  1. can you not just run this car to a garage....................before you injure yourself !!!
  2. 2 points
so i did not found that setting. but i can report that keys do save seat position, in the morning my girlfriend used the car, with her keys, evening i took it out for a drive unlocked seat got to my position,
  3. As Damo is no longer around to update this, @JGrindel has started a new thread which will incorporate and take over from this one.
  4. Hard to part with a car that you say is not yours , one where your Nan is the main driver, that your Aunty sometimes uses to go to work and that you might use occasionally to go out for a meal with friends. Using taxis or even a private chauffeur driven limousine to occasionally take your friends to a meal will be a lot cheaper than paying for the insurance on your Nans VRS that you cant bear to part with. Buy a low rated car that you can afford to insure, get some hopefully accident & claim free years behind you and then you can graduate to what you would like to drive, it's was exactly like that for me and everybody else 45 years ago and was not a new thing then, in probably 60+ years the insurers have had plenty of time to work out all the angles.
  5. No wiring - plug in and then you get someone to help you code the new tacho and keys with your car.
  6. Passing an MOT does not make a car 'road-legal' I agree that the MOT is currently only targeting conversions on headlights as they tend to be the brightest and most likely to cause glare. That does not mean that converting other lamps is perfectly OK. Currently, the UK regulations don't allow any LED/xenon lighting. The ECE regulations supplement/supersede these which is why LED/xenon can be used. If I remember correctly, the regulations stipulate that the bulbs must be ECE approved and match those used when the lamp was tested to get it's approval. Given there are no ECE approved LED bulbs, it basically means that fitting LEDs to any lamp designed for halogens effectively nullifies the lamps approval (regardless of use) making them no longer suitable for road use until the correct bulb is refitted. Philips freely admit this on their packaging: https://www.powerbulbs.com/product/philips-x-tremeultinon-led-gen2-p21w-6000k-twin You can see the ECE R27 and road symbols have crosses by them on the box and the powerbulbs website states: Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to tell you what you should do, only to explain why this kind of modification isn't road-legal despite being able to get through an MOT From that you can make your own informed decision and understand what the repercussions might be.
  7. And can you also push the map button again after the map is on the screen. You will get the split screen menu instead of the full screen map. The default for the split screen is the compass - this can be changed in a drop-down box to GPS info. This screen will tell you how many satellites it and see and whether or not it has a lock and let me know how many you can see and what the numbers are?
  8. A few pictures from this evening's walk
  9. No it is correct, i live in Jersey and do ferry to France and then drive across Europe to Germany/Austria/Czech Republic.... I just don't know what to really say when people ask this...it's almost like you live in a place where top speed limit is 40mph, why do you modify your car? Jersey actually has one of the highest concentration of super cars per square mile in the world so this question would probably be more justified towards someone with Mclaren or lambo than me adding 50 odd hP to my Skoda. People buy cars and never drive them etc....it takes all sorts.
  10. I like it but I turned mine off. Useful but annoying in most situations
  11. Unless I am missing something, the SR250 being able to decode and if require downmix (which I can tweak) was one of the reasons to get it. FWIW the 8000s, wasn’t super powerful per se, but the power is very usable and controlled. Still sounds far better than modern amps costing 3-4 times the money vs what it cost in the 90s.
  12. Xman did add their experience, and unless he is making it all up then it is based on fact. I dont see anything that he said which is pointless or misleading, he simply has a different opinion of the vehicle he drove than you do. Remember that many people are currently buying vehicles sight unseen.
  13. Ahhhhh, the red I wish I had...
  14. Make sure the locking wheel nut key is in the car before you set off.
  15. Obviously, I won't but some of our less capable English residents might well encounter that problem.
  16. https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/fabia/fab/2014-697/6/601-601060/#6 It looks like it's numbers 6,7,8 on this page, all have basically the same part number. Not sure why the last letter differs, hoping someone more knowledge can explain that and if/what the differences would be between them.
  17. Thanks - I was very pleased to get it since it was the only 4x4 petrol within my budget at the time. Got a great discount through an on-line broker too (who has since gone into administration!)
  18. To continue the theme, I think you mean - Do Scotland and Wales have Capitals? HTH
  19. This one says it's for 1st gen engine. EGR valve block plate 2.0L TDi CR VW Seat Skoda Audi Stainless Steel 1st Gen CR | eBay Check it's correct for your engine code.
  20. An effective offset of 26 (with the adaptor) with an 8.5 width shouts no unless you really want a fat stance. Put the figures into will they fit and then measure what you have already. I'd guess it would stick out too far.
  21. 'No thank you.' Pity. You don't know what you're missing.
  22. Update: Car had new clutch fitted last week and a loose bracket was not secured and was rubbing against the fan. Quick cheap fix thankfully. Thanks for all who commented.
