  1. I bought one soon after buying my car - having spent a lifetime replacing a wheel by hanging it on studs it seemed a recipe for madness to try and support the weight of a wheel and tyre whilst lining it up EXACTLY with a small hole before holding everything in place to insert the first wheel stud. These should be included in the spare wheel kit (£1 each to Skoda buying in bulk?). Does exactly what you want when replacing a wheel. The first time you use it you'll think "Money well spent" particularly if it's dark and raining 🙂
  2. Sounds good. Im getting the feeling that the need to keep updating and spending isn't felt by many here who actually care enough about cars and driving to join a forum. Thinking back none of the people who commented why haven't I bought a new one yet were that interested in motors.
  3. This month I am quite proud because my Fabia has just reached 20 years old. I mentioned this to a friend and his reply was 'isn't it time for a new one then'. This sentiment has also been heard in different forms from neighbours, family and, colleagues and the dealer I bought it off (they did finally gave up). Honestly though I'm happy as the day I bought it (was 3 years old) and keep it clean and maintained. But it's like from reactions I'm doing something wrong and I end up having to explain why I haven't bought something newer. My only explanation is I'm happy with it still so why change but they are unconvinced. What's your thoughts? Is running a car and keeping it clean / maintained for as long as possible so odd? Genuinely interested.
  4. Hi All, I've a 2015 Octavia VRS 2.0 TDI Estate and may need some help diagnosing a fuelling issue. Cheers!
  5. Are they more the sort who prefer their designer labels to be on the outside by any chance?
  6. There's a lot to be said for cars "of a certain age". Less technology to beep and boop at you as you travel, easier to find spare parts at "Scrappies", you're more in control of your vehicle and the driving experience rather than relying on electronic gizmo's to "nanny" you along, good old fashioned switches that turn things on and off etc. I say keep it until it gives up the ghost !! 👍
  7. Tried this today, and it works on models with the automatic tailgate option. This will enable the automatic boot closing from the interior button and the remote keyfob. Go to Controller 6D - Trunk Electric 16 - Security Access - enter 12345 10 - Adaptations Change as per the below screenshots
  8. Hi folks 149km Vrs diesel 2015 engine management lightjust came on. This is my second vrs. Just sold first with 200 miles going like a storm. Its a constant amber light that's on. I'm not too worried but what are the groups thoughts. Also what oil is everyone using at the minute?

Welcome to Briskoda @Monzon Your English is just fine and nice looking motor 👍
  10. Evening, welcome to the forum! Have a search on the mk3 octy section or post up a new thread to ask about the issue and you should get a decent response 👍🏻
  11. What you can see from the DVM really depends on how you drive the car, typically I can end up coming to halt at traffic lights after a 10 mile run, and auto stop/start is currently not enabled, I've noticed that if I drive "quietly" this will happen frequently, and if I drive more "aggressively" auto stop/start will always be available at that point in the journey. I've put that down to the car having harvested the stored charge as so it is not in a state to auto stop/start.
  12. The only way is to have the DTCs scanned, there are so many faults that can trigger the MIL indicator.

  14. They actually came with big circlip like things to hold on the exhaust hangers. There may be some in the box of goodies when you get it...
  15. This is the one I bought. Definitely money well spent. Alloy car wheel screw in quick alignment tool M14 x 1.5 Thread suitable for VW Volkswagen : Amazon.co.uk: Automotive
  16. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pHhf05ZfCgSUHKWJjW2IAlHXzhsgcllg/view?usp=drivesdk I posted the links again. Maybe it works
  17. Have a look here, https://www.google.com/search?q=Skoda+Wheel+hanger+alignment+pin&oq=Skoda+Wheel+hanger+alignment+pin&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOTIGCAEQRRg80gEKMTMxMzNqMGoxNagCCLACAfEFi-DH3v8_YW4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
  18. Yeah I took it out and cleaned it completely
  19. ABS sensor, quite likely to be rear offside……?
  20. Door power is on for about 10 minutes after you remove the key so you can operate the windows and some other things. Goes off when the door is locked.
  21. I still love my manual 2015 1.4, wouldn't change anything apart from wishing I had specced ACC and possibly, heated windscreen.
  22. About a decade late on the expose. China uses mostly LFP batteries now, Europe gradually catching on a wave of LFP batteried cars come to the market which are much cheaper than Lithium EVs and ICE.
  23. Our 2014 1.4tsi Octavia wagon has only done 117K km but with a lot of very short slow local journeys. Although it still drives very nicely, I feel that fuel consumption is slightly down from when it was brand new. All I really want to do on mine is to get a camera inspection of the inlet valves to see if carbon buildup is to blame and whether some remedial action is required. Do still love the car though and it is now irreplaceable as Skoda no longer sell a manual in Australia.
