  1. Sunset from a couple of nights ago down in Devon.
  2. I for one would quite like you to give some interesting examples. A test establishment is proof that the authorities of the time were not rushing headlong into an emerging technology. Will Ozempic become the new Thalidomide?
  3. I'm doomed. I use gas for cooking and heating. I've also got a log burner we use occasionally Wonder if there's any steps I could take to mitigate the build up of pollutants whilst frying bacon in the mornings? If only I had some sort of hood with an electric fan for example.....................
  4. Buying the Scenic was like pushing an opening door, I wonder just how far they would go in terms of discounts. As always look at Autotrader to see what dealers are offer. Usually it is hard enough just to get hundreds off the base model particularly but to get thousands off, and a loan rate lower than my mortgage rate and a free charger. I think there might be free mats and a bunch of flowers too. If I pay the rest of the deposit on American Express it might be scary what happens.
  5. The reactors in them are the same design as the ones that Rolls-Royce are trying to get permission to create local nucelar power stations with.
  6. So something in the backlog over the bank holiday weekend: A boot lip protector thingummy. Bit too late for this particular bumper in all honesty, but I'm hoping this covers what's already there. So a quick dry fit: With some wiggling to try and get it aligned: Then a case of using some masking tape to mark where it goes, and give it a few wipes with the alcohol wipe provided: Took a few breathes and: Didn't succeed perfectly in all honestly, the right side is a little off by a few millimetres, but it's there now! Got this particular thing from RGM, and was £69.56 with delivery for the standard black. To be honest, I think the gloss black would have matched up better with the trim pillar finishes, but it'll do for now! Tow hitch is still bothering me, I'll need to get the back on ramps to get a proper look underneath I think. I've ordered a replacement battery, using the 5% discount currently available on eBay. I'll take some pics of that whenever it arrives and goes in. Maintenance: £3609.78 (+£69.56) Upgrades: £1595.25 Miscellaneous: £820.07
  7. You made the claim, it would be good to say where that claim came from. This isn't about what I say, this is your claim, you supply the evidence to back up your claim. Otherwise it's an empty claim. Previously you've referenced "diesel is cleaner" in early 2000's. But we all know how much lobbying had been done by the auto and oil industry to delay electrification. It was not a question of right course or right solution, it was purely a money motivated solution to continue those industry's business model. The pitfalls were well known by stakeholders before it was pushed by the government. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-41985715
  8. Best if you search for it yourself, then you can't deny it.
  9. Thanks for the replies! Helps a lot to understand how the locking and the lights work. Went to a third place just now and got the charging to work on the first go, so must have been a combination of user error and not-functioning chargers I guess. Cheers for the help, luckily don’t need to do any car/cable/charger replacing
  10. Which would you rather be, medieval king or modern day average Joe? Living condition have been constantly improving over the years. Modern day average person lives in far far better condition than even the wealthiest kingdom's king from half millennium ago. Even compared to a century ago, we live in hugely improved comfort. Where did all this improvement come from? Scientific developments. Certainly not by saying "it's all much improved now, we can stop improving things" or "no new things, they are scary, stop with new things".
  11. On my most recent trip on French autoroutes, Troyes to Calais, approx. 250m, all the way with cruise control set at 70mph (I'm idle), the infotainment showed 55.4mpg on arrival. Ragging around on the local B roads in the UK I get a consistent 46/47 mpg.
