  1. Bumping an old thread as I finally got it done when wheel no3 succumbed... This is how they look in Anthracite with no diamond cuts, done via the smart repairer at my local Skoda dealer

  3. Sorry but I disagree. You can use Skoda ACC in city and it does not mean that you can take a nap doing it. If you take it as a side help and if you are still 100% consentrated on driving, then it is a good help even in town but if you start using it as an autopilot, then you are ****ed. When I use ACC in town (that I do constantly), I break and accelerate my own (for example in case of traffic lights) but when I drive around, I always have ACC on because you can hardly drive near speed limit in bigger cities. And it works like a charm when used in such way. I dont have to fiddle with break and accelerator pedals like crazy to match the tempo with the car in front. Every day I spend 1,5-2 hours driving around in a city and I would not imagine my life without ACC anymore.

  4. Just a point on that. Skoda don’t make an MPG claim. They list the EU’s tested MPG figure in their literature. They make cars to get as good a result as they can in the test, sure, but they don’t actually claim a figure. It will also take a few thousand miles for the engine to loosen up and start to give better economy.

  5. I came out of work to find the gardener's had blown all the dust from the ground all over the car's parked down the side of the factory Looking like this. So I decided to give it a quick wash. It ended up being nothing like quick so an hour and a half later it ended up like below quick rinse, snow foam, wash, rinse and a good leather off, windows rainexed. No time to polish today.

  6. Hence the reason I travel 55 miles each way to Mitchell's ( Cheshire Oaks) for excellent customer service rather than the local ( 6 mile distance) dealership who are appalling IMO.

  7. air in rear calliper lines, remove calliper and hang it higher up then pressure bleed again. This gets the air locks out

  8. Finished result looks good, very close to your original Photoshop and I like the colour. For me it still needs the diamond cut, the design doesn't really stand out without it.

  9. A work in progress, but I'm really happy with it so far. The birthday fairy delivered lots of goodies for me to play with. So today after washing, the bonnet and front wings were stripped (Oblitarate, Korrosol, IPA) then polished by hand using Meguiar's Ultimate Polish and a Lake County crimson pad. Then BH Paint cleanser followed by two coats of Fusso 99 Dark. The rest will get the same treatment in due course, but in the meantime I thought I'd try something recommended to me on here - Poorboys Black Hole Glaze. It's instantly become my new favourite product. @Wardy if you are ever in this neck of the woods the beers are on me. The sides are full of little scratches that need correcting out. You wouldn't know it from this, and literally all I did was to put the Poorboys on top of previous LSP. It really is astonishing stuff and highly recommended. The intent tomorrow is to put the Poorboys on the front once the Fusso has finished curing.

  10. I was dead set about refurbing my Xtremes to lose the diamond cut as it’s not great on all 4 wheels but it’s such a nice finish and I much prefer the look over the Gemini’s that I am going to DIY refurb the diamond bits using sanding apparatus and clear lacquer. Some might say it’s brave, but I think the majority would admit it’s probably a bit dim, you just might not say it to my face

  11. To Increase rim protection when my 19" tyres need changing I'm going to fit 235/35/19",s. A little bit more rim protection and in some cases tyres are a bit cheaper

  13. Even if you did indulge this fantasy ( I've seen these 1.6s tuning doing the rounds so we can expect plenty more of this diesel fandom). 1) how long will it last both mechanically, and because its diseasel..... ps really helping that you are defeating systems that are the only thing helping against the negative publicity of your beloved fuel - bet it smokes like a steamtrain 2) Vaccuous tuning methodology - more power only. What about Suspension ? Handling ? Brakes ? Power delivery ? 3) how much? If you add the 8-10K used to to 7K, wow thats a long LONG way to some much better cars....

  16. Just bought my monte carlo a few weeks ago. Only done a few mods to it so far. I've lowered it on eibach springs (30/45mm) and sprayed the badges black. Also clayed, polished and waxed.

  17. I'm sure they have done the maths and calculated that coasting saves more fuel. My impression, especially on a familiar journey where I know where I can lift off and let it coast is that it does save fuel, especially on A roads where your engine may be using fuel to idle but you're travelling at 50/60 mph for a decent length of time. It felt odd at first but all that kinetic energy can take you a long way compared to engine braking which slows you down quite quickly.

  19. Well, as the OP to this thread thought it was about time to update it. Ive now owned the car for 4 years, owned from pre reg with 50 miles on. It has been and still is an excellent car ticking the boxes of practical, cheap to run, good looking and relatively quick. I did look at swopping the car for a superb sportline at the start of the year but couldnt get the right deal and decided it wasnt worth the extra to change. It just had its 4th service and has now done 35000 miles averaging about 48mpg. I have never kept a car this long in my life so the car is clearly doing something right!!

