  1. So finally took the time to fix the splitter Took a fair bit of sanding and filling to get the worst out of it. Primed Filler Primed And Painted. Complete rattle can jobbie from start to finish. So far from perfect. I'd rather have been able to take it off. But it's a lot of hassle and I'd have probably broken it. Tape was less than stellar and got a fair bit of overspray. To say I'm rusty would be putting it lightly. That pic is of it freshly painted. Came out fairly well over all. Since wetsanded it and buffed it but there's a bit more to be done, anyhow. Better than paying 350 plus vat for one of the few NOS ones, and still need to paint it anyway. Also have NCT soon so took some time looking it over. Stripped all the brakes, deglazed the pads, cleaned the sliders and rebled. Front discs are a bit low, would have changed them when I did pads only they got lost in transit. Checked over the suspension, all seems fine but I have noticed an occasional knock. Which I can't figure out. Changed the gear oil too as I didn't get doing it when I serviced it. "Only" 50k miles on it from the last time I did it. Still probably fine I imagine but seems gear changes are a bit slicker and I've not gotten the typical crunch into reverse since. Not much else. Imagine it'll fail on something stupid again.
  2. Welcome to the forum. How many miles has the car covered? Sounds just like it is doing a regen. ? Are you driving about in town all day or out on the open roads? Is it a Taxi / Private Hire car driving about?
  3. Castleton this evening............
  4. I am back, meet Darth's little brother. A Superb tsi 220 sportline with 390hp 😊
  5. don't forget you're using rapid chargers that start at around £38,000 (max £1000 at home) and then you need to factor in VAT at 20% (5% at home), grid connection charges (zero at home), back office and telecoms charges (zero at home), and card fees (zero at home) and also commercial electricity tariff (a lot higher than residential tariffs). That's why most charge poiint operators have yet to make a profit.
  6. I would reccommend 10W40 if your engine is in very good shape and you live in a colder climate. But personally I would use 15W40 because 1.3 engine is quite old tech (OHV-Pushrod engine) and the tolerances are not that good comparing to newer engines.
  7. I assume you mean 1000 rpm Sounds like clogged filters, and the car is using extra fuel to try and raise the heat in the emissions system. Almost certainly that DPF is part clogged, and some of it is so old and baked on, never going to clean fully. I suspect your only solution is a full DFP clean (ceramex) etc. A forced regeneration will only do part of a cleaning job, probably be back to square one within 1000 miles. By the time you have paid for that a full service and other filters should stop it reoccurring. Of course, without seeing the car, could be something else too like faulty sensor. I suspect injectors are ok front amount of fuel you are pushing through them.

Then you'll know you can provoke wheelspin on any car with too much right foot, whatever tyres you have on.
  9. There is a couple of ergonomic craps to improve: 1. When I’m selecting radio from steering with right roller wheel I cannot pre-listening it. Instead of that, system only allows to select it and turns the menu off. 2. When you listening songs from Spotify/Tidal and title is too long system doesn’t wrap or move this title. It shows only three dots… 3. Volume bar in the middle is multitouch, and you can use it to change temperature but only when climate window is open - why not all the time. 4. Why not to use multitouch for passenger temperature correction? 5. Wheb you touch passenger temperature value and hold I expected to switch into SYNC mode but it didn’t - damn…. 6. There should by definitely internal circulation button on climate bar allways available since they forgot to add it as a physical button under the screen… 7. Volume roller on steering wheel is laggy… I understand it is going not direct but from module to module but it is frustrating how slow it reacts 8. Next/Prev buttons do not scroll through song time - damn
  10. Yes, LEDs progressively get dimmer with age. Make it a quarter of 20k hours and it's still a good chunk of time. The drivers and other electronics normally fail before the actual diodes anyway.
