  1. How is the oil level now when checked cold, does it look like maybe diluted with diesel? How many miles has it done, and did it get the Emissions Fix done sometime after started in 2017?
  2. If yours is a pre-facelift model, then using the ‘Set’ switch on the left is a quick way to the Stop/Start option. Also, dragging down from the top of the screen gives access to Favourites, these can be setup to include the Stop/Start options. For post-facelift cars I understand there are ‘programmable’ virtual buttons on the infotainment screen - this based on what I’ve read, never driven one so can’t confirm.
  3. That would fit best with the rest of the mileages shown.
  4. Spring is Chinese made as we know and just badged as Dacia but just goes to show how companies like Dongfeng, Hyundai, Leapmotors etc can lower their prices to equal tge European and UK EV subsidies due to the rapidly falling prices of batteries and particularly the cheapness of LFP EV batteries. Interesting choice of VW to go with LFP for the smaller batteried Polo ID. 37 kwh does sound small, I struggle sometimes to do the journeys down to South Wales from Worcester in the R5 with its 40 kwh battery. Though I would say my lad's Mini does not eat up its range as quick as the R5. Maybe 4 miles reducing for every 3 miles travelled in winter, rain, cold etc where the R5 is more like 3 miles gone for every 2 miles travelled. Hope the Polo ID is good on efficiency, not sure smaller battery version gets a heat pump even. ICE cars still have a place in colder climates where all that, 65% or so, "waste" heat if very useful for cabin heating. Same for Canada etc. Though Nirway has transitioned well of course. Gather Sodium batteries are better in the cold bur lithium has been getting better recently.
  5. Are you using Duracell batteries? I avoid these as the bitrex coating applied to stop kids eating them acts as an insulator and can prevent a good contact in some devices....
  6. Quantum change / Improvement is Europe UK cheapest car the Dacia Spring. Test drove a Spring 65 (hp) earlier this year, thinking it would be fine as a backup and local car for silly money, one could get a new one for about £11k. Dacia /Renault, in conjunction with Dongfeng the manufacturer, have done many improvements, all for a rise in the RRP of about £1k it seems. Spring 45 become Spring 70 and the old Spring 65 becomes the Spring 100 but as well as 50% more horsepower a whole host of other improvements which were needed ie roll bar, brakes as the one I drove felt very skitty. One thing have not heard about but needs doing was the front seats, just awful, people were ripping out seats from crashed corsa etc to fit in and replace the shockingly bad OE seats. Should further the EV transition and might try one just for interest though loving my R5 of course and only annoyed I only got the £1500 grant rather than the £3750 though apparently the R5+ in RHD is still a few months away so people are accepting the current R5 with only the lower grant to get in one sooner rather than wait for but one only gets it with the 52 kwh battery and not the 40 kwh battery version I have. It will come and the R5 will drop to below £20k but below that Dacia / Renault will have the Spring soon and then the Twingo EV which i sadly think will be squeezed by the R5+ and Spring 100 which is, again, not great for Europe and a victory for China which seems to be the norm now sadly.
  7. What @Alasdair1 above says, get it done plus tensioner and water pump which is accessible at the same time and is a consumable item anyway. With no history you've no way of knowing when it was last changed so it's a gamble at this point how much longer it'll last.
  8. I'm sure the many petrolheads on here will be following the Jaguar odyssey in the press and I wondered if your views have changed at all. Personally I figured if you were going to go down, you might as well go down swinging, so Jaguars "in for a penny" decision was not one without merit. Like many, I despaired at what seems a Lemming like attempt at suicide by Jaguar, as they abandoned ICE cars and went full 'white goods' mode. It only seems to have become worse with the recent revelation that Europe has decided that ICE cars can continue to be made for the foreseeable future, something that Jaguar can no longer do now, I suspect, having thrown away their babies with the bathwater. Many people have ranted about how Jaguar had made some great cars, how they had great heritage and we should still support them, but 99% of those people were "all talk and no trousers" (imho) and never actually put their hands in their pockets and bothered to buy a Jag! So this brings me to a piece published today on Autocar. Maybe....just maybe... Jaguar are on to something a little bit special? Steve Cropley intimates something on that note.

Yeah both filters were fitted and they aren't expensive anyway. No way will i change that oil every 80k I do starship miles 2023 L&K and its already done 113k
  10. Thanks, I’ll give that a try 👍🏻
  11. Just had my 'Warm home discount' £150 credited to my account by Eon Next. Soooper. & i have my 7 hours of 6.7 pence a kWh fixed till the end July. They are oh so kind. Sitting nicely in credit so reduced my DD to £110 after having upped it to £150. Sometimes Eon Next credit a bit more before spring. Maybe because there is still money in their kitty.