  24. Thety exist because they are cheaper, easier to fix if anything goes wrong, and are not appropriate for people like my wife who is terrified by the perceived lackof control without a clutch pedal. And automatics tend to beless invilving to drive. Granted, the issue of increased fuel consumption with automatics is largely a thing of the past.
  25. Keep the motor turned on !, the last thing you want is your battery to fail
  26. I have changed door locking module, it cost me around 100eur at independent workshop. Looks like the problem is solved now.
  27. We tend to keep that as long as we can... Our Mitsubishi Colt, Fabia and Octavia were all kept for 12 or 13 years and well over 100k miles. My MX5 turned 30 this year and is still a joy to drive. So I agree with others... Nothing wrong with your approach and it's probably the most economical and environmentally friendly way of running vehicles
  28. Thanks. 110k so far. I was driving yesterday and was still impressed how smooth and tight it felt. If it needs something doing I get it done no quibbles. I have noted that its the newer cars that are getting pampered by mobile cleaning vans and owners jet washing on a weekend but the 15+ years old cars that actually need it are left all tatty with dust and litter inside. It should be the older cars that get the attention surely?
  29. Good morning, welcome to the forum. As the MIL indicator can mean a number of faults, you will need to get the DTCs read to narrow down what is wrong. I assume your first vRS had done 200K miles?
  30. Assuming this was a recent dealer purchase, I'd make a prompt enquiry about the possibility of changing to DSG. I'm biased because I last bought a manual in 1988 & really don't know why they still exist. But if you're struggling for comfort now, that's unlikely to improve.

Standard response, and understandable. Not easy to deal with the accountability if a wrongly ordered part is shipped - and fitted! You seem to be a reasonable person, but the next guy might be unreasonably "complicated" .... Good luck to get this towbar business done!
  32. The VW manufacturer tells you many things for many different reasons, most for their benefit rather than yours, the VW manufacturer also tells outright lies (10th anniversary of their programming achievement being officially caught out). They didn't even stick to their own battery 'coding' protocol at their factory as shown in the battery 'coding' of my wife's VW(Škoda) and other Briskoda members cars. The manufacturer also tells you (in the 'Owner's Manual' for my wife's 2015 Fabia) that "You should replace batteries older than 5 years" and 4 years in later manuals IIRC, John will be in trouble for keeping his 6.8 years!!
  33. Follow up: It was a duff headlight switch, which is ironic in that it’s the one switch that almost never gets used thanks to automatic headlights! £85 switch! Sheesh! I’ve kept the old switch to take apart and try to find the fault inside it.
  34. I always charge it to 100%, use it daily, try to empty the battery, then let it use the TSI every two cycles or when I don’t make it to the charging station and repeat. On 3 to 4 out of 10 cycles, the battery gets depleted to only 10%-30%, usually when I need the stationary heating/cooling option. Enjoy your bear!
  35. On other VAG - albeir older - cars I've worked on, ground is always brown. Seeing the size of the other cables, I'd say red/yellow is 12V+.
  36. Hello, welcome to the forum. There was a post about a year ago with a similar issue - it turned out there was an obstruction lodged in the filler tube; it was the end of a fuel syphon device!
  37. My last two vehicles owned for 19 years and 18 years, current fabia owned for 4 years hopefully for another 10, all bought and paid for, I agree that this must be the most sustainable / green 🙄 way of ownership. Keep them well serviced and clean
  38. I thought it best not to hang the back box on whatever joints are up the front end of the thing so I tried to get a jack stand under but it was too big, but lol this bit was the right length. Witness the crimes committed with wire and snapped rubber: This is NOT a place of honour: I had to tickle the mount with an angle grinder to get a generic rubber on, but on it is and if it tries to escape it can have a washer welded on the end to capture it FOR EVER... or maybe some allthread welded on and a nice nyloc nut or something i don't know. it's not escaped yet so i don't need to plan. At least the half rotten system now sits neatly into the bumper relief dingle and it's one more stupid job ticked off the list of infinite tasks.
