  1. I had so many spontaneous reboots this week with even 4 occurring on the same day that the infotainment system was practically unusable. That’s why I decided to go ahead and install 1941 yesterday. I did two 2-hour drives since and everything seems to be running smoothly. No reboots and any other hiccups. Hope this stays like that. Notes: When the engine was running, the engineering mode did not detect the USB was plugged in. Once I shut the car down, it detected it successfully. It took approximately 15 mins to complete the install on H58. After the install, I received another small update of some system apps. I didn’t notice any other changes but I didn’t take much time to look for them.
  2. Just wanted to give MASSIVE THANKS To @bigade1 and @pcbbc for the result of this post. Am downloading it now, hopefully my leon and the otherhalfs Arona will finally get the traffic back 🙂 🙂 Robert
  3. MIB2STD 2020 Maps with TMC Update for Amundsen/Discover Media/Technisat This method doesn't require any toolbox installation, etc. Unmodifed V12 map download: DiscoverMedia2_EU_AS_1430_V12.7z TMC providers update: DiscoverMedia2_EU_AS_1430_V12_TMC_Update.7z Instructions: 1. Download both 7z files. 2. Unzip unmodified V12 maps to SD card. Instead of downloading, you can use your existing copy of V12 maps if you already have a copy. 3. Unzip the TMC Update to the same SD card, replacing any duplicate files. 4. Check/configure FEE BASED TRAFFIC INFO is set to 1023 using VCDS/OBD11. Give a big thank you to @bigade1 for working out the correct TMC config and doing the testing on his MIB2STD. 👏
  4. Rather tellingly, I couldn't even give it away on Freecycle. In the bin it goes 😁
  5. To answer the topic title question:... I've ordered a product that should help getting rid of milky spots on the roof bars of my Estate version (a very well known issue on chrome trims around windows and/or roof bars on many VAG models for years. But still unsolved 🙄). Found on an Audi forum. It looks amazing. I should receive it by the end of this week. I haven't taken a big risk (only €9,90). I'll let you know if this works well or not.
  6. Success! I reinstalled the old switch on the new master cylinder and everything works as it's supposed to. Looks like the new master cylinder came with a faulty switch. Many thanks to Breezy Pete for providing the information I couldn't find elsewhere.
  7. This is what happens with my TB at ignition on, if I just leave it without turning the key further to crank. 20230618_152810.mp4
  8. That's where I'd be, and what I'd be doing EMC should be alright about it. Gaz
  9. Thanks for that since I got the car I always sent him back to the mechanic due to this sound at start up only. But they explained me everything showed me this turbo and told this can make a rattling sound. They also started up few other gti's which made the exact sound. Performance wise and everything else is perfect. Thank you for reply.
  10. I understand this is plug and play, for info I bought a fascia adaptor to fit RNS315DAB into my 2010 S spec from AliExpress for under a tenner.
  11. IIRC it allows +/- 15%. @OP, you will need to do a few brim to brim economy checks and for each one reset MFD2 to zero. When you fill up each time record the MFD average economy and compare it to the actual economy from brimming the tank. If you do this over a number of tanks you'll get a pretty accurate correction which you can use in adaptation channel 3 on the instrument cluster: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/VW_Golf_(1K)_Instrument_Cluster#Adaptation
  12. i even update with just entertainment system on, ignition off.
  13. Disc rear axle been removed ready to be cleaned up. After this, more or less its all reassembly into the sdi. More time to work on this (and funds slowly rising) now since the justy is roadworthy, and "finished" as it were. Few other bits stripped and swapped but the axles the main thing.
  14. I cleaned my roof bars the other week with some Meguiars compound which was semi successful so I'd be interested to see how you get on get on with this product.
  15. Yes I’m watching that one. But not sure we want to try anything more. Wifes found another to look at tomorrow night. Slightly older 1.4 Estate with 67k, £900. But it’s a bit scruffy, but for the boy thats not an issue.
  16. Yes, and there are no incandescent bulbs, all the warning lights are SMDs. Nothing to stop someone bunging a lump of Blu-Tak in there though.
  17. That EFB to AGM change will definitely need adaptation (coding) - also true if the Ah rating is different from the old battery. Changing the battery serial number serves to reset any settings that the charging system may have made in compensation for faults in the old battery. There is a register somewhere on this site for members who have the necessary equipment and may be able to assist. The clamping bolts are at the base of the battery and will require a long extension.
  18. Does it have a turbo? Only saying because the turbo on our 1.8 (albeit a Polo) is quite noticeable. G
  19. £1500 is a crazy price, with all those problems it's overpriced at a grand, the main issue is that a low mileage is massively overvalued by the trade, a low mileage is actually WORSE for these cars so look for one with average mileage.
