  1. Pre mot and oil service today, new spark plugs then MOT Passed with no advisories WELL CHUFFED
  2. The Daily Mail can always find space for anything Anti EV. ............................Today Power up was 25 pence a kWh credited for extra used during the 2 hours, tomorrow 30 pence. Free charging & pretty good for those with Home chargers. I just get 5 kWh extra in 2 hours on a 3 pin lead.
  3. Hi , Hello and how are you?? As yet I haven’t owned any Skodas, but I have owned loads of cars in the VW group Audis Passats and currently Seat Exeo, which has got to the point where it is uneconomical to keep on the road, So I’m currently looking at replacing it with an Octavia ….. well once I’ve scraped up some cash😖 I’m looking at diesel auto with heated seats , around about 2014-17 (cheaper tax and insurance) as it’s unlikely to have all bells and whistles ( due to me not having enough cash) I hope to find out info on how to ( if possible) retrofit reversing camera, heated steering wheel , and apple car play ( or upgrade stereo? I’m not sure what is fitted spec wise) Hopefully ( I have only just made the account so not looked yet) there’s a list of model specs and also info on what to look for when buying a car , as I don’t know what problems the Octavia has or how to check a DSG gearbox 🤔 I’m soo sorry for the lengthy message, but hope to speak to you soon
  4. Probably/almost certainly the wheel cylinder has developed a leak at one of its piston seals, and the leaked fluid has come through to there as well as leaking inside drum. Drum removal needed for inspection and rectification. Near zero chance that the brake pipe has mysteriously loosened itself.

Yep another one that reverses out and then looks. Had one in my carpark that reversed about 30 feet and into the side of my volvo940. She jumped out and said oops I didn't look. My volvo was the only other car in carpark which is big enough to get an artic turned plus I wasn't even in the car. I saw it move from my house window. She did say she would pay cash to have it repaired if it was less than £300. Local body shop said that would just about cover the paint!! Took a month to get repaired after I refused point blank to have it written off or accept a cash adjustment and then 6 months of insurance wrangle as I was not at fault and told my insurance to claim off her as I wasnt even in the car. I had just spent £750 for MOT. Definitely merc fault on this one. Hope its just cosmetic. Alasdair

Totally the Merc at fault. Reversing out without checking what's there.

Judge Judy decided on a repeat yesterday in exact same situation the Merc driver. In your case i would say the same.
  8. Mechanic sorted it. Was airlocked so he opened it at the injectors.
  9. I’m not anti EV, I run a 75 plate Superb 2.0 TDI by choice. Many of the journeys I do would be close to the maximum of an EV, I don’t have Solar or heat pumps and my home is a recent build 2017. However the pain that could be involved queuing for a public charger and the lack of many local to me has kept me on an oil burner. If/when the UK mandates EV only, how is the country going to produce enough electricity on a cold winter, minimal from solar, no Wind, no help there, to keep the homes of everyone warn and dry as well as charge all the Vehicles and batteries overnight. Don’t forget that they are also trying to phase out gas heating and cooking. Of course things over time will get resolved. The most cost efficient method runs around continuing to extract from the North Sea, develop better wind solar and ground heat options. Invest in the Small nuclear reactors for each major city and industrial areas of the country before reducing the options left open to the general public. In our older towns and cities with narrow streets and insufficient parking, how are people going to charge EV’s? In around 15 years, the future will be much improved (only if the Government spend OUR money wisely of course) Then pushing the higher polluting vehicles off the road makes sense. We have the other issue of weight of vehicles and corresponding increase of damage to our roads. Local councils don’t have the monies to pay for the ever reducing time between major repairs, they have never in recent decades managed to keep up with minor repairs either. Goverment policy needs to be changed to prioritise what’s needed for the majority of the nation/s population. Not the current Huge amounts of spending that’s wasted, monopolising Government spending. Will this be the end for historic vehicles in the UK?
