  1. Hello all 👋 I’m new to Skoda but I’ve had many many cars over the years. My dad however has had many Skodas (and other VAG cars) in recent years and loves them. I am an engineer and have a huge interest and a small collection of classic Japanese cars and modified cars in general, but recently my commute has increased and I needed a cheap and (hopefully) reliable car that does good mpg. While searching Facebook Marketplace 2 1/2 weeks ago I found a 2010 Fabia 1.6tdi Elegance Estate with a recently lapsed MOT, 173k and full of mud/dog/horse, up for £500! I went and had a look and found a few jobs needed for the MOT but nothing obviously awful and it looked pretty tidy under the mud, so I chucked him an offer of £350 and he took it!! 😁👌 In the last few weeks I have been cleaning it up and prepping it for its MOT, and I may have been adding a few mods, because why not 😉 so hopefully in the next week or so it will be on the road. 🤞 So the plan is to keep this pretty cheap while making it my own and keeping my fuel costs down. I can’t leave anything alone so I will make excuses to have a play with it 😁 So here is my cars story from the beginning……….. Pics from the advert:
  2. Thank you I'm so touched. I just want to thank my producers, the crews and the writers for this amazing opportunity. To be nominated and receive this award is truly amazing. Nobody's ever been awarded this truly great prize before. I'm the first can ya believe that?! I know it's truly amazing so thanks. The 2020 Quashqai wasn't so great.
  3. After buying the car we trailered it to my mates unit where I gave it its first going over. 😁
  4. Absolute bargain by the look of it - you can't beat the bangernomics economy (not that this looks like a banger) 👍 Gaz
  5. May I suggest you have a read of the rules that you agreed to when you joined. https://www.briskoda.net/forums/guidelines/ Of course a reply to a 11yr old thread would bump it back to the top. The action taken was actually quite tame, 18 pointless posts simply to boost your post count would usually have won you an instant ban (as a spammer)
  6. I wouldn’t say it’s draconian at all. I’d argue it’s a pretty kind and understanding response to a clear lack of common sense. I’m sure many people on here haven’t read the T&Cs, but they’ve got on just fine over the years… As has been suggested, if you need to get your count up, at least make an effort to use words. I’ve only been on the forum under this account for a year or so. Everyone is very friendly and the site is well run, maintained and populated. As with all communities though, if someone comes in and starts being silly, the response will be appropriate. If you were sat in a group and needed to make five contributions in order to ask a question, if you put your hand up and down five times in a row, surely the response would be similar to this? The twenty post count is to protect members from spam, and keep the community thriving. Think more of twenty contributions, rather than comments. Also, the member you tagged hasn’t been online since 2025.
  7. Looks better than new. Mine was the same although I admit I just oiled and moved it till everything was moving freely then added some copper grease as I had a tin handy. Nice tidy job Alasdair
  8. ok, could be a broken wire while refitting the harness?, or a ground in the b pillar, in order to se that you need to remove te b-pillar trim cover in the car, is very easy just some metal clip tht have to be pulled, i'm currentlly looking at the wiring diagram, the common things are that: they all work via lin-bus and are routed to the bcm, the power come from the fusebox, and that they comunicate via the clockspring; so no power issue from the fusebox easy check whit a multimeter, lin-bus issiue a good look at the door wiring loom and for the clockspring a scan via a software like vcds. also all the plug inside the door are connected propperly? the door handle is quite hard to reach maybe some wire got damaged. To fully test the door wiring harness use the mutineer in continuity test between all the pin in the various plug
  9. That’s exactly what I need right now, something cheap to buy and run, reliable, useful and a little bit funky! (That’s where the mods come in as you will see later 😁😂). I’m not very good at owning a stock standard “normal” car! 😂. I just hope there’s nothing lurking when I start to drive it properly!! 🤞

This is a 3-cylinder motor and, consequently, a mite 'lumpy' at tick-over - but it should otherwise be quite quiet and definitely not sound "like a bag of spanners". And the oil consumption SHOULD be low. My 2023 Fabia Owner's Manual says "...the engine may consume up to 0.5l/1000km. Consumption may be higher over the first 5000km". 0.5l/1000km equates to 1.0 litre per 1240 miles - that's a lot of oil and a modern car that's covered 7000 miles in 3 years should be fully run-in and not be using anywhere near that amount. If the cam-belt had 'jumped', I would have thought this would have been very noticeable where the motor's behaviour and the car's performance were concerned. As this is a 3rd-hand enquiry ("Not my car - a friend’s asked about his colleague’s Audi A1 with this engine") the sensible thing would be to advise the Audi's owner to have the car inspected by an Audi dealership while it is (apparently) still under warranty and before a major failure occurs.
