  1. Yes, but some people have degraded their writing to a mispelt and unpunctuated flow of consciousness that can't actually be understood.

  2. All sorted now and no discernible problems. Cam belt day turned into cam belt week! 🤣 I'm glad I changed the oil pick up pipe, too. I've seen worse, but there was plenty of gunk in there. The pic below was after scraping some of the build up away. The sump benefitted from a thorough clean too.

  4. I went through a phase of regular offs forgetting that I was clipped to the pedals when stopping at junctions, traffic lights, my own backdoor etc. The best one was at a crowded boulangerie, I pulled up outside intending standing my bike by the front door, instead I fell sideways into the shop amongst the people queuing for their bread bringing the bike in with me

  5. No, it should be reset immediately after checking/ resetting tyre pressures before driving.

  6. Insurance car for 3 weeks, top of the range petrol auto. Drove OK but traction poor unless in power limiting eco mode. Roomy, but very high sill so loading the boot for runs to the dump was difficult. Felt quicker than my 1.0TSI Toledo and better mpg too, surprisingly averaging over 50mpg right across the M62 and back (the SEAT does mid 40s on the same trip) The Nissan has all the gadgets, but ergonomics are poor- switches all over and less logical system operation than on VAG vehicles. I wouldn't buy one. The confused cockpit is something I remember from sister company Renault and I don't like it at all.

  7. Hey all Perhaps restoration is a little bit of a grand title, as I am tidying up, looking after and improving my recently acquired MY52 vRS. I've always wanted one of these badboys in yellow, but also wanted one that gave me a chance to learn more about cars and gain the sense of satisfaction that will (hopefully!) come from fixing one up. A few weeks back, this beaut came on the market - unmodified - and I snapped it up. At just under £1k, it obviously had some issues, but the engine and transmission seemed pretty decent. There's very little history with it, so a thorough service, cam belt change, new water pump and new oil pick up pipe are all happening soon, before I add to the 124,000 miles it's already done. The plan is to keep it as original as possible, but acquire some factory options that were left off (no cruise control!!) and add those as and when money/time allow. My initial list of things to attend to looks like; Rear brake mooring/squealing Interior light (driver's side) won’t stay on Rust on wings (dirt behind arch cover) Bent sills Low front bumper kerb scuffs Rear bumper scratches from loading (just no respect, is there? ) Rusted wishbones (MOT advisory) Cam belt and water pump change Total service Chipped/cracked grill surround Starter motor piston shriek Boot dent Gearbox oil leak? Peeling window tint (most windows) Tailgate struts (evident leaks, crap performance) OSF window clunk/rattle Water ingress in boot (both sides) Windscreen chips Replace knackered aerial Clean interior & boot carpet (evidently had previous water issues) Replace worn/scuffed/knackered plastics I'll prioritise the bodywork and mechanical stuff (in bold) before shelling out on cosmetic upgrades. I look forward to sharing my progress with you all and learning from those far more accomplished than I when it comes to car mechanics/restoration. Cheers

  12. Nobody's perfect. We all make mistakes. We all have different levels of education for whatever reason. IMO it's better to make your point understood rather than being grammatically perfect. So what if someone says 'grill' instead of 'grille' e.g. The man who never made a mistake never made anything. Hell, if you read some posts on here, even those written by those higher up, you'll notice they're riddled with grammatical inaccuracies but you get the gist otherwise you'd pull them up on it or not hit the like/ thanks reaction. Lighten up.

  14. I haven't got a MK4 so I've not spent much time on this but given some of those costs I had to take a quick look... There is this kit which is customised by PR code/headunit. Certainly better at ~£350 but I'm not sure what unlocking SFD requires or which tools are needed: - https://www.carsystems.eu/skoda-octavia-nx-4-gen-rear-high-line-camera-kit-retrofit,id4274.html Otherwise, there are a couple of options on Aliexpress. The first is advertised for a MK4 but no mention of PR code or coding help, it's not a seller I've used: - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002357151512.html The second seems to be identical although advertised only for an A3. This is a seller I have used and found helpful in the past: - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002348625696.html If I were doing this, I'd probably contact Audi Auto to see if the A3 camera can be used/parametrised for a MK4 Octavia and if they know about the coding/SFD unlocking. They certainly seem to do the loom for an Octavia: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002504963576.html

  15. My best one was in Cambridge cycling past Pembroke College along Trumpington Street. As I went past a parked car the drivers door opened so I swing hard right. I was going too fast really and couldn't stop before I hit the open gutter in front of the college. The front wheel went down it and stopped, I went over the handlebars but because I had toe clips on the bike then followed me and I ended up on my back with the bike still attached at the college gate. I was in such a position that I needed a passer by to loosen the clips so I could unhook my feet and get up. No injury just a bruised ego. A few days later a mate got similar treatment from another driver but ended up hitting the car door and going over the top of it...

  17. Great link. Thanks. I'm hoping that the differences are super minor as I managed to pick up a used tailgate in colour for £40. The car it came off is a 2009 and mine is 2011 so at least it's from the parts which are only one apart rather than two, if you see what I mean. I'll have a crack at fitting it and update when/if it fits. Fingers crossed

  19. Ok Guys, here is the finished thing - Genuine Audi Alloys, 8.5j x 19" with an ET48. Tyres are Uniroyal Rainsport 5 at 235/35/19 91Y XL, and the car has been lowered 35mm all round using the Bilstein B14 Coilover kit. All fitted by Demon Tweeks, who said that the fronts were very tight, but clear everything and are safe, and the rears had to have 5mm spacers and longer bolts. A 4 wheel alignment finished a 4hr job off. The ride is firmer, with none of the previous wallow, the car is smooth, planted and precise, the ride is no where near as hard as my Golf GTi. I'm delighted. I just need some centre caps!

