Apparently it was absolutely fine! It even accepted the re-gas. No suspicious suspension parts so they said just keep an eye out if and when it gets worse so they can diagnose it. I'm amazed. Not bad for a 20 year old motor!!
  2. Oh I'm not currently but then that was the sort of point of my original post. Once there's an EV on the market that meets my requirements I may consider it but until then I'm simply a nerd interested in the technology
  3. I had to replace the rear discs on my Kamiq at less than 20K miles. Are lot's of reports on here of similar stories and it seems the original Skoda discs are very poor quality, so don't build up your hopes that use will improve things. Mine certainly didn't get any better with use. I replaced mine with Brembo ones and they have stayed fine just as you would expect.
  4. Thrilled to share a major milestone! We've officially launched the first ever vRS Owners Club in the UAE. We've got a strong foundation of 24 members already, and the hunt's on to expand the pack! Check out some pics from a recent meet-up.
  5. Indeed, MIB4 will be taking up significant resource with the issues it was launched with. One of the reasons I wanted a MIB3 car this year that along with physical knobs for Climate.
  6. completely agree and for longer trips I would probably be stopping every 2 hours or so which If I was driving a BEV would be the ideal opportunity to top up (and in fairness Tebay is quite possibly the best services on the motorway network to have a meal). Sadly however as far as I'm concerned a real world range of 215/200 miles doesn't cover me (in a BEV) for the trips I'm most likely to make without having to make an additional unrequired stop to charge up due to neither destination having any form of home charging available (nor are ever likely too even If I have it) which again is back to @Graham Butcher's point about the haves & the have nots
  7. So, long week. Went on a trip to Scotland, doing my pre trip checks, came across this. Pad separated, on a bank holiday no less so couldn't get bits. Ended up getting some textars to go on in. Gave it a checkover again, and a lube service. Picked up some stuff for a friend, Quick wash and off to the UK on the 5th.
  8. exactly . With a 300+ range (and all other considerations) then a BEV could be a viable option for me as I could go (and come back) where I needed 99% of the time and charge only at home as I am in a fortunate position. The only time I would need on route charging is holidays to Scotland or trips down to see other family further afield (Somerset through Cornwall) and even then we would typically be stopping somewhere on the way anyways or and/or overnight
  9. Ok so lets have more of a think about my range requirements  and other criteria (and yes I am fortunate enough to be able to charge at home if I did ever make the switch). I originally stated "400 miles" The 2 longest one way journeys I do regularly are either a) to my parents in Doddington (Shropshire) which is 110 mile one way via the M6|M56|A49 b) down to my GFs daughters in Nottingham which is around 98 miles one way via M6|A500|A50|M1|A52 Both of which are comfortably done without needing a stop. Now taking the MG5 above as an example that that has a theoretical max range of 214 miles however as we all now most vehicle ICE/EV rarely attain their stated ranges. That being the case I don't think it's unreasonable to set a range expectation of say 300 miles minimum (ok previously I said 400 but I am prepared to come down a little) to cover a round trip to either of those destinations given that neither destination has the ability to even allow use of a Granny charger to partially top up. Yes there are EV charging stations on route but I have no other need to break the journey. My parents live on in a Park Home and the parking is the red x Meanwhile my GFs daughter there's a big patch of grassed area between her house and the road
  10. I had completely overlooked the fact that MG have a car which meets most of my (personal) requirements for an (pre used) EV and is starting to fall into the sub £10k market, The biggest thing missing (for me personally) is the maximum potential range (and yes I know , for most journies I do it would be fine especially if I used home charging but that's not the point) The MG5 Estate
  11. And unless you are looking down at the lever and shifter plate ,instead of watching the road as you should, you could still change to 3rd instead of 5th from 4th as the shifter plate and gear lever have no say in what gears you select Get the shifter plate positioned just wrong and/or slots not long enough and the lever could pull out of gear on the overrun or a bumpy or sudden bump in the road. The plate would be for show without real practical use, it won't stop you from doing a wrong gear change.
  12. Try Ebc discs not cheap but excellent quality and manufactured in UK.
  13. Aberdeen airport park and ride. 47 pence as kWh. Chargers working and loads of emptiness at this time of evening. Another park and ride 5 miles away with charging and loads of commercial ones near now. Changed days. Fast enough charging for the MINI . It was at 52 kW.
