  1. We were lucky enough to spot what we think were a couple of Eurasian Jays earlier (along with a Woodpecker) earlier...............
  2. This is why I bought one of the last Mk 3 280tsi in Dec 2023

Wasn't sure whether to put this in here or the Moment of Joy thread, but a mate's just bagged himself a near concourse 1976 KH250: To say it's in stunning condition is a bit of an understatement. A real thing of beauty 😎 Gaz
  4. Just flown over - the paraglider appeared to be pretty close 🤔
  5. Sorry, I can't give you good news, just my experience having had various types of car insurance cover on and off since 1977 and a few claims. Your protected No Claims Discount will be protected but of course this will count as one claim against however many in what space of time your Protected NCD allows, some allow more claims and/or in a shorter time than others. Protected only if non-fault is new to me, sounds a cut-price half cover to me, with a 220 PS (or any PS level) car I'd want full cover but each to their own. How long things take may depend on lots of things. You have been involved in an incident no matter who's fault and no matter if you claim or not (such as parked up and you're not in the car and someone or something damages your car) so this is proof of risk, you have claimed so yes unfortunately your premium will probably increase at next renewal. If you paid for, or your insurance includes legal cover then you can pass all this over to them to try to sort, different policies have deferent cover and different providers are different quality. If the accident can be proven or taken as third parties' fault (if insured) then your insurance and legal cover will get you your vehicle repaired and possibly your excess and other from third parties insurance - but only the car repair is guaranteed. I learnt when I was young that low cost insurance is great provided you never make a claim, then you need good quality insurance which can sometimes (not always) cost more in premium but a lot less in time and hassle for the insured, things were a lot easier way back then though.
  6. There is no fuse for the airbag light, you need to get someone to do a diagnostic scan and see what's causing it to light. Often a loose/poor connection under one of the front seats... But don't do any work on the airbag system with the battery connected!!!!!!!
  7. I can't offer a piccy but I was delighted to spot my first sparrow in several years here yesterday. Most of the small birds seems to have disappeared recently and the gardens are dominated by pigeons, seagulls and magpies.
  8. Currently sat in a car park watching the sunset😎
  9. The time has come and the Fabia has found a new home. I haven't posted much on this forum as life has got in the way while I've had the Fabia. Ownership had been a great experience and I've enjoyed every minute of the ride, I'll stay a member as you never know what will happen in the future. It's sad to see the car go, it has had lots of positive comments over the years ( except from my teenage daughter who couldn't get along with the colour 😄, personally I've loved it), been totally reliable, practical and fun, even if some of that was chasing max mpg rather than speed! I've also loved the fact that most other Mk1 VRS owners either flash or exchange thumbs up when you see them, reminded me of the old Beetle days and the camaraderie that went with ownership. I've attached a few photos for posterity, taken just before the sale. I think the new owners a member also so hopefully the car will stay on the scene and the record started by bonelorry (previous owner) will continue.
  10. I'm using 0w20 at the minute, think I may sway to 0w30 in the future. Haven't seen any oil loss yet but I've only done 1000 miles in the car. I'm in the UK so most of the year it's pretty cool and can get cold in the winter. I certainly wouldn't be using it in Australia, I'd go for 5w30 long life 3.
  11. Not getting rid of the 280 at any point. Absolutely love the car and dislike the MKIV. Might look for a small city car and use that to keep the mileage at a reasonable level on the 280 (currently 49k).
  12. Helloooo! I've not had anything done except the service in December. The light is the dashboard one. It came.on in about February I think. It's a standard issue Roomster, no mods. I'm pretty sure it's up to but I'll check again as you never know! 👍🏻
  13. I wouldn't dream of suggesting that such a fine upstanding citizen would have done such a thing !!! But yes, suspect that is the case either with dealer or previous owner. Caveat emptor applies but I'd certainly ask the dealer why standard feature for Elegance was not only not working, the hardware had been removed.
  14. The only noises I've heard about are camshaft bolts loosening, evap hose and resonator, oil pump noises, injector noise, turbo wastegate/actuator noise. I have fitted the odd water pump too. Have you removed the auxiliary belt to rule out anything there?
  15. The two functions are not achieved by dimming... Take a look at a H15 bulb, there are two separate filaments, one for each function 👍
  16. I still feel slightly uncomfortable with 0W 20 as well, especially for year round use, but I'm sticking with it at least for duration of the warranty. Having said that, I can't see that 5W 30 would be in any way harmful, in fact logically better in summer. The Castrol oil selector will state Edge LL IV 0W 20 since they will only comply with manufacturer's specs rather than risk liability for suggesting anything different. The so called variable viscosities of modern FS oils intentionally replaces the traditional thinking of using heavier oil in summer temps and lighter in winter. For now, I'm prepared to go with it in favour of not compromising the warranty, but I remain sceptical about VW/SKODA motives which are probably more about delivering regulated emissions and claimed efficiencies, as you say. FWIW I did use Edge 5W 30 in my Mk7 Golf with no issues, same engine as in my Octavia which specifies 0W 20.
  17. You might be able to improve it a bit. I’ve found some of the vinyl trim sprays can disquise scuffs, grey shoe cream can also help hide scuffs too.
  18. This is the vehicle I purchased
  19. Hey all, apologies for the pseudo thread revival! It's been a while because the car has been dropped off to a body shop, specifically my nephew's in-law's bodyshop to have a crack at the sills. Then went on holiday for a couple weeks. Not sure when they started, but they've been cracking on: I was presuming it would be a quick removal of rust and blowover, but instead looks a bit more thorough, wasn't expecting doors to be removed as part of the process! From the pics I've been sent, they're still at the rear arches from looking at the primer there. I've asked to not bother with the front bumper because I honestly reckon a complete replacement would be better value and I'll get there when I get there. Guys involved are just as shocked as everyone else regarding the amount of rust, but hopefully, this'll help some. No ETA but I'll assume it'll be another week or two, then I can find out whether the cost has genuinely meant this car was worth all that effort! Maintenance: £2340.22 Upgrades: £1595.25 Miscellaneous: £820.07

