  1. Calliper or flex hose failure wouldn't leak brake fluid onto the front carpet - suggest checking the master cylinder too.
  2. Absolutely not, the clutch would have failed long before the brakes were starved of fluid.
  3. Yes - MK3 Octavia front wipers are handed. - LHD part number is 5E1 998 001 - RHD part number is 5E2 998 001 There are a few other part numbers as it looks like it's been superseded, but the initial 5E1 vs 5E2 means it's different for LHD and RHD. If you want Bosch areotwins that'll be: - LHD part number A620S or A419S (former is 475mm passenger side, latter is 450mm passenger side) - RHD part number A860S (only a 475mm passenger side option) Simple reason is that areowipers have a front facing profile so if the attachment clip isn't in the centre or can't be reversed, it would be backwards... It took longer to write this reply than google for the answer
  4. Picked up my first ever Skoda yesterday and promptly took it for a drive where I normally ride my motorcycles. Very impressed so far but obviously early days. Only negative is the widely reported excess road noise on some roads. I even tried the emotive start up procedure figuring it wouldn't work because I hadn't heard of it on a Skoda but even that works too. DCC is great for bumpy roads letting you tune in to the road conditions where sport mode would be too firm. The engine sound and character is pretty good considering the EA888 isn't the most sonorous power plant but ditching the sound actuator for an actual sports exhaust was a good move. Compared to the Mark 4 RS I drove the car feels much snappier probably more due to the DSG re-turning in this face lift. The revised, larger screen and software is snappy and responsive and you can configure it quite well with the shortcuts etc.. that you need to have. The Suede / leather electric seats with the thigh support look fantastic (very Audi-esque) and are very comfy. So far the Canton system is good rather than great to my ear (not as good as the Harmon Kardon systems I've had in BMWs before) but I haven't had much time to fiddle with the settings yet. My wife and I were considering many more expensive vehicles in our search, ironically all VAQ from an RSQ3 Sportback to RS3 / S3. Didn't really gel with the Golf R so gave that a miss but were very keen on a facelifted Formentor VZ but something about the Skoda even though far less impressive on paper just felt right. It was a car I wanted to just drive. It reminds be very much of my old Audi A4 Turbo Quattro Avant from back in the day albeit more powerful, front wheel drive only and DSG instead of manual. It is also available in colours rather than the different shades of depressed that so many modern cars come in.
  5. It's never going to make financial sense to keep changing cars. Buy the cheapest car you can and run until it has to be scrapped. But what's the fun in that?
  6. At last service, I was told wipers had it, but did not fit new Škoda ones. Instead, said I would be better off going to Halfords!😂
  7. I believe the Mk3 brake master cylinder reservoir shares the fluid with the clutch, with the brake fluid being taken from the reservoir lower down than the clutch take-off. It sounds like the master cylinder has failed.
  8. You do not need to pay it back. The concept is that all the big car manufacturers own or have tie ups with finance divisions. Usually the deal is deposit + x months at £Y + final payment of £Z. If you add up the payments they are often few thousand more than cash price. So basically they make more if you take the deal and pay it to the end. The finance and credit laws in UK give you a 14 day cooling off period (from date of signing which is usually just before car pick up). They take risk only a small percentage will pay it off quickly (and the discount you get is effectively subsidised by the majority who don't settle in full). It's not advertised as such but your discount you keep is a subsidy from the poorer who can't afford to buy the car in one go.
  9. Seems to be hit and miss. Good examples and not bad ones, just flawed( but we love them anyway). Love phoenix orange colour.
  10. @travs - u should check out RPM's anti-drone version.
  11. In case it's any help to anyone in the future, the cause of this problem turned out to be a faulty relay (the 645 one in the engine bay fuse box), which was discombobulating the ECM. Did a Carista scan, searched the fault code in this forum and found that a very helpful user called Bob3 had experienced and sorted the very same problem.
