  1. Had it valeted yesterday including engine bay. Would normally do it myself but struggling to find the time lately. Today, trip to Birmingham to get our Multimac 3 seater child seat installed in preparation for baby #3. Amazing product that allows you to get 3 kids across the middle of the car, which is normally pretty difficult due to the size of kids car seats (there's also a 4 seater version). Also on the round trip journey, I achieved 41.4 avg mpg round trip (6.82l/100km). Not bad for a thirsty 2L (220ps sportline).
  2. Thought I’d chuck up a hello here, bought my 2016 Red VRS 230 a month ago, I’ve come from Golf R ownership and needed to practicality! Love the car so far. This month it’s had resonator delete, H&R springs along with 20mm rear and 15mm front spacers.
  3. You will find after a few hundred miles once they are bed in. The grip goes to another level.
  4. I settled on the Pre-FL 2017 model. It was the right price for me for the performance. It definitely looks plain. Very unassuming, even with the black pack (which doesn't stand out because I have the grey colour) Not much of a head-turner. The interior is practical, yet not an eye-opener. That's precisely what I was happy with. The basic body looks great to me but I don't want to attract attention for it to be a target. Nevertheless, the thing also packs so much power that it's overkill for our suburban roads.
  5. I'm slightly confused I thought I was on the petrol 245 owners section of Brisky with a Focus RS in white but no it must be a mistake surely a 230 with a remap but it's a diesel with a number that says it's a DOG. Only joking Andy like John I actually like it despite joshing with you.
  6. Thanks guys, it means a lot. It will be a sad day but I’ve had such fun with the Superb. We’re going to bugger off in the new motorhome in a couple of months to explore the UK and Europe if Covid doesn’t lock us all down again. Until then I can still find excuses to go to the shops etc in the Superb but that’s not justifiable forever unfortunately. I can also straighten my finances if I sell up, I hate ‘adulting’ but sometimes gotta be sensible I suppose 🙂
  7. Welcome to the forum 🙂 I have the 1.4 which is the same basic engine design. I also used to work at a VW/Audi dealer workshop. My advice is that such an oil change isn’t necessary but it’s up to you. My car has never gone more than 10,000 miles before an oil change and is 5.5 years old, 70 k miles and no issues whatsoever. I’ve done a couple of early oil and filters at 5k and 7k intervals and generally change it at 9000 miles. Its not going to hurt it at 1000 miles but if you’ve got a 2 free services deal watch out it doesn’t confuse the Skoda dealers service computer as the service regime now is electronic and unclear to say the least. If it was me, (given that you’ll have to get the free services done at a skoda dealer), and I wanted to get it done at 1000 miles, I’d buy a genuine filter and decent oil of your choice and do it myself or take it to VAG specialist and get them to it. Enjoy 👍
  8. The main topic on all this is here FWIW https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/449490-noise-insulation/ Wheel arches are far less important than doing the boot floor and sides with sound deadening material. This area acts like a big speaker driver. I have done the front and rear wheel arches and sprayed the rear felt covers with a rubber dip compound to increase their density and durability. I am not convinced much noise gets into the car directly from the wheel arches. Its mainly sympathetic vibrations in the panels in other parts of the car from mechanical vibrations. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=676P7bIV0Gg
  9. shame to hear u have to sell the car @drewellis 😞 more importantly, hope u get back on the road to recovery sooner rather than later. good luck.
  10. It can't do any harm to change the oil that soon, but the benefits aren't clear to me. If it makes you feel happier, just do it. Try to ignore those who might try to ridicule you; and take on board @Ads230's wise suggestion about doing such work outside the dealer network for better value-for-money and possibly better workmanship.
  11. Remember only work to live, never live to work. You're in I.T.? then in that case you can probably do some stuff while travelling - it's not even a new thing working from (motor) home, despite what has been happening just lately.
  12. Does the external bonnet catch have a cable? I'm thinking the OP is referring to the catch that you access when the bonnet has popped up?

Hi there. What you do is click on the town. At the bottom of the screen there is a button marked pstcd (more or less). This brings up a number pad. At the bottom of this screen press the ABC button, enter the first two letters, then press 123 and enter the numbers, then ABC again for the last two letters. Then enter. I'm doing this from memory, but used it this morning and it's more or less like that! Shout if not clear and I'll repeat the instructions whilst sitting in the car.

