  1. 😊 Thanks for asking. 'New' engine is serving us very well. Done a couple of little jobs on it very recently, Coolant temperature sensor (2004 vintage) started throwing fault codes and a warning light last week - proud of the missus for scanning it while out and about with handheld tool that lives in the glovebox. That got swapped out for another I had sitting around. Faults gone. While doing that I noticed that the little heatshield on the exhaust manifold was hanging on by one screw, so I bunged a replacement on yesterday. MOT a month back mentioned (nothing but) deterioration of the fuel hose that I'd replaced (with new, generic) at the time of the swap. Tester said he himself was struggling to find aftermarket stuff that didn't crack, and to let him know if I found anything decent! I decided to grab a genuine replacement from Skoda, hopefully that won't go the same way. About another 5k til the car passes 200k miles, I think. Oh, and a nice man in a big van came and took away all my scrap metal for me on Saturday, including the old engine, after I'd stripped it of all the possibly useful bits. 😁

Yes bud no modding needed just thread the emergency pull cord into the boot. If you pull the boot liner back you can see the filler.

The recent replacement of the wiring loom on my drivers door remains entirely successful with no glitches having appeared in the weeks since. Very pleasing and encourages me to hang on to the car (I did think it might have been the start of a downhill slope and ongoing faults appearing, but apparently not). I would even go so far as to say if the DSG needd attention at some point I would probably try to seek the best place to have it fixed and would pay to have it done in order to keep the car as long as possible. My indie tells me it wants new brakes fairly soon but not straight away (the original brakes from new) and he said he would fix a tiny oil leak on the timing chain cover when he has the car. I can live with that. BUT. In connection with a choice of replacement, should the need arise .... as I might have mentioned, I have no wish (at the moment, anyway) to give my local VW dealer, with his pointy shoe salesmen, any more of my money and preferred the reception received at the Kia dealer, directly opposite them. I did, twice, try to get in and out of the Toyota Yaris Cross in the dealer's showroom but the bottom edge of the steering wheel prevented easy ingress, which was a shame, It was mainly my fault for wishing to have the driver's seat up high. If it was lower I could have got in and out more easily. However Toyota make a thing called the Corolla Cross and if they ever import it into the UK I would go and have a look in the hope there was a bit more room under the steering wheel and a bit more legroom to stretch out a bit. Other countries have it, but not us. The dealer said it's due to come, but has no other information. The Mrs. likes the shape of it, and that's half the battle isn't it?

That’s why I fitted the one in my link it has the emergency pull cord.

IMHO at the very least there should be an emergency manual release - like on my ex's Mk1 Fabia where you could access the lock via an access hatch in the boot.
  6. Just picked up my car today and had a look the software number is 1900
  7. So was mine and it had been fault free so far.
  8. Firm, not crashy, the handling however is completely transformed!

Finally the car is here! Can't wait to get the keys. 🥳
  10. There's only two buttons on the scan tool. 😁 Total milage since car was built; only done about 15-20k since transplant, at a guess.
  11. This - to me - sounds like the window drop feature used on cars with frameless windows. The window tucks up under the seal when closed. To open or close the door though, the window needs to be dropped. A completely pointless feature on the Superb, which has a frame.
  12. @L_W Are you certain your vehicle is not fitted with front assist - I thought this feature was a standard fitting - Is there a small square sensor mounted in the centre of your front grill? The behaviour you describe sounds exactly like the front radar is sensing something and momentarily applying full ABS braking.

In case anyone is still interested - the CAM/ Crank relationship for the CJZC series is shown in this capture I took from my car using a TiePie oscilloscope. Might help someone diagnose cam and crank signals in the future. Signal is sampled from backprobing the 60 pin connector on the PCM J623. Thanks to Varoom for the info. BTW Erwin got back to me and confirmed that Australian individuals are locked out of Erwin by the direction of Skoda Australia - I have lodged a complaint with the appropriate anti monopoly authorities - not holding my breath.
  14. I can send you a possible update, it will either work or not as their updates are weird to say the least.
  15. Following on from yesterday’s post in “recently washed” it’s obviously rained less than 24 hours later so…
  16. The ride on the B12 setup is like the standard VRS but with really good damping, so getting slightly airborne means a no bounce landing, since you have a RARB already you'll be cocking a wheel in no time!
  17. Will take a look, many thanks! The whole doors are dead, no power to anything, mirrors, indicators, windows or locks.
  18. Yup. I would never use the apps as u have no idea wat the app is doing to achieve it's target. I'd rather do each bit step by step, so I know exactly wat has been changed. Plenty have used apps with no issues. Just as many have used apps with adverse side effects, and being unable to reverse the changes out completely. End of the day - tis ur car, ur choice.
  19. Thanks! Update was successful.

