  1. Funding for cross pavement charging solves the problem of getting power to the kerbside but fails to tackle the even more difficult issue of there not being any "right" to park in front of your own house - so if the nearest place you can park to your own house is out of range of the charging cable (which is not unlikely) then charging an EV at home when you don't have a drive will still be impossible. This weekend I've been staying with a friend and never once been able to park outside their house, one day the nearest I could get was 100 metres down the road.

  3. Two cylinder mode activates in all driving modes not just eco on my 2024 Kamiq, but no indication on virtual cockpit, which my previous 1.5 tsi Kodiaq had. But if you have instantaneous fuel consumption display on, you can easily see when two cylinder mode activates.
  4. Oh... I think the bright silver looks very clean! The black gives me 'dirty 130' and 'Kill All Wipers' vibes. Not my cup or tea, but nice intercooler.
  5. On the top of a Fabia Mk4's starter-battery the protective plastic cover over the terminal 'bus-bar' is clipped to a sub-frame beneath. This photo of the cover shows two lever-type plastic clips (A and B) and, if you look closely at the sides of the cover, you will see three small holes where I have arrowed. Short plastic stubs on the sub-frame fit into those holes when the cover is correctly attached to the battery. After taking off the small plastic clip-on cover that protects the battery's positive terminal, the removal method I use is as follows: Move Clip A sideways so that it frees up from the sub-frame (it will only move in one direction) and simultaneously pull the top-left corner of the cover firmly upwards. This should result in the two holes in the left side of the cover coming free from their stubs, leaving the cover loose. Now move Clip B sideways so that it frees up from the sub-frame and the cover is now completely off. When replacing the cover, I begin by hooking the hole in the cover's right-hand side over its little stub. I then press the cover carefully downwards all around so that the two holes on the cover's left-hand side slide over their matching stubs on the sub-frame, and make sure that clips A and B lock properly in place. (I've not attempted to remove the battery, so it's no good asking whether I know how to do that 🙂) For the UK (and presumably everywhere else) there are three possible infotainment units that a Fabia Mk 4 may have. These are named "SWING", "BOLERO" or "AMUNDSEN", with Swing having the lowest specification, Bolero having a higher specification and Amundsen having the highest specification. Swing and Bolero (photo below) both have a two genuine rotary knobs whereas Amundsen (photo below) is a pure 'touchscreen' unit and has no knobs. For a Fabia Mk4 to have an inbuilt sat-nav navigation capability, it must have the Amundsen unit and this feature is visually apparent from the Amundsen unit having a specific NAV 'button' on its right-hand side (above the CAR button). Of course this does not prevent a Fabia Mk4 owner from employing Android Auto (or Apple CarPlay) to pair their smartphone with the car and then using a navigation app (GOOGLE Maps, Waze, etc) as your garage guy has explained.
  6. Great to know such places still exist. Dealing with Dealerships and larger privately owned garages and their salesmen can be a very protracted and annoying experience even for what should be the simplest of sales for them, and if a woman goes in by herself the very worse effluent of them tends to surface.
  7. Not all Kodiaqs are on long-life / variable servicing regimes - all depends what it was set to at the PDI by the supplying dealer. Mine is on fixed 12 months / 12k miles services, for example, but my first one was on variable (up to 18k miles / 2 years, IIRC). And servicing isn't covered by the warranty - as servicing is all about consumable parts and warranties are all about faults (over-simplification there, but you get the point). Your choice, and that's fair enough. I only mentioned it because my eldest just bought her first car (a used Mini), and without even asking the dealer said they would service it, MOT it, and touch up the paint chips on the bonnet before handover. I was quite impressed with that :-) Ooooh, enjoy! I haven't been for years... but then I tend to get to see a lot of the arrivals / departures as they fly over Gloucester - especially the US stuff.
  8. Yes. It's the comparing and cross referencing that might enable finding the correct details. Some people don't have the experience and knowledge to not fully trust the information given to them - some even seem to believe that if it's on a computer it must be correct. I wasn't so concerned for you, you're big enough, old enough and experienced enough to generally look after yourself. May all your problem be little ones.
  9. Skoda Servicing might say the DSG Oil change does not require a new filter until the 2nd service. Stuff that for a game of soldiers.
  10. That last service was, what... 15 months and 15k miles ago? I'd be asking them to service it before delivering it as part of the sale (and preferably MOTing it as well so you have the full 12 months before the next one).