  12. Thank you, that confirms my suspicions that the car was set to fixed servicing, and that the oil change and inspection should show in same interval
  13. 1 point
When i asked Skoda Gloucester what was the DSG oil change intervals they said 80k - i was sure I read 40k ...then back up north i was told 40k so was happy with that. Ive since changed at 40k 80k and coming up to 120k where it will be done again. Must admit everytime I get it changed the transmission is defo smoother.
  14. The garage definitely set it to fixed service and not the long life you asked for. You are right that the oil and inspection are both set to the same after a long life service, in other words about 18.5k miles (30,000km).
  15. My 2020 1.5 tsi is on Longlife Service schedule which is 2years or 20,000 miles. I’m doing 16-18k miles a year and it’s happily running with 68k on the clock. Longlife oil is important, no, crucial. My last service was in February ’25 Screenshot from my Škoda app… I don’t have VCDS, though I assume it can be used to check/change settings - but make sure you have the correct oil before doing so. Also, I think the mileage element of the service due is variable, based on sensors in the engine. High stress/load then it might be shorter.
  16. Just an update, I had the car in with Skoda for the last 2 days. New battery fitted under warranty but the rigmarole I had to go through to get it sorted was barely worth it. But thankfully they did it so I can’t complain too much. The staff were nice to deal with but I get the feeling there isn’t much love for the Skoda HQ from their dealerships.
  17. Brand manufacturers or budget manufacturers.
  18. I will look again when the new ones are available but i think it will be just a petrol automatic i get.Plenty pre reg or very nearly new ones about for much cheapness compared to the RRP's. Even better bargains than small BEV,s.
  19. Software update now applied to car according to 90EE service campaign (taking all modules to PV4 baseline). All the errors which have been persistently appearing on start-up for the last two months have now cleared. Some other things I've noticed immediately are as 'hrk7' says - black screen on Carplay when adjusting climate, volume, etc. is resolved. I now get a "don't forget your mobile phone" reminder when leaving the car, which I've never had before (and I might now turn off!!). Small changes to instrument cluster display (lane assist and ACC icons have moved, speed limit roundel is clearer). Time will tell whether I now finally have a car with fit-for-purpose software...!
  20. Are you using 2025 cells - or are you trying to squeeze 2032s in? It's not unheard-of for even 'new' cells to be faulty.
  21. Owners in the UK have posted here that their 1.5TSI did not have the sound insulation, so maybe it's market related? Neither my 2015 1.4TSI nor my 2016 1.8TSI ha the sound insulation, so I added it to both. My understanding is that it is only fitted when needed to pass the drive-by noise tests.
  22. Anyway, I'm assuming this isn't some kind of "known issue" with the car and just something I need to figure out. Hopefully not too much trouble in the future (it's not like huge miles on it regardless). Unless garages literally won't take it or something.
  23. I've just been doing some digging and ringing places that the car had been at. August 2022: 12986 (Purchased) November 2024: 14431 (Service) ** Bought second car, expect mileage to significantly reduce, maybe expect 3k per year max as I WFH, and we've had two kids since having the car June 2024: 21165 (Service) December 2024: 35967 (MOT) October 2025: 30858 (Service) November 2025: 30977 (I noted it for car insurance) December 2025: 31550 (MOT) Looking at the history, I think it points at the December 2024 number being input wrong by the garage. At least, more than some glitch with the car... How frustrating as I guess this could impact future sale. EDIT: 35967 doesn't make sense though, 30967 would still be higher than almost a year later. Huh. Maybe it was 25967...
  24. In Red it look's the dogs danglies mate 😍

  26. Skoda Bristol said the sensor needed calibration - picking the car today hopefully this was final fix.
  27. Heko are definitely the best option - they fit well and are decent quality. I had a set on my Rapid and also on the Fabia. However, I replaced the ones on the Fabia recently with Ispeed ones (one of the Heko pieces got damaged). The iSpeed ones are not as well made and were a poor fit (despite being designed for the car). Had to trim edges to make them fit, which has never been necessary with Heko wind deflectors.
  28. Ah yes, my bad. Typo
  29. looks great although the lighting and photos look far higher quality than the first ones!
  30. I have Heko wind deflectors in mine, almost 8 yrs now. They're slim and sit inside the window channel, hence no ugly sticking on the door frame! They're also easy to remove if needed.
  31. Update: After a long hour that broke my back I managed to remove the rubber boots that got stuck on plugs 1 and 2, then I removed and inspect them and they seem ok (I have seen worse, I was so stressed that I didnt buy new ones because I just wanted to fix the mess I made). Then I bought new spark wires that cost about 75$. After replacing the 1 and 2 spark wires the car ran great and after a short drive I think it even fixed the original problem I had with it.
  32. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tiCGpdhN7Dk EV's being SORN ed and Diesels being restored to run again what is going on?