  10. Hozz, been running my 2.0 TSi now for just about a year. Its more efficient (5-10mpg extra depending on how driven) than my previous 16 plate 2.0TSi, which is great. It goes when you push the pedal to the floor but doesn't excite like my 16 plate did - that was a great engine in my book. I have the L&K Estate with sunroof, as was my 16 plate, its got all the bells and whistles you could want. Love the seats, driving position, dashboard ergonomics all seem to work really well. As mentioned earlier in this thread the "safety" systems are a pain but easily turned off with your right thumb, I recon it takes about as long to put your safety belt on as it does to turn off the safety systems. My one big gripe is that I think the ride quality has got worse, bump absorption and damping seem to have lost the plot. I have had the car checked by Skoda dealer and they say its all as expected - no shipping spacers left on shocks I was pleased to hear! I can't feel noticeable difference between comfort, standard and sport suspension settings. I think Skoda have taken weight out of the car generally, the rear parcel shelf is no where near the weight of the 16 plate one and there are general booms and rattles even when compared to my 110K miles 16 plate. The sub woofer has moved to the spare wheel from the NS boot recess and as such is not as good - there are suggestion on this forum as to how to tune the system for better sound and these have helped. In summary, its still a good car and suits my life style, would I buy another (would be my 5th), not sure at the moment, circa £50K is a lot of cash for something I'm not 100% happy with.
  11. Cat N... Avoid IMHO. It's an economic write off so repaired and may be fine but will probably suffer from increased insurance costs and is it worth the risk?
  12. Fantastic effort gents. Half a million kms coming on…👌👍 Mines a petrol 3.6 but has 310,000kms on it. I had a replacement chain issue under warranty early on at 90,000 (a pulley bearing failed) but otherwise just regular maintenance. Underside bits need replacing as it lived in Switzerland for ten years of its life and although no salt as such, the chemicals do their thing on the exposed metal bits. Replace as I go. Just had new suspension coils. Still runs brilliantly.
  13. Merc 190SL with a missing bootlock at the supermarket today.
  14. 4x VW Dover 16" Wheels from Mk7 Golf. 5x112 ET46 6.5J 5G0601025BP I had these fitted to my VW Sharan and also previously had them fitted to my Superb. With VW centre caps but I also have a set of Skoda caps to fit too. Fitted with Michelin Crossclimate 215/60/16 Tyres 2x Crossclimate2 Dated 11/23 215/60/16 99H 1x Crossclimate2 Dated 07/23 215/60/16 99H 1x Crossclimate Dated 09/18 215/60/16 99V All approx 4-5mm tread. The older tyre has some cracking and a nick in the sidewall. £200 Collection available from Gainsborough or Lincoln. Courier service also available approx £50.
  15. Having talked about it now and again for a while, I had these fitted 3 weeks ago to my MY2019 Karoq 1.0 DSG SE Tech. Results - well probably just about worth the £900 (£600 from Koni, £300 to fit), but maybe just a bit disappointed. They are better on sharp ridges, broken roads etc., but still firm over these and I continue to be much aware of such road surfaces. They are definitely better over speed bumps - but that's not a standard Karoq strong point. Less thumping over broken surfaces and a bit less low frequency road noise on coarse gravel finished tarmac. Possibly a bit firmer over some middle frequency road surfaces unfortunately, but more controlled over a big but smooth depression in one road near me. But they've definitely not turned my Karoq into a Citroen CX like ride - so I probably should look into a DCC equipped car sometime. Actually Koni indicate the same replacement shockers for the SEAT Ateca which may indicate something. Regarding road noise, there's one further modification I made a year ago in the boot - thumping on the spare wheel there previously would produce a sort of boom, indicating some sort of car panel vibration down there. So I placed 4 firmish foam pads between an appropriate part of the wheel underside and the boot floor and tightened the big central plastic wheel nut fastener so that the foam pads pressed firmly against the boot floor - thumping the tyre then produced a much queter and damped sounding noise and I found it was worth further experimenting with the tightness - slackening off a little led to the quietest noise and this all resulted in less road noise once on the move. The only other slight improvement in ride and road noise now likely in this car is replacing the current Hankook AW tyres this time next year when they wear out. Current thinking is Pirelli AW tyres, but I'll see if anything else interesting emerges this Autumn. As an aside, the garage who fitted the shocks noted a rattle from the brake calipers when carrying out the final road test. Nothing wrong with the pads themselves with plenty of wear left after 45,000 miles. They said certain makes do tend to do this but there are some pad makes that don't seem to rattle - he did give a couple of examples but i forgot to note these down. I do notice the caliper rattle when driving with the front windows open, but not when shut - the Karoq does very effectively isolate the interior from outside noises. While they were at it, I got the garage to do one final swap over of front and rear wheels , just to even out tyre wear. One final observation - before the works were done I used to get a vibrating noise under the dashboard over certain road surfaces, but this has now gone - maybe it's something to do with a recent change in temperature or maybe the new dampers are reducing vibration transmitted to the car.