  12. He he... Snap!!
  13. Turns out insects are much more difficult to photograph than Birds😬
  14. I thought it would be useful to create this separate topic and collate information as now Infotainment Software Version 1969 is out in the wild I imagine user interest will increase. All credit to those who posted information in other threads - I hopefully have credited you all where necessary. Feel free to comment on your own experiences and observations. Despite saying I was going to wait for this update to come OTA, based on the principle of “If it ain’t broken….” I bit the bullet and applied the 1969 update manually this morning (I'm a sucker for an update). All went very smoothly and took around 20 minutes. Seems an obvious point but to put your car in ignition mode, which you need to do to apply the update, just press the Start Stop button on its own, without depressing the Clutch / Brake which you would do if you were starting the engine I also switched off the climate control before proceeding although I imagine the Update process would disable its functioning anyway. I followed a previous guide for version 1941 by @TheWanderer which was invaluable. I highly recommend watching the YouTube video in the instructions as you are updating as it is a useful reference of the stages your system is going through. I have copied and pasted his guide below but it’s not my work, full credit to @TheWanderer for this: Create a temporary folder on your PC or Tablet for example MIB3 UG. Then find the zip file and then right click on it or press and hold on it, so the menu appears and it should offer you the opportunity to Extract here or elsewhere, tell it to extract the files to MIB3 UG folder and let it get on with it. When it has finished, format a usb memory stick so it's completely empty, then go to the folder MIB3 UG open it and copy the 2 folders and other file directly onto the memory stick. When it has finished copying the files to the memory stick it should look something like this... THERE MUST BE NO OTHER FILES THAN THIS. Once your memory stick looks like this, remove it and take it to the car. Insert it into a USB port, press and hold the menu button for about 10 seconds and the update menu will appear. At this point it's vital that you have a full or very well charged car battery or a battery charger attached so that the car doesn't shutdown halfway through the process. Ignition needs to be ON, the Engine needs to be OFF (NOT RUNNING)! DO NOT START IT DURING THE PROCESS. Here's a video that shows you what to do, albeit in German, you'll get the English version! If you watch it carefully you'll get the gist of what to do. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES MUST THE PROCESS BE STOPPED ONCE IT HAS STARTED OTHERWISE YOU'LL MORE THAN LIKELY NEED A NEW INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM. Notes. After it has finished updating the system, give it a couple of minutes to ensure that all is well and like it shows on video press resume an wait for about 90s or so and the system will restart just, like in the video. DO NOT START THE CAR UNTIL THE SYSTEM HAS RESTARTED After the update the built-in manual is unlikely to be available for about 48hrs, it does come back! You will more than likely receive another OTA update, it's OK to accept it. Ultimately if you are at all worried about doing it, take it to a VW Independent or Skoda dealer and ask them to do it for you Once it has been updated, there should be no more random restarts or crashes on the infotainment system, the pop pop issue should be gone too.. https://youtu.be/4AsSbGd3caU
  15. Sorry i know nothing about your car, but is the no Key for turning off for having a Child Seat in the front seat. Or does that have a different message?
  16. Put any departure time in the middle of the day and off-peak time frame 00:00 - 05:00. That'll make it work, car going to start charging at midnight.
  17. There are quite a few parameters that inhibit automatic idle stop/start - very likely irregular engine speed from incorrect valve timing will do it. You are extremely lucky that your so-called mechanic didn't cause some serious damage!
  18. Park them on the Thames and power London.
  19. I wonder if there's a way for defunct nuclear subs to be converted to produce energy for feeding back into the National Grid??
  20. I'm liking that look from this angle. Like you say hopefully will look like this. Less of a Tonka toy look than KIA EV3. I would like it to be smaller and more efficient than my ID.4 without losing the space advantages of bespoke EV chassis.
  21. @J.R. A test establishment is best placed as far on the mainland as you can get from London. Or when some tests need doing on an Scottish island far from London. (Subs / Reactors dumped at Rosyth instead, and other waste from the north flown out of Wick to the USA.) 2016 http://bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-south-scotland-36745287 2014.
  22. Changed the plugs this morning, radio now fine! Car has done 64k and the plugs look like they’re the originals, marked as VAG, huge gaps and well worn electrodes 🫣 Thanks for the pointer.
  23. I've been sniffing ( as usual ) around F-Type's but as my Superb has just hit 50k and will be 10 !!! in October I decided to have a look at the Superb config page .... I know it's subjective but I don't think there is anything about the car I Like 😞 I hate the interior with that stoopid big screen ( yeah I know they are pretty common now ) The wheel selection is just awful It's now only 265hp ( and I bet there are no exhaust valves !!! ) And THE PRICE !!! Similar spec to my SEL comes out at ...... £50,718 !! I know that's probably not far off if you take into account inflation etc etc but still ... Never thought I would say it but even if I decided I wanted to buy a new car for the next 10 years it would not be a Superb I just don't like it .... So ... I'm going to give mine a little TLC .... Have a decent machine polish etc and hang onto it.... Similar spec to my SEL comes out at ...... £
  24. @Zel It is an Automatic you are talking about is it not? A Automated Manual 2 pedal Citigo. That gearbox is a ASG. 'Automated Single clutch gearbox'.
