  1. Had my 220 tsi five years in december i drop the oil every 12 months as i do short runs to work which is not too good for oil in the winter, anyhoo ive had to top mine up twice in that time but only by half a litre at most ,if yours is using oil i cant see changing to a different brand making much difference ,it will still use it regardless of name on bottle .
  2. Was fortunate enough to arrive just as the sky lit up - colour had faded within minutes !
  3. Use any oil to the Spec VW 504 00 / 507 00 so 5w 30 FS III. ASDA, TESCO etc are fine, proper oil produced by proper oil compaines. Or go non Long life oil at the next Oil & Filter change. VW502 00 so basically '5w 40 FS'. Fixed Service Oil Changes, 9,400 miles / 372 days or sooner. Non Long Life oil and a long living 2.0 TSI Euro 5 / 6. .............. If running it on E10 95 Ron maybe get in E5 97 or 99 ron. Maybe Tesco Momentum 99 or Sainsbury,s Super Unleaded 97 ron Minimum. Winter spec petrol starts getting delivered starting in Scotlsnd and North of England from now.
  4. ~It is not unusual# Tom Jones. @Kevin Pallett How long have you had the car / miles? When serviced last or when you got it had you checked the Oil Level stone cold, and as it needs checked, At normal Operating Temperature so up near an indicated 90*oC when stopped a few minutes and parked on the flat? Just asking so that it is clear the oil is at Max and not low between your topping up. ? Used daily for how long journeys from a cold start until stopped?
  5. Give that man a cigar. Cheers all you guys who tried to help me get this working. But I tried as suggested by HappySam to buy a better quality cable. Just been down to the phone shop and bought a genuine Samsung cable. Connected the phone to the USB socket in the car with the Samsung cable and bingo, it all worked, after of course I pressed okay to a couple of onscreen questions. So if anyone else has the same problem, it might just need a quality cable to get it all working.

@Ollythewolly Be sure that the driver is matching Photo ID for the Named Driver. Reason i say this is the driver that crashed into me did not have ID or even know their name and called someone who arrived and gave a name & details. They were not who they pretended to be or even the nationality of the person insured, i checked Facebook etc got their picture and proof for my insurer. Turned out my Insurance and theirs was owned by the same Insurance company and they were going knock for knock. As it was the driver worked for the company that had the Group Insurance that had their fleet vehicles, they were a valeter and car delivery person and had no licence. I got my total losses covered and no hit at the next renewal but then i had different policies and some without NCB, and some with.

I'm just reading this with disbelief. OP said that he BELIEVED she was on a mobile phone. Unless someone saw her on a mobile then he has no evidence of it. Respondant replies ' Driver on mobile phone'? OP says police let her off because she was a Muslim 😲 The police that turned up were only young so obviously they didnt know what they were doing... WTF Nothing like stereotyping eh? As for mobility driving 'free' cars - I find that level of ignorance shocking. Let's just insult all those on mobility while we're at it. If Toot is correct then it's the 3rd party who may be insured by Direct Line - why would they be contacting the OP offering courtesy cars etc when the money is likely to be coming out of their own pockets? It'll be the OP's own insurers who'll be handling his claim - they're the ones who may pursue additional costs ( assuming he has legal cover ). And then irony of all ironies - the OP has just said " I always try to park my car well on to the pavement ". And he gets hit by a mobility driver. Some might call that Karma. Trying to up the intelligence a little ( not hard ! ) OP - from those pics it's almost guaranteed your car will be written off. If your Octavia is a 2004 model as indicated by the reg, then best thing you can do right now is start your homework looking at how much a replacement will cost. If you've just spent £800 tidying the car up then think of it as seeking a better direct replacement than you would have if you hadn't spent that £800. Your insurer will make you an offer so best have all the data to hand as soon as they do. Some will say you only receive the cars trade value. That's true but you have to buy a replacement and the difference between your cars trade value and buying a replacement is called uninsured losses which as it's clearly the fault of the 3rd party. As per above, if you have legal cover then your own insurance should be doing that for you, if not, then you do that yourself or contact someone like Skoda Ensurance. ( be warned, their goalis making money for themselves ). One trick you can play if there's any problem is to keep a courtesy car / rental car for as long as possible. The 3rd party will want to settle the claim a.s.a.p. rather than keep forking out for an expensive rental car ! Good luck.

