  1. So FINALLY!! The check valve at the start of the vacuum line was the culprit, it was partially blocked and while the line does go to full vacuum, it is slow to build up and it meant the turbo actuator would be slow to move and go outside of spec. I'm guessing the failing egr cooler diaphragm (replacing this on a 4x4 is not for the faint hearted) is allowing contamination into the line and travelling all the way back to the valve and luckily building up there and not damaging the vacuum pump. Hopefully this will all help someone else in the same boat down the line.
  2. I think there will be no advantage from having larger battery.
  3. Afternoon all. So tried unlocking and locking numerous times in rain and in dry, in daylight and darkness. Nothing. Right worried and checking out the best the internet has to offer. Drew blanks. Then my neighbour called a friend who runs a Vw specialist about a possible manual override and he said ‘sounds stupid but try pressing the unlock on the fob five times in quick succession’. Im laughing a little as I work in IT and have told people before equally daft fixes. But Christ on a bike it worked. Genuinely tried so many unlocks and locks but never quickly pressing unlock only over and over. Worked though haha. Phew!

  5. Everyone tells me these cars are “like hens’ teeth” I’m not the person who has had one for sale for five weeks
  6. Yeah there in theory shouldn't be a need to handle the fix yourself. I think I speak (type?) for us all when we want you to succeed. So please keep us updated and we'll all give any info if needed in support.
  7. 1964 Aston on the Hailsham by-pass earlier this afternoon: Glorious 😎 Gaz
  8. 1) the rear beam is not interchangeable. While dimensions and mounting points are similar, hatchback/estate has coilover dampers, so there are no spring cups on the beam itself. Regarding the VAG parts, only stub axles are comatible with VW models. The pickup was also sold as Caddy Pickup, so try to look up that model, too.
  9. Greta won't approve that, I'm sure. 😉
  10. development engineers have moved the three-way catalytic converter and gasoline particulate filter close to the engine in a single emission control module, thereby further improving the efficiency of the emission control system.19 Jul 2022
  11. Which engine do you really have? I don't think there's any Fabia with a 1.3 engine.
  12. Hmmm maybe something worh checking out but I doubt it since this is an low pressure system. I takes the exhaust after DPF and routes it before the turbo I made a new thread about this since i basically highjacked this one 🙈 maybe throw some ideas there 😁 and thank you for your help! https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/511732-mk3-vrs-tdi-starting-problem/
  13. A lot of people don't have the skills, interest or time to keep old cars going. And of course, they have to keep up with the Joneses who have a shiny new white-goods pile of pap on the drive.
  14. Hi I think I've solved it, I tried all positions speeds etc to no avail, I put a code reader in - no error codes recorded, however I went to euro car parts and got a new pollen filter and took the old one out, wow what a state that was in, so I put new pollen filter in and everything seems fine, do glad I haven't taken the heater apart but we'll see how we go from here. Also headlight wasn't clipped in correctly, they are awkward following the manual but I found that pressing the bulb in the correct position hard it makes a positive click!
  15. Just looking up Tayna batteries and I see varooom already has, I wish I could read faster. I note the list shows E44 VARTA SILVER DYNAMIC CAR BATTERY 77AH (577400078) (096) which is 278x175x190, 77Ah, 780 CCA EN [A]. When required and before you get warning lights and messages or battery difficulties you could if required use an appropriate battery charger and maintainer to charge the battery which depending on your car and electrical use you might need or want to use at some stage(s) regardless of how big the battery is. For the car's 'Owner's Manual' (if that's what you meant) you can download a free Skoda pdf from this link. - https://manual.skoda-auto.com/004/en-com/Models If you read the 'Owner's Manual' and refer to it even for what might seem very simple and obvious things then despite this being your first car you will know more about it than many long term owners and some at Dealerships and garages. First car or had many cars it usually pays not to assume and to ask questions to confirm what you might think you already know (or have forgot more than once if you're old). Good luck.
  16. https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/oem/000915105dg This is the OEM number for the battery that most likely was fitted from new 000 915 105 DG I suspect someone dropped in a battery just to flog it, but would need a VIN lookup check to assume I was correct. https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/types/096/ You want to choose "Wet" as you say you don't have EFB/AGM (stop/start batteries) I would stick to around 70-72Ah area if you do upgrade, as no sense fitting a 77Ah monster that might not be any use overall.

Best way is to not get too attached, it's a means of getting you from A-B safely.
  18. If there were snow on the ground, I might have nipped out in the Karoq to see if it would also perform lovely pirouettes from an application of the electric parking brake...
  19. As varooom has put plus don't get too tied into big numbers, do you have a photo of current and/or proposed batteries or make and model number of proposed battery?

I love the car, just not the MPG haha 😆 Hence I'm here. It's a nice car, nothing special but does what I need it to do!
  21. ..would be surprised if the camshaft seal is part of timing change kit??
  22. Without the engine running, I don't think there will be an issue. At the same time, my experience handbrake turning my Yeti in the snow, suggests that applying the handbrake decouples drive to the rear.
  23. You're welcome, I ordered on the 4th March and it was delivered in the 13th for reference.
  24. Hi The 2.0 TDI . Done 85000 miles variable oil service intervals recently done. Noticed the temp whilst going through Spain. So the dial gauge is water temp? Hence the difference. Level is ok. Though checking hot does give a higher level. Cheers
  25. Thanks, it works with the browser addon.
  26. Check the spark plugs, the throttle, the Lambda sensor, change gas station for 1-2 times, change the engine oil-oil filter. By the way charge your battery too and when everything is checked make a journey with high rpm.
  27. Your mention of Sport mode reminded me of this topic: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/495154-superb-mk3-epc-and-faults-advice-needed/
  28. It sounds like you've fixed it already, if it's still thirsty then you should probably replace the MAF altogether since cleaning is rarely effective and twelve years is a ripe old age for one.

