  1. i had to go to Dublin today, to our main HQ. I hate having to go up there. but, the trip does mean i now get to play ALL the rounds of the game! good bye Connect Hello Shiny new Courier. You have a flat, fat face, but a nicer cockpit.. lowest delivery odo i think i ever seen! and so, Round 1!!
  2. Yeah, me too. Who on earth would type such nonsense I've no idea in relation to the question you'd asked, so typed some spurious foolishness. It was an attempt at humour, clearly very poorly executed Gaz
  3. No. Basically, all the carbon atoms in the hydrocarbon fuels become carbon dioxide, and all the hydrogens become water. The efficiency is irrelevant to what the reaction products are, just affects how far you get per litre burnt.
  4. There's so much low hanging fruit to harvest when it comes to improving air quality, but the focus often seems to be one of using improving air quality as an excuse to raise additional revenue. I'd ban garden fires and patio heaters. Garden fires knock out a surprising amount of pollution (or maybe not that surprising), and if you're worried about global warming/climate change, any device specifically designed to raise the local outside temperature seems very much out of place.
  5. Yep, can confirm it's bloody mayhem for the duration. Organisers encourage park and ride, with Five Acre Field, near the Sovereign Centre being used for parking, which quickly fills up. Only a fool would bother driving into town. My 8mph mobility scooter would beat a McMurtry Speirling on the 3-4 mile route out of town, hands down 😁 IIRC passenger airliners, like the 737/747 use between three and five gallons per mile, which is pretty phenomenal mpg per person carried (unless it's empty of course). Wasn't sure whether to put this in here or the Moment of Joy thread, but a mate's just bagged himself a near concourse 1976 KH250: To say it's in stunning condition is a bit of an understatement. A real thing of beauty 😎 Gaz
  7. Since acquiring my VRS 10 months ago I've tried to grow fond of the standard Altair Alloys but in the end they just did not appeal. I wanted to keep same specification of wheel i.e 19 inch / 7.5 inch width and ET48 and spotted the Becruz wheel on a recent Skoda Publication . This wheel is listed as identical spec. as the Altair (even same weight) and although I appreciate it's personal taste , I think they really suit the VRS .
  8. NO! You have to fix the airbag fault before the light can be cancelled. Also you at least should fail the MoT if the airbag light does not initially illuminate and then extinguish when the car is switched on.

My mate is such a tart 🙄 He's managed to find a chip in the chrome on the kick start, and thinks the saddle re-cover should've been squares rather than lines. He took a friend with him to see it, who restores bikes and has his own motorcycle business. My mate tried to haggle on price, but the friend who went with him gave him the 'If you don't buy it you're gonna get a punch in the face' look, which was clearly received and understood Gaz
  10. That figure will possibly the planes emissions during the show. Maybe not actually them getting them to and from the show & the fuel to the show that might be required. But anyway, it is not a serious matter anymore than all the Motorsports & transportation, Water Sports including sailing or any other sports, hobbies, leisure activities and fuel and emissions and all the rest. As it is there are people that Roll Coal and people that roll along in EV,s that get the electricity that comes still from Coal, Wood, Oil & Gas and there will be for decades more in the UK. Maybe GB Energy will make s difference eventually. Maybe the people in Shetland will not be the highest energy cost payers in the UK for Electricity. Also for the cost of flying to or going by boat that requires aviation fuel or marine fuel, unless they sail in a yacht.
  11. According to Eastbourne airshow organisers, only 3.7% carbon emission comes from the display aircrafts. 96% comes from audience transportation..... for example ICE cars. https://www.visiteastbourne.com/airshow/plan-your-visit/sustainability
  12. Just flown over - the paraglider appeared to be pretty close 🤔
  13. We were lucky enough to spot what we think were a couple of Eurasian Jays earlier (along with a Woodpecker) earlier...............
  14. Currently sat in a car park watching the sunset😎