  39. The most eco car you'll ever buy is the one you keep the longest I believe is the thinking
  40. Bought these past month, working well so far. Easy enough to fit once you've removed the internal panelling. Left strut Right Strut
  41. So...the car was detailed almost two weeks ago, and the guy did an amazing job of getting into the areas that I thought I'd done a good job of; the stitching in the creases in the seats are immaculate now, and the steering wheel was matte again (there's a lot more to it, but we all love the instant visual improvements!). I've managed to pile on almost another 1k miles on it since then and the wheel's started to go a little shiny again, but he told me to use Koch Chemie Pol Star (which he used) to keep it clean and looking matte. He spent a good 5-6 hours on it, deep cleaning everywhere he could get access to, finishing off with an air deodoriser/neutraliser machine (not ozone), which did leave a pleasant smell, and as informed, has faded to neutral. The cigarette smell is now almost non-existent, but it has started to come back ever, ever, ever so slightly with the sun on the interior; I can still smell it if I stick my nose on the steering wheel, and there's a focussed bit on the driver's seat, somewhere around my left shoulder, which I pick up when I look to the left, but it is sooooo much better, and I'm sure with a few more basic cleans by myself I'll get rid of it completely. I think if I can find a leather cleaner/protector which has a bit of scent it'll be gone completely, because it only seems to be in these small areas now. On a different note, the Pirelli SF3 are a dream in comparison the Runway ditch-finders; we headed down to the south coast last weekend for a bit of sea kayaking but it was far too choppy to get them off the roof all weekend (that was a downer, especially with the hit to MPG!), but the SF3 gripped like poop to a blanket in the heavy downpours and strong winds we encountered. Mrs Cubbington even commented how much safer the car felt to drive, and she'd hardly spent any time behind the wheel until then...she also really likes having her own user profile automatically moving the seat and mirrors into her driving position 😁 Also tipped over 5k miles yesterday since picking up just over 8 weeks ago - it only did 3k miles last year, and 5k the year before, so it'll be funny to see the spike on the MOT certificate in 10 months' time...I'll have more than likely doubled it's 43k (when I bought it) mileage in a year 😂
  42. Fitting the dashcam shouldn't have anything to do with it, assuming that it uses either the USB-C port near the rear view mirror or hardwired without touching the door. I'd say that the blame lies with the garage that repaired the accident damage. The next call should be to your insurance company stating that the repair was poor. Either way a mk2 Kodiaq should still be under warranty with Skoda or the repairer. To be honest, the standard of accident repairs in the UK is shocking, which is why I often try to claim for "loss of value" from the 3rd party if not my fault.
  43. Leave them out for five minutes or so. You might be unlucky, but it's worth trying.
  44. Hi Everyone, new here to the forum. Kinda fresh owner of a 2020 Superb IV. Some people might curse me for it, but it was red and I had it wrapped in "Gloss Auratium Green". I wanted a unique car, something green in the line of the Nardo Grey color but not Nardo Grey ;) In my opinion it worked out really well, love how different the car looks during the day versus evening / dusk. Funny how opinions on the color of my car are quite hefty. People either love it or hate it. I've been looking to get some other winter alloys. Any good tips on what OEM rims would look good? Love the current combination of black and chrome on the wheels. I thought the 19 inch Cursa wheels with black/chrome would look good but can't find any examples of Superbs with those rims. (https://originele-velgen.com/originele-skoda-kodiaq-ns7-cursa-565601025ap-ha7-lichtmetalen-velgen-19inch/)
  45. Yup it lifts up, but very stiff. So like you said, id go in from the back and pop it over its locking block that you can see its on now. As when you try and pull it open with your thumb they never seem to lift enough. I have some small prods for this kind of thing, use them for popping our O rings as well.
  46. I'm not sure if this will work on these d clips, but on the 'regular headlight ones ' which can be a pain, I put a narrow screwdriver into the body between the two bits that separate, rather than the tab part. I then find that eases the two parts apart without breaking the tab/clip ..?
  47. A bit more frivolous tiddling. I reckon that's it. For now. Got rid of the piano black B and C pillars with overlays from EZM. Good, sturdy stuff, and very accurately cut. Highly recommended. They're sold to fit an Ateca, but Ateca doors are identical to those on a Karoq. The finish is identical to the roof rails, so it all ties together. No more inadvertent scratches and no more fingerprints. The last remaining bit of chrome (with the exception of the wheel centre cap detail) has gone too - the pretend exhaust trim has had several coats of matte black FullDip, and I think it looks much better for it. FullDip is the same stuff as PlastiDip, and the only reason for not using PlastiDip was to see what the other stuff was like. And the Turanza AllSeason 6s have gone to the great recycling skip in the sky. It's a long story. These are Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric 5s. If it gets really cold or snows I'll stay at home, light the woodburner and spend the time canoodling with Mrs Phutters instead.
  48. The capacity is 2.3 l. The correct oil part number for the oil is G 052 171 A2. It is 70W75, but from my own experience you are better off buying the VAG oil. It's not that expensive and it works better than bog standard aftermarket oils.
