Instead of a repair costing up to ยฃ3000 why not seal the roof permanently closed from the outside and disconnect the electrics from the roof motor. You would still have a nice glass sunroof and sun blind to close if less light is needed at a fraction the cost of a repair and the knowledge that it would not happen again.2 points

I've taken the plunge and ordered one of these. First Edition in blue, expected mid-March. Early delivery as the dealer had 3 coming for stock / demo.2 points

Hello Finaly i have done it with the help of Vagguide. https://m.facebook.com/vagguide/ My car is 2016 version , i had to change BCM and GATEWAY so that everything was functional. I had to replace the trim under the dashboard was well . This retrofit depends on the MY of the car , after MY17 i think you only need virtual cockpit.2 points

Well, thatโs what was in my footwell, lol. Iโve stopped the ingress!!! Donโt laugh ,Iโm serious. Iโve stopped it on the driver side but now for the first time itโs leaking in the near side , how I stopped the leak on my particular pan roof is to fill the void between the roof and the first layer of the framework just behind the main seal. The seal is supposed to kick out the water Into the channel and down the Shute. Mine wasnโt doing this but the water which was supposed to be kicked out was finding itโs way behind the seal which leads to the cabin. Filling it full of black silicone has totally stopped the leak, Iโm not saying that the captain tolleys trick hasnโt worked as Iโm sure it has - itโs just that in my car it was a combination of leaks and Iโm eventually managing to seal them all. To be honest I have looked at other vehs to px against, mainly the vw Tiguan as Iโm not going to have another sun roof no matter what form it arrives in. One dealer was actually quite put out when I told him I wasnโt Interested in his Tiguan with a โfabulous โ pan roof, lol. There seems to be a variety of leaks in these models with the pan roof and I hope Iโve managed to cure mine. I will post some pics when I get chance to show the exact spot or spots.1 point

It is good that there are choices. I have been 19 stone without a leg and am now back eventually to 16 stone and have has everything from Original Mini's before there was Motability it was Invalidity and went from Blue Trikes to Minis and then they started doing Metros. I started dealing in Mini Auto's back then bought at auction at 3 years old. The Autos available were pretty limited back in the 1970's that you could have from Motability with big advance payments. I nearly always have a small or smaller car and always a bigger one for towing car trailers as a minimum. Auto Volvo 343's, Daf's, Strada's, Clio's, Citigo, Iq, Picanto and Jimny autos suiting me well as i use my left foot to drive and do not change pedals from standard as that makes going from car to car very easy. PS The ASG in the Citigo is the worst Automated Manual i have ever used next to ones in a Smart.1 point

Yeah, that's been through my mind too, but I think that an external barrier needs to go from glass to paintwork since those are the only 100% waterproof surfaces to which you can reliably stick something, in the process covering up the strip of rubber which is ultimately to blame for all this mess. But, as you and I suspect, pulling that tape off paintwork after a couple of months / years is going to be a tense moment ... What about the chaps who wrap vehicles in all kinds of bright and wonderful acres of advertising vinyl? Couldn't they just do the entire roof, from the outside, with an optional cut-out for the glass, a safe distance inboard of the seal? I'm sure I heard somewhere that the vinyl can be removed safely, maybe because it doesn't need such an aggressive adhesive on account of the large area of coverage. Hmmm ...1 point

Also, most of the PD130 engines make closer to 150 BHP standard so in reality they're much closer than they appear. If only the Ibiza weren't so damned ugly.1 point

That's my old 18" Gemini that Andy (Auric G) was putting in his spare wheel well. It fitted in mine with a 225/40/18 Bridgestone S001a tyre on it, and wasn't visibly pronounced. Passed on to Andy after I traded the vRS in, putting the space saver kit back in it. Gaz1 point

They were a decent motor, won European COTY 1989. Mind you, not all COTY are great! The Tipo was new when I passed my test in '89. They looked so modern with smoked brake lights and the kinked rear window, compared to the Morris Marina I was driving! Do you remember the Tipo dashboard? So '80s!1 point

Indeed they are. Very few available on ebay or autotrader these days. I suspect many are scrapped as a result of the recent MOT emissions changes, and many because of the cost of a new clutch and dual mass flywheel. Doesn't really seem to be environmentally friendly.1 point

I was quoted ยฃ10,803 settlement and I suspect the trade-in value is somewhere between ยฃ11-12k. But who knows, as these figures are always a black art against what youโre buying. My instinct says flip sooner rather than later, but it must be a weird market right now.1 point

No you don't need to disconnect the battery - it's better if you don't as changing the battery state of charge will disrupt the cars battery management system view of the battery state and possibly upset start/stop and load shedding. Just connect the charger to the battery positive terminal and the tag on the chassis where the battery connects to (NOT the battery negative terminal).1 point