I had Michelin Primacy tyres on my mk3 Octavia for a similar period and they were fine up to the last 20k km where noise and ride gradually deteriorated to a point where I suspected possible suspension issues. New Continental tyres rectified the road noise and ride issues completely. Unfortunately, I got a screw puncture shortly after purchase and I think I can hear the plug repair's effects on smooth tarmac. The car came new with Dunlop Sportsmaxx and I found them surprisingly good for their whole life (only 40, 000 km though) which is contrary to most other's reports of the tyre. Sportsmaxx are expensive here in Aus though, and have a short life compared to contemporary lower priced first tier options.
  21. Thanks to both of you. It sure is a noisy engine! I should admit that I'm not going to be spraying anything anywhere unless in complete confidence. I've already had the aux belt off to discount the ancillaries. I've also kicked-off with erwin this afternoon and have spent a good while so far, nothing doing though. I've found mention of this special lubricant but only in relation to its use for the sunroof. Loads of interesting snippets about other things but no eureka moment with this noise sadly.

As an ex H 1 owner, and GT 380, I can say triple two strokes have a special place in my heart. Would love to find a S2 350, or H2 two stroke too.

Newest mod for the car, couldn't get a black one so bought beige and painted black to match the rest of the interior. Just need to find the sidelight wire on the switch. If anyone can help I'd appreciate it?

Newbie here. Old female currently drive a Skoda Karoq SE TDI 150 DSG 4W 2019 From new. It's been brilliant and to date I've no problems to report. Low mileage thanks to not being used during The Plague. approx 55, 000 Dark bluey green, lovely colour usually covered in dirt. No extra's other than a spare wheel. But the handling is brilliant, it has been on some rough ground, tight bendy roads and always does what i want it to. Hope the new model is as good.
  25. Pretty sure that screen is transparent on mine... Does hitting the black triangle in the middle of the screen hide it?
  26. @Jonfa - As @PetrolDave says; additional note that the airbag light is a latching warning so you need VCDS or OBD ii to reset it after correcting the fault.
  27. Octopus energy tariff requires you are where you have the Smart Meter, wall charger or are using someone else's. Much cheapness, as it can be for people with off street parking and smart meters / chargers. The Social divide.
  28. Helpfully, turns out you can turn them off. You can only access the settings when the car is stationary.