  11. Tbh it seems to sound ok. No horrible noises yet but I’ve only driven it up the lane and back so far! I went through the paperwork when I got home and found it had a full service history with stamps every year from 2011 to 2024, then the last owner serviced it himself last year! I was also told that most of its miles were motorway miles so that’s been a little easier on it!! I’ll update with more pics of my progress when this forum allows me to post more than one at a time lol 😂
  12. Hello, welcome to the forum. Looks pretty damn good externally. How does the engine sound?
  13. Same, only drive it home. I ordered a pcv valve and walnut blasting kit
  14. OK, this is now fixed. However, it is a perk of being a FULL MEMBER. Not a 'Find my way'. There is a minimum of 49 posts which are required to enable this setting. Also, FREEDOM gets this perk too along with other increased profile settings. A word of warning; any images attached to older posts will be deleted and break the flow of the topic. So, be mindful what you're deleting.
  15. @Dean Could you check is this a glitch? Gould have the check box lower right Of each attachment frame
  16. Check they coded/cloned the new ECU/BCM and check fuses/relays for wipers/indicators etc. As said get a VCDS full scan done. It may ping something up that explains the fault. Modern cars are a nightmare. I spent about two hours working out why my wipers werent working on a Seat altea and finally discovered they are disabled with bonnet open for some weird reason. Alasdair
  17. The Winter came so what's better chance to make a Fuel Consumption test now that i have new radiator and new coolant? City driving which means too much traffic, short routes in low speed etc the worst scenario for bad Mpg. 95962 Km in the Odometer and at the day of measurement was 96994 Km so the distance was 1032 Km (1031,4 in the trip meter) According to the TC-6 the Total consumption (Σ) was 100,4 ltr so the Average fuel consumption was 9,72 ltr/100 Km (29.06 British MPG) which is a fantastic result for City traffic for this old design engine ! 🤩 The Average Ø indication on the TC-6 was 10 ltr which is very close. The next test was few kilometres in City traffic, then in Highway (till 110 km speed only) and Mountain roads with 2 persons and some luggage, the weather was cold in the beginning some rain afterwards and sun with clouds in the end. First of all sorry about the dust, we had many rainy days here and no time for car wash, the traffic was a bit heavy sometimes and later in Mountain roads i didn't push the engine more than 4000 rpm due to rain. 97187 at the end of the travel (224 distance in the Trip meter) According to the TC-6 the Total consumption (Σ) was 13,9 ltr so the Average fuel consumption was 6,20 ltr/100 Km (45.56 British MPG) a very good result. The Average Ø indication on the TC-6 was 6,2 ltr which is identical.
  18. Don't see any check boxes
  19. I meant the control unit in the door thats part of window motor. If its from a different car it may not be able to communicate with new BCM. I assume the BCM was coded to match ECU/clocks etc. Reckon a good scan with VCDS is in order. You could spend days trying to locate a fault. Alasdair
  20. if it’s still on the original battery then it’s time to change You’ve already got vcds so you can “code” the new battery in Years ago I had an old Passat B5.5 an alarm would trigger on that and VCDS had a log to see what caused it, as yours is empty it’s likely the battery
  21. Fitted D3S LED headlights, legality is questionable but going for a drive later and hopefully all good with no possibility of dazzling people Don’t think it will as they are annoyingly low but not the broken low as the light dance happens and both raises Belts and braces I might go to a garage and get alignment checked and see if they can be upped a little if needed
  22. I did it manly to protect glasses. But as it’s returned up the front edge too it should prevent rattles. Mine is a diesel so everything vibrates and rattles at certain rpm’s. I just turn the music louder!
  23. Was the door in question the driver's door? If so, take a close look at the wiring harness from the B pillar to the door to check for broken or shorting cables or plug/socket pairs not making good contact.
  24. Its done 74000, DSG was serviced at 35k and 60k - which was when I bought it. The noise sounds like it is coming from the front drivers side area. It cant be heard under the bonnet but can be heard in the cabin.
  25. 1 point
I suspect this A1 has been sadly neglected - 1 litre of oil to bring level to minimum mark! SWMBO's Fabia with almost exact same engine (CHZC) at uses practically zero oil between annual services, currently at 25K miles.