My new MK4 L&K Combi arrived last Wednesday, i did all the paperwork on Friday and today (Saturday) it was shipped off to get PPF and Modesta Ceramic Coating. I only drove it 6km. I have noted so far. I ordered the Variable Boot Floor (VBF). In my MK3 (that I still have for a while), when you lift up the VBF there is another floor covering the spare wheel, giving options to store things out of sight. In the MK4 this second floor covering is NOT there. When you lift the VBF on the MK4, you meet the spare wheel straight away. When I noted this at the garage I raised it as an issue, almost expecting them to confirm it was a mistake and it should have another floor covering the spare wheel, but apparently that's the way its presented. I looked at a basic Combi without the VBF in the showroom, removed the boot cover on this one and put it into the MK4 and it fitted almost perfectly (except from the two back corners). I was given a price of €130.00 for this Standard boot floor to cover the spare wheel. I phoned Skoda directly to raise the issue and i am awaiting a response, but I reckon they will tell me I need to buy the standard floor covering. The Sub-Woofer in on top of the spare wheel now instead of being in the left compartment in the boot. I reckon the sound system is not as good as the MK3 because of this. Other than that , I will need to wait till I get the car back next week to look at the rest. So far I think its like going from Microsoft Word 2016 to Microsoft Word 2019. A bit more refined. I not mad about the dash layout, but i expect it will frow on me. This MK4 is my 3rd L&K Combi. WhatsApp Video 2024-07-27 at 19.31.27_632b71c6.mp4
  16. How on earth is this still allowed to happen in the US, I wonder just how many diesel cars it would take to equal the filth that these are checking out.
  17. Hello a friend of mire dropped the key in the lake and found it 24 hours later I opened it and soaked in WD40 and let it dry For the moment it works well but I was wondering if later it will start the corrosion Does anyone have similar experience? Thanks

Hello folks, and thanks for the add from Northern Ireland. Long time Vag owner but recently entered into the Skoda marquee a few years back. MK2 Octavia Scout TDI arrived first, and recently followed by another MK2 Octavia Vrs derv and a Fabia Vrs TDI se,same as my son's car. 3 cars was a bit much for me so the Scout recently went but was closely replaced by a MK3 Octavia 1.6tdi🥴.
  19. Personally, I didn't see any difference and was underwhelmed by the whole experience🙂
  20. Hi. Yes it is a diode. I removed it from the light unit earlier and tested it. With test leads clipped to the wires it allows current to flow in one direction only (as it should) but wiggling the wires breaks contact, so it has ibviously broken down internally. It is a 1N4007 power diode, £3.36 for 50 on Amazon. I’ll fit a new one tomorrow and hopefully resolve the issue.
  21. Seems you can only search two ways, either by VIN or through a series of drop down boxes (as already described; there are hundreds and hundreds of "sales types"). You can't search generally, only against a very specific vehicle type and it won't show you TPIs that aren't applicable to that vehicle. I've only used it a handful of times to be fair, there could be other ways of using it. Thanks for the help, I'll have a think about next steps. I'm getting emails as replies are made to this thread so will keep tabs on it and update if I ever resolve it. Cheers!
  22. Still worth finding a local VCDS/OBDeleven user... The airbag fault can be cleared but if the fault still exists or happens again, it will illuminate the light again. However, both of those code readers should give enough detail to figure out what caused the fault code which will help fix any future issues. I'd suggest trying the list or map so you can PM someone local rather than hoping they see this thread https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/224376-vcds-owners-map/ https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/262215-list-of-vcds-owners-previously-known-as-vag-com-vcp-owners/
  23. The Met Office send up one of those silver weather balloons, which then slices a 50 yard section of the jets contrails out. They then cut the exact amount of clean air from alongside the contrail. Both are processed into separate sections in the weather balloon, which makes it heavier than air and returns to earth. Both are then pumped through Mann (I believe) high altitude air filters and scientific analysis of the filters is carried out, including the use of a mass spectrometer and scanning electron microscope. If you look up on a clear day, you can sometimes see the gaps on the contrails - that'll be the Met Office 👍 G
  24. Did anyone try cleaning theirs AQS ? I gave mine a wash down with IPA , not had any issues since.

