  1. 2021 update OK, so slow progress for many reasons, but still tinkering with this one. Believe it of not, the engine is actually in the hole.. Fluids going in... Nice shiny mounts and solid shifter cable bushings.. Air intake and shield Interior back out as laying in the full Ibiza harness for total integration Kinda looking the part now. Cruise control (of course) Climatronic heating system in place and heated seat harness fitted One day it will be done, just don't ask me which one.
  2. I have previously advised new Karoq owners how to download copies of the owner's manual, and that it contained much more information about the infotainment systems fitted to their cars. But today I have discovered that Skoda have changed their website so that PDF copies of the owner's manual are no longer provided. Instead all you can do is read a digital version on screen. I have objected about this to their 'Chat' Customer Services agent who confirms this, but suggests I might be able to download a PDF copy to my phone! And since this would be pretty unreadable, hopefully copy it to my PC, and then save it out or print a copy for reference! This seems to be making owner's manuals very user UNfriendly to me, and another case of Skoda being Simply Silly! So If you need reference material about your present or new Skoda, be prepared to have to read a digital copy on screen rather than get a PDF copy to read at your leisure! Chris PS: Having now accessed the owner's manual on my phone, I see that there is no way to download a PDF copy that way. Perhaps I'm too 'old-school' but I much prefer to have paper copies to browse and refer to that have to navigate digital copies of manuals. Hell I can even remember getting my first IBM PC at work with Windows 3 on it, and opening a box with a shelf-full of A5 manuals to go with it!
  3. Driving the South West Coastal 300 today. (Scotland South West). Did 150 mile drive to the south to start the journey. Free charge before setting off, charging now before doing the SWC 300, maybe another charge for free during the day in 3 hours or so, then another tonight while the football is on. Free is even better than much cheapness. Taking advantage while public charging stays free in some areas. EDIT.
  4. After 9 month of living hell the dealer is taking the car back. Had all fault included faulty lane- and brake assistant that almost crashed the car several times. This is my Skoda number 5, never had any major issues before. My car got all updates, but things just got more and more horrible. Wish all of you luck, you will need it.
  5. Ah, the standard reply from Skoda no matter what the query. I wouldn't hold your breath.
  6. Thanks AJ. You can call it bad luck, but it's bad design more like. A trawl around the various VAG forums will show you that Turbo Actuator failure is a regular occurrence on the 1.2 TSI in SEAT, VW, SKoda, etc - but I was more surprised when the much more modern 1.0 did it too. I've never heard anything bad about the short-lived engine variant you have, indeed I'd much rather have that than the 1.0, but the previous (pre 2015) 1.2 was somewhat notorious. This retired gent has had 2 fail on brand new cars inside the guarantee period and is unimpressed. Hard to say this, given that I aspired to own new VW group cars for a long time, but they less reliable than anything I've had in the previous 40 years. OK... except the MG Metro. That did its turbo at about 22k, but in my defence I was 21 at the time and thrashed it
  7. I have no idea, feeling like they are consumable parts. Hope the rest on my car could last a considerable time. If not, I will try change earlier after like reduced mpg, rough idle, annoying noise and shake on idle happen almost at same time again.
  8. Well, my local garage does this to stop it draining the battery when they leave the car engine off, ignition on during service.
  9. Unfortunately VCDS can't open all modules on new Octavia (waiting for the new VCDS version). I will post my modules with versions as soon as I find my old laptop with windows.
  10. With the AC on check the temperature in the vent outlets which, depending on the ambient temps, should be around 8-12c. If the outlet temps are any higher then the gas charge might be low & it probably has a leak somewhere. Note that legally nobody should just add more refrigerant to any system without having 1st done a pressure & leak test on the system (environmental legislation punishable by substantial fines up to £200k under F-Gas regulations). https://www.coolingpost.com/uk-news/200000-fines-f-gas-violations/ A nitrogen pressure test will find any leaks (luminous dye additives may help for small leaks). Any found leaks must then be repaired or parts replaced followed by pulling a vacuum on the system to dehydrate the system. A vacuum of at least 300microns or better still 500microns / 29.92Hg should be held (with the vac pump off) for at least 1hr, although most Auto AC tech's would only hold the vacuum for a few minutes before recharging the system. As such only a fully qualified Auto AC technician should carry out this work.