I was asked by my insurance if i wanted a claim company to contact me, i rejected as i thought how could it help me? I wasn't in the car so what can i actually claim for, i just want a fair valuation so i can get like for like. Any help is much appreciated

Better have this in another thread like a Mobility one of which there are in General Automotive chat. But since you ask. Personal Independent Payment and the higher Mobility Components or DLA Higher Mobility Component to Lease a car from Motability the Charity. Money recieved to do what you want with for you mobility / transport needs, or whatever, but some lease a car from Motability, or buy / lease cars from where ever using the money. Some even Lease EV.s and pay £5,000 - £8,000 in an Advance Payment, or get a grant to pay that, and get adaptions. Motability have about £2.8 Billion in their funds at present & own however many cars / vehicles, 300,000 plus i think. These go to BAC to be auctioned at end of lease. Usually @ 3 years or some sooner, but they can be kept for 4 or 5 years if low annual mileage or during shortages / long waiting times currently for some.

Its a dual carriageway thats well over a mile long and straight, after years of campaigning the residents have finally got average speed cameras fitted (as we speak) so not fully operational yet. I always try park my car well on to the pavement as its a wide pavement aswell. You are right to a degree and Mistakes happen.
  11. A near empty and cold battery and ambient temp of 4°C and only getting 39kW on a 50 kW charger & paying 41 pence a kWh. 20 kWh will be £8 20 and getting 3 1 miles a kWh that is just 62 miles. That is more expensive than a good economy ICE. But then the next 20 kWh charge will be at home @ 20 pence a kWh or even some charge Free at a NHS charger.
  12. It was very unfortunate. I was too busy with work to advertise it sooner (needed cleaning and photographing first) after buying my MK1 so it sat for two months. Then when I had time to advertise, I was under pressure for a quick sale. If I didn't have to renew temporary insurance each month (limited at 3 months plus admin fees each month), eBay every 7-10 days and autotrader every fortnight, I'd have held out at £2,400 as I feel that was more than reasonable. Instead it cost me £180 in temporary insurance and another £100 in advertising for 2 weeks on various sites. I reduced the price from £2750 to £2400 to £2250 although in a short space of time. It would have cost more if I'd held out and for reference, my last car took me 7 months to sell - far outweighing my asking price compared to my charges if I'd held onto it. I did have one person test drive and they wanted it but I misspoke and said I did 25k miles a year and it was serviced every 12 months. The mistake was that I never drove more than 13k a year but was instead insured for 25k. He wasn't happy with an oil change every 25k but after explaining my mistake, he'd already made up his mind. Posting this as advice really for anyone who's in the same boat. I had a lot of interest and advert saves at the 3 prices I advertised, but I guess people were holding out or thinking about it and 2 weeks is not long enough to time to make an informed decision. I also had one person message as I was in the recycling centre but it was too late by then. Fyi, although I myself don't always trust eBay for buying cars, that's where I had the most responses and requests for further info. Got two scam emails on Facebook and nothing on autotrader. She was a workhorse, never faltered, never complained but she's now a cube, probably on her way to China to become the latest iPhone! 😪 I may have a MK1 vRS again but the ambiente surpasses it in terms of steering and brake lightness and effectiveness and comfort features, with the exception of climate control! The MK1 wins on that front! I do miss the cubby holes but appreciate the power! One slight aside was that as I went to a recycling centre, I got the bonus of scrap value added on in cash to the ulez scheme so I didn't stray too far from my final asking price. Thanks for all the advice. Damo 😪
  13. So....I didn't go with EBC. At least not entirely. 😁 Instead I have chosen DBA brakes. Front: DBA 4000 series rotors + DBA XP brake pads Rear: DBA 4000 series rotors + EBC yellow stuff pads (DBA doesn't offer yet rear pads) Braided brake lines Motul RBF 600 brake fluid First impression is great. Quiet, good initial bite, good pedal feel.