  26. Apologies. Its a TDI with DSG gearbox.

Service History would be interesting to be told. Who owned it or it was registered to would be interesting. Some actual information. I assume it was not a car Motability owned and sold. So when was this low mileage car serviced last? PS. Is the Warranty valid by the Servicing that was done? Has the car not had a Low oil or Low Oil pressure warning light or message showing?
  28. Skoda Mk3 & Mk4 Fabia from 2021 to present are available with 1.0 MPI engines.
  29. Thanks for the reply and no I'd not seen what you have posted in the link. We are away for a few days but I'll try this when I get back. Thanks again!
  30. Updated perfectly on my Audi A4 B9 Top work lads.
  31. Slide off the 2-pin connector, deep-drive socket (I think it was maybe 22mm?) to slacken the switch then keep unscrewing 'till it's out. There's no extendable pouring spout incorporated into the top of the new bottles so I borrowed one from an old oil bottle....it screwed in fine.
  32. Software version wise, mine is:- SW: 5Q0 959 760 C H09 0024 HW: 5Q0 959 760 C Pics of the module under the driver's seat.....
  33. Congratulations @Lee01 ! You win…… nothing 🤣 have a shiny trophy emoji 🏆
  34. Unbelievably the first guess by @Lee01 was spot on!! It's a 1.4 Qashqai automatic in gloss primer grey with dinky grey wheels. Reasonable inside but being a 74 plate it was binging and bongong all the time until two of us worked out how to turn it all off. After that it's been OK if rather jerky setting off from stationary. It'll do the job for a couple of days...
  35. So, rather than pi55 people off by making non posts on ancient threads to get your count up, go back to the hello section and say hi to some fellow new members. Or float over to the social zones where you chit chat about life the universe and the number 42 until you get you pm access enabled.
  36. Bought mine for £3.99 of eBay. Perfect fit and it’s exactly the same as the AA branded one at £29.99 (or there abouts!)…
  37. Yes, I have. I had exactly the same issue, starting a few ago, except it managed to get 3/4 of the way through the arc. Bloody annoying. I fixed it by raising the blade, switched on the ignition and left it running for an hour whilst I washed the wheels. Yeah, I know, but they were filthy! I think the contacts in the motor had become contaminated/dirty given lack of use and running it for a decent period did the trick. Worth a try anyway.
  38. I tried organising a big vRS meet last year. We ended up with well over 150 people in the WhatsApp community, all for it to fizzle out into nothing. East Mids is a litle far, but if you're ever nearer to Southern civilisation, I could maybe round up a few fast Skodas, and @travs container ship :)
  39. Just been looking over the files transferred to my new PC and came across this! It's the Red Bull Driftbrothers M4 - taken at Goodwood FoS at some point in the last few years.
  40. What a shame you don't have any phone signal tomorrow
  41. No mention of any wiper cleverness in the owner manual. Other that the "automatic" rear wipe (configurable in settings) and the "service" position.
  42. Thanks all, I stand corrected.
  43. Ooh - you've just reminded me I was going to try and resurrect an old laptop and a couple of EeePC 901's using a light version of Linux...
  44. Which is why I suggested that a MPI might be best choice.
  45. EGR - on all cars, not true.
  46. Yep, vintage 2013 V10 map so updating to V17 will get you half way to current roads! Still worth doing. Bear in mind that can be problems installing maps from non-genuine DVD. The disc you are looking at buying will be a copy burnt onto a dual layer recordable disc, consensus seems to be dirty / old laser lens struggles to read the second layer of these discs. Had previously done 3 or 4 upgrades without problem, but my last upgrade initially failed (leaving me with no map on hard drive :-( Had to use a cd lens cleaner before it would successfully read whole disc and install on hard drive
  47. Yes, it's caused by the battery voltage dropping too low, you need to recharge the battery overnight.
  48. Yes the Evolution spec is ok but would not want to do a hundred mike plus and the smaller battery in mine makes it a hour and maybe but all one would ve happy to spend in it but then I have the Scenic which I am happy to do long journeys in. Cheap-ish price or monthly. Notably smaller than my Zoe. I could have a base model Megane etech for similar money to a 52 kwh R5 etech, much more hp and range but happy with Evolution 40 kwh R5. I have added aftermarket cup holders and centre arm rest to make it more practical.