  11. It is not available to download as a pdf from the Skoda site but it is available from here :- https://carmanuals2.com/get/skoda-karoq-2021-owner-s-manual-116538
  12. Hi, Not sure if you got this sorted. Having been through similar crap Skoda service with a brand new lease. If it’s a lease car you should ignore Skoda and raise the issue direct with the lease company (not the broker. The actual underwriters). Don’t let them fob you off (they did the same to me). It’s their responsibility and raise it in writing. You’ve reported it within 6 months. They have one chance to repair it without causing you significant inconvenience. Otherwise pursue rejecting the vehicle is your right under the CRA act. Especially since it’s a pretty major fault as it’s currently not driveable and your new car doesn’t only need a new clutch it’s now got casing damage caused by the fault. The fact it’s a wear and tear item is their only defence but at 2k miles and less than 6 months plus an expert paid diagnostics they don’t have a leg to stand on. Skoda won’t budge until the lease company pressures them and they will only do that if you exercise for your legal rights with them. At which point you’ll start getting emails from Skoda fleet customer services most likely. Try to avoid phone calls. If you do get one request they summarise with an email. If you don’t receive it within the hour send them an email politely summarising all the key points in the call. That way there’s a simple trail of events in writing. Good luck. Remember Skoda know your not the owner of the car. If it ends up in court your just going to get it thrown out because they don’t have to legally do anything for you. Leasing isn’t the same as financing a car. Hope something in this post helps.
  13. With the hotspot disabled it won't work. As for the support by the car, I don't know, all I know is that it works on my 2020 Scala with Bolero.
  14. My first (air-cooled) Beetle had a valve MW/LW Motorola radio, while my MGTD didn't bother with radios or heaters!!
  15. I would suggest you ask on the Ross-Tech forum, they will ask for a full VCDS Auto-Scan and I would suggest you also post an adaptation channel map so they can see what adaptation channels exist in the engine ECU you have - not all engine ECUs have the same adjustments possible.
  16. It will definitely have a DPF unless it's been removed. All 2.0 PD BMM 4x4's, Scouts and Vrs did. Also the code for a DPF should be 7GG (not 0GG as above) - it'll be on a sticker to the rear of the footwell or in the 3 letter codes in the front of the service book. Things to look out for at that age - worn propshaft doughnuts giving vibration at around 2300rpm in higher gears, worn wheel bearings, worn engine / gearbox mounts and burst turbo outlet pipes in my experience. Plus the usual diamond cut alloy issues. Other than that they are a great solid car (we've only just traded in our 07 2.0 PD 4x4)

Wasn't prying have enough 'reasons' going on myself these days... Good luck with the move
  18. Update: SkodaNZ and I have settled my claim for the water pump issue prior to the scheduled Disputes Tribunal hearing next week. SNZ have agreed to pay 50% of my costs, which are the water pump repair itself and the inter-related out-of-pocket expenses. This is in advance of the compensation agreed between the US class action case litigants and VW I mentioned in an earlier post. Quite what prompted this offer I am not sure but a a colleague of mine once said "A complaint is an opportunity". It is something I have always remembered. I therefore commend SNZ for turning my complaint into a complement (from me) for the way they eventually handled the matter. I can now re-bury some of the gold bars I initially dug up to pay for the incident. (Note to self - When drawing up a map this time remember to add 'X marks the spot'!) Smellysocks: Any news on your problem / situation?
  19. My Scout is an '07 and according to its option codes (7GG) has a DPF fitted. Note I have corrected the option code from 0GG to 7GG (thanks @skomaz) - I think I need new glasses!
  20. If you click on the link I gave you it will take you to the parts catalogue.
  21. I love the MY21 Sportline I have currently, and as @croquemonsieur has already mentioned that grill is a hard pass for me.

I attempted to remove the silica bag last weekend and quickly reached this conclusion. Having watching a video as well, there is no way I’d be risking fixing the bag out the filler opening. Especially when you don’t know the state of the bag. If it’s already started to split slightly, forcing it through is only going to end one way. I’ll be removing the header tank instead.