  11. I saw this last month, caught my eye enough to take a photo of it (forgot the photo until checking my phone just now)
  12. Well, it wasn't what I'd have planned but, after almost 17 years, the end of the road has arrived for my trusty 2007 Octavia estate after it was dealt a literal body blow by a Tesla Model Y that didn't stop when it ought to 😥 Thanks to everyone who's chipped in with helpful suggestions over the years. I'm sticking with Skoda however and will be taking delivery of a 2019 Octavia estate later this month so will be frequenting the forum next door. Cheers - Stuart
  13. See my edit above.
  14. Correct, a senior moment, I had thought that Brysoni232 had made a new posting today. Apologies to all.
  15. My car now has a full set of Michelin Cross Climate (the rears we're fitted at Costco this afternoon). The car is quieter at speed, has a noticeably more pliant ride and I think more grip than the original Bridgestones, possibly as a consequence of the OEM tyres being Eco variants?

Thanks but I need a SD card to update the sat nav mine is missing ... Gary
  17. I managed to get DiscoverMedia2_EU-AS_2110_V18 working on my Golf 7.5 2019 Discover Media with 16 GB VAG SD card by doing below changes to the package. Hopefully following can be applied to other MIB2 platforms. Removing unnecessary brand folders and files from mapcfg-folder and extra languages from sds-folder was not enough to make the package fit to the 16 GB card. Unluckily the navigation did not run if files were brutely deleted from region nds-folders. Instead of deleting files from nds-folders I decided to replace big files of irrelevant (to me) region with smaller files of some other region. This seemed to keep the system satisfied and so far the navigation has worked normally. When the next update comes and the package grows even bigger I will probably just select a second not-so-relevant region to tamper with. Delete: \maps\00\cfg\mapcfg\SEAT \maps\00\cfg\mapcfg\SKODA \maps\00\cfg\mapcfg\se_default.cfg \maps\00\cfg\mapcfg\sk_default.cfg \maps\00\sds\ - all folders except FI, SE and GB \maps\00\nds\PRODUCT\E10\ROUTING.NDS Copy: \maps\00\nds\PRODUCT\E13\ROUTING.NDS to folder \maps\00\nds\PRODUCT\E10\ Depending on your own region you can choose to replace the ROUTING.NDS of some other region. For me E10 was the most irrelevant and ROUTING.NDS from E13 was small enough to get the package to fit the SD card. I found the region codes from: https://www.skodacommunity.de/threads/navikarten-update-q1-2022-release-2023-fuer-mib1-mib2.103181/page-186
  18. Wind noise is good with mine. Nothing to note or pick out for wind noise. Engine only noisy when being used. ( hard and fast ) What DB rating are the tyres that you have fitted to the car? Thanks. AG Falco
  19. VAG have made changes post Dieselgate to default to the settings used when the WLTP figures were measured. You would be best posting in the Octavia 4 forum, as other owners may have found some tweaks that work?
  20. You make a lot of assumptions without asking what the OP's typical journey profile is. It could be simply that the attempted regenerations are being interrupted and not allowed to complete he has already spoken of such. As for being certain that the DPF is part clogged, speaking of a forced regen (why?) and that it will never be successful and back to square one in 1000 miles you dont even know how many miles the vehicle has done. What "other filters" do you believe would prevent a DPF, probably a healthy one at that, from (re)clogging? Or have I missed something? Editted, my posting overlapped with Rooted's, looks like he and I are on the same page.
  21. I do believe he was. The more of the old banal everyday cars unloved today that are allowed to be scrapped the greater the future value of original unrestored and restored examples will be. I have a friend, a retired French industrialist who has an aircraft museum, he stores my Lotus Elan, he has an enviable car collection worth a lot of money now because of such rarety, the majority of them are vehicles he owned and drove and could not bear to part with including his honeymoon camping holiday vehicle. I suppose he was lucky in having somewhere to store them and not needing to sell them to buy the next vehicle but they were still pretty much valueless when he restored them, he did it through love and nostalgia and it realy pleases me to know that most are now good investments, all of them were everyday vehicles, no exotics although he has bought a few more interesting veicles over the years includin Edith Piaffs hearse! My absolute favorite is an original, patinated and unrestored Amilcar still used regularly and driven very spiritedly.
