I would be inclined to get it scanned to see what if anything major caused it. It should have stored a code. On my older diesels limp mode seems to just reduce power to engine and limits revs. Engine sounds and runs ok but if you go any higher than 2nd gear it doesnt have the power as they seem to be limited to about 1800rpm. Same in my sons petrol fabia. Too me a long time to get home the last time. The shaking of the engine could be a number of things so get it scannned. Alasdair
  2. A glorious morning............
  3. Having removed the bumper and resealed all the joints it was disappointing to find the boot still leaking. Finally i bought a roll of 50mm wide PVC tape and sealed around the offside rear light fitting. Bingo the water has stopped coming in. I have now orered a new seal for the light fitting and when it stops raining will fit it, but I am enjoying a dry car. Thank you to everyone for the advice.
  4. Greetings and thank you for having me. I am a lapsed Skoda owner, I bought a 2006 VRS tdi in 2007. I changed jobs in 2008 and the Tdi really didn't enjoy the shorter commute, cou[led with the fact the car was on a pcp I decided to sell it and buy a petrol Volvo V70 T5 manual. This T5 was replaced with a later 2.4T5 manual (a truly fabulous car) which I have kept for 12 years. High V.E.D was one of the reasons I decided to change and after much searching I decided on a MK3 Octavia VRS tsi manual estate. I'm going to look at one tomorrow in Peterborough. I apologise for the long winded intro.☺️
  5. Mine recently went off also after there was an OTA update for the OCU module. The update seemed to change the settings from manual back to auto. In auto with the driving profile on normal, I have no lighting & must choose sorry to have red or eco to have green. I changed the setting back to manual and now it's working again
  6. Thanks Max, it was a pleasure meeting and doing business with you, and thanks for the coffee ☕️
  7. Hi Warrior, thanks for your reply and your welcome :) The one on the other side which is the circular one moves a bit but not as much. The Fabia is a left-hand drive by the way. My feeling is also that it is a bit too much, and if the car is in gear, a creaking noise comes from the gearbox as I rock the car back and forth. When pulling of or rolling on and off of the accelerator at low speeds there comes also a creaking noise from that area of the gear box near the mount.
  8. If you don't have a multimeter, can your charger read voltage while it's not charging? If so, leave it clamped to battery terminals while not charging and get someone to crank the engine over on the starter - voltage falling below around 10 volts indicates failing battery. A decent multimeter need not be expensive and is a very useful item for the toolbox.
  9. Ah, just spotted the empty 3 positions in front of contacts 5, 6, 7 making it potentially a 10-way connector. Was scratching my head til then. Everything seems to correspond colour-wise.
  10. I assumed all newer petrols had them as when I was looking for a purge valve for my sons mk1 1.2 and egr valves came up which surprised me also. (although that was autodoc so maybe only fitted in europe?) Going to have to look tomorrow when its light and warmer
  11. OE, Bosch or NGK. The part number for OE should be 06Q905601A. These are VW stamped but made by NGK. I use genuine OE from www.skoda-parts.com They’re not much more expensive than OEM NGK here.
  12. After 3 octavia estates the last being a 23 vrs Iv hybrid I have taken the leap into a 24 enyaq 50 edition
  13. I use carscanner app and this reader which works well for reading and clearing all codes on my Superb. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06XGB4873?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share Make sure the battery is well Charged. Low voltage can give all Sorts of errors. If not it may be that there is a sensor failed. Using the code reader would tell you which.
  14. I have had a 2019 VRS 245 for 3 years and it runs fine on BOS0241245673. The car is tuned to 300bhp and the plugs have handled that ok.
  15. No, you shouldn't be able to turn that cog, the motor shaft has a worm gear on it, and those don't work 'backwards'. Have you checked wiring at passenger side A-pillar bellows? A power wire that's almost but not quite parted may be able to click a relay but not start the motor spinning. Will look at wiring info shortly,
  16. Not sure but definitly go for petrol not Diesel. My old 1.6tdi is struggling these days as I stopped long runs and now have to take it out about once a week for a good blast down the dual carriage way to get it to regen. Had an old volvo petrol that was fine for 3-5 mile trips for years but engine oil tended to get a bit emulsified after a while due to it never reaching full temp especially in winter. You could always as I do take it out for a longer run every week and as said a good blast down the dual carriageway wouldnt do any harm. I think that engine may have a GPF so may need a longer run to keep it clean and the same goes for the EGR. Alasdair
  17. I use NGK in everything from strimmer/chainsaws to cars without any problems and have been using them for years. NGK have a plug finder https://www.ngkpartfinder.co.uk/catalogues/cars/search/spark-plugs/ I personally avoid others especially unknown brands. Alasdair
  18. For mine i see also other recall. I will check tomorrow with dealer what is about.
  19. Also be very aware of and take precautions against static electricity discharge.
  20. That looks like a California Bay - although I don't think the climate is warm/dry enough for those over here.
  21. Assuming this chap in this video is correct, and this refers to Mk3, Mk4 owns may be able to say if it still applies, if enough use and miles has been put on the Mk4 to tell, 'Skoda Fabia 1.0 MPI clutch problems' - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vYzC6SYcEI [ETA: note, I am not a VW fan - personally I'd also not say it would be the only common Mk3 problem but that depends on how you quantify "common"] 'Skoda Fabia MK3 recommended gear nonsense for 1.0 MPI' [in my opinion, and others, this applies to all engines and gearbox combinations]. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQ3Re6brBk4 HTH.
  22. Absolutely no issues with either of our two Mk3 gearboxes (2015 & 2018 M6/MQ250?) - predominant use of both vehicles is relatively short trips. Both still on original clutches.
  23. Hi, We have just been through this - again. The second BCM or wiper relais failure since my daughter got the car. I desoldered the relay with a hot air soldering machine which was o.k. Unfortunately I was a little generous with the solder and created a short on the board under the relay. So I got a second hand BCM. You have to make sure you order the correct PN. They are 6Q0..., 6Q1... and 6Q2... As Pete said you probably will have to code the replacement unit as the trim level will be slightly different.
  24. I agree plus I wait for at least 30min before touching them. Mate was very lucky he wasnt hurt when trying to remove one in his steering wheel. He was under dash at the time but if had been in seat would have been a different outcome. Alasdair