  20. No whine from mine.
  21. Plenty of things to try then. Thanks again.
  22. Hello nta16, thanks for the tip, I will give that a try. It seems so odd that the belt is so easily affected by the temperature, I went out to the car last night when it was a lot cooler and the belt worked almost perfectly with just a slight hesitation. Thanks again.
  23. 1 point
Hello, everyone! I just joined the forum after recently buying a 2012 Octavia RS 2.0 TSI Liftback. Love the looks of it with the original rims, and that it is pretty well spec'd with the Bolero infotainment system and sunroof. I live in Sweden and am coming from the American pony car and Swedish turbocharged (Saab) scenes, so I have been enjoying driving a car that is practical and feels smoothto drive, but still offers a sporty feel when one wants it. Looking forward to being part of this community! Cheers, José
  24. The throttle body should initialise when you switch the ignition on, other than that, pressing the pedal will not do anything until the engine has started.
  25. Hi. I have an Octavia 69 plate Sportline that I felt sat too high and seemed generally wobbly and poor ride over uneven surfaces. First all I tried to improve the ride by fitting a set of 30mm lowering springs which made the car sit nicely without looking too low and was nice round bends etc but still terrible over uneven surfaces. I bit the bullet and bought a set of Blistein B8 dampers which have the same gas pressure as the B6's but have a shorter telescopic damper for use with lowering springs, as I already have the lowering springs I technically now have the B12 kit fitted to the car. My top mounts were shot (after 35k 🙄) so these were replaced along with the front droplinks that looked like they were made of cheese! The difference is night and day! OK it's a firmer ride but it's not uncomfortable and the new suspension deals with the uneven road surfaces so much better, the car feel much more "sure-footed" at all speeds and as its only lowered 30mm I still have a decent amount if ground clearance and the front lower lip still clears kerb stones. Worth every penny in my opinion 😎
  26. We want all of this stuff if enthusiasts are going to crack taking mib3 maps and getting them into mib2 high maps for the day VAG pulls the plug on mib2 high maps. Need about 15 years on built in maps not 5 years. Where their support is woeful on products. A car will last 15 years, not 5 years as they plan, or less if you need TMC.
  27. 2.0TDI 190HP DSG. From 2017. L&K with: - Full black leather interior - Panoramic sunroof - Bi Xenon - With stribes (Not turned on in coding) - LED package - Canton - Lane-assist - Parking-assist - Light-assist - Roadsign recognition - Adative Cruse Control - Rear camera HIGH - Heated and ventilated front seats - Foldable mirros - Kessy - Electronik hatch with easy open - Removeable towhitch for 2000kg And probably more I have forgotten. Things I would like to change: - Virtual Cockpit - MIB 2,5 - Black interior roof Maybe if I can find someone that can 3D print some GOOD cupholders, since those from Skoda are TERRIBLE compared to the once in my old Golf MK7. 😅
  28. All parts came from a Fabia with factory rear windows, just had to wait till one was being broke and was in good condition (door cards), no matching of revision V my front parts. Regarding using Polo parts, VAG has the ability to make cross platform parts look identical, but there is often just a letter different in the part number and in all honesty I cannot say whether or not they would work............I suspect they probably would BUT the pin outs maybe different on the motors so then your messing with the wiring looms to, would need to check that..........but offcourse the plugs could be de then re-pinned to suit, depends on your ability and access to Polo wiring diagrams. If Polo parts are cheaper or easier to source, you "could" get one and try it, then if successful, get another or re-sell if not, I doubt you would lose much money if any.
  29. For info only Skoda UK recommend a belt change on the 1.4 tsi... Skoda other countries don't, they only suggest belt inspections. And neither do the other parts of the VAG empire that use the same engine. Also, when the engine was launched there was a lot of press 'noise' and launch pack info about the long life belt and ovalised cam pulleys to reduce strain on the belt. Personally I won't be changing my belt for a long time yet but that's an individual choice based on research and personal experience over many cars run for high mileages and many years.
  30. Thanks Silver2011. Is that really what the dash signifies? Tsi belts never wears out but Tdi ones do??? There's also no mention about replacing the tensioners. 😲 If that info is correct then I'm 100% with SkodaUK - any mechanic with half a brain wouldn't pay the slightest attention to that sheet. I see you've chosen to change the belt. If it doesn't need doing, what's your reasoning behind it? I'm with you - mine will be changed too. What's even more interesting tho is if you look a couple of rows up, it has the same dash for the sunroof. So according to that schedule, you never have to clean or lubricate the guide rails on the sunroof? I find that ludicrous to say the least. No half decent mechanic wouldn't ever lubricate a moving part, moreover one that's used fairly infrequently. No wonder people have so many problems if that's the advice they follow. My teenie weeny brain is saying there just has to be more to it than that. Jeez oh, I'm now wondering what the rest of the workshop manual says. 🤪
  31. Yeah. Because usually there is a range of fitments possible between 16 and 19" often with different pressure requirements.