  12. Dear Community, My first time in a forum of this nature - so hello all. I've run several Skodas over the years, my first being an orange 120 Super Estelle - which was far from brisk but great off road! I also enjoyed my Octavia VRS for several years. I bought my 2011 Yeti 6 years ago and have enjoyed every minute of ownership. It's an awesome all rounder and in original 160 BHP guise, is no slouch. However, i decided to take the plunge and get the ECU remapped today to around 210 BHP and with up to 310 NM torque. My first impressions after a 2 hour play, it was well worth the £275. The engine turbo spins up earlier and quicker, with a more rapid throttle response. I'm smiling now just writing about it! Insurance also reasonable - £360 fully comp. Time for another drive!
  13. So I got round to cleaning the car and fitting these wipers today, I can confirm they fit absolutely fine even though the car fitting only shows as Tesla on the box etc, exact same size as my VRS the rear again fits perfect, but it’s shorter than the original part by an inch possibly, but once inside the car, you can’t see or notice as it still covers the swept area from what you see inside so not worth chasing up over etc I was concerned that oem Skoda blades would have been more robust possibly and I have used Bosch for years but also hear they aren’t made like the used to be etc, but IMO the Bosch are much more sturdy than the oem parts, more so I will happily use these again for the price compared to the quote from Skoda at just under £90 for all blades I have pics to add but site won’t allow the size upload, I’ll try figure it out and add them soon
  14. Great satisfaction, fun even for me
  15. You should have mentioned a desire to go 'EV'.......😀 I bet he'd have been straight back.
  16. I have fixed it. I stripped the cowel off the steering column. You need a no 25 star drive. Undo the screw on the underside of the column. Then unclipped the upper section, it will flip up. You will see two more screws, remove these and the lower section can be taken out the way. There are two silver small screws infront if the stalk base, take these out. Unclipped the surround round the stalk, it has two clips infron and the circle of plastic round the slake comes free. Split the stalk with a small flat head screwdriver. The back comes off. You can now wangle the wires out. Unplug it from the column, a small clip and pull. You can now join the broken wires and reassemble. Use a crimp if you have one but don't join at the break, this is where pressure is and it passes through the stalk. The wires are too short and so they are tight against the plastic. I used the smallest electrical block connector, shaved off the excess plastic so it fitted in the stalk and used a bigger one at the other end where there is loads of room.
  17. Most likely just a detuned version for the 115 - less fuel injected and lower boost pressure.
  18. In the last 5 days I've had an email,a letter and today a message from Marriott's offering me exactly the same " personalised offer ". Their department's clearly don't communicate with each other, because if they did they'd know that I'm awaiting delivery of a new Karoq in the next couple of weeks 😆
  19. Hello, welcome to the forum. Very possibly a faulty fuel injector, a VCDS scan should show the cause of fault.
  20. Thanks man........ @EnterName .......... I'm under 50 ................. ............. or am I .......................... I can't remember, Lol.
  21. Looks like the brake master cylinder seals have gone the journey and dumped all of the fluid down the servo, then down the pedal piston. Quite scary if it had happened with the car on the move, thankfully it didn’t!
  22. Happy birthday @Tilt
  23. This is the kit. https://shop.wingsskoda.co.uk/products/skoda-spare-wheel-set-octavia-iv
  24. @Graham Butcher We will see if the Scottish Government manage to have the usual love in with ARNOLD CLARK, or maybe First Minister John Swinney MSP,s uncle Sir Tom Farmer can get in on things. He who founded Kwik Fit.
  25. @Graham Butcher Google is your friend and very handy and the Scottish Government are great on press releases. Crap at implementing stuff. Always behind their own time scale. I have a car, have a contract, My payments are made and i get letters on what changes as legislation requires. So they can change names, change how medicals are carried out,etc etc, but the Dealers & Salespeople are the same, the car lists are the same so when something actually changes you can let me know. nr_social_security_and_adult_disability_payment_as.pdf
  26. @Shetlandtim Was that a car sales person or the dealer principle telling you? You know when they lie, their lips move.