  23. Many thanks to both of you
  24. Maybe, but I doubt I'll ever get to prefer the new front end, I really do like the current design. I've had occasional passing thoughts about changing my MY19 SE 1.0 DSG technology earlier than my usual 6-8year stint with any one car, for a newer Karoq, what with the mild hybrid DSG that's coming + incorporating adjustable dampers, 360* vision, traffic assist and lots of other goodies, but that new grill is dampening those urges just now.
  25. Hi @noli You can check instructions in this thread
  26. As a pc gamer , i get regular patches to games like MS Flight sim 2020. They tell you in the patch release what they fixed and what fixes are scheduled. Wouldn't it be good to know that info for our cars
  27. I can tell you’re a mere youngster as you didn’t mention 8-track or in-car 45rpm disc players!
  28. I don't really experience any of this, as in there is some usual wind noise but nothing bad. Anyway it seems that you guys aren't the only ones suffering. There is even a dedicated thread to in on briskoda. For some guys it's small window seal issues causing it.
  29. I recently bought GoodYear EfficientGrip Performance 2 with SoundComfort technology and it really helps with tyre noise, wind noise is now biggest factor of noise.
  30. Bring back the cassette player.
  31. Original rear wing from Croatia Octavia cup car is ready, painted, grinded and polished, ceramic Gtechniq Crystal ultra serum and hydrophobic coating to come before installation.
  32. Id also like to say thanks to all the posters of this forum for there valuable input. Ive een a long time lurker here for the last 5 years since i sold my old 1.6tdi Fabia estate and got myself a Citroen DS3 dsport 1.6eHDI. The 2.0TDI 150ps engine is perfect in the octy estate just enough power to be fun whilst still maintaining its furgal economy.

Yes, take the tank out (5 min job) and then you can be as rough as you like with needle nose pliers butchering the bag until you get it. Give it a rinse under the tap if the bag splits before re-fitting the tank. I wouldn't risk fishing it out in situ in case you split it. It wouldn't take much of the granules to block a heater matrix I wouldn't have thought.

I'm picking mine up at 11am tomorrow
  35. The piccy is the parts diagram for a 2012 Yeti, which may help you identify the bits that need attention. The link to the parts catalogue entry is included below. https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/yeti/yet/2012-666/9/941-941000/
  36. Not much chance of a sunset this evening, but will settle for avoiding the rain!! There are some talented people around
  37. The Octy had its software update today, which for some reason Skoda calls a campaign. The main issue was the inability to store favourites and this has been fixed. I had none of the issues other forum members have reported and am now even more pleased with the Octy than I was beforehand, as the tiny glitches did not spoil my enjoyment of the car. In fact I have rediscovered my enjoyment of motoring after the rather bland Karoq. If this is of any interest, the software reference is 1788 and the navigation database is 21.3. I'm sorry to hear that other owners have rejected their iV's as now Skoda seem to have rectified all the problems. In my case, although there were a few early issues, most were my fault as although the handbook is written in good English, the instructions are not very clear. It's a case of trial and error, so for example I've now been able to load all my favourite DAB radio stations. It's kind of intuitive, but I would not recommend the latest generation of Skodas to anyone who is not computer literate! Thanks to the Sales Manager at Derek Slack Motors, I've also discovered Zap Map and Pod Point today, which identify free charge points. 70% of Pod Point chargers are free and are located at supermarkets, visitor attractions and so on. Ideal for a day out as the iV has a 13.5 KWhr battery and an onboard 3.5KW charger. A few hours enjoying oneself and a free journey home! I saw an Enyaq too, but that's better for another thread - just to say I prefer the PHEV concept for now, but it's a lovely car.