    Hi Matias95 and welcome.

I replaced the flexi pipe on a BXW engine and you can by a clamp in pipe. Works as well as welding.
  27. Have a look in the Fabia Mk4 forum, or ask, Derek and others are very informative. Another manufacturer but on AutoTrader only I've seen a couple of pre-registered 2025 (25 plate cars) last one with 10 miles on it.
  28. Putting a lower powered 1.0 three cylinder non-turbo, or turbo'd engine into even larger and heavier vehicles certainly wont extended the engine's potential for longevity and whilst it will be OPK for short trips very noticeable carrying a family of four about on longer trips if you are one that likes to get their foot down a bit. My wife is looking to replace the Fabia, she lost confidence in it many moons back, surprising to many here I would sooner she kept it longer, to get some return on the money spent on it sorting out its issues, but there are plenty of good used alternatives about (with much longer warranties than VW give) just that everyone wants them so prices are high for them, but then the Fabia remains overvalued too. Another option is to buy an older car with simpler stuff on the engine and none or far less of the electronic entertainments and "assists" and "aids" to go wrong fitted to the car. Perhaps an old petrol Octavia or even older diesel Octavia without DPF if they existed or another manufacturer's model without DPF. TSI is direct injection and known to carbon up but to be fair my wife's 2015, 1.2 TSI (90PS) 4-cylinder engine that so far averages around 7k-miles a year with many journeys of 2 miles still goes well but I have not looked inside to see what the carbon situation is. Last couple of years she has got into the habit of occasionally filling the petrol tank with a higher octane fuel just to get the extra cleaning additive package the higher octane petrol contains - and of course the engine gets regular servicing - good quality engine oil and filter, engine air filter and spark plugs. Good luck.
  29. Taken off thrower, slight score mark present. The abs sensor has a raised black disc facing driveshaft like for a date mark, that has worn down. Abs sensor works with the wired connector. I think my pinning the electrical wires didn't get them 'fully home' Going for the crimp connectors and silicone and cover wires in heat shrink.
  30. Meant to add you could try turning airbag off via the switch in glovebox if the MK1 has one. Mine is off on the MK2 and passed MOT ok. Alasdair
  31. Have to eat my words..... 12 new Gridserve chargers at Magor !!!! About time and if course expensive Gridserve provider. Will still use the Ionity ones over the road if just charging and Subway open. Ionity have six more bases ready to put on charger towers on. Nice chat with etron guy a few weeks ago. Wow was he getting a mega Salary Sacrific deal ue about £500 less monthly payments than otherwise !!
  32. Think the wiring for passenger airbag is behind glovebox. Yellow if I remember. The connectors are usually good but check the wiring there. You could try and reset and see as sometimes its a random blip. Alasdair