  11. Update time on the new Kodiaq, my local servicing depot have kindly emailed the digital service history for the car and the last service was carried out at 80,000 miles, details below. They have also confirmed that the cambelt is due to be replaced at 130,000 miles, so still has 35,000 miles left to go, so deposit has been paid and hopefully I will be collecting the car later in the week. "Good morning, The latest timing belt recommendation for that specific engine is every 130,000 miles - I can't see any records of it having been replaced as of yet. I've also attached all the digital service records records to this email for you. Kind Regards, Kasey Nagle Service & Parts Advisor Prestons Garages Ltd, 2-4 Lordship Road, Writtle, CM1 3EH 01245 420262"
  12. Italy has rules (15th Nov - 15th April) about winter rated tyres, or compulsory carrying of snow chains. Not just in the mountains, but even down in south in Puglia and Calabria. Doesn't apply everywhere, but unless want to check local rules easier to comply. As Italy has a wider temperature range than UK (can get to low 40s c in summer, and below -10c in mountains in winter), think you are sensible having 2 sets, rather than all seasons. A 55c temperature range is too wide for physical properties of a tyre and will be compromised at the outer ranges. Škoda have a wheels brochure (can be ordered from parts Dept) and also a winter wheels (with tyres) brochure. But likely to be cheaper to shop around for tyres (and have more choice). https://www.skoda-auto.com/_doc/6d5c59b3-5d97-451a-ab78-2ef185e6e373 https://www.skoda-auto.com/_doc/c829936c-f0c1-48a3-bd99-55a507038e8c
  13. Find out about a TDI & do not assume because Skoda / VW say 'all' that is not just TSI,s. The Real issue was DEALERSHIP being landed with Used 1.5 TSI ACT,s with 50,000 miles and not Serviced to the Manufacturers Guidelines because not paying £850-£1,200 so trading them in. A Skoda Approved Used car would not have a FMDSH and servicing to Schedule & Dealerships would be paying their employees and parts & that was just not on after decades of taking the p!th in the UK. 5 years / 50,000 miles.
  14. Groundhog day. We all hear it, read it, see it. Post about it. There is nothing new really going on is there? Car fires, pavement crossed by cables. Contact your councillor, MP or maybe Reform UK. Stop the boats, stop the EV,s.
  15. While it is true, it is and has been happening, that does not make it either right or safe. I have heard of people who have had legal action taken against them by the local council for running a power cable out to their car to charge their 12v battery as the local authority deemed the cable to be unsafe, especially given that if a person trips over a uneven or broken pathing slab, they themselves can be sued by the person tripping. While this is not a widely known issue at present it will be in the future. Can I run a cable to charge an electric car across the pavement? | This is Money
  16. I think the fixing bolts they're referring to are actually special things that fit within the 17mm holes of the console. They are designed to maintain the position of the console relative to the chassis holes. I think they're only any use if you're dropping the whole assembly, both consoles and subframe, all as one unit. I guess you're not doing that, so forget those locating tools and just make sure the car isn't twisted, as I think I've already mentioned, and try very hard to fit the new console in the same position as the old one, despite the very big clearance of the bolts in these 17mm holes in the consoles. Do this by noting the clean/dirty paint areas that the original console will have made on the chassis. Maybe add some spray paint of your own to enhance the contrast.
  17. Japan adopted K cars ie short cars, taxed less and more cars can be fitted on the kerbside. UK cars have got much longer than average cars a few decades ago. Charge less VED for sub 4m, or even 3.5m ir 3m cars. Great car park in Stroud had a sign up "Minis only" (old 10 foot Minis). Smarts Twos are even less. We don't exactly deal with problems as they are creaky emerging. Glad to see some car parks banning 5m cars in the standard spaces as they poke out in to the pedestrian walkway.
  18. Not sure re sidelight but the black wheels look wicked and pretty mean and I reckon look miles better than the silver. If my car was black I would go with them. Alasdair
  19. Hello again Nigel, Thank you for your educated guesses. Your thoughts helped me. By getting the radio to scan the FM band for available stations, the Danish traffic announcements came back. Here in Denmark our Bolero can be switched between FM and DAB+. Usually, I listen to BBC World Service via DAB+ while driving. Traffic announcements are broadcast via the regional FM stations, so they interrupt whatever is playing from DAB+ or FM. For some reason the BBC World Service signal is not as stable as the other DAB+ stations, so I regularly experience "blackouts" even in flat, open country. Best regards from Denmark, Eric
  20. I was only a little newer with my first car - a 1956 A40 Cambridge.

welcome… back? 🤣 Enjoy the new car… even if the service side of life hasn’t been great!
  22. When you get the car and download the myskoda app you will then be able to access the digital certificate that shows all the car was built with.
  23. All of that paper trail comes with the car and I have already had a look through it and it is pretty comprehensive and all is approved dealers. All of the errors and omissions can be equally applied to paperwork trails as well, in short the only real way to be 100% certain about anything is to carry out all the work for yourself and even then, if your are not a fully trained mechanic or expert then you can be just as royally screwed. Sometimes you have to place your trust in the hands of others.
