ULEZ and other similar schemes we are being told are all about clean air for everybody but are they really just a means of making money from motorists?
The majority of those deaths would have been due to decades of earlier pollution. The ulez zones have had less effect than the earlier actions taken which was bringing the levels down as older vehicles were leaving the roads. Annual emissions of PM10 have decreased by 82 per cent since 1970, to 127 thousand tonnes in 2022. They have increased by 1 per cent between 2021 and 2022. Annual emissions of PM2.5 have decreased by 88 per cent since 1970, to 65 thousand tonnes in 2022. They have decreased by 2 per cent between 2021 and 2022. In the UK PM2.5 emissions decreased by 41 per cent between 2005 and 2022. Therefore, in 2022, the UK did meet the 30 per cent emission reduction commitment required between 2020 to 2029 as set out in the NECR. Levels of both pollutants generally decreased between 1970 and the late- 2000s. There are many reasons for this long-term decrease, which covers most emissions sources, but the reduction in the burning of coal and improved emission standards for transport and industrial processes are major drivers. Since the late 2000s annual emissions of PM have generally continued to fall, but the rate of change has reduced. Compared to earlier decades, emission levels have been relatively steady with small annual fluctuations. Considerable decreases in emissions from some sources (e.g. from road transport and energy industries) have been largely offset by increases in emissions from wood burning in domestic settings and from solid fuel burning by industry (particularly the burning of biomass based- fuels). In 2020 PM emissions reached the lowest level since estimates began due to reduced economic activity during the COVID-19 pandemic. https://programmeofficers.co.uk/Highsted/CoreDocuments/CD21%20-%20Air%20Quality%20-%20topic%20specific%20documents/21.1%20Emissions%20of%20air%20pollutants%20in%20the%20UK%20%E2%80%93%20(PM10%20and%20PM2.5),%20DEFRA%20(Feb%202024).pdf

Just been looking at a low mileage Mk2 Octavia, looking for some second opinions
In my opinion, a DSG in good condition should never exhibit clunky changes - I presume that this would be a dry-clutch version. Clunky changes and strange low-speed creeping behaviour might suggest potential issues.

Hi, thanks. I don't know much about DSG boxes and have never driven one, so I'm not sure if it's the car or me to be honest. However I think there are enough concerns and things that didn't sit right with me that I don't think it's the car for me, and you're right, it is expensive for what it is. A low mileage, comfortable, economic car is attractive, and if it was cheaper I might go for it. but at that price there's only so much I can ignore!- Considering Kodiaq Sportline PHEV 5 seater
Thanks - appreciated Deal done yesterday and car ordered and expected for late December/January. Have chosen Graphite Grey. Lease details: 3+23, 10k miles for £443 p/m. Cars are already pre-ordered from factory and can't have spec changed. Funder is VWFS and supplying dealer is Johnsons. Choice of pearlescent Black, Graphite Grey, Race Blue and metallic White. Well specced cars with 20" wheels, matrix LEDs and adaptive dampers as standard, but no 360 degree camera (would have had to been able to add Driving Assistance Plus package at £1025 for that) Score of 92 out of 100 for value on LeaseLoco LeaseLocoSKODA Kodiaq 1.5 TSI iV 204 SportLine 5dr DSG Lease: 24 M...Lease a SKODA Kodiaq 1.5 TSI iV 204 SportLine 5dr DSG Over 24 Months with 10000 Miles PA and 3 Months Upfront Today Via LeaseLoco- Today

Air pollution linked to 30,000 UK deaths in 2025 and cost...- The state of early mk4's in 2026?
Mine is a mid 2021 vRS TSI, had the odd glitch like park distance error on start-up, but that always disappeared straight away. The only major fault I've had was the airbag module bricking itself due to a low battery, I could probably take some of the blame for that as it was during a period of very short trips, so the battery got low. I now put it on a battery tender every couple of weeks when it's not being used for longer drives. And to be fair that only happened recently, so the battery was over 5 years old - car was out of warranty (just) so Skoda came to the party on that one. Otherwise, I'm fairly happy with it - could do without some of the nannying from the electronics such as the stop/start and lane assist, but it's hard to get away from all that crap with modern cars unfortunately.CS363 started following The state of early mk4's in 2026?- Mk2 Octavia underside maintenance
Yeah I have one of those too excellent addition 👍- 2012 to 2019 Superb Refresh
Trust me. From 2006, I had a MKI 140 and then a MKII 170 in 2011 until I bought the 280 in 2020. Give it a week and you won’t miss the diesel thump, as the 280 is, as Gav says, a different animal. Unless you’ve driven a truly fast car, you will not believe how fast the car accelerates. I do very short (2 miles each way) commute and I get around 24mpg. On a long run (Surbiton to Liverpool) without too many explosive accelerations, I’ve got 39mpg which, in our case for a 330bhp car, is great and on shorter “long” runs 32-36. Even when (well hope) the lunatic Trump pointless war is over, we all know that fuel prices are not going to return to the prices a year ago, so they’ll reduce but the Petrol/Diesel price difference will remain.- Mk2 Octavia underside maintenance
Note also the support for the trolley jack arm. It means you don't need a jack stand as well.- How To: Heated Windscreen Retrofit

So soldering is the only way. Could you please explain how or maybe there is a tutorial. I searched all over the internet and can't find a video or explanation on what to solder and what else I need.- What battery to get?
AGM is the OE battery type for the car and it was originally fitted with a Panasonic AGM battery at the factory. Subsequent replacements from Westco or similar have been poor in comparison, lasting at most 2 years, which is why I switched away from AGM. If you've had good experiences with them that's great to hear - unfortunately I haven't and would not purchase one again given their significantly higher cost and the significantly lower lifetimes I've experienced from them. EFB batteries or even basic standard batteries have proven to last around 4 to 5 times longer than AGM in my experience.- Digital cockpit.
Hi Derek. Thanks for the information HHC is a really good feature with a manual gearbox i will look into having HHC activated if possible.- What battery to get?
Does the MX5 have a charging algorithm for AGM batteries? If not then it is likely to be over charging them and hence causing their life to be minimised. The Octavia has a specific AGM algorithm so optimises the charging rate and voltage. I stand by what I said that I always choose AGM, with the qualification that this applies to vehicles with charging algorithms for AGM.- Dampers too shorts? - Octavia Scout MK2