  25. Aaannndddd so am I, and my family, we use gas for everything 😅 and my poor mum with her use of 2 log burners, gas heating and cooking only survived to the young age of 92, and her 2 sisters who had similar devices, 1 passed at 100 and the other is still with us and almost 100. And when they were children only had pond water for washing, cooking and drinking. Compared to them, we have never had it so good. 😆 It shows the degree of scare mongering and hype going on today. I'm learning some history about my city and there was in 1888 a massive flood that wiped out many buildings. Climate change would be the excuse given today for it.
  26. Pretty sure it's 45mm the cap supplied with the sealey pressure bleeder fits every vw group I've had in last 10 years. https://www.sealey.co.uk/product/5637206325/brake-clutch-bleeding-system-25l
  27. I'd recommend you remove the Passenger side A Pillar Trim and run the cable that side. It's easy to feed the wire behind, through the dash to the fuses. Reason being you can't get a wire across the mirror mounting. So by coming up the passenger side then you don't need to cross over the mirror.
  28. If it’s a Nextbase dashcam then the easiest hardwire solution is the Nextbase OBD port power cable as this includes the earth. Nextbase also do a hardwire cable that piggybacks into the fuse box but you have to work out where to get the earth connection.
  29. Then your fate is decided! As a long time lover of British steel ... I cannot really say "don't do it", but some German or Japanese offerings provide both 'fun factor' without the same level of drama ... 😄
  30. I will post here when I hear sound again so we can see how long did it last. And then I will take car to them to do it again. Last time they did it without asking for any money, warranty is still on. It was on August 20th. It is Škoda service, and I still don't see entry in digital service plan over app.
  31. I hope this nearly wraps up this thread and proves useful to somebody. In addition to failing the MOT the car had been hesitating a bit on moving off - especially first thing in the morning. Me being more assertive with the gas pedal seemed to get around this problem - at the risk of damaging the clutch. Also a couple of times a few months previously I had had the check engine light on (MIL) with P0171 system too lean and P0402 EGR flow excessive codes. I changed the MAP (intake manifold pressure and temperature) sensor and the MIL stayed off. My (very cheap) V-Pow hand-held OBD2 scanner showed no DTCs but after the car failed the MOT I checked with VCDS lite and found intermittent P0171 and P0402 faults which had not got bad enough to trigger the MIL (or show in the hand-held scanner). After several attempts I finally managed to run the pre-cat O2 Sensor Ageing Test. I found some sources which described how to do it. But this is how I did it: In VCDS lite with engine running at idle but up to operating temperature open the Engine Controller and go to Measuring Blocks. Select block 034. The four fields shown are: 1) Engine RPM 2) Exhaust/cat.temperature bank 1 or 3 [°C] 3) Dynamic value bank 1 or 3 [ ] 4) Result [Test ON / Test OFF / B1-S1 OK / B1-S1 n.OK] The O2 sensor is also the temperature sensor for this field. Field 2 ought to be somewhere around 200-300 degrees or more. [When I first tried this a few days ago Field 2 showed 72 degrees - which is an impossibly low temperature for a running engine.] Select *Basic Settings* Press and hold the foot brake and bring the revs up to around 3,000 and hold. One source suggests it should be OK to just floor the gas pedal and the engine management will self limit the revs - but I didn't have the courage to try this. Field 4 changes to 'Test ON' and after a few seconds changes to 'B1-S1 OK' (we hope). I found a thread on VWVortex (https://www.vwvortex.com/threads/vag-com-procedures-for-testing-the-maf-o2-sensors-and-catalytic-converter.1265064/) which suggested that Field 3 should be above 0.80 and that a new sensor would read 1.99. However, the thread referred to something other than the BBZ engine. So Field 3 should change to show a number greater than 0.80 or the sensor is considered shot. In my case Field 3 changed to 0.60 so I guess the sensor is beyond its useful life - especially as it suggested the exhaust gasses were at 72 degrees at one point. Directly after running the O2 sensor ageing test you can select block 046 and test the Cat efficiency. You trigger the test in a similar way. Select block 046, press and hold the foot brake and bring the revs up to about 3,000 RPM and hold. It takes maybe 20-30 