  23. Don’t forget this forum as is any other car forum is where owners with problems turn for help. You don’t get many owners joining a forum to tell everyone how great their car is. Another thing to take into consideration is that of total Skoda sales, the few posts on here with perceived faults, some if which turn out to be operator error, are truly a small percentage.
  24. I know this is a Škoda site, but there still must be a little boy racer lurking somewhere in our collective DNA. I used to ride a motorcycle until four years ago. The best part (well, one of the many best parts) was being able to pass slower traffic at will. And, for that (when you are two-up and laden with luggage) you need power. In a car as heavy as a Škoda, you need loads. That doesn't make you a hooligan, it makes driving safer. (Honest, judge.) Who hasn't pulled out for a passing manoeuvre and wished your car had a little more guts? The thrill of that sudden pressure in the back. The relief that you were able to leave plenty of room behind you as you pulled back into your lane. Then the wife saying, "Slow down". This is a Škoda after all...
  25. Unfortunately plenty of people want a car that is full of 'features' and don't really care that it's not very good as a car.
  26. I love my Octavia. No real issues to be honest and certainly no more than and other new car.
  27. So just wanted to thank all that had input into my questions, I'm now the proud owner of a MK2 facelift 2.0tsi in race blue 👍 I went for a dsg in the end with full history and all the needed work done. Drives really nice, did 2 hours of constant driving last night in it and managed a boring 40mpg 😁
  28. Replace timing belt at 210000 kms for non dust rich countries. This is what my service manual says. No time interval is mentioned. My local Skoda dealer said the timing belt can last 10 years with no issues and that they never had snapped/broken belt. But the water pumps start to leak pretty often... They said that even the *fixed* water pumps start to leak after 4-5 years.
  29. Like Sneal I'm very happy with my Mk4 and came from the same type of Superb by the sounds of it. Yes the Superb was a bit more roomy but the Octy ticks all the boxes I need even with 3 teenage boys (2 over 6 feet) and a dog! I have driven a 3 series touring recently and whilst it was nicer to drive, (but it did have the option to change suspension settings which my Octy doesn't), nicer materials inside but it was way more expensive. I've had no issues with mine and it's a nice place to be in on journeys and well equipped. I suspect though with you comparing the £38k BMW demonstrator with the Skoda that you specced is not the best method as you're likely to get the Skoda at less than £38k through something like CarWow or Drive the Deal perhaps? I could be wrong, my wife usually tells me I am, but the Octavia gets a thumbs up from me.
  30. You have Bolero, not Amundsen 1) On MIB3 Bolero is actually Amundsen with locked navigation (hardware is the same). The only way to get navigation - is to buy SWAP code from your dealer (about 300 euro) 2) No SD cards. Only USB Type C. No way to get SD. 3) Wireless AA works in some countries. Not sure about Turkey. You need to talk with your local dealer. All MIB3 units (Bolero and higher) supports both wireless AA and wireless CarPlay. But in some countries they are locked (because of some local legal restrictions). For example here in Russia we have working wireless CarPlay, but wireless AA is locked.
  31. Thanks, it’s one of a few jobs where I thought it couldn’t have gone any better. 👍 Everthing I had read on the subject was doom and gloom too. But I thought it was worth a go once I found you could buy a repair kit. I should also say that the repair kit doesn’t offer you like for like cables. The is some deviation in colour (which is another reason why I joined the cables where I did so that anyone can trace the colour back), and there may be a slight difference in the gauge of cable as I couldn’t read what the originals are (but they look the same).
  32. https://digital-manual.skoda-auto.com/w/en_GB/show/e84c40f1e41dc424ac1445254a2bedb1_3_en_GB?ct=e84c40f1e41dc424ac1445254a2bedb1_3_en_GB#titled810850459e110992 There is somewhere the PDF version also.
  33. This guy didn't really know what he was talking about, as he didn't understand how part numbers work, so I stopped taking his advice. Also the aliexpress harness is not perfect. mine arrived. it has nothing designed to connect to the green double-fakra coax aerial connector on the tuner, it has 3x coax aerial cables all right, one too short to get to the back of the superb, another tied in along with the cables that go to the headunit (maybe in the golf one of the aerials is near the head unit?), so it's definitely not perfect for the superb. I will probably still use it to get from the tuner to the headunit, and one of the coax fakra cables is probably good. I started fitting the tuner unit today. start by putting the drivers seat (right hand drive car) all the way back, and also as high as the seat will go. then
  34. That HUAWEI dongle is a mobile to WiFi bridge, so it is WiFi. It has an admin address either listed in the manual or on it. On windows if you type ipconfig /all the WiFi connection will show you a default gateway IP address. That will almost certainly be the mifi dongle IP address, which will present a management page if you type it into a browser. As for 802.11ac, I doubt the 3G version of the dongle does that, more likely N. If the laptop is ac then yes it’s backward compatible.