Remembered the company I got mine from. They may be able to help. eBayItems for sale by everyexhaustpartlimited | eBayShop eBay for great deals from everyexhaustpartlimited!
  34. I use our 1.5 TSi for mostly short trips (less than 20 miles). It's OK so far at 1 year and 3.5k miles. It get 2-3 long (200mile) trips a year.
  35. First decent sunset in a while this evening........
  36. The green machine hit this today. 2012 Fabia Scout Pic from 19th of February
  37. That's the conclusion eventually I came to. The simpler the better... That was me in the past 3 years, killed a perfectly operational TDi to the state of uneconomical repair. As I understand, TSI is not THAT bad, still, I am wary touching anything with turbo in it. Electric is still literally miles away to be a practical choice imho in the countryside/expensive move if you run limited miles.
  38. [SOLVED] Yep, did open that cabling boot - although officially called grommet (wrong word) and I obviously found what expected. Right side License Plate light wires both snapper and several others - including two large ones (I suppose for the electrical lock). Insulated them all first, then added a 5-6cm long extension and re-soldered the light wires - all works fine now.
  39. The first and second is normal dipped, but first is on my drive which is odd camber Here’s a rough comparison Xenon Original Xenarc Xenon Osram NBL +200 LED For the E marking it looks like it’s only for interference but tbh it all gets a bit confusing, for MOT wise it’ll be fine due to a bit of a loop hole No dazzling at all and not stupidly bright, does go a little further which is what I wanted and better light colour for my eyes Driving next to other cars with legit LEDs there’s is still brighter and higher Note these are just taking from an iPhone, no matched settings or anything so not true reflection of real life

No idea why the manual says this - bit of a waste of time. Just boot it a few times, and it'll do what needs to be done. I can tell when my vRS regens. It'll be, as @Warrior193 has said, on a closed throttle overrun. In other words, shortly after I've put my foot down, I'll come off the gas (usually on a slip road or the like) and the car will hold the high revs for a few seconds. That's what the manual is trying to get you to do - high rpm (S mode) and overrun (lifting off). FWIW, a GPF is totally different to a DPF. A DPF needs the high temperatures of constant driving to remain clear. With the exhaust being hotter and higher velocity, petrol cars don't need to be taken specially for a regen drive. It's just not needed. Certainly, a GPF has nothing to do with shaking in limp mode (it would also tell you if the limp mode is to do with the emissions system).
  41. Sorry, Lot of Work, tomorrow please
  42. Just been looking over the files transferred to my new PC and came across this! It's the Red Bull Driftbrothers M4 - taken at Goodwood FoS at some point in the last few years.
  43. Another thing that can apparently make a nasty noise is wear to the HPFP's cam follower. At your mileage I guess that may be a candidate.
  44. I read with vcds it can tell what degree the chain has stretched. Ai says VCDS checks a timing chain by reading the "Camshaft Adaptation Intake Bank 1" value in the engine control module to measure chain stretch in degrees of crankshaft rotation. For TSI engines, this is usually found in Measuring Block 93 (or Advanced Measuring Values), where a value approaching -5° or more indicates significant stretching requiring service A bit above my tech but maybe a VAG specialist or someone near you with vcds could scan it or you. Alasdair
  45. A few from today. Thought the Great Tit was being optimistic!
  46. New shoes fitted 😃 …
  47. Bumped to an earlier crossing because of the weather so 3am start. No cafe open on the boat so no breakie! Weather remains wet and windy so not bothered yet with the camera. Took a few snaps with the camera phone instead and butchered the images in Lightroom.
  48. I don't see depreciation as much different from the equivalent ICEs unless you're comparing Chinese EVs with Euro ICEs

I just bought the 2024 MPI (non turbo) Fabia. Expected MPG obviously depends on driving style and how much extra urban and at what speed you drive it, but my driving is almost entirely on the A69 from Brampton area to Newcastle a couple of times a week. I am driving it at 55-60 miles an hour, partly because it is very new (750 miles now) and I am running it in, and also because on the mostly single carriageway A road you can't overtake the trucks unless you want to risk a head on crash. Going west to east on this 40 mile run, I am seeing about 64 mpg and the other way 58 mpg. I've done the trip about 8 times now and that's what I am getting. Quite pleased with that. The old 1400TDI I got rid of after 14 years, used to get about 63 mpg in the winter and about 68 in summer on the west to east trip and about 60 on the east to west trip. The difference is down to the prevailing westerly wind I think.
  50. Just completed a very straightforward transaction with varaderoguy Highly recommended👍
