  3. People don't want scientific though do they. They want to know what will happen when they drive it. The conditions for all the cars were the same at the time of filming. Actual experience not scientific ideal conditions results.

  5. Well here in Chelmsford there are currently approaching 1,000 new flats nearing approval stage that will involve demolishing shopping areas including a mall and rebuilding a new mall with flats above and surrounding it, with other blocks of flats, all of which have zero, yes, that's right zero parking arrangements, so anyone with a car will be forced to look for alternative parking solutions. The streets around the area are all pedestrianised and then the streets around the that area are all the type which have terraced houses as you see in the photo, narrow streets, parking only on one side, the houses themselves are only fractionally wider then the length of a small SUV, so not everyone can park their car there, those that can, do so on a permit. Currently there are no EVs in that area for reasons I mentioned in an earlier post. Like it or not, you are in a very privileged position and as a result you really cannot comprehend how vast numbers of normal everyday folk have to live their lives., so how are these people supposed to cope?
  6. Maybe a good idea for another test. Get four identical cars make and model and see who gets the furthest?
  7. Hi all, update is... stuck and dirty EGR valve. Will Forté again tomorrow and retest.

I think the next thing to look at is one of the wheel speed sensors as they feed the ECU with information about what the wheels are doing (direction and speed; maybe direction as that would affect the cornering light but I would have thought that was steering angle)...in that case, maybe the front ones first
  9. If you've bought an approved used Skoda from a dealer within the last 3 weeks and it has developed a fault, go straight back to the dealer and explain what the problem is. I've only had automatic Skoda's so can't comment on the "depress clutch" message other than to say, my previous manual Volvo would not start unless you depressed the clutch. This was a safety feature to prevent you trying to start the car while in gear. I can imagine if the car stalls in traffic you panic and your first action would be to try to restart it without depressing the clutch. Regarding the car sticking in low gears and reverse, this sounds like a clutch problem and could also be contributing to the stalling issue. Take the car back to the dealer you bought it from and ask them to fix it under warranty. They may claim that the clutch is a wear and tear item so not covered but as you've only had the car 3 weeks it's reasonable to claim the faulty clutch was present at the point of sale.
  10. Really??!! I think that's your south east home counties viewpoint showing there... As there's lots of old terraced stone housing in rural villages north of Luton...
  11. The UK Media including the motoring press (or Vloggers) seem to be no wiser on anything this week than they were last week. If anything is to change in December 2024 then surely time the Government were announcing it.
  12. I dont believe it does in the UK just a can of goo, but if ordered as an option the tools are stored in the RHS foam boxes that surround the spare wheel and make supports for the carpet/hardwood panelled floor. We ordered the spare wheel option with ours. 🙂
  13. This time. "56% of homes in the UK have a driveway." The p!ss figures just keep getting rolled out without being substantiated. Do even 56 % of properties people live in have access to a public road from the door? Houses with roadside frontages no rear garden access, Terraced, Tenements, four in a block, multi-stories, home of multiple occupancy, Riverboats / Canal Boats end many other places people live without driveways is very likely more than half of homes in the UK.

Hi, Do you mean something like this ? Otherwise, I think @JR RS has some he may recommand... As far as I remember, they are quite similar to these ones: Another solution could be these ones, if you intend to lift your Superb a bit higher: (Seen on Ali... I don't have them)

  17. In the city environment EVs love shaming ICE car off the light and it does not waste power having a bit of fun whap it up to 30 in about 3 seconds before the ice has even reached max power in first gear. EVs are very efficient round town, even more than an ICE with start stop so one does not even think about conserving except doing the braking with regen. It is in speed range over 60 that one starts thinking about the cubic law of aero drag, unless in a Polestar or model 3 Highland it seems. We are awaiting these Enso tyres and next generation of batteries, investors and lecky motors which will move from 90% to about 95% plus efficiency and a few more kj per kilogram.

