  1. Glorious Moon this evening although blooming freezing 🥶 Best wishes to all for a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous 2026 👍 It's a smashing place 👍
  2. Problem solved !!! New wheel bearing with abs installed took off the stands started it up drove 4 yards and steering light off abs remained took topdon with me and abs off and diagnostic is reading steering angle sensor and abs sensors so now Christmas is over the dash decorations are off to 😆 Leopold72 try checking the alternator regulator wires as I had this code and replaced the reg and it didappeard
  3. I’m starting the spin out for people to discuss Linux (including myself..) Have at it here @Lee01 @Graham Butcher and @MikeTheThinker Leave me chuckle thread alone 🙃🤣🤣
  4. I've nothing against Ubuntu, if you're planning on getting into the more tech stuff like running servers, it's probably a better choice out of the box. Mint seems to be a more straightforward desktop OS, but it's all down to personal taste. It's all based on Debian, so either way there's no difference in what you can make it do, just how you get there.
  5. You still don't get it. ICE cars are poisoning our air in real time and the resultant climate change in leaving our kids and grandkids a legacy of having to spend much of their earnings fighting climate change. Not fair on them when we can do something about it.
  6. Far too many Click Bait videos now with people acting daft on purpose for their particular audience. I watch lots of Youtube videos but after several years of some of the clowns i do not click on to them. I would hate to even contribute a fraction of 1 pence towards their 'video work employment'. I linked enough of their vids back when to maybe assist in buying them a takeway drink.
  7. That Cornish halfwit, just like the other two, don't charge up at the places which are clearly better to charge up at but deliberately pick a very bad place. No time for such Tom Foolery.
  8. I haven’t watched them, I did watch TheMacMaster but I’ve got bored of him. Saw enough of Geoff on MacMaster to know I don’t want to watch him. I certainly don’t think it will be EV bashing as MacMaster is an EVangalist laughing all the way to his bank. I notice the EV carnage guy is also softening his stance. The fact is people are happily using electric cars with relatively little problems and those guys are slowly changing their perspective whilst trying to show they were right all along somehow.
  9. That one looks like Hardwick Hall just off the M1 near Chesterfield (I've done work there for the National Trust associated with when the M1 became a managed motorway and have been up on the roof before now). It's an impressive place and run by a great team. It and Chatsworth are a couple of our go-to places for a walk and an afternoon out.
  10. In UK we can also use the All-In service plan to get an extra two year’s warranty, services, two MOTs and breakdown cover. Can be purchased for cars up to 6yo and less than 100k miles - so potentially up to 8yr warranty. Need to check Ts & Cs for the full details of the warranty cover though.
  11. If that's your plan then go for it. It's a very simple and painless process from past experience but admittedly that was some time ago now since I last ran Linux. I have a 2017 Asus X555 (I think it is) that's now redundant but serviceable I was thinking of wiping the SSD and installing Linux on. Might be worthy of a topic in the Tech Shed for more input. By the way, I highly recommend upping your Vitamin D from around September when the days start getting shorter. I've done that for a couple of years now and IMO it definitely helps. Another tip is to ignore BST/ GMT clock changes. They always throw my circadian rhythm out of kilter. Not easy if you have fixed start times/ employed etc but I think we're both old enough now not to have to.

Hello - a new user to the forum from the UK currently living in Sweden. I've owned two Octavia's a 2011 back in the UK that I bought second hand, then a new mk3 in Sweden that I bought in 2018. I've started servicing myself recently and hopefully can learn a lot from you guys! Attached is a pic from a couple of years a go of my Octavia. It's a 1.0 TSI petrol with a 6-speed manual and has been unbelievably reliable.
  13. If ever there was an oxymoron... 🤣
  14. Thanks. No, the problem is she can't lift her leg over the passenger door sill of the Yeti (which is 420mm from the ground). A door sill which is, say, 360mm off the ground is just about OK. Hence the Leon or Corolla. A Jazz is close and my little Hyundai i10 is OK too I did detail this in the initial post of this thread. But that now seems a long way back.