  30. Philips Racing Vision GT200 for me. Took a bit of sussing it out, but then I change motorcycle bulbs as well, so used to limited space for my big hands.
  31. Visited Shugborough Hall yesterday (ancestral home of Patrick Lichfield) - definitely a day for reflections.
  32. Check the brake vacuum piping, start at the servo, look/ feel for splits at all ends/joints right up to the inlet manifold. There will be a one way plastic valve half way and the piping often splits there too. The hard pipe splits longitudinally from an end, of you can move/ rotate the pipe from the joint, it is splitand allowing air into the intake manifold, upsetting the petrol/air ratio. This causes loss of power and stalling issues particularly when pressing the brake pedal which might go "hard" prematurely. Gradients and accel/decel will rock the engine and the piping move, any splits open up. As for windows ,check loom condition in the rubber gaitors between the doors and pillars, pull the gaitos back and inspect. Check all doors. Both issues are inevitable with age.
  33. Yes opening fine just now mate but wait till it freezing lol.

  35. Here's a video of mine (pre facelift). Ignition and lights all off. Just headlight flasher operating. You can hear the invertor/ballasts running too: flash.mp4
  36. The sensor/switch is built into the latch itself yeah would need replacing as a whole if that is the actual faulty part.
  37. I'm an absolute convert to Google maps using USB connection and Android Auto; can't say how many time the live updates have helped and of course it is the same map settings as all my other Android or Google-using devices As for dogs we chose the Kamiq specifically to accommodate one boisterous black labrador plus one Norfolk terrier who over last 30 months have driven length and breadth of UK in comfort and safety. One piece of advice, get a bespoke dog guard
  38. An update on the topic for you, it has been a whole week since the body was cleaned, and I've done a fair bit of driving in that week, in traffic with the stop/start performing absolutely brilliantly, not missing a beat, stops instantly with no rough shudder and starts the same way. Power delivery is also perfectly smooth when pulling away from stationary, and the idle is once again nice at 800rpm. So the video I found on YT was correct and also a big thank you to DEL80Y, it really was just the throttle body that needed cleaning.
  39. A dog should fit. It's lower than some SUVs so less height to get the dog into the boot. Probably be better with boot floor in upper (level with access) level rather than low. So make sure you check it with floor at correct height. Apple / Google maps is fine as long as it has android auto etc, just plug in phone with short usb cable. (Wireless for maps was only added more recently). The built in navigation is not online (or for newer cars, just for 1 year, then offline unless pay extortionate renewal fee, so many revert to phone based maps anyway).
  40. I've no idea what particular hub is needed but this vendor would know if this is suitable https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/5k0498621-front-rear-wheel-hub-with-bearing-fag-14398.html If you register for the skoda-parts.com website, you can add a single VIN to your "garage" and see whether specific parts will fit your car. And if you use the email address on homepage that goes to a UK based English speaking agent (Patrick Rice) who is extremely helpful and knowledgeable and can clarify if there are any ambiguities as to whether the parts fit your exact car. They are far cheaper than you can buy in the UK even allowing for cost of delivery and often offer full range of options from Chinese knock-offs to genuine manufacturer original parts via various OEM manufactured parts. Just need to be careful you keep order value for parts below £136 (from recollection) limit. Below that, no extra customs charges to pay, the price you see (plus carriage) is what you pay to get it door to door. Above the limit you will be hit with additional customs charges, import duty etc (not VAT, that's already paid for at source which is why there is this initial "duty free" band). So, with likely cost of two hubs might be cheaper to place two separate orders despite the second €14,52 delivery charge (which can get delivery next day if you catch it right)
  41. You can get replacements on eBay. I bulked at the delivery cost, mind you: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/275400957002?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Ds5K48dERmW&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=bT8y9cScQIG&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Sounds like the fog lights will be good in fog then when visibility is less than 100 metres, help you see the side of the road, not shine back on you like full beam on does, and others might see you better with sidelight, dipped beam and fog lights. As to the headlights and dipped and full beam that will need a bulb change to maybe get more lighting.
  43. Picked it up yesterday, now the slow process of bedding it in begins 😬
  44. Never managed to get the right ones. Luckily I found my originals. You could maybe get them at a breakers yard.
  45. I found it on skoda website part number 3B0 941 160 B. It is listed as fitting fabia and rooster FL but it fits octavia 2 just as well. Road lights H7 light bulb. Just in case anyone else is in need. It's cheap as chips under 2 euro but delivery is 15 euro so best to combine with other items I suppose
  46. Even if you turn off the voice prompt, you, still have the button on the steering wheel to initiate voice commands. That works ok and you can long press it for Siri if using an iPhone. That being said, although I really enjoy driving the car, I still have a bit of buyers regret and wish sometimes I’d stuck with my 2017 Yeti until they got all the bugs out.
  47. You can control the heating easily and it is dual zone. It's difficult to use it for anything else on the move. If the radio is on, leave it on, you can select stations and volume form the steering wheel. My backlight is set to 50% and I don't need to change it. Anything else needs a passenger to sort out.