Many thanks for that i had exactly the same problems as you have described Zip download only 15 GB .. Don't think I will be wasting any more money on the map updates.
  19. Correct, the Quattro (note the upper case Q) had a Torsen centre diff - as did the early A4, A6, etc quattro (not the lower case q) versions. Later A4, A6, etc.versions switched to Haldex to lower emissions.
  20. Oil temperature, the properties of oil don't change dependant on what engine is being lubricated. It was stated that oil temp should remain below 110°c, I disagreed citing my real world experience of oil temperatures, so did Occy245, I notice that you did not award him a WTF regarding his stripped 718 whatever that may be. The engine was a Honda CBR1100XX, the oil was full synthetic
  21. Ok, here’s the result of my research: I ended up installing the 5Q1. 5Q0953569B — This variant is ambiguous. If the module is from VW, it does not include components for the third ACC stalk. The same applies to 5Q0953569A (this also concerns both A and B). It might be possible to solder the necessary components, but to be sure, it's better to get it assembled with the stalk. 5Q0953569C — Starting from 01/12/2019, the 5Q0953569B modules were replaced with 5Q0953569C, which were installed exclusively on Skoda. Apparently, this confusion became a problem for everyone, so they created a dedicated module for Skoda with support for the third ACC stalk. Transition to the new 5Q1 module — These began to be installed on facelift models and are no longer standalone "16 modules" but rather a "submodule" of the BCM. In the catalog, the stalk and the steering column module are listed together under a single part number. After spending some time on the diagrams, the following differences were identified: The 5Q1 module no longer receives the CAN Comfort connection. An additional LIN bus is added to the BCM module at T73c/54. Airbag contacts are now combined into the same connector as the others. The transmission lock switch is now routed to BCM T73a/24. This variant is possible only with newer BCMs. Visually, the necessary pins appear starting with version 5Q0937084CQ (installed from 01/06/2017). Whether it supports all functionality 100% — I cannot confirm. Will add more details later
  22. Connect your car to your home wifi, that was the only way I could do it.
  23. I upgraded using a USB-drive to 48/2024, and it displayed 24.6 at that point. That is until a day or two ago, when it suddenly started to display 24.10 instead... Confusing... 😄
  24. My verdict is still out on the aero wheel things; I'll see how I feel about them when it arrives and it looks like an easy job. @GrumpyOldGit sounds like your build date is first week after factory shutdown, so it might be transported fairly quickly to the docks. Sometimes they can sit at the docks for a while however, and you can't really get updates until it's been assigned to a ship; after that however, you should then get a fairly good estimate on when your car can be handed over to you
  25. Mine was built week commencing 11th November
  26. God no. In no small part that the USD is the world's reserve currency. Even in trade from Far East to Europe, as well as America, the USD is the currency usually for both freight and goods. New York has been the business capital of the world but this is changing. China will pass US economy size in a few more years.
  27. A few more photos and lots of photos here Flickr
  28. I think Mr EV did a good job demonstrating no home charging still works. Albiet charging is always on one's mind. Keeping in mind his is also worst case scenario, where they both work from home (no work place charging) and they are in a remote rural area with fewer public charging infrastructure. I think most people living in rural area will have the space for driveways. Not seen a lot of terraced house in rural area.

There is a pinned thread at the top of the Fabia Mk2 section on Oil Filters for 1.2 TSI,s of the wrong dimensions, names the Manufacturers name on the filter. There is also threads on the common issue. The Tech / Fitter / DIY,er forgetting to remove the oil rubber seal. Also over tightening the oil filter.
  30. As above, I can't speak for the pre-facelift cars, but our 2015 4x4 had no wheel well to put anything in. Our 2017 4x4 has basically a raised floor to accommodate the fitted factory spare. Our dog knows we've changed their Yeti.

Good advice above, if it'll start then don't get pushing it, no harm will be done. Yes same problem I have, can't get the bonnet up when I'm parked in the garage, my last car, a SEAT was the same, needed the passenger door open to release. If your Kamiq is like mine, left a few days without use (in colder weather) it may sound a little slow to turn over but does burst into life easily. I've checked my battery, it has said it's fine, just needs a charge or more use to get it charged. I use one of these for checking, below link. Up until earlier this year, now sold, I had an MX-5 laid up during winter, handy to have battery meters, chargers etc. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/372436652444?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=vrAwd99DT4i&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=PjrX0wOKTfG&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  32. This thread has some comment on the 4G/LTE connectivity...
  33. After having a goosie, if the car is later and has AD-blue, then the tools are in a circular tub that fits inside the spare wheel .... 🙂 Its only the moulding for the detachable tow bar swan neck that in the later foam boxes, oh and a hole to allow the refilling of the Ad-blue tank.

  35. 100% of WLTP range when so many are the likes of 5 miles a kWh is not getting achieved. That WLTP range is when you look CITY, not a Motorway / Highway. 155 miles. needs 3.5 miles a kWh. 235 is 5.3 miles a kWh. City. Unlikely...

those r very similar to the ones i have, however they will not clear the front bumper of the Superb if the car is lowered. forget it if u have a front splitter like me!! lol so now i always have to use axle stands for the front. no clearance issues with the back though.