  16. Going to post a question ref Skoda Superb in the relevant part of this forum
  17. Thank you, I will see what I can do tomorrow. Not really much light at the moment
  18. That number of previous owners might well be a warning flag.
  19. Welcome. A 2.0 TDI with a 6 speed wet clutch DSG might be a better buy than a 1.6TDI with a 7 Speed Dry Clutch DSG.
  20. Those small led lights are ON only for a while, few seconds only. The amber for a set of extra warning light (while parking), the green for the rear camera (ON while the car is in reverse) and the blue for those extra bulbs on the front lights (that \ / shape small beam that i have discribed in the past for very dark one way roads) which are ON only for 2-3 minutes. At daylight all of them are in OFF mode.
  21. Ok sorry, does anyone else know if it's just the one engine mount in a kodiak 2022? Thanks

I've moved this to the Insurance and Legal issues for larger community engagement @BionicJohn as it's not strictly a model issue. One of our insurance partner companies will also have a better chance of seeing it and may offer advice. Link to here left in the Octavia forum.
  23. Not a bad result at all for a 12 year old car. All mine seem to have the same advisories re rust underneath subframe coroded but not seriously weakend. Too much salt on the roads in my area. Hope you get another 100K out of it. Alasdair
  24. I can not forsee me being here to see such a thing or you. & really could not care less as to what happens when i have gone. Still waiting to personally see a BEV on fire or burnt out at a road side.
  25. That's the MOT you want. Sons had a few minor advisories but nothing serious although the tester said the car before him was onto the second sheet with fails and he had condemd it. He wondered how he got it to the MOT station in the state it was in. Alasdair
  26. I'd want to know what wrote it off. Did it have an argument with two bulldozers and a Humvee, or was it a new wing and headlight? If it was minor, but costly, then that wouldn't put me off in itself. The 1.2's a good little engine, just needs to be kept well topped up with oil to keep the cam chain happy. As skomaz, I'd probably check insurance costs, just in case the Cat N makes it stupid money - I doubt it, but best to play it safe. Go by condition, and what the car feels like. Could do you a good turn. Gaz
  27. Yes the discussion on the issues was on one of @MartiniB posts on one of the six monthly releases he'd put up. He had been stuck on not being able to update for a while it turned out. 18 months or two years ago. He might pop up soon. One other guy similar.
  28. Here is how it looks since 2021: In low light and dark:
  29. Probably unrelated but are you a low mileage driver? Does the car sit unused for a few days regularly? Might be low battery charge, stick it on a trickle charger and se if it helps.