  32. Although the Columbus can use any SD card, the Amundsen will only accept genuine cards or cards with the CID modified to match a genuine one
  33. @TheWanderer, Some notes quickly saved at some point: File name is: MOI3_EU_VW_R9410L(1941)_3G0919360TG - with VW software train MOI3_EU_SK_R9410L MU1941.7z - with SK software train Download and extract .7z then put onto memory stick but make sure files within are the first thing on memory stick. They must not be in the folder name Make sure memory stick is FAT32 formatted and at least 16GB big. Plug into car with infotainment on and car battery plugged into charger. Then hold square home button on infotainment then click top option. Then click start software update on the red and black screen and select usb port 1 or 2 whichever usb is in then click start at bottom and leave it to run through the upgrade progress. Do not turn off car or unplug from battery charger until complete. Process will took ~20 minutes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vveRLG9Ins Good luck if you decide to go with the update! Please let us know the final results. Cheers
  34. As @MarkyG82says, it's an internal wastegate, to regulate boost pressure. From my little knowledge, it is quite common and not much to worry about. But if it starts affecting performance, gets more noticeable more often or starts to throw up error codes, then obviously it'd need investigating
  35. Realise now how the hybrid geese come to be - never seen this before (and hadn't previously thought it biologically possible)!
  36. Visited Kedleston today, where we came across the angriest Swan! Lots of Oyster Catchers at Kedlestone too, including a chick!
  37. The one thing that I think is causing it, is the Bluetooth connection as I didn't activate it today and the system didn't reboot at all. I'm going to disable Android Auto next time and just see if I can use Bluetooth for phone use only and see what happens.
  38. That's the kind of agricultural engine this crap was designed for, rudimentary and with such lax tolerances that you couldn't fail but to improve efficiency. Actually it was really designed to help terrible flat tappet pushrod V8's in the 5 litre range making about 120 BHP, the craptastic build quality of those things has to be seen to be believed!
  39. Thats what it is being used for now and probably why the person had it arrive unsolicited in their letter box probably with some bumph about how they could become a millionaire through (decieving) their friends who would in turn become millionaires............................. If you Google it you will see that the name and company was sold on then after that company went bust one of the marketting leeches started reselling it, there was a court case where it came out that it was just another snake oil and had nothing in common with the original formulation, probably a good thing! but the guy did not have the right to use the name, since then it has been used as a vehicle to dupe people into multi-level marketting = Pyramid selling. google reveals all and will correct the errors in my recall.
  40. @nta16 Well the North East coast of Scotland in the 1960,s 70,s was rather different then where young people might leave school at 15 to go on fishing boats and buy a car a new car at 16 for their friends to drive until they were 17 years old. Youngsters from farms had cars & weekends were where the cars were driven rather quickly from one town to the next to the various town hall dances. Many were 2 car families back then and the boats had a crew bus / minibus for taking them to the West Coast fishing. ? Did it have a different name before the 1970,s? Was it just a product as part of Pyramid Selling ?
  41. Terrible crap, I used it once in the early 90's in a VW KR 16V and it blocked one of the oil squirter jets and knocked out a little end, I learned my lesson, rebuilt the engine and learned to live with the terrifying thirst, it didn't do anything for MPG anyway because what little friction there is in a running engine is mostly from the piston rings scraping up and down the bores and magic snake oil can't help with that.
  42. In the 1960,s in North East of Scotland @ Cordiners Garage Banff which sold Fords it was added to the oil at the first oil change at 1,000 miles or so.
  43. Jeez i though this had been dropped years ago. I remember my dad excitedly putting it into the family Ford Sierra 1.6 Pinto back in 1985 but I don't think it made a jot of difference. Pinto clearances are a world apart from modern stuff so I'd be avoiding it.
  44. I agree the needle sweep sounds a good idea to try.
  45. Agreed but you can make the needle go through its full sweep several times which might dislodge it, you could also program a needle sweep on switch on to keep it free.
  46. Skoda garage quoted £115 to supply 3 sparkplugs and fit !!! Are they difficult to fit DIY as I'm not paying £115 , when I can buy 3 sparkplugs for £18 Cheers Steve
  47. Hopefully 9 1/2 years later the crunchy hand brake has gone, maybe even the car has.