  38. Thanks,I'll update when there's progress.
  39. Project 4x4 fabia is coming along, bumpers and wings not in final position just positioned for effect
  40. If you don't get a response from the dealership (or agent representing the seller you entered the financial agreement with) in a 'reasonable' amount of time, write back to them stating what you want, in that further to your previous communication dated ***, 1, An independent evaluation has found and stated in writing that the operation of the clutch system was defective and the fault has been identified with the mechanism outside of the excluded wearing parts listed in the vehicle warranty statement and present since the vehicle was built/prior to your ownership. 2, Under terms of the warranty, you expect the defective parts to be repaired or replaced and all other parts damaged as a consequence of the parts failure to be replaced at no further cost to yourself. 3, You allow them a stated time period to respond to the request with an appropriate plan of action (1 week from the date of the email/letter for example) 3a, (optional) You require a courtesy vehicle whilst yours is Off Road. (If you have one of theirs, it can speed up their decision making process) 4, If they fail to acknowledge the defect was present when the vehicle was built within the time stated or they fail to commit to carry out the repair to meet your reasonable expectations, state that you will make arrangement for the repair to be made elsewhere but you will seek to recover through legal means (Small claims court) ANY out of pocket expenses such as the cost of the repair, vehicle recovery services moving the vehicle to another repairer, time spent dealing with this issue at national minimum hourly wage rates, documented phone calls, costs of reasonable alternative transport arrangements made (bus, taxi, hire car, fuel@45p/mile and time of somebody else moving you about). Make a detailed record of your time and expenses accumilated whilst dealing with this since you presented the vehicle to them on day one of the failure. The more you detail, the more pressure you put on them to sort it out as they can see your costs are escalating. Don't get angry with them, it doesn't help. Be prepared to do what you state in writing to them otherwise they will not fulfil your expectations.
  41. You will find that the 1.0tsi is really improved if you use super unleaded. It pulls much better at lower revs. Surprisingly I have found 99ron seems to improve mileage by about 11-13% in mixed driving which offsets its extra cost
  42. I want to confirm, that wireless Android Auto does work on a phone with Android 8,i have a Samsung Galaxy A7 2017,but i had to activate developer option on phone and enable wireless projection in Android Auto settings.
  43. I forgot to mention a barometer for those who need to check the weather outside the car without looking through a window, an inclinometer (for those who need to look at a dial to check if the car is falling on its side) and how about a decelerometer for those who need to know the G-force experienced when they crashed into something because they were too busy looking at all the gauges? Saabs had a panel light switch that at night turned all dash lights off except the speedometer, and even that had the higher speed markings blacked out. Driving at night was so much easier and safer with barely any internal lighting or reflections. The ABS tyre pressure system is fine. if you really need to know what your tyre pressures are then stop, wait for the tyres to go cold, then use a decent pressure gauge.
  44. I ran a VW UP 1.0 Tsi 90 to over 40k miles mapped to 143 bhp and I think I used 1/2 litre of oil in 4 years of hard use. No problems at all, cracking little engine.
  45. Latest Updated Speedcams - June, 2021. Here's the latest update of my customised version of EUR Speedcams ( June, 2021). They consist of the full EUROPE speed cameras which I've split up into four consolidated poi categories i.e. Fixed Speedcams, Average Speedcams, Variable Speedcams and Redlight Speedcams. They come supplied with my own preferred personal choice of icons, shown below, to match each of the categories. Remember to Install them as I explained in the first post in this thread i.e. after extracting the zip file remember to open the newly extracted folder and place only the PersonalPOI folder and metainfo2.txt file onto your sd card ( Please Note: a usb stick will not work! ). Also, please remember to select/tick the relevant newly added poi categories and the poi audible warning alert in your infotainment map menu settings after performing the update or they will not display on your map or audibly alert you. Hope you all enjoy them! EUR Speedcams June, 2021.zip

Coasting function can be disabled (turned off). And when functioning and you want off then touch the accelerator, or a wee tap of the brake, or maybe drop a gear to decelerator. Best saying what engine and gearbox you have so that people know.
  47. So in my case it was faulty pin in ECU connector.
  48. Few more updates on the project... Made some shifter cable bracket bush replacements up, still not 100% sure why, just felt like a cool thing to do. Originally I had this running on a hybrid Ibiza/Fabia wiring harness, but I had decided (for a few reasons) to go full Ibiza and adapt to Fabia components where required. So out comes the dash (again). Crash bar out of the way, heater box out. Replaced the heater matrix on the Ibiza heater box, just as a precaution. Adapted the inlet an outlet with the 1.2/1/4 petrol adapter. Means you haven't got to deal with the crappy aluminium connection of the big block engines. Climatronic heater box lined up. All being well dome real progress being made this weekend, depends on how bloomin cold it is.