  15. Can't help with your specific application. But I have a 2.0TSi FWD with DCC and factory towbar. I read elsewhere that factory towbar increased the rear springs stiffness from factory. But when I looked into what mine had fitted it was no different to cars without towbar. Edited to add. When towing a trailer with 80kg noseweight I tend to use the DCC in Sport.
  16. I have it as a PDF. Thanks. AG Falco
  17. We are still at well under 2 million BEV,s First Registered in the UK, seemingly thousands or tens of thousands brand new and never on the road, and then all the SORN etc. Loads of time to get the techs for PHEV,s & BEV,s really. I stay in a small town where there are 2 big dealerships with EV techs, then within 20 miles 3 towns with several dealerships selling and servicing ev.s. There are independents, then there is Dundee with more than a Dozen Dealerships selling & servicing EV.s. There are places all around. This is pretty much the same around much of Scotland where there are Main Dealerships. Parts, deliveries and waiting times, back orders are an issue. England needs the Government to get it's act together with Technical Colleges and training. The clock is ticking.
  18. There are training centres dotted all over the place, but this is coming way too late in the day. There are owners who have not had the use of their cars because they cannot find anyone willing to work on them, or they are still awaiting for the dealers to receive the required parts; even after some months, they are still waiting. Many have to pay for the training; many have openly told me personally that they want no part of the EV thing. They say that training will cost them personally, or that their employer will lose out in profits while their staff are away on training courses and some garage owners are not willing to take a chance on anything to do with EV cars because of the requirements placed upon them by Thatcham and insurance companies for storage, particularly if the cars have been in an accident or received some kind of damage to the battery compartment. They require that car is kept at least 15 metres away from anything else while waiting to be worked on, this means that where 100 ICE cars could be stored, only 6 electrics could be stored, thus pushing up their overheads and at the time massively reducing their turnover. To not follow that requirement could render them extremely vulnerable if one did suffer a battery fire and take out with numerous others. Here is the result of a quick Google search for EV training courses and the cost of this one is a minimum of £2,500 per person. EV Mechanic Training Centre – London Electric Centre
  19. Right, the good news. I've just been out to my Yeti and using the physical key the first unlock only unlocks that door, in my case the driver's door. The other doors and tailgate remained locked. If you then try and open any other door the alarm goes off! I then tried unlocking, re-locking and unlocking straight away, All the doors unlocked - I could hear the "bolts" click back and I physically checked they would open. This seems to reproduce what you have been experiencing and hopefully this says that all the expensive stuff inside the car is working as it should. Your post says 2009 Yeti. Do you have more than one key and if so do you have the same problem with both? For the sake of a few pounds I would replace the battery in both key fobs and see what happens before I started looking for anything more serious. If they still have the original batteries I'm not surprised they have stopped working, even the one that you might think of as the "spare". (I'm remembering problems I had with one of my laptops which wouldn't hold the correct date and time. Someone more technically minded told me to change the CMOS battery, a button battery costing about £2, which took five minutes and the problem was solved). Even if the key fob is flashing the battery may be so exhausted you don't get a clear signal from it. (This may sound like I know what I'm talking about; don't be fooled, I don't). Hopefully it's going to be a quick and cheap fix for you - a good way to start the New Year. Let us know how you get on.

There is no code on my car or in the handbook. I paid €3 to an ebay swiss vendor to get a 6 page pdf of all the codes associated with my VIN. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/226517872578

Hi and welcome, Plenty of knowledgeable people on these forums
  23. The fact remains Kodiaq L&K is no more in the UK.
  24. @lol-lol Nooo. The logical chose for a Business user like The MacMaster if they have home / cheap charging might be an EV. Or if Public Charging it is still making a saving thanks to HMRC / Tax Payers helping subsidise their Take Home Income. & drive a Prestige car still. That is one or 2 sets of the driving public, not everybody. Maybe someone can work out & compare the Lease, Maintenance, Insurance & Fuel for a Business User driving a Porsche 911 compared to a Porsche Taycan costing the same list price.