seconds and I got 99.6% - I don't know what's 'good enough' for this but this feels OK. Immediately after the new sensor was delivered I ran into a completely different problem: the front passenger door window regulator broke, so I took the car off the road and had the door in pieces until I fixed that. When I finally fitted the new sensor and after clearing all DTC fault codes in VCDS lite (which should also reset the learned fuel map), I took the car for a long test run. Trying to get the onboard monitors to get into the 'Ready' state. On re-running the pre-cat O2 Sensor Ageing Test Field 3 changed to 0.84. It's a cheap Ridex sensor but I guess from the number it's better than the old one. Directly after running the O2 sensor ageing test I also re-ran the Cat efficiency test. I got 99.6% again. I ran it for a few days and checked the DTCs again - no intermittents, but then I don't know how often they were being recorded before. It may be my imagination (or the weather) but the car seemed less hesitant. I keep detailed records of the fuel I put in and the mileage I get - I've been averaging just over 40mpg (around 7l/100km) over the last few tankfuls. I hope I'll get a slight improvement. I'll maybe add another brief update in a few weeks after it's used a couple of tankfuls. I'll wait until then before I change the fuel filter.
  32. Hi there, I found a spare fuse box circuit that was activated with the ignition and I used a 12v fuse extender kit + a 12v to 5 v convertor. After that I routed the cable up the left side pillar all the way to the centre mirror . Once I get into the car ( and don’t forget ) I’ll take some pictures.
  33. and also where you live, whether or not you have any driving convictions, whether you are male/female, how old you are so many variables when it comes to insurance that averages are meaningless
  34. Mine was 11 months old and with 26000 (km) Previous owner said he never heard that sound, and his wife said she did, but from time to time. It depends on how many people are in the car. And I live on top of the hill, so my start is few heavy downhills with few 90 degree turns, so sound was on straight away. If solution is few drops of some grease from time to time, that's fine with me. Covid time cars folks, I believe that could be part of the problem with some cars.
  35. Go to https://skodaid.vwgroup.io and log in, under the Contact Info section tap your email address, then Change email. I did it about 18 months ago. There were a few emails to old and new addresses checking that it was me changing it and confirming I actually want to do it. Then had to update the settings in the car and app.
  36. You do it via the profile icon. Tap where your name is and it should take you to the Green Room, tap profile details.
  37. I have 7000km on mone. No oil top up. VAG cars will consume oil if uou spend a lot of time in the top 1/3 ofthr rev range. I hada 2001 A4 1.8T. Sold after 240000km. I only ever once topped up the oil, and i had been driving the car hard that time. Regular and the occasional spirited driving stint will not consume excess oil.
  38. Sounds like an abs sensor or abs wire.
  39. I’m missing the point a little but I adore the colour.
  40. Get a 12v to 5v converter hardwire kit and piggyback into a live or switched live (whatever it needs) in the fusebox by the drivers door. Easy then to remove drivers A pillar trim by lifting as you pull it inwards at the top so you don't damage roof trim then feed it under the headlining by the windscreen to the rear view mirror.
  41. Just updating group members with a supplier of large range of parts for Skoda's This one has a large selection of serviceable items and some very hard to source items but some items still incredibly hard to find.... https://www.skoda-parts.com/catalog/105-120-130.html Another website in Germany which is excellent for sourcing extremely hard items to find.... The website is in German but very easy to translate using Opera browser or many other browsers. https://www.skopart24.com/shop/ 🚘😏 Hope group members find these of some use
  42. Usually the cable has 3 modes. Have you changed to a memory or shutdown s&s mode?
  43. Relax, the airbag can't go off without an electrical signal so if you disco the battery it's perfectly safe.
  44. I'd think that you are correct to include the stalk assembly, a workshop with a suitable diagnostic tool could work out if the BCM O/Ps were following the I/P demands.
  45. Most will need minimum 18" rims to clear if its 4 or 6pots. Mines are 8 pots and im running 18's. I know the Tarox 6pots minimum rim size is 17".