  14. It is sad to see a good working car driven into a scrap yard but it looks like you had many good years of reliable use out of it. I did seriously consider buying this off you but I was looking at £1500 max and didn’t want to bid so far under your asking price. Just checked back to see whether it was still available and saw your updates on the ulez scrappage and that is a no brainer if you get £2k plus the scrap value.
  15. I just got back in and it is 2"oC. I have no heated steering wheel this winter and really the heater does not blast out heat while charging lie the Corsa electric did. Heated seats work when charging but there are no wind deflectors because on frameless doors so i need to sort that out before the snow and rain again because i sit in when charging. PS When passing the Dundee Tesla Supercharger you could get a quick top up. Open up an account as a Non Tesla Driver. (Dundee & Aviemore are part of the Scheme, Aviemore very handy.) 20,00- Midnight & to 16.00 is 50 pence a KWh in Dundee & 16.00-20.00 61 pence a kWh. 8 x 150 kW max chargers. Broxden Park & Ride Perth new Chargers can not be far off being ready. 35 pence a kWh. Stirling Park & Ride, Castle View is the same. Chargers in Auchterarder near the Crown Wynd, beside toilets, chip shop ect on High Street,
  16. Now you are refusing to give evidence you've previously referred. Me thinks everything you say is unreliable and have a hidden agenda. At least Geoff's motive is clear: views. Why else would you keep harping on about the 2014 Range Rover diesel fire at Luton airport and coming up with multiple justifications for Li-on battery fire? You really think people will convert a 2014 range rover to electric, when there's much better and cheaper IPace out there? You looked at evidence and overnight, you became an expert in how stuff burns? Flames were being subjected to a pressure source..... hum, I wonder if diesel cars have a high pressure fuel line...... Your bias is so blind, you would come up with ANY theory as long as it is against EV's. The location of hybrid battery are under the floor. NOT in engine bay: https://www.landrover.com/landrovermagazine/hybrid-evoque-so-what-mhev RE swapping Taycan to Tesla. I'm sure he will find the busiest supercharger at busiest times to get his SHOCKING view stats. In case he needs some support, South Mimms is usually quite busy.
  17. 159 miles since yesterday's charge. Heating was on and I sat on cruise at 70 there and back. I had from memory 56% battery left at IKEA and using ABRP I could have made it home with about 13% left but I wanted to ensure that I had enough charge left for pootling about next week so I charged at Straiton P&R upto 80% prior to leaving. ABRP quoted arrival back home with 36% however it was 41% with 85 miles remaining when I parked up. Getting the home charger will hopefully make a difference as I don't think I will be so paranoid about what remains knowing that I have access to charge rather than heading to the charger in the Ferry.
  18. Welcome. Others that had the Recall Actions for PHEV Superb & Octavia have reported similar and that the Breakdown Responders say they have dealt with similar cases. So any Dealership Employees that say 'Never heard of this before' Must be new or deaf.
  19. Not sure if i am allowed to link vendors on this site. but if you google search Android Auto Sat Nav GPS CarPlay for skoda superb you should find what you are looking and videos of how they can look as if they were there originally.
  20. It's the 1.0 6 speed manual. Strangely enough since buying the scala I think that i've only seen another 2 on the road. As an aside the washer pump gave up at 21500 miles. Not serious and an easy fix but the original pump seemed seized solid.
  21. I'm sure it would have but seeing as this is my first EV and I'm pretty much new to it all I wasn't sure. Having just returned home and done a few calculations it would have been fine, however I'm still waiting for the home charger to be installed so it would have meant another trip to the local charger. Gave it a quick top up before heading back and all was good.