  22. A 10W40 multigrade oil is designed for outside temperatures between -20°C and 40°C. I quote from my previous replies "Skoda chose mineral oil 10W40 for most countries having a temperate weather". I didn't say anything about mediterranean or tropical weather. Furthermore, I have attached a screenshot from Skoda Felicia Workshop manual. You will find interesting notes that I emphasized in red. Remember that Skoda dealers' recommendations from year 2000 take into account two things: 1st: Felicia's engine was designed for cheap, mineral oil (to keep maintenance costs low and also because it is not a performance engine), and 2nd: temperate weather was different in temperatures range than today. Felicia workshop manuals are above Felicia owners manual, also I had the occasion to exchange technical information about my Skoda Felicia with numerous Skoda mechanics in VAG dealerships when I worked in Europe. The engine on my Felicia 1.3 is running strong with high compression at 180,000 km and I used 10W40 mineral oil till 2010-ish, then 10W40 semi-synthetic oil till today. Any full synthetic oil IN FELICIA engines has two visible disadvantages: leaks around all seals and also "boils" in the engine oil sump, then the vapors are sucked through the PCV hose into combustion chamber where they are burned. The mineral part in the semi synthetic oil FOR FELICIA prevents those 2 issues. PS. I hope that our friend JR will find my reply satisfying for his sarcastic demands.

  24. I’d say it was probably 30meters at least on high beam With 1 full turn I think it’s just about right, no blinding at all but I’ll find out in march with the MOT
  25. I love watching how he handles cars.
  26. Many thanks @Rooted for sharing these videos, the first one was the more informative and showed all the good points and bad points in my view, and for that person, the best option for him with most of his driving being local short trips around home, and he has plenty of time available and only 2 people the car is ideal, they already have another ICE Mini as the main car for long trips. That said however he also said the same things as the "Taycan" man, but without all the drama, and he is truly an independent, doing YT for his pleasure and to help others as with only 781 subscribers he is I doubt not likely to be monetised and if he was, only going to get pennies for his endeavours. Also, I found reading his comments section very enlightening. The "Taycan" man, he readily admits that he loves the quietness, smoothness of power delivery, regenerative braking, acceleration, and the instant torque available. Instead, he has become a target for EV owners. Has anyone even understood, that he was already a Porsche (ICE) man before getting his Taycan? His channel was the result of his disappointment with the actual realities of living with an EV compared to how it has been portrayed. His main gripe is that the infrastructure is insufficient and poorly maintained and that EV drivers are treated like 2nd class drivers in regard to protection from the elements etc and the pricing swings massively between suppliers and the need to have so many various account cards /APPs which also rely on network coverage which is also patchy. Yes, I do agree that there is a lot of click baiting going on, especially with "Taycan" man's thumbnails, but in reality that is no different to newspapers, magazines and many other well known and well respected businesses, but nowhere do I see the negative comments about those, it always seems to be totally reserved for those who have not yet brought into the whole EV ethos yet or those that have but have found out that it is not quite as promised. And those negative remarks are mostly from people who already are EV owners or users?
  27. I love the DSG gearbox, the big wheels, it handles well enough for me. The fuel economy is very satisfactory, The seats are amazingly comfortable (Monte Carlo) my only concern was the lack of boot space for tool kit , tyre inflator etc. BUT with the seats down I got 2x 290 litre bags of pruned shrubbery in the back plus a couple of rubble bags.
  28. Just to advise i managed to source a Skoda branded DAB capable head unit from ebay (1ST 035 869 A) and found a fitter fairly locally who could do the coding to the car.. Showed anti-theft component protection when first powered on and he had to do some sort of re-auth online to turn this off. Fitted an after market DAB antenna to the windscreen and now have full DAB as per manufacturer. Antenna install was easy enough. just had to remove pillar trim and side trim from passenger dashboard and could then route DAB cable straight through to where the head unit was located. Worth the effort in the end.

Don't worry about the top-up, seems like a pretty small proportion.