  25. There you go again, assuming. Well, you both could not be further from the truth if you tried. Firstly, it is NOT an EV bashing exercise, and in fact, it has NEVER been; they, like so many others, are against the removal of people's freedom of choice. GEEZ😒. In the case of the (your words) Cornish halfwit, he is not driving his own car, he is delivering a customers car who has certain expectations of when that car will be delivered. Not everyone is prepared to travel miles away to collect their own car, so he is naturally going to select the most obvious choice of route, that which should be the fastest possible route between A and B, then he can get to his next delivery quicker and earn more as a result. Again, not a difficult concept to grasp. If you want to drive an EV, then you should be free to do so; likewise, if you want petrol or diesel, then again, you should be free to do so. Just like the Betamax and VHS battles, the buying public decided that VHS suited their needs better than Betamax. Think about it sensibly; it is as simple as this: your choice of colour for your walls and woodwork in your house is up to you, and you can have any colour that you like, even down to having paint specially mixed to match the fur colour of your pet cat or dog, for example. Then the WEF, etc., decree that all walls and woodwork are to be purple, and once existing stocks of other colours are gone, that's it; you will have no further choice but purple. Would you be happy with that?
  26. Well done Steve and thank for the info detail on switching phones. You're a better man than I, farting about with cars at this time of the year. I'm not a fan of any type of phone in a car, when I was younger and even more silly than I am now in the 1980s I thought my mates car phone was clever but then when they became more popular, particularly with builders, wasted so much time saying "hello, can you hear me", "are you still there" was very annoying, things improved and now we're back to reception and phone issues, such is progress. Even when I had a handsfree kit, back at the start of the century, I keep the phone in the boot and not the holster as I wouldn't answer it if I was driving, I'm not and no one I know is that important. I have a mobile phone but it's rarely switched on and sits next to the landline phone anyway, and doesn't have Bluetooth, its 3G. 😄 ETA: I've just noticed a typo in a previous post of mine, I meant to put either a sarcastic smiley at the end or missed out the word not - "And instructions are always well written." I also meant to put as your Infotainment has the colour picture 'buttons' the I think (don't know) it might have the 'Owner's Manual' and Infotainment 'Operating Instructions' in the 'Car'(?) menu but how you read the instructions on the menu 'page(s)' and implement them on the Bluetooth/Phone 'page(s)' is beyond me. Perhaps you take photos of the instruction 'page(s) with your phone then not be able to see them because your phone battery dies or you can't see the screen in sunlight or daylight even . . . 😁 I'll be glad when this Xmas, New Year, January sales stuff is all over and I can get back to my normal level of grumpiness. One last thing, I'm guessing your Mk3 is a later one but if you want to you can add details of your car and location to your file that appears when someone presses the down arrow 'Author stats' top right of post. Cheers. Example -
  27. @StRaDiVaRiUs-PL add to choice list also Eibach Pro 11-79-013-01-RA and 11-85-016-10-HA which will be less sensitive to load changes as they are ~15% stiffer than OEMs first are perfect on 280ps AWD hatch (no towbar, no sunroof, no LPG tank, but with full diameter 205/60r17 spare wheel on alloy) -> https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/510961-2023-280ps-lk-replaced-2016-220ps-style/page/3/#findComment-5854160
  28. You'd need someone with access to the relevant database for original part number, then the database might be incorrect even if from car or pump manufacturer and possibly the original pump and/or its number might have been updated and/or alternative parts and numbers can be used through the life of the model and may or may not fit your car. What I mean is, as you are so continue to, take care when ordering parts. It's always been great 'fun' ordering parts but the likes of the German car marques have so many complications (because that is their way). I don't know but am a bit surprised your pump doesn't have a part number which I thought might suggest it's already a replacement but I could be totally wrong about that. Good luck.
  29. Watch some of his his other stuff he does some great fault diagnosis of batteries, modules, chargers, ecu’s etc etc
  30. Funnily enough my son is taking the Fabia on a skid pan in a few weeks so I will report back as to how they performed .
  31. Probably best to ask Phonostar, given it's their database.
  32. Forget those clowns Graham. Have a look at this guy, OGS Mechanics, doing some amazing repairs. If there is a truth about electric cars it is that there aren’t many people who know how and are qualified to repair them.