  24. I'll message you in a sec, but it looks like there are some retaining tabs each side which you have to get at from behind, via where the fuse box is fitted, then it goes 'out' inwards, towards front of the car (unless I'm reading it wrongly).
  25. I have the same model and ordered the genuine Skoda roof bars from the Czech Republic. Unfortunately they arrived damaged so I am having to claim. Depending on where you are you need to factor in VAT/Import tax. I looked at Thule and other alternatives but decided with the glass roof it was best to stick with what Skoda have designed.
  26. 17" are ok on 280ps 4x4, i use for winter set on 17" can be also installed custom size of tire 225/55r17 in compare to OE 215/55r17 they give: +10 mm in with +5 mm in height and closer to real life speedometer values, due +1.5% in circumference
  27. Can you just inhibit the Stop/Start for a few days or so, requires pressing the inhibit button each time you switch on the ignition but no big deal.
  28. The only aspect I can pass on to check from experience on my Mk2 are the brake disc dust shields. These are prone to rot through and can create rattling and metallic grinding noises. Easy enough and cheap to replace. Have a look at them through the wheel and give them a prod and you will soon know if they are rotted out! My Mk2 is a 2014, 97k miles and I've recently had to replace all the suspension arms due to bush wear/corrosion. Rear springs have also been changed and I'm about to get the front springs done as one had just been picked up on MOT as broken. Largely down to the state of the roads as I am very much aware of avoiding potholes and slowing down for speed bumps etc. Once you have everything sorted a 4 wheel alignment would be a good idea. Cheers Dave

Looking at the pricing - they seem to be about £370 a corner for B6 DTC. So that’s 1550 for shocks, another 250 for springs so looking at 1800 for parts. Bilstein B16 DTC are on sale for £2k at the moment; not much more of a stretch to get fully integrated coilovers with adjustable ride height. Edit - have found these on sale for £1,750. Same price to get Bilsteins full coilover setup as just uprated shocks and lowering springs 🤯
  30. That's what I thought - I had a car about 10 years ago that would give a similar error if the SD card was removed. I have checked and there's no SD card slot - and in my current car there is no SD card either and the sat nav works fine. You would have thought that in a 3 year old car if it has a Sat Nav button then there must be Sat Nav.
  31. They should - same setup as the vRS, GTI, Cupra and, until the latest models, the S3 and R. They all have 17s as the minimum size. Bear in mind in the EU, cars must have winter tyres and these tyres must be marked accordingly. If you're only interested in ticking the box, a set of 17" steelies might be what you're after - they're dirt cheap and won't suffer from corrosion.
  32. Is it All Seasons that are needed or actual Winter (Snow) Tyres and will the car be going where snow chains might be required like into the mountains?
  33. Blimey! Apologies for dredging this topic up (sometimes I just wander along the dusty and less travelled corridors of Briskoda) but I thought I'd throw my 2p's worth of info in. I passed my IAM test way back in 2005 and even became an observer for my local group for a few years before life took me in a different direction. Last year I cogitated about rejoining and contacted the group for a check drive. Happily the observer only picked me up on minor issues (well, they have to say something, don't they! 😉) and stated that my skills had not really deteriorated since I passed my test. We all think we are the World's best driver but it's sometimes nice to get someone else's opinion. p.s. I don't think I'm the World's best driver but I am damn sure I have more driving and situational awareness on the road than 90% of the numpties behind a wheel these days ..... p.p.s. I also passed my ROSPA Motorcycling test at Gold Standard a few years later. But I'm not the World's best motorcyclist either. Still alive though (as of posting on this thread, well, you never know ....)
  34. I had the cam belt (and water pump) replaced recently - 2016 Octavia 1.6 Turbo Diesel, 115,000 miles - because of an oil leak. The cam belt change was was recorded on the Skoda database according to the documents I was given on completion.
  35. Update time, I think I have located a good one, albeit has done 95,000 miles, 1 owner, had a private plate fitted and then removed and reverted to its original plates, but as the service history is now on line only, I have requested the details (above) from my local service Skoda centre. It has all the niceties that I was looking for heated seats in the front at least, leather seats, blind spot monitoring, ACC, Land departure, front and rear parking sensers, electric front seats, full LED matrix headlights with the AFS and and automatic blanking of beam to prevent blinding other drivers etc etc and the real added bonus is that it also has the virtual cockpit and also the almost none existent these days, space saver wheel and jack instead of the aerosol kit you get these days, none of which was mentioned in the advert, so that's pretty good, a bonus and a good price too. Did a car vertical report on the car, no issues highlighted there and suggests that the average price for the car of that age is around £21,000. The only issue I could detect during the test drive was the air con needs recharging or something, which is being addressed and the big issue was could another 1.9m tall person comfortable sit behind me when I have drivers seat back as far as it can go, and that, in the 5 seater version is a resounding success with a couple of inches to spare. Just need to get to the bottom of the cambelt and water pump position now, but at the moment it would seem as if all the stars are all lining up in a row for me 👍
  36. my car is all fixed now, it was a software update needed to fix the issue, which took a while for Skoda tech dept to solve. All done though and it came back with the dash satnav updated which was a bonus. Really good dealership service through this.