When it comes to the boxes, RacingLine do one now too. But the additional benefit is that if/when you decide to move to a full remap, you get it free as long as you’ve bought from an official dealer. The boxes can control boost and fuel to match, but there are other elements such as ignition timing and fuel/air ration that they can’t change so that’s what their improvements are limited. I’ve got a 2021 280 so Gen4 engine and DQ381 gearbox. The tune is Stage 1 which gives a quoted 400bhp but with an R600 induction setup with intake hose it should be a little more than that; probably around 420. You have the option of a reduced torque upgrade if you don’t have the dsg remapped but for me it was a no-brainer. The torque pick-up is noticeable from when the boost starts to appear around 2k revs. After that to move to Stage1+ you need an uprated intercooler to around 435, and then a high-flow cat for Stage 2 pushing towards 450 (these are only quoted figures though) so you really start to get a law of diminishing returns. I’ve got updated coil packs on mine although opinion is divided as to their impact - for me I thought they’d at least help to make sure the spark is decent all the way through the rev range. The additional maps are all free with the self-flashing PDM. So there’s all that in the mix - buy a racing line box now, then get to upgrade properly if/when you want to…
  39. Yes, but you are distorting the results again from the conditions that Matt set for the test, and you're thinking like a person who is besotted with EVs. Whereas Matt was thinking about people who were thinking about transitioning from an ICE to an EV where heat is a by product of combustion and using a heated seat would be increasing the load on the engine and thus decreasing the range. Surely it is better anyway to be at a comfortable temperature all over your body and not have a hot/warm back and be cold everywhere else? As you get older, you feel the cold more, especially in the feet and hands and cold fingers are not good for driving and wearing gloves is equally not good.
  40. Heated seats use almost no energy so better to use than air con especially when temperature outside is 13c or so so not needed. Eco mode can get the last n'th of energy so I will have on for a bit but oft use the steering wheel mode selector to flip in to comfort and even sport mode for a few seconds or minutes. I find i can reach by destination in a few percent left whether i am travelling 80, 80, 100 or 110% of WLTP range. Just manage the speed and then can hardly ever need to public charge. Much cheapness if charging but lots of claiming at the Treasury mileage rate. Could gave made life easier with tge version that a hundred miles more range but quite stimulating playing the hit the optimum cruising to get home with a margin I am happy with ie about 5% showing.
  41. @nta16, @Occy245 and @J.R. thanks for the replies and welcoming attitude. Now the tools nta16 has mentioned might not be as relevant as the "is a skoda with high said mileage worthwhile to invest in?", but it's something i can keep in the back of my head for the future - it might just become relevant. This is afterall my first car, and being informed about general & specific things can come in handy and contributes to me having more of a clue. Something i'd like to hear more about is; Why & how a 10 y/o car is better off having high(er) mileage than low-very low? Second; What would be considered high mileage for a 1.4 TSI 140/250 engine? Third; How far, probably depending on a lot of factors, can the 1.4 TSI engine go for?
  42. I recently got a new set (front and rear) from Amazon for my Octavia - very reasonable price and seem to be good quality. Will look up supplier soon.
  43. @RickW, yes, I have a drinking friend who has had heated screens on his Fords for maybe 15 years or more, and feels very smug in winter time! Mind you, we always have our cars in a garage so only an issue "after work" etc.
  44. Today I got new maps database via OTA. Now I have 24.10 so paid service infotainment online does work.

Thanks all but if you go on the Skoda update portal site you will find the zipped download to be 15gb which is normally about 26gb in previous years. Thank you all for the comments this forum has certainly helped me with several things. https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/en-GB/Updates
  46. I also think it is more to do with the battery failing, I had the start engine manually message come up a few months ago, which appeared following the engine stopping while sitting in a traffic jam with the stop/start. The message appeared when the car attempted to restart. Replacing the battery cured the problem. The battery was tested and it was duff.

  49. Hi They must have altered it from the early mk3's as the bottom glove box before 2014 is part of the dash and is not removable so I have found out. They probably changed the design due to so many heater fan failures and the whole dash had to be removed too replace the fan. which a garage would charge a fortune for. I have the same problem so I'm just going to carefully cut out a hole in the glovebox with my dremmel and change out the fan and use a rubber glass window gasket too refit the cut out, as it really is a long laborious job to remove the dash.