  14. I know I should learn my lesson, as we have SEAT, VW and now (two) Skoda's in the family, but why is VW Group servicing always such a battle? Took the Karoq in today. It's just over 2yrs old. Done 8500 miles (total). It's not asking for a service as it's set on variable, but the dealer we bought if from last summer said it would need servicing around now as they serviced it last June just before we bought it. It needs doing annually according to the used car service and warranty package. I called to book it and they denied it needed service, but booked it in anyway. I then got several emails from the dealer reminding me to book it in! Today they said it would just be an oil service. I said, hang on, it's the car's second service, shouldn't it have an extended inspection and pollen filter change? No they said, it had all that last time. Really, on its first service at 3K miles you changed the pollen filter? I've got some kind of print out of the service and it says "oil change service". At that a young lad who seemed to have some authority got involved and printed out their internal record and that says the car had a first variable service, which did include inspecton and pollen filter. Seems odd that the dealer did that, but it makes sense, however it's different to service record I was given. It also means the work at the annual services going forward and going to be out of sync with the schedule. I was also asked about having the brake fluid changed. Annoys the heck out of that it's a service item but not included in the service packages. When did the first change become required at 2yrs. "It's always been at 2yrs, sir". I know it hasn't, it only changed recently to bring it into line with EV servicing. I declined it, and the a/c service (the compressor was replaced a few mths ago - but is still audible). Over £200 to have both done, more than it used to cost to have your car serviced!
  15. Picked the car up and there wasn't really much discussion - they were adamant a variable service had been done before so they just did an oil service this time. They did change the brake fluid FOC, and they also rotated the wheels which I'd mentioned as I expected the service to like a "wheels off" major service (although I don't believe the dealers do normally remove the wheels, I've used that on other VW Group cars to get the wheels rotated). They didn't charge for doing that either. Weirdly they did try and charge for the courtesy car insurance even though they'd taken a copy of my insurance cert. I suppose most "normal" owners don't know / care, but there's nothing other than the dealers own record that shows what was done on the first service and it now looks like it's had the wrong level of service this time. I bet if I'd been a paying customer they'd have absolutely insisted the car need the extended scope 2nd service. There was also a continuing palava over a chatter / knock from the front suspension but I'll continue that in a thread that already running. Todays investigation resulted in us driving off with the young lads phone in the car, which startled us when it rang!
  16. With help from youtube, installed AutoStopDisable. Video really works, just take your time, easy and with care.
  17. ApertureS is easily qualified enough to fit front sensors, with more of an interest than you’ll get from most people to do it properly and neatly to a high standard.
  18. Main causes for warping are the drive flange which the bolts screw Into is not cleaned correctly causing an uneven surface. You really need to clean all corrosion off it. Other cause could be a wheel bearing. I've had wheel bearings cause it even though they don't feel rough or make any noise.
  19. That's a beast I've never seen that engine in Skoda before thought it was only in the old Passat r36 or something.
  20. I'm sure I read a technical bulletin for these, something to do with the bolts incorrectly torqued at the factory if I remember correctly.
  21. Paddles will work no problem, Id also say you have the old style airbag which fits the alcantara steering wheel.
  22. FWIW, my wife just told me she noticed Leaf list one more health bar. So it's at 10/12 bars health now. Car is just over 9.5 years old. Health has dropped below 78.75% state of health. https://mobility.lk/2020/10/11/soh-capacity-bars/ 12th bar was lost September 2019. 6.25% health were lost over 4.5-5 years. BTW, @domhnall has a Skoda Enyaq. I think all VAG cars has those features mentioned. I'm sure @Luckypants can verify with his ID4. All Android automotive cars (Polestar, Volvo, Renault 5. Ford Explorer see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_Automotive) has similar feature set: nav with charging, see charging availability, predict arrival %.

St Pancras Priory, otherwise known as Lewes Priory, East Sussex: I worked in Lewes for about 16 years all told. Today's the first time I've ever visited it. Quite an interesting place to meander around. Gaz
  24. I've asked him to join Briskoda, if not I'll get your number.
  25. Luckily the Forecourt Maintenance Contractors operative is there within hours or maybe next day, and if the tanks need filling the tanker is not travelling far from a depot. When EV chargers are down, especially in Scotland it can be weeks or months before they get a technician to them, if they even get on. Then 7kw ones might be operating at a lowered output. eg half. That being down to the Charger owner and their maintenance contract which is not that great with many of Scotland's 32 councils.
  26. Unlucky. This hardly ever happens to my sister or myself even without the illegal use of a mobile phone.
  27. Hi everyone. I have just come back into the Skoda fold, with my 2014 Skoda Superb Elegance Estate, 30 years since my 1st Skoda, which was a 1984 Estelle 120LSE, followed by 4 Favorits. I manage a cruiser hire business on the Lower Bann River.
  28. My car has a notional range of 240 miles but realistically it does 215 in the summer, 200 in the winter. That is fine because my regular trip is just Livingston to Milton Keynes which is only 380 miles. It takes 6 hours by train or 7.5 hours by car (including stops). I stick by the Army's rules on driving which require me to take a break every two hours. In those breaks I plug the car in while I wander over to the loo. Like I said recently, the last trip back needed 12 minutes at Stafford for the loo and to grab a coffee to go, and 24 minutes at Tebay for dinner. I simply would not drive a whole day without a break as it would be foolish in the extreme to do so.
  29. I did this swap on my octavia and got no errors or anything. Was all just plug and play. As far as I can tell your experience will be the same.
  30. Thanks @Warrior193 I did supect that ould be the case. Happy to look at an aftermarket one just want to make sure there are no hidden gotchas down the road to think about.