Don't know if this goes here or in the Brexit thread..... Not claiming credit for it, nicked from elsewhere! Ok, this is my understanding of the whole EU, Ireland, vaccine thing. Please correct me, add something if Iโve missed it but you have to use the analogy Iโm using to help my simple mind- New pizza restaurant opens- ๐- Who wants ๐? ๐ฌ๐ง- Yep, please, pepperoni shed loads of it!! ๐- Ok, ๐ช๐บ, while Iโm doing theirs, want anything? ๐ช๐บ- Yes let us just..... hold! What we having? ๐ซ๐ท-Pepperoni ๐ฉ๐ช- Plain cheese ๐ฌ๐ท- Anchovies ๐ฎ๐น- mushroom ๐ฎ๐ฉ- pineapple ๐ซ๐ท๐ฉ๐ช๐ฌ๐ท๐ฎ๐น- Who the f invited Poland? We are not having pineapple you heathens!! ๐- Well while you decide weโll crack on with the UK order ๐. (Some hours later) ๐ช๐บ- We too shall have pepperoni! ๐- Great just dealing with the UK start yours ASAP! All ovens fired and were cracking on. ๐ช๐บ- We have ordered!! You shall deliver to us NOW! ๐- Well, you can have a few but we really do have an obligation to get the ๐ฌ๐ง theirs. ๐ช๐บ- Fine, then we shall block the garden path to the ๐ฌ๐ง. No more pizza for them until we get ours!!!! ๐ซ๐ท- Who left the side gate open?! ๐ฎ๐ช ffs why havenโt you shut your gate? ๐ฎ๐ช- You said we could keep it open so we can still go and see next door and take them stuff. You said it was a good thing. ๐ช๐บ- We said that to try and strong arm the UK into not leaving!! ๐ฎ๐ช- But........ ๐ช๐บ- (Mutes ๐ฎ๐ช) Its ok we have the key just lock it anyway. Sinn Fein- I focken dare yous to touch our gate!!!! ๐ช๐บ- Weโve talked to the ๐ฌ๐ง and decided NOT to lock the gate. We shall wait for our ๐ and see if there is a calm rational way to speed up production.1 point

Although the speedometer now shows a more accurate speed, you may find that the odometer is now inaccurate. Odometers are normally pretty accurate as standard, but speedos normally err on the optimistic side for legal reasons.1 point

Child of the 80s me so I was corrupted by films like - Canonball Run (I've never quite got over Adreienne Barbeau and Tara Buckman in that lambo and I was probably 6 when I saw that film). The lambo sound (which I understand was another car) at the start stuck in my head too. Dukes of Hazard (watched innocently as we did in those days), and the sound of a big block V8 Le Mans with Steve McQueen Gumball Rally (although tbh I was always disappointed it wasn't Cannonball run) Smokey and the Bandit (Trans Am, iconic if crap) Knight Rider Chips1 point

Is this a joke thread? Man goes into a doctors and says doctor can you take a look at my pen15, proceeds to flop said organ out whereupon doctor inspects it thoroughly and says she can't find anything wrong with, man replies: " I know, lovely isn't it ". It is now. Come back if it all goes horribly wrong.1 point

I just had to replace one of the sidelight bulbs on my 2009 Superb. There's a number of posts regarding sidelight replacement but I couldn't find one that specifically covered the sSperb in detail. So I thought i'd share my experience. 1. The sidelight accessible by removing the black rubber cover on the radiator side of the light housing. 2. Howver the space availble once the cover is removed is extremely limited - so if you have big hands this may be more of a challenge. 3. The bulb is a push fit type - yes it really is! No amount of twisting will assit the removal. In fact doing this too much may damage the connecting wires and you really dont want that to happen. 4. If ypou have a good feel around the light fitting you will detect two flat lugs or sides on it. Get familair with these because this is what you need to grip onto. 5. Now you can try to use brute force and ignorance to pull the bulb out of the unit. I found this extremely difficult - actually impossible, because; a) you may not be strong enough, b ) theres not much room to actually get leverage on the bulb unit c) the whole thing is counter to your strong-side hand, d) your scared that you will break something, e) you dont want to smash the back of your hand into the engine! 6. Take a breather, and psych yourself for the next bit. You need to keep the faith - but you will be rewarded. 7. Get familiar with the bulb fitting again and turn it slightly so that the lugs/flats are lying horizontally 8. Get a pair of long nose pliars and carefully get the tips under the lugs/flats. WARNING do not grip the wires. 9. Gently lever the bulb fitting. I found that the amount of movemnet required was suprisingly small. It just needs to "give" a little. 10. Voila! The bulb will now either be out of the unit or simply require a gentle tug or wiggle. 11. Do the dance in front of the car, as you the man/woman!! 12. Fit new bulb and test it. If ok push back the entire fitting. Job done.1 point

Just to update this, I ordered the part from Skoda, received a couple of days later and fitted it tonight. Luckily I could still open the fuel flap by thumping the body just behind the flap and pressing 'open' on the fob (even though the car was already unlocked, I pressed 'open' again and it popped open). Then I removed the small screw beneath the actuator (the only screw you can see). I then removed the fuel filler cap and, to make more room, detached the retaining cord from the car end (it's a malleable rubber that simply pops off of the retainer lug). Next to remove the flap and housing assembly. It took a bit of tugging and pulling but I worked out that you pull it out from the left hand side first, then work the 'shroud' around the filler neck, then the whole thing will simply pull out. There is a drain tube on the bottom that prevents total removal from the car, but you can pull it away enough to hang down out of the way. WARNING: whilst doing all this, if the filler door is fully open the leading edge of it will catch on the bodywork, possibly marking the paint, as you try and pull the housing out. I closed the flap a bit, enough to give some clearance but not so much as to prevent access to the innards. Once this is off the actuator is revealed - it simply slides off of the body by pulling it towards the front of the car. Detach the power cable and you have your old actuator off the car. Refitting is the reverse of removal. It is worth testing it with the fuel filler flap open! The part number of the new part is slightly different from the old one - 7P0 810 773 D whereas the old one was the same number but with a B rather than D. Of course I also disassembled the old one to take a look - there's not a lot to see really but this is the second failure I have had on the car which is related to a screw-linear actuator (the first was the book lock mechanism). It seems to be an unnecessarily complicated and fragile design where a simple solenoid would work. If I were a cautious fellow, I would think about pre-emptively changing this part if my car was getting on a bit. It's a 10 minute job for less than ยฃ30; luckily I caught mine before the nightmare of having to break into the flap if it fails completely.1 point