  33. I used to change my 1.9pd every 60k or 5 years (same as all my cars) although skoda have increased interval by a long way on some of I think newer cars. Personally I would change it at that mileage as you have no previous history. Not too bad a job on the 1.9tdi. I got a cheap kit on amazon to lock up camshaft etc and fitted a Gates kit including tensioner and water pump. Kit was around £65-00. There are from memory a few different ones depending on age and vin number. Alasdair
  34. with regards to connectors i used, i'll get that for u soon, but essentially i got them from AliExpress. with regards to the BCM pins, have a read here - its a discussion i started in another forum that goes through in great detail about the process i went through to determine the right BCM pin to use. in my case, i ended up using LB39 on the B-Connector. speaking of BCM - there r differences between MY16 and MY17 control modules!! MY15 and MY16 had the "early" setup. Skoda changed it from MY17, until MY20, when it changed again when the mk3 facelift Superb was released. for example, MY15 & MY16 has module 55-headlights for headlights & DRL stuff. MY17 onwards, this was moved to module 4C-multifunction module. no more module 55. BCM versions i believe r also different. as a result, there will b difference in coding (OBDEleven or VCDS). u can definitely use the 14-pin piggy-back plug that comes with the DRL light bar if u don't want to use the DRL dimming function. by default, the DRL light bar's 14-pin plug is wired to trigger (turn on) when the low beams r turned on, i.e. Pin No. 6. if u want, u can change it to Pin No. 10 or 12 so it triggers when the headlight DRL's r on. difference here is that it won't dim when the headlight DRLs dim. they'll just remain at full power. good luck with the install 👍
  35. Not quite VW want you to charge at fixed times, no on demand smart charging. No grid aware charging. Which is the whole point of low EV tariffs to let you use electricity when it’s in surplus wherever that is. Too complex for VW. I’ll be having a word with Octopus though since they’ve specifically leased me a car incompatible with the service they supply and the whole basis on which the car was leased .
  36. Then my conversation would have been along the lines of “here’s your car back”.
  37. Thanks for the responses - at the third time of checking, and being fobbed off as just one of those things with a DAB radio, my Skoda garage identified a break in the aerial embedded in the rear left hand side quarter glass. They have suggested that I complain to Skoda as the one year warranty they provided "doesn't cover glass", even though the glass is fine - it's the aerial that's broken. They are confident Skoda will sort it at no cost to me - we'll see!
  38. I don’t think so tbh. The mk1 has a better chance, as the original of the species, but even then I reckon only the WRC version will be really valued- only 100 of them, and check the register.. a lot are now bean tins.. Have to remember what these cars are to most people who know about them - VW’s reheated leftovers from old Golf GTI’s. I’m not slagging them off, I think they are great and just wish I could find a few in my budget to justify the change, but… they are most likely never going to get much traction (lol ) as a classic outside a very select few.
  39. I would not be pleased to need to resort to pulling fuses. Skoda would be getting emails to every level of management two’s email address I could identify. Over that last 15 years of Audi A3 and Passat estates I have never had this issue, and would consider it totally unacceptable.
  40. Sorry I thought I had replied but it doesn’t seem to have posted. I’m reading that modern cars have smart alternators and alter the output based on battery SOC and also engine load. So a lower output might not be of concern as if the battery is over 75% charged and the energy demand isn’t crazy the alternator might not put out over 14 volts charge. It might also what Breezy_Pete was mentioning.
  41. Forgot to add the pebble silver vs silver pic!
  42. Yes, several people, with knowledge of material sciences, and the gearbox specialist, all commented the same thing. They all said that carburizing (i believe that's the English term) failed and thats probably a manufacturing defect. No one happier than me :)
  43. I have removed my 19 fuse, for more than 1 hour and still dont have car connection to Internet. Worst is that I can only ativate the guest profile. So i dont have my profile configurations and FOD like ACC and others that I paid for... Unbalivable... Skoda assistance just have available date tô watch teh problem on 13th January 😭
  44. I think it was the Electric Vikjng who talked about the 35 degree belt and I just remembered it from him, he is an Aussie. A figure I remember from Vangelis Albedo 0.39 album and track is the 23 degrees 27 minutes etc and losing that 23.5 ish degrees from the zenith near the winter solstice as we are low certainly makes the sun very low in the sky abd in Worcester we are just over 52N latitude so add 23.5 degrees and we have the sun, at best, about 15 degrees above the horizon. Not too bad for me as I my solar tracking arrays dip right down to point at tge sun but roof top solar is going to be very poorly position probably. I think it was YouTuber "Just have a think" who quoted a study showing how bad solar xan be far from the equator in the winter time. We of course get much longer daylight hours in the summers than those between and close to the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. Still tuning my solar arrays and need to do quite a bit more tree surgery, especially of tge evergreen tree to improve my solar harvesting. A Nissan Ariya did pole to pole and used solar, those lightweight foldable panels which I also have. They did the journey summer in the northern hemisphere to summer in the southern semi of course. Not too far from the obliquity of the ecliptic zones is best and certainly more of struggle when one is more than twice that from the equator.