Hi Pete thanks for the info appreciate it.
  23. Jings! It’s only 150 mile round trip. Surely the car will do that on a charge.
  24. MOT'd as of last week and yesterday I replaced the N/S front window winder mechanism so that's working again. Anyone who wants to give it a good looking over can do it in my garage rather than you struggling in the rain, dark and dirt! Will it need the odd bit of paint, jobs doing here and there? Sure and if it doesn't sell I'll end up doing them myself but anyone interested in buying it has points to haggle with. :) Rich

After only owning the car 6 months and became very fond of it. Someone has hit me while parked outside my parents house, worse thing is i spent £800 2 weeks ago on welding tyres wheel refurb, gutted is an understatement.

Im only going off what my eye witness was telling me said she was very close if not always in the cycle lane (presume to be on phone why didnt the police check). And it a massive pavement i would never intentionally block for prams or disability access. If she is a practicing muslim (which i believe she was) i wouldn't question here drinking but when there has been a coalition surely its not an excuse. I do appreciate your comments helping with insurance car hire Thank you

@J.R. You do talk some rubbish. Not their car but they pay £71 a week for it and paid an Advance Payment to lease it. Maybe a couple of thousand pound. So not even taking the increase each year on paying over their PIP it is £11,000 plus payments & that £2,000 or whatever. £13,000 for 3 years. The thing is is the driver the Person leasing or a named driver on the insurance? That can be several Named Drivers with a Motability Car. Be sure that the Persons ID is one on Motability & Direct Lines insurance. Often drivers of Motability vehicles might not be the Named ones, or even anything to do with who leases the car. ie, not the disabled person, spouse / partner / family / carer etc.
  28. @BooBoo124 looks like, these were downloaded from Audi portal i haven't access to it or at least some direct links to previous releases to enable guess next within next few weeks these files will be available on VW's, Škoda's servers
  29. Few manufacturers ( if any ? ) use service books. Can't see why anyone would go to the trouble of stickers etc if the car wasn't serviced so I'd have nodoubt it was done. VW group are famous for not dotting their i 's and not crossing their t 's so to hear that some online purchase has failed doesn't surprise me. What does surprise me is that's your only option. Can't you buy the said service pack via the dealer rather than online? Don't know what happens in OZ but over here it's VWFS ( VW financial services ) who administer such schemes. I'd give them a call if you get no joy elsewhere. edit - there no T&C that say a car has to be 2 or 3yr old before you can buy those packages is there?
  30. Well we're getting a bit off topic but reversing into my preferred position on my drive is problematic. Anyway, I'm leaning towards accepting the car with the beige headlining and no rear window wiper if my attempts to get the order changed come to nothing. The deal is unbeatable and I dread to think what the new version will cost when the price is finally announced (and I've said before I'm not too keen on what they've done to the interior).
  31. 1 point
Sorry to hear this. (spelling) Motability have just last month changed their insurers to Direct Line. (Which is a good thing.) She will be well looked after, just make sure you are by our Insurer who have or should have no problem having Direct Line make them whole so you as well.
  32. I doubt it, I think you're worrying too much and definitely overthinking things. The absence of oil pressure doesn't empty the system, the tappets stay full apart from the two or four that are under valve spring tension and the tensioner piston simply relaxes until oil pressure is restored, whereupon, like any hydraulic system, that pressure is transferred almost immediately throughout the entire system.
  33. Oops, just watching the latest video from The Electric Viking where he is discussing the Luton Airport Fire and he used this footage of fire brigades tackling the fire WTF 😁
  34. Having fully charged I can now see why people recommend a heat pump.
  35. I would be surprised if three days after the event, with all the speculation about an ev element being involved, that the fire brigade would issue a statement saying it was determined to be diesel powered if it was actually a Diesel/hybrid? Do you not think they would be accused of covering the fact up? Would they take that gamble?
  36. @Ovv When i am charged £1.00 or £1.50 for plugging in and chargers not starting i make them take that charge off. The hundreds of Quids worth of charging that do not register and the thousands of miles free i got i do not offer to pay that back. The system is crap. But crap in my favour.

Were the Police notified? They could prove whether or not she was on the phone.
  38. Just select Day Mode, rather than Auto
  39. Some full glossy black rear emblem from Kopacek and red black VRS letters
  40. It isn’t a Skoda problem, it is a VAG wide Schaeffler group problem brought on by weight saving machining around the mounting which is just too thin but hey, the CO2 reduction of the weight saving is “saving the planet” 🙄
  41. I would completely agree with @J.R.on this one. But personally I'd skip the master, it's only false hope 😄. It will be the slave
  42. Thats my superb 2019 model pre facelift...4x4 190 hp, dsg 7 speed dq381 Laurin and klement combi model, almoust all options, without panoramic . Changes made it : sport line 280 hp front brakes rotors brembo performamce 345mm, all bulbs led.
  43. I wish all the software bugs to be fixed!
  44. At a guess it could be the exciter wire at the alternator plug. I believe they have been known to fracture and break, or at least they did on some of the 1.9s

Good question. In basic terms the oil is consumed in three ways: - volatility; as you say the lighter molecules evaporate and leave the engine through the crankcase ventilation, so into the intake air and burnt in the combustion chamber. This is not “burning” of oil, just evaporation. It is driven by the volatility characteristics of the base oils in use. The test used to identify, compare and control volatility is called the ‘Noack’ test, which is run at 150°C. Specifications tend to limit this to 10-13% volume loss maximum - combustion; oil gets past the piston rings and is burnt in the cylinders. Not a lot you can do about this from an oil perspective, driven almost entirely by engineering - oxidation; the oil gets hot in the presence of oxygen and is oxidised (“burnt”). The by-products of this are all sorts of things - acids, water, carbon etc. This tends to lead to oil thickening - it can be controlled by using robust base oil and antioxidants. The ratio of these is dependent on the engine, operating conditions etc but will be split mostly between volatility and combustion, with much less oxidation. The volatile components are mostly from the base oils, so this has the effect of concentrating the additives but obviously reduces the amount of fluid left to lubricate and also leads to a thicker oil. Combustion affects all of the oil and is what causes issues with DPFs as additives are burnt, forming ash which blocks the DPF (and now GPF). Topping up the oil has two fundamental benefits: the first is the increase in available volume of oil to do the job and the second is an addition of fresh additives (antiwear, detergents, antioxidant etc) to help refresh the oil. Oil change intervals are determined with all this in mind so that the oil should still be serviceable when it is finally drained and replaced.