I think the problem is there is no clarity from Skoda - Most businesses won't stomach rental cars for any period of time leaving people in the lurch having to choose something that is in stock when they ordered in good time. I'm not sure when we came to accept 18+ month waits for what is essentially an everyday car. It isn't hand built and it isnt a Lambo. My last Octavia vRS was a factory order in 2016 and that arrived within 7 weeks. i've been lucky that someone ordered a top spec Cupra Formentor hybrid and couldn't fulfill in the end so i went from being cancelled to being in that in about 3 weeks. If they can't make the looms or whatever excuse it us they need to move production elsewhere.
  21. It is an Etch Primer you need first and very lightly applied. Then the primer lightly applied, more is not better. More prep is more important than loads of coats.
  22. Give it a minute, the DSG will soon be malfunctioning again, it's their default state... Such bad gearboxes.
  23. Mine have never rattled either. Is yours fully closed? Chris
  24. We reloaded the firmware for this chap, and his German language was gone at the end, he could change to English afterwards. You need to be able to find out what firmware is currently loaded, and then you also need to be able to burn a CD. Then a firmware file can be sent for you to try and load. If that fails, as mentioned by pab567, you will need someone to wipe the storage chip.
  25. Unfortunately being able to unplug makes no difference if you can not get your charge port near to plug in at an neighbouring bay or maybe behind the charger and plenty of places where you can get to behind the charge are not where you are allowed to charge at. I am charging in what is marked as the disabled bay, but many seem to not see the marking on the ground before driving in. The cables reach around to the bays behind the charger which is good as others can wait for the charger to become available.
  26. It's the problem with CCS plug. The locking is controlled by the car. (I think) all cars apply same locking strategy as Type 2 cable. Chademo plug is controlled by the charger. So I was able to get a charge once at Ikea (back when Ecotricity owned it) once Outlander PHEV finished charging. Charge complete, plug unlocks, double parking bay means second user can plug in and start another session. I whole heartedly agree it should be mandated to unlock on charging completion, and/or idle fees should apply when charge rate slows below certain point (eg. 6 kW). There must also be 7 kW slow destination posts nearby though, in case people want to charge to 100%. As toot said, location location location. If rapid charger are randomly installed into car parks, it gives the wrong idea.
  27. All done and working problem was indeed the electric motor that opens the tailgate latch. Got a Chinese jobby of ebay £11.36 delivered so not so bad. Cheers Gareth
  28. The whole thing is lost in translation with 'Destination chargers'. Location location location and chargers near where people want to actually park or be at. There are places with loads of 7 kW chargers, but getting back and fore to these are not suitable for everyone. But then using chargers and charging to full is not what everyone needs either, but plenty do need to get a charge and go. Like 'Wash & go in the shower'. 'Idle fees' are perfect IMO. Sadly there are those on chargers that can set the charge time to match the max charge period at places, the car stops charging and yet the car stays parked for hours hogging that charger / bay. eg Edinburgh Airport Park and Ride with only 5 Rapid chargers. So no £30 fine for overstaying 30 mins on the charger but the car can be there all day. East Lothian Council at least try to make some sense of it, but then where drivers could not care less it is just still a muddle.
  29. That's NOT how rapid charger works. Rapid charger are like petrol pumps. Move the car after filling up and paying. If they want to plug in and disappear, plug into a Type 2! I don't understand why people couldn't make the distinction.
  30. @seneca009Is that even when the engine / engine oil is hot? ? When did it get an oil & filter change last? You want to be sure that the oil is not getting diluted by diesel. This will kill an engine rather quickly.
  31. That's not unusual - my previous 1.4 Octavia had a battery smaller than the tray but was the correct battery for the car as the tray is sized for the largest battery needed for all engine sizes/types. So just because the battery is smaller than the tray doesn't mean it's the wrong battery.
  32. With some insurers and brokers yes but possibly not with others, note the post from Adrian Flux. If you get your insurance through one of the comparison sites that's usually fine for ordinary cars or vanilla models but often specialist insurers or brokers can offer more suitable policies for vehicles that are not ordinary or vanilla models and sometimes the premiums can work out lower (or much lower). For 3 decades I had "classics" (over-priced, over-priced old cars) and low volume manufacture sportscars and the specialist insurance providers provided very wide range cover at very reasonable premiums and most of these cars were also daily use cars and for work, no garage or mileage limits, fully comp, UK & Europe breakdown cover included in many policies. My last "classic" was modified some insurers didn't like that but the one I was with just wanted the modifications listed, premiums remained the same. Look around someone wants your business at a reasonable premium -unless you have high risk factors.
  33. On my previous estate which was an Elegance they were the standard all halogen tail lights. IIRC there are 3 types of tail light - halogen, LED low and LED high - fitted to various different models and years.