On the rare occasion I need to use the Sat Nav you can speed up the process by pressing the voice control button and say Navigation, then Postcode and when prompted by the sexy lady (not my wife of course) spell the required Postcode in letters and numbers slowly. Usually works first time for me in my Superb (Columbus) or the wife's Karoq (Amundsen).🙂
  15. Yes they are all fine. I can test the fans with vcds and they start up fine.
  16. Is your phone connected to the apple car play or android auto - via USB? Sounds like a phone sound... not got that sound in my Car Either Or did you get a dashcam or dealer fit options?
  17. I've successfully used man-maths to counter adulting. However, selling my motorcycle and buying a Škoda may have given me away a bit.
  18. Gearbox is fine so far. It gets the power down decent as it’s got a diff and PS4 tyres although in the rain today I’m getting wheel spin in 3rd at 65mph.....
  19. The 195 60 16 will be excellent I'm sure, but as for the 18" low profile giving a harsh ride, that has been the opinion of others posted on here. Since you find it not to be the case then thats great news. Others might adjust pressures maybe.

Well lets go to the performance and handle upgrade section 😀 Also as the car was registered in 2014 I am guessing there would be no manufacturer warranty issues? I have no other warranties.
  21. I did the first one at 10k... Personally, I would ask this question, which is what would you rather have buying second hand: - 1 change at 1000 miles and the next at 19,000 miles - 1 change at circa 10000 miles and the next at 20,000 miles a year later? As you're on the two year fixed servicing, I would suggest just wait for the 10,000/1 year service. If that's not where you want to go, perhaps consider if it's worth running the car for 3 months or say 5000/6000 miles and then changing it then. Don't forget that modern manufacturing leaves much less debris and I believe the engines are usually bench run anyway, before being drained, fitted and correctly filled.