Ok, other than the temporary limits around Scottish schools at the ends of the school day and lunch hour, and/or around hospitals, name one 20mph limit with illustration(s).
  30. I would be tempted to keep my Mk3 too… If I did not have to face several significant problems over its 120000 km and 7 years on the clock: - Coolant pump - Front shock absorbers (DCC ones) - Sunroof seal All representing a total of unscheduled €2800 repair costs… Not mentionning all what I repaired myself, including an unexpected coding loss on Blind Spots detection and Rear Trafic Alert, which has come back again. But I can’t solve it this time. I fear how much my local dealer is going to ask to fix it Partilly disappointed by my Mk3 reliability compared to my former Mk2. Not sure the next one will be a Skoda (though reliability is not way better with other brands).

Simple solution don't ignore the limits. Not everyone does exceed the low limits which are there for a reason.
  32. Agree, I've been looking in slow time and coming to the came conclusion. I find the latest Mk4 Superb to be more of a boring, rounded and anonymous design than the previous edge-ier Mk3, though I will await the Sportline version of the Mk4 - if it ever appears. Similarly, there's nothing exciting in the drivetrains and the engine is going backwards in power compared to the MK3's 206/280. I suspect I will be keeping my Mk3 for a while yet.
  33. Usually a failing DMF will shake the whole car, check the engine and gearbox mounts and if they are ok its probably a failing DMF.
  34. Try benny, expensive but really high quality ..
  35. I was merely pointing out that it would be a better job than what had been carried out already. 🙄🙄🙄

OK, that's a MIB2 SD card (prefix 5L0) but that's not a problem (I used both MIB1 and MIB2 SD cards on my previous MIB1 so long as I installed MIB1 maps). The latest maps available for a MIB1 Amundsen are STD1_P94_EU_202021 i.e 2020/21 maps (5 years after the MIB1 went out of production). I've just entered the VIN of my previous Octavia onto the Skoda update portal and it showed me those maps. It downloads a .zip file which you then have to unzip and copy only the folder "markets" and (if present) the DBInfo.txt file onto the SD card (not the zip file).
  37. The side bolstering on the "sports" seats stop the seat from fully folding forward. Prior to my Yeti I had a VW Touran and I managed to spec this with such a seat. Both vehicles are built on the same platform and you may find you could swap a seat over from the Touran. Colin
  38. I'm in almost an identical situation to OP. Clearly more towns and cities are going down the ULEZ route (or something similar, e.g. Oxford). Glasgow has an outright ban on diesels which are not Euro 6, and they will fine drivers of non-compliant vehicles. I've concluded that my best option is to put my 13 plate Skoda Superb (Elegance) in part exchange for a Euro 6 vehicle. This not my preferred option, but this appears to be the "direction of travel" (no pun intended!). I've shortlisted a few Skoda Superbs and am tempted by Laurin & Klement, although they are a smidgeon above my budget. It's only coming out of the kid's inheritance, though. 😉 Good luck with whatever you choose.

On your phone under Settings -> Android Auto -> Customise Launcher You tick which apps you want to show up on Android Auto, ensure Waze is ticked.
  40. 1 point
Have you installed Waze on your phone - surely with Android Auto or Apple carplay if you have it installed you should be able to select Waze,

I was quoted £680 for retrofit ACC on my Octavia this year, which I felt was too expensive so I declined.
  42. 1 point
Depends on the temperature, but at UK temperatures generally yes. And this year with temperatures rarely getting above 20c, could have comfortably kept euro winter tyres on which tend to be quieter still.
  43. 1 point
Just what I have noticed over the years on customers vehicles.
  44. 1 point
There are quite a few posts on here in the various forums where owners have changed from Bridgestone tyres to cross climate tyres and have remarked the ride is better and quieter, so it would appear so.
  45. 1 point
I find they seem to wear a lot quicker, especially on the edges. What sort of miles are you getting out of the fronts?
  46. 1 point
Some are, choose wisely. Official db reading for something like the Cross Climate 2's suggest it's not any quieter than most summer tyres but read the reviews. It's exceptionally quiet on poorer surfaces.
  47. 1 point
No, but the front assist does. AFAIK, ACC uses the front assist radar to operate it - I'm not certain if ACC retrofit also requires a certain model of front camera (A5) but I have seen references to ACC being successfully retrofitted.

@Maxr looking forward to that reply. Why would Skoda Customer Services or their contractor know anything about Skodas?
  49. And you are getting good efficiency with those by the looks of it. Congrats on the new car.
  50. Amazing amount of work and love gone into your car. Keep up the good work. just a question. What rear discs are these? And any reason why you didn’t put black discs on the fronts also? I do like the look of the black. But I’m biased as I have a red Sportline with black rims.