As far as I know only two
  26. The video you posted in in the Tesla thread. The thing is if anyone gets a EV then doing some research is simply Clever. Good news that a Small Ford EV is not in the too distance horizon. There are Tax / VED exempt and MOT exempt Classic vehicles (passenger Cars and others) and there still will be regardless of what he says. There are Disabled Class Passenger cars that a Tax Exempt and there still will be.
  27. Just seen I didn't put this well, these aren't loose storage boxes but the proper fixed compartments for the car, they came with the car. They are quite shallow, I think the umbrella that came with the car new goes in there, my wife's puts the reflective safety hi-viz vests in them.
  28. There will maybe be an announcement when the next Budget will be this year, and then the next budget. Who knows what the New Chancellor will keep as already announced, or what changes might happen.
  29. This is a rather interesting video of a Tesla thats done 430,000 miles as a taxi, and it still has a battery health of 72% but this expert on EV cars reckons that even through Tesla claims that there is servicing required, he says otherwise nd shows why.
  30. This is why I bought one of the last Mk 3 280tsi in Dec 2023
  31. Thanks Ords, I have completed the 2023 map update and like you I didn’t have to change any files. Is it worth me doing the 6230 firmware update and would I benefit from anything new? Thanks again.
  32. Octopus energy tariff requires you are where you have the Smart Meter, wall charger or are using someone else's. Much cheapness, as it can be for people with off street parking and smart meters / chargers. The Social divide.
  33. Octopus Energy introduce new tariff which can charge an EV for 6.5 pence per kWh ie well less than 2 p a mile for many EVs. Gridserve, the charging network at the motorway services, finally introduce an App and give 20% discount for first 90 days. Some reckon the reduction will be permanent and with upcoming price wars we should see prices 60p per kwh or less and with more Tesla chargers access to charging at 30p to 40p at many Tesla chargers at all put peak times. The future looking rosy.
  34. I'd totally agree with @rum4mo - if you're planning in advance to use the jack of doom, it's not an emergency, so get your hands on a safe jack and use that instead. If I were changing a wheel at the side of the road, and was bothered about scratching the stonechip on the seam (unlikely on a single usage) - I'd probably use a bit of thick, flexible plastic. Maybe a bit of Damp Proof Membrane, or chop a bit out of a heavy plastic shopping bag. Lay it on top of the jack and let it sink into the groove as the sill puts weight on it. But yeah, unless you're utterly up **** creek, don't use the supplied jack.
  35. They do say you can use other oils but will have higher emissions.
  36. Check also the fuse box, sometimes dust-corrosion-not proper contact create problems. Contact cleaner (the No Oil edition), light brush is a solition.
  37. First what you can see from outside (engine bay, fuel pump connections etc) and IF everything fail you have to remove the dashboard. Check each gauge individually, i will try when i get home some electrical diagrams.
  38. Agreed, prices r ridon-culous of new cars now!! Can't get the performance, value and practicality of a Superb for the price I paid many years ago. Gandalf has now ticked over 7 yrs.....and I don't have any plans to replace it any time so soon 😁

I checked them day car was delivered (Nov 23) and they were 2.5bar. It's been in for warrranty work a couple of times recently so it's possible they adjusted them to the wrong pressure (our Karoq's pressures are 2.1bar). If not then it's remarkable they were all 2.2 bar (and my digital pressure gauge displays in 20ths of a bar, less than 1 psi, so it's a fairly fine reading).
  40. Is it really a safe thing to do to fit anything between the "emergency use only intended" scissors jack and the car's frame? I would not do that, all the pucks etc that I've ever seen are for use with a stable trolley jack. Each to their own but, why invite danger - unless I'm missing something.
  41. Left side chassis leg connector was loose. Many thanks.
  42. Out snapping the local pond life and also trying out a new macro lens.
  43. Crikey, I had a bit more fiddle and asked the pooter to remove the white boat. Took a few goes and a bit of a fiddle and it did this. I doubt it would stand up with a hi-res photo, but it is a bit spooky, all this Ai stuff. Now where can I order a 'replicator' like they have in Star Trek?
  44. There you go, fixed that bridge view, temporarily for you without the white boat in the foreground taking the attention.
  45. On Sunday I decided to go to Scarborough for the day, to have a wonder, not been for 30 odd years. On the way back I briefly stopped in Whitby by the Marina and took some pics. This was the last one I took on my mobile (Moto G8 Power). What do you think? B&W (de-saturated) Original Maybe would be better at low tide. Maybe try, with zoom lens stood away (with a proper camera). I want to get more of those bridges in the background.
  46. Mine is like this, I noticed that I can’t see 2 identical 😁
  47. ah these were the days lol
  48. Cable is fine, don't want to spend any more!
  49. There is TPI for that problem, dashboard firmware update.
  50. Yes in my view, less tech less to go wrong