  20. Hi all, recently had the dreaded flashing glow plug and limp mode scenario, limp mode ain't fun with a car full of nearest and dearest. Pulled over when safe turned off engine waited and restarted and full power back yeah!! Next day OK then on the way to work on Monday here we go again. As I was pushed for time and scared by the EGR scare stories on the internet i bought some Wynns Diesel EGR cleaner from Amazon. Package arrived next day and I used it, fault gone and not returned car feels more eager and fuel economy is now up to 47 from 44 mpg. I do plan to clean the EGR properly when I get the time but the purpose of this post is to say for £10 this stuff really worked wonders for me, hopefully it will help someone here who has the same issues.

  21. Hello all, Nice to meet you all - I'm Rob from Southport, a small(ish) seaside town in Merseyside. I have just popped my Skoda cherry by buying a 1999 Felicia 1.3MPi Pacific Estate which I can only describe as amusingly basic! I was in dire need of a runaround and saw this at the right price so, in the spirit of 'nothing ventured, nothing gained' I bought it! I have ventured, and will let you know over the next few weeks whether or not I have gained!

  22. Hmm, I'd be tempted to bite the bullet and replace with new. Unless things have changed a refurb. entails spray painting the wheel and it is not as resilient as original finish (in as much as you cannot use traditional alloy wheel cleaners - it would strip the paint). Unless things have changed since I last had refurbishment done. Bill

  26. @BriskodaJeff, you said out something very important for me about ACC. It gives you an option not to stare your spidometer. When I start the drive in city, I set ACC to 60 km/h even before using it. And when I drive I activate ACC so I don't have to stare spidometes as I know my car will not go over set value if I don't want to. And it helps a lot when slower speed limit area is ahead. One click on ACC lever and it's set to 50 km/h and I don't have to worry about crossing the speed limit. Superb does not yet have head-up display so staring a spidometer is a real pain for me.

  27. Appreciate reading the positive comments about your dealer, John. Mostly all I see is bitching and moaning. It's a true fact that people make much more effort to complain than they do to praise. As a personal choice, I would always choose to travel to a really good, well recommended dealer than put up with crap service on my doorstep! Cheers, Peter.

  28. Of course it'll have a GPF fitted then and will have the exhaust note of a wet fart and one and a bit seconds added to the 0-60 time, CO2 revised up by 20% and the dealer will try to charge you the extra VED. Only joking.......

  29. Knew a guy a few years ago who had a Peugeot Gti on a PCP who was covering 30,000 miles a year, plugged it in somewhere reduced the mileage once for first service then did another 30,000 miles in year two. Just before he returned it did the same again. Car had actually covered 60,000 miles in 2 years had one service yet person who becomes second owner thinks it's done 20,000 miles.

  30. You can gain 0.3 to 0.4 mpg just by lifting 300 metres before a roundabout and shifting down to fifth or fourth depending on how flexible your engine is. This is for a manual and is similar to the coasting function on a DSG car, avoiding using the brakes if at all possible. I use this technique alot because I use 7 roundabouts when approaching/leaving work. Makes your brakes last much longer and saves fuel without adding any time to the journey as my commute is typically 42/43 mph average and takes 37 minutes in either direction.

  37. I believe my Octavia Estate is now in the UK but I'm off to Austria in a one month old Superb Sportline Hatch, 1.4 DSG, provided by my dealer FOC. I have only had to meet the cost of insurance as their company insurance only covers UK. Hopefully when I get back in a couple of weeks I'll simply hand back the Superb and take my Octavia. I simply can't fault the dealer. John

  38. redmike, where have you ever seen a Skoda advert saying a Skoda car does any particular MPG driven on a road outside a building with people in the car? http://skoda.co.uk/pages/fuel-consumption-statement.aspx PS, Odd that the Octavia with a 50 litre tank can get only the amount people here are saying yet a Fabia with a 45 litre tank can be bimmed to over 50 litres with still fuel in, and without 'venting'.

  39. I’ve had this excellent TSi 220 vRS for just a touch over two years now. Photos just after new front tyres and mudflats fitted. Just been serviced and washed. 37900 Miles, Interim Service £159 and DSG Service still to do. Full valet and alloy wheel x 2 repair next month.

  40. I only have CC not ACC but - Skoda can we please have our RH footrest back ? (RHD Octy 2 had it 3 does not) I would consider it a safety issue as it makes it quicker to get back onto the brake or accelerator as appropriate.

  44. Had mine since september with 10600 kilometres now (about 6600 miles) and I like it very much! It looks and feels good, enough room with the kids and I love to drive it. It's an estate, steel grey with grey stitching in the interior. Options: RS comfort pack, RS GPS pack, canton sound system and electrical boot.

  48. Am I the only one that likes diamond cut wheels? For me, without the diamond cut face, both the Gemini and Xtreme wheels look a bit plain and boring, especially in darker colours. There's something about the way that light hits the diamond face and they shine that makes them look great which normal alloys don't have. Appreciate they are a pig to Refurb and if you curb them then they look a mess, but my VRS is almost 4.5 years old now and my diamond cut Geminis still look great.