  31. What's needed is a system whereby large numbers of evs (whether that be BEVs, HEVs, Hydrogen fuel celled etc) can be topped up to their maximum range in a few minutes per vehicle thus replicating the ICE experience that has been in place for over 100 years
  32. I had exactly the same problem on the same year as yours and was done under warranty
  33. Big projects had been focusing on rapid charging hubs, great for mid-journey top up whilst resting anyway. But it gives bad experience for daily use due to waiting around and pricing is poor. We need millions more destination charging, make plugging in easy and normal. It would enable seamless travel for huge majority without needing huge battery and/or charging stop on the return leg. 150 real world miles first-gen MG 5 with destination charging equals 300 real world miles. 60 miles Nissan Leaf 24 with destination charging equals 120 miles. 250 real world miles MY LR with destination charging equals don't need to use rapid chargers vast majority of the time. Instead of 8 rapid chargers, same money could fund more than 40 destination chargers. Not only improves EV user experience, also reduces pressure on very expensive rapid charging hubs. It also allows more emission reduction by keeping PHEV charged. It's win-win-win.
  34. The leak was in the heat exchanger in the HV cooling circuit. Frankly, I do not fully understand where it is and how it is connected to AC, though the same exchanger in ICE circuit is well visible when opening the hood. The guys on reception told me it is a bit of pia to change it, so cost of work was equal to cost of all the parts (around 1000 in total). Happy to have extended warranty.
  35. Must also add to my post above, the fronts were not looking good either but acceptable when I bought the car. I've since changed the fronts myself for Brembo, I've used this brand on other cars. Never had an auto car before I guess they are heavy on brake wear, especially fronts, time will tell. The rears though on mine and others I've read deteriorate (rust) because poor quality materials rather than lack of braking power to clean them off. Yes heavy braking will 'clean up' the discs if rusted from the car standing but the discs fitted to these Skoda are or seem poor quality to start with.
  36. I know there were some radiators on mk2 and possibly early mk3 where there was a crack/poor manufacturing that would open up when hot and dump all the water. I am not saying it is this, but worth checking the leak isn’t coming from the edges of the radiator if you can’t work out what else is going on. Also I’ve moved this to the mi3 area.
  37. Contact your Skoda dealer
  38. It should work as long as you have an active subscription. However the Nav is still rubbish and you are far better off using Google Maps or Waze.
  39. Which the UK is no longer formally or legally a part of ;o) Are there any examples yet of post brexit legislation which hasn't simply followed the EU example?
  40. What made you replace them? Were they worn down to their limit or was it just that you noticed they were rusty? As others have posted a few hard stops clears that up. My Kamiq is now 18 months old and the discs are perfect.
  41. Checked if my Mk3 is concerned by this Takata airbags story. Fortunately, it isn't! Maybe a useful link for all those who'd like to check too: https://recallactions.skoda-auto.com Take care.
  42. Well given MG are part of SAIC and given that based on this article they look to be one of the manufacturer's who didn't bung the EU Kommisars a big enough backhander so look to be getting stung with 38.1% additional import duties................
  43. No, that definitely isn't normal. I have the same engine and no such noise. I agree with @Ootohere, you'd have to be deaf to miss hearing it. I'd contact the dealer service manager direct and make an appointment to see them. If they try fobbing you off, go to Skoda AU, you have a legitimate concern here.
  44. And/or carry your own windscreen washer diluted fluid in a small spray bottle and cleaning microfibre cloth(s), that what I used to do for the bugs om the very upright windscreens of "classic" cars.
  45. I have updated to 1969 but I fully understand holding off if 1941 is working perfectly well for you. There are no discernible differences and, for me,!it’s equally fast and responsive as 1941. Whilst there will be “under the bonnet” changes if 1941 is stable and you have no issues the adage of “if it ain’t broken….” is certainly relevant. It’s not like it’s an iOS or Android update that brings new functionality.
  46. Car probably been sat on the pitch for weeks or months, not even moved. Once you start to drive it on a daily basis the discs will soon clean up.
  47. Not arguing with your observations Martin but when my wife test drove a Fabia with me in the back I didn't really notice that the interior was poor and I've had some quite expensive cars. Didn't look at any other cars as we like the look of the Fabia and Ibiza (gone off the Polo with the new corporate front end) and the relative simplicity of the engine, as many rivals have gone hybrid, and the intention is to keep the Fabia for a few years. Son's got a Mazda 2 and the interior is very nice in that but we wanted more space in the back and I've had many VWG cars over the years so I was being drawn to another one! I'm sure it will be fine for what we want it for.
  48. I'm not an iV owner myself so don't have these issues in any way but coincidently the Skoda Connect App has an option for when you open the app which says that when enabled it only wakes the car three times in a 24hr period to save battery on the vehicle...... Could this be a a cause of the issues you iV guys are having when using this Octopus Energy app/software maybe?
  49. You expect dealers to have good product knowledge? - simply put, they do not. The introduction of water cooled turbos and electric auxiliary pumps many years ago made that advice complete nonsense on any vehicle built in the last "many years".