  30. Thanks all, parts on way and will follow the guide to replace.
  31. I've got a Yeti and before I ordered it back in 2013 I took the advice of the most knowledgeable Yeti owners and got Skoda UK to agree 16" wheels rather than the standard 17" wheels. Thirteen years on they have withstood British roads and potholes well, I find them comfortable to drive on and when I've had to buy new tyres I'm happy saving around £40 a tyre compared with the 17" option. I'm on my second set of Michelin Cross Climate tyres and they seem to suit the car well. (For what it is worth, I've also found the MCCs pretty quiet in terms of road noise).

Hi and welcome to Briskoda @SkodaUKKiwi 👋
  33. will do.. still waiting for fitting date ..
  34. Agreed, the system has simply overlaid the message on the bottom of the image, giving the appearance of a slight crop.
  35. Hy guys. I just found the problem. Diff pressure sensor tube... it was ripped about 1 cm around, that was exactly next to the clamp you can not see it self. i was like must the whole thing to take apart. So its solved, ECU is now counting with true data, regen times reduced. So guy learn from others mistakes don't be lazy take it to apart and also don't be like me :D
  36. Aw that sucks. I notice I also can't create a user without registering an account with Skoda. Why on earth would they change these things??? Honestly the more I drive this car, the more it feels like a downgrade... Has anyone managed to get album art working on a 2020-2024 Superb?
  37. I've been using a Wheel hanger for years n years n years. I remove my wheels often, that this was a must. Makes it so much easier to remove and put the wheel back on/off the hub. A must also for those who use spacers. I don't use spacers anymore, since changing to aftermarket rims - but it's still super helpful for any rims. It's good for ur back n legs too cause ur not straining to position and align the holes. This is the wheel hanger on the rear axle.
  38. Woohoo, this lot should help hide some crimes and make some repairs look a bit more professional for the MOT man. No doubt it will take me another year to get all this welded in, but it feels like a step towards road legality all the same.
  39. I have soon 450tkm and running strong. Only body rust is top off skirts near rear wheels. Skirt and bottom of car not bad. Now seems that rear bushings etc are little bit worn but cheap to fix.
  40. Mine 2012 Superb Kombi 1.6TDI has 425 000km on the clock and just recentlyI changed timing belt+water pump. Oli change every max 10 000km and engine still running smootly! I’m in Nordic region with proper four seasons. Rust is an issue, but prevenitve bodyceare will help to stop this process.
  41. Took the green one out today after a quick blast with the pressure washer.
  42. Sadly no button in the centre consul. There’s only the manual handbrake there. I found out you can put a shortcut onto the top of the info display. Still to make the change 🤷‍♂️
  43. I’ve updated 4 cars using USB from Mac with no issues whatsoever and with no extra utilities. Everything was just fine.
  44. Possibly something has gone wrong at the unpacking stage? When I unpacked I got the two folders and the install file. Try 7Zip - it’s free and my goto un-archiver program.
  45. Yeah i would like to do it myself. Cheers!
  46. Hi All, VCDS pinged up low battery on the alarm siren (Bosch),and upon testing had a very low output noise, so I thought I would cut it open and have a look inside to see if it was the common problem of the batterys leaking. So cutting round the seam of the unit with a junior hacksaw it came apart, the batterys had leaked but on cleaning the PCB it hadn't damaged the copper tracks, this unit was different to my last one where the batterys leaked all over the components and rotted the tracks etc so a bin job ! This Bosch one was designed well as there was only a transformer and the batterys on one side of the PCB and components on the opposite side so not much to damage. I tried to find the correct edge mounted batterys,no chance, but found some normal Varta 3V150H ones so ordered them from buyabattery.co (£13.47 inc p+p for 2 ) then soldered some wires onto the ends so I could mount them on there side, and put a band of heatshrink round them to hold them together, cleaned the PCB and painted it for protection, fitted batterys and sprayed both sides of the PCB with silicon spray to keep damp at bay, cleaned the cut edges of the case with a cotton bud with meths and stuck it together with Dow Corning 3145 non corrosive sealant as I had some in stock, tested on car then refitted with metal case etc.