  24. Besides lubricating the expanding rivet with soap, I can recommend to push its pin just a millimetre in in advance, so that it will move much easier once you put it in the whole. It seems the pin is stuck at first until you get it moving at least a bit.

  27. Hopefully someone here can help. There is no such thing with Skoda as 'Full Services', they called them Minor / interim or Major. That is glorified Oil & Filter Changes. Extras cost extra, and you get asked what you want or maybe they do stuff and do not ask. This is the Skoda 3-10 year Service items as 'Recommended', but do not assume that at a Service they are done you need to see the Invoice / Bill.

  28. You are correct - thanks. I've posted this reply in the kph/mph thread. Our Octavia iV estate was bought on May 11th and yesterday I set kph in settings. The digital display now shows kph. I'm not aware of any software updates as when I'm asked on the car's display I refuse, so it was always available. I also set the clock to 'automatic' and via the SIM card, it now displays internet time. This should fix the problem I had with random time changes. The dealer told me yesterday that Skoda UK has received a software update and several thousand cars are eligible for the 'fix' and owners should be contacted by their dealer. Ours is already booked in on June 17th.

  32. Thanks. I'm not sure the Climatronic system on the 5J is quite the same as the Passat, as a lot of those options didn't work. I did however manage to pull code 4FA which relates to recirc flap motor and peform a reset/calibration which cleared the code. All working as normal now.

  35. Aye - Sunroofs. Or as I would be more inclined to view it a roof that someone has gone and put a hole in. Weakened Shell More weight - As high up as possible Reduced headroom It will leak eventually Very noisy when driving at any speed If it is glass plenty are cracking Another potential corrosion area Something else to go wrong More light into interior - but I don't want the interior lit up and loads of reflections, I'm concentrating on the view outside the car. All for the advantage of being able to burn the top of my head on a sunny day - Not quite bald yet but getting sparse up there. And people buying new cars actually spend extra money for this. Interesting though if you look at adverts for older cars 'no sunroof' is often listed at the top of the list of desirable features, cars with a sunroof - the sunroof either doesn't get mentioned and the photographs are carefully taken to avoid it being obvious or alternatively they are declared along with some lame 'not that bad really' type story. The words 'no sunroof' needs no additional selling. I have been both lucky and unlucky with sunroofs: Saab 900 classic - Not leaking when sold at 20 years. Very seldom open it should be said. Ford Escort MK V - Leaked like a sieve at 4 years.

  36. The ABS based system IMHO is fine, it does what you need, still no excuse not to check your tyre pressures manually, I do most weeks. As to the rRenault system I had nothing but problems with it on my C5 estate also rubbish on Fords .The battery on both systems fail far to easily also you get electrolytic corrosive around the valve seats causing pressure loss.

  37. Same here. It's not as if we're F1 drivers where a fraction of a lb. makes a big difference to tyre and car performance and more importantly stability. The last thing most road drivers need is complex information flashing up in front of their eyes if there's a serious problem that needs dealing with fairly soon/urgently.

  39. Personally I wouldn’t buy a Superb with a sunroof due to the potential for it to leak now or in the future; seems inevitable that it will. Also, the fact is you might actually only use it 2-3 times per annum. My wife has an electric sunroof on her runout MKI 2003 2.0L Focus and she never uses it, except to dump air from the inside of the car when it’s hot, but you can just drop the windows on the Superb to do the same thing; the Focus does same too BTW. And yes, it has leaked, just once about 10 years ago which I fixed. But what I really dislike is they’re sooo noisy when they’re open. I understand that some people like them but given the climate ventilation system on the MKIII is, well, superb, so the use of sunroofs are all but irrelevant these days.

  43. Nice one! I also changed the back signal lights and reversing lights with LEDs and the improvement was significant. Think I know which YT vid helped you since it was probably the same for me. For Fog lights I threw out the stock halogens as they were basically worthless and replaced with H8 Philipps Fog Leds (11366UE2X2) . No errors, No issues, HUGE improvement at night and when cornering. I'd also suggest replacing your mirror turn signal LEDS with dynamic scrolling ones. They look sick! Here's something that I'd like to know. How do you set the angle of the fog lights? My left one is way higher than the right one. Not sure if that's ok. Cars is LHD. 2017 pre-facelift.

The website is sometimes a little 'capricious'.... Enjoy!

  45. Well I did it 😁 Fronts: One other tip for anyone else (fronts). Use a new (ie, really sharp) drill bit and just pop in the middle panel screw. Hand twist the drill bit all the way through (top and bottom) wearing gloves. No need for a right angle drill! Remove flap, pull out trim and make sure you remove every last piece of swarf from the back and front of the hole. If you don't the pop rivets will not go in. I got a bit annoyed at one point and nearly broke one of them!! A stanley knife does the trick with the drill bit "in the hole" to push the swarf out to allow trimming it off fully. Once that's done its easy! First one took nearly an hour. Second one took 10 minutes once I learned about the swarf. Rears easy! Paul
