's how it works.