  35. The assumption of people tuning their cars in order to be hitting higher top speeds or even speeds above the NSL is always amusing, but unless in Germany it's far from reality. It's mostly about the rate and ease of acceleration rather than anything else, 70, 60 or 40mph he will be getting to it faster than before for whatever reason, simples. On to the actual topic now, Map 2 is more than fine, still less strong than a typical remap in terms of boost, timing etc. I see no reason why you shouldn't just leave it to that setting unless you were getting error codes or weird behaviour, just enjoy it!
  36. OnePlus 7T. Works fine but I prefer just to use the phone part of the infotainment system, I don't bother with Android Auto, nor Google Maps for directions. Both work OK but I use the radio and my music is on a 128Gb SD card, and I use the inbuilt navigation.
  37. Bought the clear coat but not applied yet, here’s some before and after photos of some good cleaning. So if yours look grim it’s not game over for them
  38. Also a new model iphone SE.
  39. I can only recall seeing one member on here with a 1.4TSI having reported a water pump failure - there is no comparison with the water pump failure rate on the 2.0, and since the water pump is on the opposite end of the engine replacing it is a much simpler/cheaper/quicker job. I'm all for preventative maintenance (which is why I had the cambelt on our 1.4TSI replaced last year when it was 5 years old) but since the failure rate of water pumps on the 1.4TSI is so low the expense of preventative replacement seems out of proportion to the risks to me.
  40. Quartz grey basking in the sun
  41. Yes I have been thinking about that recently and decided to change them for flip flops 😅
  42. Not sure where you aiming with this question...
  43. Quartz grey basking in the sun
  44. Same not driven it yet haha, hopefully get out in it end of next week.
  45. First impressions: car feels pretty good, cornering is good, brakes are good, steering is numb as any electric one nowdays, engine feels powerful, dsg is ok, nothing more, once it finds right gear it goes, before that it does take some time. we did almost 200km today after getting the car, i managed to push just around 170km/h, felt like nothing, i wanted more but saw police in waze and here we can only drive 90km/h. interior seems fine for price, audio system is afterthought, they probably spent more time to create fake sound instead of making canton something more than stock sound system, that being said i do not think it is worth to get it, now, my favourite topic- all these aids: lane keep assist - it is annoying, we have pretty bad roads, so we do try to avoid some bad spots going around them and then car thinks i am falling asleep, and it starts to correct me, that is something i would like to keep off all the time for my own safety and my nerves. next, emergency braking, i did not got any input from car other than flashing warning when i stopped aggressively after another car, but that is how we drive, so if that thing does not brake it is ok, it can flash i dont care about that, ACC- that i liked, a lot, takes time to adjust myself and get used to controls but they are fine, and car seems to understand everything there, that is smart feature, seats- after volvo, i could not find comfy position after 200km, will try tomorrow again, memory function is a bit dumb tho- in order to get to my settings i have to hold my assigned number, pressing is not good enough. sound isolation, it is just ok, obviously not german quality but i will not travel 200km/h every day. start stop - seems that this feature can be on, does not bother me much, works fine. Tried to figure out PROFILES, since we will be 2 drivers, so tried to see if there is point to have them if they save seats/mirros, nothing worked yet, again will try tomorrow and see, since we had both keys in car gas tank size is joke, not a deal braker but comparing to old cars 68L this is meh. fake sound is - meh, i have it in normal mode as well. things that i really like, digital dash is amazing, even waze navigation shows up there, BTW- android auto wireless, works flawless. i had issues opening trunk with my feet, not sure why, i thing i have to learn that magic spot.. ========== Overall i am happy, especially considering price of the car. seems like a lot of things that are not so good, but i do understand that its 2021 and aids are there because people stopped thinking at some point so cars have to do that for us, and sound isolation etc, well i did pay just 30k, so that is ok. i would suggest this car for this price range for sure. its midnight and it has been a long day, just wanted to give my opinion, i hope this is understandable i have sold my DSLR so my phone photo skills are what they are
  46. My new stick is dual A and C, the old one was only USB-A, connected with the Skoda adapter (part number 000 051 443 J) As I'm switching cars 3 or 4 times a week, I allways have a USB-A to C cable with me and the extra adapter if I need C to C. Haven't had any issues yet with cars not accepting my USB drive to play music. As mentioned by PJVRS, Sandisk is the way to go for compatibility. grts Wes
  47. STG 09 - for my car it says stationary cornering light or something like that. In German it'll say statisches kurvenlicht.
  48. Here're some pictures with the old vents. You have to pry the tabs with a long thin flat crew driver. It's not always easy to squeeze the screwdriver in the tab. When it's in, you pry it open. The good news is that as you change whole vent, it's not a big deal if you over-bend / brake the tabs. Fitting back the new vent is just pushing them back in place
