  1. It is my mums 99th birthday on Sunday but there is a party with a local musician being held in the nursing home for her this afternoon. The home has made the arrangements and they do events for the residents very very well and they have stuff of all sorts happening regularly. Since she was 80 she organised and paid for a weekend away for up to 32 of the family, children, grand children and great grand children. There has only been 4 years that was not held at her birthday. She is excited about today and a few of us will be there. It is sad to see how much she has changed since having a fall last Easter and ended up in hospital then having to give up living in her own home. She is happy where she is and well looked after by the staff and gets plenty visitors.

  6. That's not necessarily an analogy that I can fully realise I seem to recall selling an F150 lightning and I think the rating on the bed was only roughly 1/2 ton! I remember thinking there were countless small Japanese pickups with significantly more load capacity than that. Mind you, they didn't have 380BHP and 450lb/ft of torxxx all going through a live axel. It was the main selling point as I seem to remember....oh, and that noise £20k got you a nearly new low mileage one in those days Sorry, exactly off-topic. Now where were we with men's bits?

  16. I used something similar but attached them to the C pillars high and low facing forwards, these were a string of sets of 5 LEDs moulded into plastic spaced apart by the conductor wires, you can cut them off and use them individually and with care fix them using screws through the plastic avoiding the conductors. It lights up the whole of the rear and far forward if the rear seats are removed or folded forward, the upper ones help considerably but I had not considered when I drive with a load projecting out the tailgate, the lights remain on and by dusk are intolerable like someone right up your chuff with a full set of Cibie Oscars on a light bar on full 🥴 The answer was to manually close the tailgate latch fooling the body control module.

  22. We had a few CVT equipped demo Fiestas in the early ‘90’s. It was a disconcerting experience initially, but I found it was a good system and, of course, no torque latency. I know Toyota and Honda use CVT, which are for more advanced now, in a number of their models.

  23. Hi there, hope i am in the correct subforum. I recently updated my 5F Unit (Amundsen) to 0324 on my Scala MY20. on the update file from mibsolution.one i installed, was written OCUGen3…. But with a minus at the and instead of „OK“. Seems like the OCU Software was missing in this file. Or am i wrong and it’s just possible with ODIS? The thing is, the SOS Module is sometimes preventing engine start with showing Front assist and more errors on the VC. After 5 times pushing ignition button, engine starts, just one error left in VC: SOS Module error and OCU LED is red. After start and restart engine this error is gone and everything works like it should. Very strange this behavior so i thought on OCU problem. Already fixed another OCU problem with update to 0139 at dealer (warranty) 2 Years ago. Any idea? thanks in advance for your answers.

  26. Unfortunately no convention for charging point location. Front centre, front side fender and rear sides have all been used. Only way to plan ahead is to install a charge point with untethered Type 2 socket. Then buy a suitable length "home" cable for your EV so there's no excess cable to deal with. I would highly recommend adding a plug holster as close as possible to socket on your EV after you get your EV, the location of charge point then becomes irrelevant and it would save a lot of time not needing to handle the cable. Charging can be done from any plug with the right adaptor. I'm not familiar with French standards. In UK, Earthing is connected to neutral and bound to pipework. So if grid has fault on neutral line, you touching your car would be dangerous. I think that is called TN standard. You want either open-PEN protection on TN standard (most UK sold wall installed charge points have this built in) or convert to TT standard by installing an earthing rod. The dedicated installed charge units communicate using your internet connection or mobile data in UK. Again, not familiar with France, In UK there is no way to communicate over power line. Smart meter all use mobile data network. All latest EV use Type 2 connector. This is the universal connection in Europe. Only a few early EV use Type 1 (Leaf). If you want greatest compatibility, get a charge point with untethered Type 2 socket, then buy a "home" cable for any EV you end up with.

  27. Mine just didn't work one day. I hadn´t noticed anything. At that point the car was 5years old, 160k km. Minor caveat, performance may have degraded and I had missed it. I had the car for less than a year at that point, so maybe there had been some degradation. At the same time, part of the beauty of having an electric opening is that I pay no attention. I often press the button from the inside or far away, and it is opened when I get to it. So maybe it was taking 2x time and I didn't notice. However, once it was fixed, it moved exactly as it did before breaking down. So I don't think you can notice. The only maintenance advice I received, to make them last longer: always use the electric system and don't lower it yourself by force or lift if faster (unless it no longer works, and then, who cares).

  28. It is a rubber to metal bonded bush, there is no movement between parts to create wear in the traditional sense, all that has happened is the rubber is slightly less resilient and they can make the suspension arm move more under force from their testing lever. Its probably no different to any other similar vehicle if there is no knocking. It is not going to heal up on its own!