  37. Have you still got the black charcoal canister in the left hand side near the headlight. That ticks away like a good’en and is often mistaken for worse noise. Our engines are quite tappity anyway.
  38. Well, I had another go at disconnecting the flat cable as suggested earlier in this post. I had both, the black and blue plugs connected and the radio was on (not sure if the ignition was also on). I then disconnected the flat cable shown in the picture of the earlier post and this time the screen stayed on. So, when I lock the car, the screen goes off. When I unlock the car and turn the ignition on, the screen also comes on. The On/Off button underneath the screen is now inactive and so is the volume slider. The volume can still be controlled from the steering wheel. Since I never really used these (now inactive) controls, I won't miss them. The car is now sitting in full sun on the drive and at this stage I'm quite confident that this is now finally the end of endless infotainment reboots and full volume radio when the car is locked. Many thanks @omeromeryigit for your suggestions!
  39. This is correct there is only one rear reversing lamp and one rear fog light on the MK2 models, a few years ago I did a bit of a swap around for a friend who wanted 2 rear fog lights and 2 rear reversing lights by purchasing a rear lens cluster lamp for a left hand drive model from Skoda parts .com for him (new) then took out the whole lens and fitted the left hand drive lens uniy instead had to get 2 bulb holders and then wire them up from the other light unit could not find any spare connections in the loom fitted on the car but was not that hard to run a few wires across, why he wanted this I do not know but was happy when it was done
  40. Well, the dealer did say that they carried out a full service, including oil change, becuase the car was less than 6 months to the scheduled service date. I guess I should take this as accurate. However, if there is any doubt then to be honest I would simply book my car in again in December and have the full one year service, just to to be safe.

I had wondered the same but I'm certain it said 100 MPH on the lower display (along with 100 in the red circle). Also.........
  42. It does. I can disconnect the connector from it, then I get a fault for battery monitor communication. This fault is different from generator communication. When I plug it back in the error is gone. I just drove home without issues. The misfiring faults become inactive when I start driving. On the highway everything was ok. When getting closer to home and hitting traffic, the misfires returned. Especially the count for cylinder 4 increases. Putting it in neutral and touching the gas pedal ever so slightly is enough to make the misfire counter stop, so it seems the misfires only happen at idle. When stopping, it takes a minute or so of idling for the misfires to return. Like mentioned I'm not touching anything myself for now as to not void the warranty, I've gathered enough information to bring it in and let them handle it. This was educational though, I'll update you when I find out what the underlying issue was.
  43. Yeah. Well the park selector error is just as you say, no harm on that. The others poibt towards battery, BUT generator no comms, maybe the root cause, you need to investigate that. I'd resolve that first and see if misfire problem remain. Seems unlikely all 4 plugs or all 4 coil packs would suddenly go intermittent faulty. But I couldn't say for sure. Have you had a look at plugs, when were they changed?
  44. I stuck with the 32gb sd card in Fat32. After vag stopped the support of the mib1 component in the update you didn't need the 64gb card since it stopped outgrowing the 32 gb card... however if you had some 32 gb SD cards that combined release would just fit on. MartiniB was like me when some started moaning and we didn't have an issue with our SDs 32gb cards. Aldi ones I inherited 😉... nothing fancy. Probably the Format command in Windows was playing up in exFat. Windows 10/11 did have a bug at one stage that messed up the sector size by not retaining it in a format. Probably something like that happened. Think that is what was messing up mib2 standard map cards that got zonked. I have certainly seen one release of Windows defaulting the sector size to the max it can.
  45. Ok, makes sense. My infotainment is 10inch though, not the new 13inch one. I didn't find a thread for FL versions , does anyone know if ma version is up to date? No problems, but Im missing some features like compass, so i thought maybe im due for an update.
  46. Hello, I wrote to <email address removed> waited a long time, but today I received a response from <email address removed> that: We have considered these new logos in our next update version v1.31.58 and you can download them from 21-May-2025. I hope there will be an update from Skoda. @vegarz you helped me update, I hope there will be a new update here too 😄
  47. Much appreciated, but it probably comes across as willy waving a bit too much so I try to keep myself more to myself these days. In fact I’ve cut right back on Facebook, Twitter etc… for that very reason. Times are tough and posting your Bentley (still in the VW group!) just seems a bit, IDK, wrong.
  48. P.S. Most of us Mark 1 owners think the Mark 2 is hideous by comparison although I think the estate version of the Mark 2 is actually better looking than the Mark 1 estate. It's the hatchback that's fugly.