  33. The weight was added as a static mass, at the very rear of the car. According to the table, the equipment affects the springs used. I also see the "dog ****ting" effect, meaning the rear is normally lower than the front, but when loaded or a trailer is attached, it sits even lower. As for driving with a full load, say 500 kg, if four large men with heavy suitcases get in, the weight is distributed much more evenly, as about 400 kg is between the axles, which lowers the entire car, not just the rear.
  34. Well, all the turkey and mince pies have gone and I've managed to get off the sofa to have a go at connecting 2 mobiles to my Fabia Mk3. Following the advice given above by Nigel, I've managed to do it. It really was very simple, just add one phone and then add a second phone following the same procedure. My only query was how do I tell the system which phone I want to use to make a call if both phones are active. Looking closer at one of the screens displayed a button (circled in yellow in photo). Tapping this button activated my wife's phone allowing her to make a call. Thanks again Nigel Happy New Year Steve
  35. OK, just read most of the pump thread - that sounds like my issue 100% Once my Skoda dealership has diag'd it I'll submit my details and remedies Thanks
  36. Long timer lurker here not sure if I have read this thread before. Have been looking for the right 280 L&K for quite a few years nothing coming up, don’t want a sunroof or massive alloys, estate or hatch fine no white or black and maybe the chocolate brown not my colours. Sportline is a no because of the seat. Own a superb 2 170 combi TDI and Fabia vRS mk1 second one now. Also owned a MK2 TDI octy for over 10 years. If anyone is considering moving on please get in touch, to keep it in the Brisky family.
  37. Thanks for that. Im trying to buy a used part . The dealer wanted over £200 for a auxiliary pump and ive seen one at £35 but need to see if numbers match .
  38. A couple from the magnificent Hardwick Hall yesterday........... What's going on with the Table design 😳🤔 The chapel roof ↙️
  39. The EA888 isn't a very sonorous engine in any spec but the Octavia RS sports exhaust is pretty good. It has a decent bass but noise regs mean nothing is that great anymore. The GTI won't be any better instead it has artificial sound piped into the cabin like the old Mark 4 Octavia. I prefer the natural sound. There are some pops in the engine map in Sport mode. As for size, it is built on a lengthened platform with a longer wheelbase. I find it fine but if you don't need the size then maybe a Cupra Leon hatch would be a better choice.
  40. George, I have no idea why you are so bitter about people claiming work expenses, it's fair that if my employer requires me to make a journey in my own car which I would not otherwise make that they compensate me for the wear and tear, the depreciation and the fuel. If you do one charge then the saving covers the cost of the monthly sub. Obviously they need to be in places you are travelling. If they are not then they are as much use as a handbrake on a canoe. 5 years ago cars were only just starting to appear that could charge over 100 kW and the chargers at that speed were like hen's teeth.
  41. Today I fitted an AliExpress reversing camera. All in all not too bad to fit. Just some awkward trim panels and cable routes. Had to hard reset the radio for it to recognise it but working nicely now. And for only £36 vs £770 that Richter advertise it for.
  42. The mod that removes the “warning workshop only shift to P” error. It’s a dodgy switch on the top of the dsg that you can retrofit to the top of the shifter housing under the trim. There’s a genuine vag part for it but I got a copy from Ali express for a quarter of the price.
  43. Admittedly this is rather off topic. The boring stats are as follows: Mitsubishi Space Runner 172K miles (from new) 1995 to 2004 - cost 5p per mile maintenance Mazda Premacy 160K (ex demo 6 months old) 2004 to 2013 7 p per mile maintenance VW Touran 108K from new 2013 -2024 9 p per mile maintenance Skoda Karoq from 1100 miles (used 6 months old) 2024 - current 2p per mile maintenance. Fiat Punto 30K miles from 9,000 miles (Used 1 yr ) 1998 - 2016 11p per mile maintenance Skoda Fabia 20K miles from 900 miles (used 1 yr old) 2016 - current 23p per mile maintenance Interestingly it is the low mileage cars that have the higher cost per mile, the 3 high mileage vehicles cost per mile when allowing for inflation is probably very similar.