  29. There was an episode of Bangers & Cash (a UK TV series about the Mathewson's classic car auction company in Yorkshire) where they had a DAF 66 with CVT up for sale. The narrator / presenter of the programme asked Derek, Dave & Paul Matthewson how the DAF 66 CVT worked & none of them could explain it properly so that the narrator was none the wiser. https://www.google.com/search?q=Mathewsons+Daf+66+episode&rlz=1C1CHBF_en-GBGB903GB928&oq=Mathewsons+Daf+66+episode&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOTIHCAEQIRigATIHCAIQIRigAdIBCjE4NzQwajBqMTWoAgCwAgA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#vhid=3fDy2X4ZGHNIQM&vssid=videos-dfd183b3

  34. Some more mucking about, this time, removing the side bits next to the rear seats: They are fixed in place with a single nut at the bottom, undone with a 10mm socket. Now, the first one, I lifted straight out with a bit of a shove, leading to: The bottom two plastic tabs to hold in place snapped off. It's a bit frustrating, but I guess can happen. Was much more careful the second time, lifting just enough to clear the captive stud the nut was attached to, then pulled forwards. I think the two lost tabs won't matter in the grand scheme of things. We shall see of course. These arrived today: Some additional fuses. I got some "glow" ones which light up should the fuse be broken. I haven't had complete success with these, where sometimes if they had blown, they would sometimes be a little unpredictable, such as still working, or only lighting up when the circuit was on. Ironically, once individual fuses were involved, or other sets, then the price difference wasn't enough. This set of 30 came to £9.09, which given only two fuses are actually needed (10a for the heated steering wheel, 5a for the wireless charger), complete overkill. Could replace a few of the existing ones with these I suppose. This also arrived: A comprehensively wrapped: Replacement rear vent as the original is missing its left tab/handle thingy. Now, upon closer inspection, the foam was a bit soggy: So it gave off a mouldy smell, and worse: This pic doesn't really help show it, but essentially the right side is loose, so the rear part isn't connected to the tab, and I can just about see it being possible to put back in. This is impossible to do as it is, unless you really had the time and patience, so decided to see if I can take the vent apart. The answer is yes: But not without a great deal of patience. There's about 4 tabs on the top keeping it in place, 1 on each side and 2 at the bottom, and they're all very firm in keeping the front attached. Some forceful bending of the tabs is needed, almost to breaking point, but once a couple start coming loose, it can be convinced to be separated: From there, the individual slats can be removed. The rear vertical ones can be coaxed out with a bit of bending, leaving the horizontal ones. There is an additional front bit of trim, which is easier to remove, just some tabs that can be pushed forward to remove the trim, which exposes where the horizontal slats click in place along the centre: Once a few are undone, it just falls apart. Now, once I pulled the tab from the centre slat, a metal bit flew out. After some attempts at trying to guess how this was meant to go back into the tab, I made a decision. With the original right side working fine, and this new one having a working left side, it made sense to transplant the working sides into one frame: This did mean disassembling the original one, so the annoying front assembly, and then having another set of slats all apart. I do not recommend you try this at home, unless you have a great deal of patience. The horizontal slats have a metal guide which is used to keep all the slats in parallel when rotated. This is pretty much an interference fit, with some of the slats hooked in from the outside, and others from the inside. There was no way I was able to take pictures of this, as its extremely fiddly. I think I ended up putting the bottom horizontal slat in place, then the metal guide onto this slat. Then manoeuvred the centre slat so it slots onto that metal guide. Then the opposing middle slat (second from top), with a bit of thin screwdriver action to coax the slat onto the metal guide. Once in place, the metal guide is secure enough for the other two slats to go in without much drama. Then its a case of reassembling the vertical slats, making sure the tab's rear arm slides into the slot of the slat. Apologies for the wording. The vertical slats only really go in one way, as I discovered when I couldn't move the tab vertically if its on the wrong way around. So here's the remains of what was meant to be the replacement vent: With the original vent now having a working left side, left to dry, as I gave it a clean throughout: I'll reassemble it completely later in the evening. The replacement vent cost £24.30 from eBay, and no doubt in the near future an untoward foot will strike this thing and break it again! Maintenance: £1757.55 (+£24.30) Upgrades: £789.97 (+£9.09) Miscellaneous: £603.58

  35. Unlikely to be burnt as the dip switch gives only a small signal to the power electronics which actually switches on the lights. The dipped lights are poor compared with full beam on my CR 1.6 TDi. I too fitted better bulbs, which helps. Check the earthing as said above if the light colour is not white.

My USB stick (type A) was formatted to FAT32, I copied the files over after unpacking them and then left it plugged in with the ignition on for an hour. I suggest you use a 64GB U&SB stick if you need to buy a new one. I use the same converter to pug my phone in for Android Auto and another memory stick for music so I knew it worked.

  38. Cannot find my Focal replacement photos now, but found one photo with original speakers, and seems in my case polarity also was reversed with original speakers. Anyway you can try to reverse it and check. There's clerly something wrong, and actually if you will have mid-woofer polarity reversed compared to tweeter, waves will cancel each other leaving you with no treble. Crossover will never cut everything, so mid-woofer is always trying to play some treble.

  40. I tried something similar this week. A Lidl Livarno LED battery powered light strip with self-adhesive backing and a motion sensor. I installed it on the underside of the parcel shelf and it worked brilliantly - for about two hours until the self-adhesive backing decided it no longer wanted to self-adhere. Now it looks like one of those LED decorative things that are in glass jars that they sell in Dunelm but without the glass