Always amazes me when folks complain of wheelspin or lack of grip. The answer is really simple, get control of your right foot! Our Karoq is still on its original tyres and no issues with grip, as an ex blue light qualified driver I'm not slow when on the road either.
  31. Like living dangerously? I get the desire to visit petrol station as little as possible. It’s a waste of time and unnecessary distraction. But all ICE cars I’ve had, I always fill up just before or after fuel light to be on the safe side. I’ve had instances where after fuel light lit, the petrol station was closed. Whereas with EV, I know my driving profile near home, I am comfortable arriving at very low charge levels and I know I can definitely get a charge at home.
  32. The Octavia Sportline has available Vega "aero" rims which should give you some sort of idea of what Vegas look like on an octy
  33. Top Gear's never slagged off *all* American cars. They've taken the **** out of *some* Italian cars. They've also admonished some British cars. The Morris Marina got away lightly IMO. It, and it's successor the Ital were truly awful cars hammered together by an underappreciated workforce who were supplied badly made panels and components by an equally underappreciated workforce in and around the West Midlands. My dad worked for a few of those companies as a toolmaker, a press setter engineer and later a CNC setter operator.
  34. The DRIVERS side on a RHD car has NO cover, you can see the wiper motor / linkage Above is Drivers side (RHD), apologies photo was taken in pitch dark at 23:00 hrs......motor clearly visible On the PASSENGER side of a UK car, thats where your intake valve is for your heater, so that has an additional cover under the grille to stop water directly going into the heater assy. Image below showing cover which you see through the grille.......this is on the LH side of a RHD car, this cover would be on RH side of a LHD car.
  35. Skoda factory recommended at that time (1994-2001) to use mineral engine oil 10W40 for petrol engines. Since the oil technology evolved a great deal, I invite everyone to use a semi-synthetic engine oil 10W40 for petrol engines. You will have no issues at all. It is not rocket science, unless you have too much free time, too much worries, or you want to split hairs.

Noticed the other day that Kwik-fit currently have a 15% promotion on certain tyres, those Michelins being one of them. You may be able to find them cheaper elsewhere but worth a try anyway. If your car has 215/50/18 then enter code BFDEALS at checkout and that should bring the total fitted price down to £631.60 Hope that helps.
  37. Just to close out the post, had my new turbo fitted, the car runs really nice, well pleased with it. They noticed the sump is leaking very slightly at the joint between the sump and bottom of the engine. So that’s the next job.
  38. If you cancel your tyres check out Goodyear Assymetric 6’s, lovely and quiet and grippy as hell
  39. Hello everyone! I am happy to be here and exchange and receive knowledge from all of you. I drive a 2018 Fabia Combi and are always looking for good tipps around ma car. I wish you all a nice week.
  40. @lozza123When were the spark plugs replaced and the Air Filter looked at to wee if clean / fresh, or replaced?
  41. If the fuel filter is one that you've replaced, check that the pressure regulator part of it is the correct rating, visible on rearmost end of its alloy can under driver's side sill, near rear tyre. ECP has been known to mislead folks here. Phone camera can probably get a pic even if you can't get your head in right spot easily. Also check that brake lights are all working. And check brake servo hose.
  42. In case any of you haven't noticed, once you have pressed the Yes/OK soft button, the unit displays how many items it has to download by removing the Bluetooth symbol at the top of the screen and replacing it with a white circle containing a number - usually 1 although I think I have seen 4 and 9! That will give you an idea of how long it takes. Skoda Connect and the roof buttons use the Vodafone infrastructure.
  43. It depends how much you were paying as to what was done over and above Oil & Filter changes.
  44. I have had similar when it turned out to be a mis-shapen tyre.
  45. I had this a while ago, it would come and go. Had the wheels rebalanced as one of the weights had fallen of and that fixed it. So might be that?
  46. Check for feathering on the inside edges of the tyres. There was an issue several years back with alignment settings that caused the rear tyres to scrub causing droning. We had this on our VRS. Skoda put out new geometry settings and we haven't had an issue since. I know you said the front but worth checking.