  44. Buy the orinigal,is CHAMPION as the spark plugs.
  45. Steve, that type of 'Owner's Manual' I find a right PITA but there might be a version of it in the car's Infotainment menu but how can you be in two different menus at once to follow and do the instructions, AFAIK you can't, same with doing stuff on other computers, such is "progress"! I prefer the paper printed version as you don't need a computer, wi-fi connection a battery and can see the pages in daylight even in very bright sunlight - but you have a 2021 car so you have lots of other "improvements", "assists" and "aids" which you just have to get used to or switch off as many of them as you can (every journey for some). Personally I've always found phones in cars to be a distraction, often for the driver even if it's hands-free. When I had a hands-free kit at the start of this century I kept the phone in the boot when I was driving. 😁 All being well for one phone this should be a one mug of tea (and perhaps pee) operation but don't start if you're not in the right mood if you even look at any of the computers wrong they'll make you suffer.
  46. I've just had a look on the VWŠkoda 'Owner's Manual' site and your car being a 2021 it has the online version rather than a downloadable pdf version. I assume (always dangerous) you get a paper printed version with the car that you can look at too. Otherwise you can take a laptop or tablet to the car (subject to wi-fi reach and items battery remaining) and work off that. Do one phone at a time to save complicating things. Your unit is 'Infotainment Amundsen' so we have a start. VWŠkoda site for their free 'Owner's Manuals'. - https://www.skoda-auto.com/apps/manuals/Models In the 'Owner's Manual' click on 'Infotainment Amundsen' section and then click on the 'Telephone' section (under/in the 'Infotainment Amundsen' section) then click on and read the 'Conditions for connecting a telephone with Infotainment' and see how you go from there. Remember when doing anything electrical on the car do make sure the 12v car battery is in a good state of charge, run the engine if needed, also make sure the phone(s) has a good state of charge and the Bluetooth is enabled and working on the Infotainment and phone(s). Other members will know a lot more than me about modern "smart" (they're not) phones and the various versions and what's required with them to get them working in the car. Let us know how you get on.
  47. You have my sympathy on both. Thanks for that Steve, a SpecSavers special. 😁 Well you have eight real buttons (thank gawd for you) and top right one is for TwatNav so it's the full fat unit called summat like Amsdum IIRC, colourful virtual(?) Telephone button so hopefully things are there to work. I'm extremely lucky as I don't own a so-called "smart" (they're not) phone so I'll make a pot of tea and hopefully look at the 2021 instructions and return hopefully with some info (perhaps), in a bit.

I had a 2012 Octavia vRS CR DSG for 13 years and changed to a 2.0 Sportline in March of this year. No regrets. Octavia was better on fuel and handling. For everything else the Karoq wins hands down. Saying that the Octavia was better on handling needs a bit of clarification - having lower and stiffer suspension there was less body roll. The Karoq has more roll but I've never felt unsafe in it. I don't have DCC so that might make a difference. In the Karoq I've never thought - I wish I was in my old Octavia for a bit more performance.

I have the 2.0 TSI 4x4 DSG, how it compares to an Octavia VRS I can’t say as I’ve not driven the VRS. However I don’t think you will disappointed especially in Sport mode! To go back to the 1.5 TSI engine, yes it did have issues, yes they have improved, have the problems been completely solved - not entirely, and are much more noticeable with the manual gearbox, so the DSG is the better option. However the 1.5 TSI DSG is 2wd and prone to front wheel spin when pulling out of junctions. I don’t think the 1.5 TSI is available, in the UK at least, as a 4x4. In 10,000 miles in my 2.0 TSI I’ve not encountered front wheelspin when pulling away, even at damp junctions, where my 2.0 TDI DSG 2wd Touran would spin and traction control would cut in. The 1.5 TSI uses the dry clutch DQ 200 DSG, the 2.0 TSI uses the wet clutch DQ 381. The road holding and grip of the 2.0 TSI is excellent. The rear suspension on the 4x4 Karoqs is the VAG multilink setup ad used on the VW Touran, Passat and probably Octavia and Superb. The 2wd Karoqs use a torsion beam rear suspension.