  27. I’m considering retrofitting front and rear parking sensors on my Octavia MK3. I’d appreciate any advice from those who’ve done it before. What parts should I be looking for, where can I source them, and should I tackle the installation myself or let a garage handle it? Any tips (also on ensuring compatibility with thevhead unit and whatnot), links, or experiences would be much appreciated. Thanks!
  28. @Ootohere Google is your friend, sometimes.. AVE = What is the new Motability scheme in Scotland? The Motability Scheme, or Accessible Vehicles and Equipment Scheme as it is now known for those in Scotland on Adult Disability Payment (ADP) or Child Disability Payment (CDP), offers an affordable way for disabled people to get around outside more easily. 3 Jan 2025
  29. Very nice, congratulations on your new steed. I like those revised RS wheels, definitely more appealing than the Pre FL ones, which to my eye looked like they're hewn from stone with a blunt chisel. I know, it's all in the eye of the beholder, but wheels are important and the new styling 'accents' are a great improvement. Happy motoring!
  30. Many of us enjoy dual tariffs with Octopus or firms doing cheap night time like OCtopus GO and Intelligent Octopus go ie 8.5 or 7 p per KWh for 5 or 6 hours. Peak time rate only 25.32 p per wh so no real penalty there. These firms seem to reckon that giving more off peak time users will not use as much peak time lecky. Presumably they have worked out they will not lose money at these rates so why others so high. There gas is only 6.19 p per kwh also so quite a good rate. Apparently Eon, who I am also enrolled with to use chargers at work are no offering 6.7 P per KWh and for 7 hours a day !!!! ....... https://www.eonnext.com/tariffs/next-drive?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_account=E.ON-Next&utm_campaign=EV-Tariff-Acquisition-Search&utm_Adgroup={Adgroup}&utm_keyword=eon next electric car tariff&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8KaA6-zEiwMV-5ZQBh1WmDPoEAAYASAAEgK8ZPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds In this time that the cap rate is due to go up about 7% or so on April Fools Day. Sound like we all need to be on one of these great dual rates and maximise their usage or fix tariffs unless all the deal are evaporating as Martin Lewis was saying they appeared to be doing.
  31. Audi S3 8Y (ie Gen4) looks to be shown well on these pics: https://diversionstores.co.uk/products/vagsport-audi-s3-8y-2020-resonator-delete-pipe-kit
  32. @Carst-2018SKODASuperb Nice one, mate. It does sound a bit more farty fruity.
  33. No. How low? Thanks. AG Falco
  34. I believe you can settle the PCP at any time. Paying the settlement in the first month would mean minimal interest charge and yes you keep any incentives, contributions, etc. Plenty of posts on here on the subject.
  35. Mine was ordered just days after Edition variant was released and is now at dealers with private plate on - just waiting for 1.3.25 pick up as it is so close to then
  36. Sanatate! You are preparing for summer and we here wait for a "siberian cold"wave! 😬 In any case, I should also start to get ready ....
  37. Update on a front lights issue that I had. The lights can be adjusted from the dealership. Now, they are working fine.
  38. I changed the wipers within days of getting ours - how on earth can they be so bad! The a/c is noisy in hot weather - like there's another fan behind the dash, They changed the compressor but by the time they did it the weather had cooled down so it wasn't so noticeable but it's still there. Our Kamiq is silent and so is the Ateca (although the Ateca's compressor did fail too). I had a courtesy Karoq one time and that was noisy too. It's enough that we turn the a/c off if not needed (but run it for a bit most trips). Garage had the car for days trying to find the front suspension noise - turned out to be the strut pistons knocking on the bump stops. There's a TSB that says to grease them but it's coming back again. DSG judders a bit from rest. Car is just generally crashy and rattly. As mentioned earlier, the 18" 50% profile tyres don't help, but the Kamiq is also on 18's at 45% and that drives fine.