I can't remember where the wheel or seat was when I approached the car in the showroom but the first thing I ever do when having a sit in a showroom car is slide the seat right back, raise it to it's highest position and adjust the steering wheel to its highest (and furthest forward) position. Once I'm in the car I can adjust stuff to suit, but if I can't get in the darn thing then that's aproblem (for me). And in the case of the Yaris Cross my left leg fouled the bottom of the steering wheel. And that was the end of my appraisal coz if I can't get it the thing then we don't progress any further. The Toyota C-HR was better, the Arona, T Cross and T Roc and Ford Puma were better in that regard ,... the Mazda CX30 was awkward (for me) ... and so it goes on ... in fact the best of the bunch remains the Yeti. I just remembered, The Kia Soul was excellent, and the Mrs loved it too. They only do it in fully electric now.
  35. This crap. Tesla fully charged on the Rapid and locked in, and the Hybrid plugged into the 43 kW AC which is a rapid for some but only getting 4 kW soi could be on the 7kW posts using their own cable. I was able to get on another Rapid. Below, finally after many months the holders for the cables are not behind temp barriers. Pity Electric Vehicle Charging Only is not painted on the ground. But then the 2 bays should be kind of obvious what they are, and there is one little sign that those parking ignore.
  36. Typical behavior of unit with full NAND - try reflash firmware, if doesn't help then NAND must be cleared either with sepcial software or desoldered and cleaned with the programmer. After clearing reflash with new firmware is required. Adding DAB into the unit is not possible, yo either need new unit with DAB or external DAB receiver.
  37. Not my pic obviously, but I ended up with 15mm spacers all round on 235/40/19 and zero rubbing issues.
  38. They’re the standard L&K 19” ones, but I can’t recall their name. Also I can cfm that ours has the foam on top of the plastic wheel arch liners.
  39. Thank you for all your replies. I appreciate that for a vehicle of this age and mileage, a huge factor is how well it was maintained and treated by its previous owner(s) and is something I will be checking in detail before buying any car. My main concern is that the vehicle does't have any catastrophic issues like the old pd engines with the oil pump drive shafts failing or clutches on later models which would fail and machine through the gearbox casing causing it to fail. I heard there are cases of oil burning in the 2.0tdi engines fitted the mk3 superb, does anyone know how common it is or which years are affected? also, is this the kind of vehicle a competent DIY'er can maintain? I understand people's points about 4wd being unnecessary in some cases, however I relatively often need to negotiate muddy tracks and fields and find 2wd cars to be pretty limited, even with good tyres (Michelin cross climates) also when towing and on wet/greasy roads I find fwd cars often struggle for grip, especially when pulling out of inclined junctions. Its just a nice feature to have and doesn't seem to impact the running costs too badly. When it comes to maintenance I also have adopted the same proactive strategy with my cars, changing oil regularly (every 5 to 9k miles) and changing other fluids such as manual gearbox oil and power steering fluid, it was quite surprising how dirty they were.

On my 2.0TDi (SE Technology), when I was regularly driving an hour each way on dual carriageways to commute (plus other work mileage) my average consumption was around 70mpg. I've now got a shorter commute and have noticed it's dropped down a little, seems to hover between 60-65mpg. I tend to drive to the limits, and don't over accelerate etc so keeps things a bit more economical.

I won’t bother emailing them myself then as it sounds like the answer will be the same as the one you received. Essentially then we just have to sit and wait with absolutely zero reliable information at all. As I said earlier I am trying to keep this in perspective, it is just a car and there are people in the world struggling with far greater problems than this. That said though, I absolutely cannot believe how badly Skoda have handled all of this. The very least they should be doing is contacting everyone who has placed an order with an explanation and an apology. We all make mistakes, things happen that are out of our control, but the least you should do is have the balls to front it up and apologise.

Not sure if I can still believe, but just got a call from my dealer and was told that car is fully built and my Octavia Style 1,5 TSI 110kW mHEV DSG will be delivered next week... So after ordering Sep 2021... moving dates 3 times (Order Sep 2021->first estimate Apr/May 2022 -> estimate update to Oct 2022-> estimate update to Feb 2023 -> estimate update to Apr/May 2023)... it is finally coming true. Still being afraid to be happy and thinking, that something will change and will get a call saying " sorry, we mixed up" or something Fingers crossed 🤞
  43. Don't worry it's off the pit now and hopefully won't need to go back on for a long long time. I ran some petrol in and around the tank, shook the life of it and drained it out. Turned a shade yellow but compared to before, I don't think I'll have any trouble for another while yet. Also note the fuel pump/filter dragging still. New filter is slightly different to the old one so it's gonna take a bit of fettling to put in. Done enough on it this evening to be happy.

I ordered mine (Octavia SEL 1.5 DSG) on 6th September 2022 when I was quoted a delivery time of 37 weeks which would take us to June. The dealer rang last week to say it should be with them in two to three weeks - two months earlier than the original estimate.
  45. To answer the questions - these are 100% Luxons. These were purchased with brand new Skoda Superb II back in 2012, removed them when was selling the car. This is what the car looks like with these: I prefered Luxons other Thermistos but as always down to your own liking... Thermisto have centre hub like off set/dropped with clearly visible lines, whereas Luxons have smooth transitions.
  46. You and me both 😳 Things were made worse when it said Insert into post 🤣