Hi Lads New to the group just picked this up a few weeks ago iv never had a petrol turbo so looking forward to learning more about them this has mods done already and is meant to be mapped to 230bhp Let me know if you see anything wrong or good haha
  23. Yeah it is, but you need SmartLink to get AA on the radio screen and unlike AA, CarPlay on iPhone isn’t native on the screen at all, you need a radio for it. One thing I wish they would change so if you have a single din radio or older car you can have CarPlay on the phone screen!!!
  24. Well done Racing Point (and Renault in P5?). I think RB are possibly hiding their potential on Friday. Honda have been publicly crowing about making big progress on the engine during the lockdown, so we will see what it has got in Q3. For me the best part of the day has been getting live F1 free again, working throughout the sessions, although currently only on PC rather than Amazon Firestick and big screen. Oh and downloading all The Witcher books free too.
  25. Car also sanitized........not sure about the owner though.........perhaps you can sit in there while they spray it.
  26. Yeah will do mate. It’s not gonna be anytime soon but this is the 3rd vrs ive owned and dont plan on ever selling it. Who knows maybe one day the mk1 vrs will shoot up in value?
  27. My alloys could do with a clean but the thought of standing in the drive in the rain is putting me off. At least the beading on the bonnet looks nice.
  28. hmm interesting I've been n both and honestly I prefer the Octavia inside although there's not a lot in it anyway - really nice car spacers and drop look spot on!
  29. RTMG Sheffield. Hands down the most knowledgeable company I know of who deal with 1.4tfsi engines. Tuning boxes are ticking time bomb IMO.
  30. My new Vrs on a 2016 plate with RS bonnet grill and decal. I think this is what an octavia should of looked like as standard. It's manual TDI with 233 bhp smiles all around
  31. Same here. Mine is supposed to be running 235bhp and 301lb ft (with a graph to back it up). I had considered going and having the map faffed around with to get more bhp, but then it drives really well and has been in this state of tune since 2013. That's who set mine up and I'm quite happy with it.
  32. Last four cars bought brand new and kept for 5+ years, average mileage, absolutely no engine problems with no significant "running in" or oil change before manufacturers schedule at 12 months+. Tiny risk that the car mechanic will make a mistake far outweighs any possible advantage of an early oil change for me. Also be careful if you fit anything other than an original Skoda oil filter. Could invalidate your warranty.
  33. As above hope you make a full recovery. Wife had a scare in 2005 when only 36 years young and touch wood she is fully recovered from a near fatal episode which took her 6 months just to get enough confidence to go for a relatively short walk without panic attacks. Good luck and like Bigeater always enjoyed reading about your mods.
  34. the wife's suzuki had a change at 1500km. It's not complete bunkum, there is a point, but just how much sense it makes is another question. 5 years isn't long. The wife's car, though - that also mainly does short stuff, which means it essentially never gets warmed through. This is not good for longevity. My Octy, though, that patrols motorways at 120km/h twice a day, multiple times a week, and the wear will be significantly lower as a result. If the wear is going to be higher, by all means do the extra service. - Bret
  35. Simililarish setup to mine apart from I haven't done anything to the turbo and I'm running standard injectors. I do have an oversized TIP though and quite an efficient set of intercooler pipework which flows really well. Mine runs 225bhp and 260lb of torque on a Jabbasport map. I could probably go and get the map tweaked and get a bit more out of it but it drives nice, the power delivery is good and predictable and most importantly, it's reliable so I'm leaving it alone.
  36. Yeah, just found them. That's a really good price too! Once I have ordered some shortened 13" plates and I've been paid, I'll probably bite the bullet and get the ST X coilovers. I'm finally on modified insurance so let the modding commence!
  37. A set of combination spanners size 8 - 19mm will cover most of the bases, much more useful than a socket set for occasional use, even better if they're the ratcheting type. You'll also need Torx bits and regular screwdriver bits which you can buy in a set. A brake caliper windback tool if you're going to replace brake pads yourself and a pair of axle stands to rest the car on once you've jacked it up using the standard jack. Additional tools as required.
  38. ? Does SEAT build them in Spain and is it no longer VW building them in Slovakia? The boot would be small, as with the e-Up! he so liked. Put the Fat Uncle in the front passengers side, or in the back behind another passenger. Head for thinking, feet for dancing. Why not put the shopping in the front footwell or the rear if on your own, or with just another..
  39. Bit late reply, but I had this on a Seat Leon (same handbrake type) and I didn't want to pay for a new handbrake so I fixed it with a bowl washer to hold the spring in place, should be able to get these from any DIY store for a few quid. The button can then be put back over the end, glued on if you want to but I left mine loose and it hasn't fallen off.
  40. A bl00dy marvelous creation. If you do not want it functioning then push the off button.
  41. tried the long hold on the voice control and it does indeed activate the google assistant, so thanks again to MarkyG82 for pointing this out. I also seemed to have improved the start up issue by enabling start android auto when it detects the cars blue tooth. Still have to sort the Whatsapp notifications though.
  42. Picked up my iV SEL yesterday, so far so good and managed to get a charge in as well. Really impressed how seamless the switch from electric to engine is
  43. Three Yetis over 10 years, last one for 6 years. All three with pano ceilings and none have leaked. Only issue was TIBET II that was prone to creaking occasionally but Allams sorted it on a service and it was fine after that. Any minor creaks caused by ambient temperature changes are cured by opening (tilt) and closing (untilt!) the roof and letting it reseat on the seals. The light into the cabin is fantastic. The blind shuts itself when it gets cold or wet when parked. The view through the roof is second to none - especially for the back seaters as I found out when a couple of friends and I took TIBET III for a jaunt down to Dubrovnik (threrad elsewhere) and you could sit back and watch the Austrian mountains pass by (when off shift from driving!). I wouldn't have an issue buying a Yeti with a pano roof. Mind you, I don't have an issue with brown leather seats (TIBET III being an L&K) or Tibetan Bronze paint whilst others, who have never lived with such niceties will look the other way. The L&K had a great spec for standard 'extras', what's not to like. As others have said - the naysayers tend to outvote the happy folk - human nature.
  44. ...It can do, Mr Fisher, if there is too much oil on the filter. Its been noted that oil can affect the sensor but it can often be cleaned, with proper cleaning spray. The internal fine wire is extremely sensitive so can easily become dirty or get damaged. Often a replacement is the only way but they are usually a lot cheaper on ECP or CP4L type sites, with a discount code and quite easy to change on a Fabia. Mr Crow, I liked the pencil up the pipe trick... I have personally swapped the filter on my Skud at least five times in its life and never had an issue with priming or bleeding and only minimal leakage. Its a bit messy, sure but simple to do. The pencil trick is similar to blocking up an air pipe, say, with a bolt and a jubilee clip.

I have been told by my dealer of 2 issues - one is that the drain pipes from the panoramic roof need to be cleared out in case they block, and the other relates to the calibration of a sensor. They weren't specific as to which sensor, but westie38's post gives a highly likely answer. All work to be done foc, of course. Going in next week to have the work done (together with a service).
  46. Apparently there is a "recall" to get a new manual. I put my VIN into the Skoda checker and it said there was a recall, checking with the dealer they said it was for a new manual and they would order one (not had it yet) I agree the book is nearly useless so many things are not the same 😞 John
  47. Buy a scanner, buy a printer. I use a Brother laser printer, and I have a Canon scanner