  39. FANTASTIC! Many thanks for that "Link Here" to what looks like the basic maps app and db reinstall package! I unzipped that file onto a 32GB USB drive, inserted it into the car, did the 5-second MENU press to get to the engineering menu, selected the USB drive to use, and it recognised a Map DB to load. Took about 15 mins to "verify" the update, and then about another 20mins to install it. After that the Infotainment console rebooted itself and I know have a working Satnav again! Maps DB version in System Info showed 21.4. I've just left the November update USB stick in the car for an hour or so and map db version is now showing 23.12. Happy days! I thought my statnav db was dead - since my previous attempt at doing an update the satnav wouldn't start and System Info has been showing blanks for the Nav DB version. But thanks to you its working like a charm again. Cheers!
  40. Long story, Happy Fish Friday. My SKY Broadband is pathetic and always has been. I was paying £38 a month and getting nothing like the speed i should have. In January it went up to £43. This had me looking to switch, or get cheaper & each time i tried accepting Renewals cheaper the application failed. When i did get to speak to someone at SKY i got an upgrade to Full Fibre and a low price. This was on 10th January. Change over 14th February, new router here by the 31st January. Before the 31st Router Arrived. BT Outreach guy knocked the door saying was putting the cable to the back of house ready for 4th. On the 1st BT Outreach message me appointment back to 14th March. This week the pavements are dug up for Fiber Broadband and pipes run to edge of gardens. Weeks away or months from that FIBRE BROADBAND. So i am paying £43 still and crap speed and just the lower price would be fine. ....................................................... I GOT THROUGH TO SKY today. I got the perfect call handler unlike the one 2 weeks ago. ' Computer says just wait'. £20 Credited to my Account today. Compensation is £6 a day for every day late from the original 4th February. £42 a week to be paid to my account until the Fibre Broadband is on in my house. It can take for ever as far as i am concerned. LARRY. Happy as. PS. She told me today the Cable going into the house at the rear is Pole Work, but requires scaffolding to the rear of house to be connected. Even if so and it is the 14th March that is about 38 days at £6. £228 plus the £20 gesture today. EDIT PPS. As i found out today, The pavements are dug up and new repaired poorly for VIRGIN Full Fibre Broadband.
  41. Can you try and redirect it to the wireless charging cubby like Aperture’s job? p.s. love the house 👌🏻
  42. Smoke and lost power suggests an air leak between the turbo and engine inlet manifold. MAF fault occurs because less airflow is measured than the ECU expects. Smoke shouldn't be getting past the DPF though so there may other issues.
  43. Someone not giving you a price unless you place an order is an immediate red flag to me. Plenty of places will be able to fully price up the work for you and also break it into its component elements. Never commit to anything unless you’re making a fully-informed decision.
  44. Round town and short motorway journeys I got an average 32 mpg in the first month. 39 on a long run from south coast to Wales so a mix of motorway and small welsh roads.
  45. Further to my post above, I have a 16” steel rim with 205/55 tyre, it’s classed as a temporary spare as my road wheels are 205/55 17” - a different circumference. Looking in the wheel well, I reckon there is space for a slightly higher profile 205/60 16” . It’d be tight though. The toolkit insert fits fine under the boot floor no problem with the items I have. Part numbers are posted above.
  46. The 1.4tsi being discussed here has a standard VAG steel sump plug and a pressed steel sump. I'd be worried about the oversized sump plug they reportedly fitted. There's no such thing afaik. Sounds like an incompetent mechanic making matters worse. Negligence occured during servicing. Probably at the recent service. Just because it was leaking prior doesnt mean the sump threads were stripped. Highly unlikely and I cite my experience which had similar symptoms. The OP needs to speak directly to Skoda and threaten legal action. The correct solution now is to fit a new sump pan, at the cost of the dealer involved. Or reject the car for a full refund. https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/04e103602b-oil-pan-1-4tsi-skoda-31107.html
  47. Invite the dealer who carried out the service to cover this. If they decline, reamain calm and remind them that the small claims court procedure is pretty quick and cheap. No way should you be shelling out for this; the sump plug hasn't been touched since the service. More amusement follows if they try to say they didn't touch the sump plug when carrying out the service.
