Its more of a social status quo than just a utility here. The attention one gets while driving a luxurious one is enough to force you into buying something that you don't need or worse you can't afford.
  2. So as you have now seen, genuine parts and labour at Independent garages, are much more reasonable than the main dealers. TPS (Trade Parts Services) are owned by VW and supply all the genuine VW group parts to all main dealers (Vw Audi, Skoda, Seat) but independents get can get an account as it all just sales and income for the umbrella company. The hence Unit18 will use genuine parts too but save you on labour costs so the price is under 400. I've always shopped around for big service items and the local main dealer price was £550 and another local Independent was more! I got my cambelt and water pump done for £430 with genuine parts. The garage I used has two owners that both previously worked as mechanics in VW and Audi garages and just set up on their own. I have a good relationship with them now, and just had inspection service with them for £139 and they give me loan car for the day too as I travel 45 mins to go there on the way out to an area I work in. You clearly have a good recommendation here from @BATVANVRS and as you say the price is excellent. I'm sure your car will be in safe hands with them.
  3. Dear Briskoda forumites, Thank you for all of the fantastic information that I have been able to glean about our new family car already. We are the very happy new owners of our '64 (2014) Octavia 2.0 TSi vRS Hatchback. Purchasing it used, it just "happened" to have an option of a panoramic roof fitted, it wasn't something we were looking for. Reading the issues that many have had about the drainage channels of the panoramic clogging (and a small dribble of water appearing from the bonnet release catch), I decided that these channels needed to be investigated. I poured water down the drainage channels and from my reading on the forum, expected the water to drain to the plenum chamber. However, it actually appeared at the top of the windscreen and made it's way down the side of the windscreen ... I decided to remove the A-pillar to investigate further. The attached images are what I found…. I could not see the green drainage pipes that others unclogged. As I mentioned, our is a '64 plate and I wondered if perhaps there was a design change at some point in the life of the MKIII, or perhaps if it is something to do with being the hatch and not the estate version. Any feedback, ideas or suggestions on the lack of drainage channels would be greatly appreciated. I do have a hardwired dash-cam that I have installed and this is the black cable you may have noticed running alongside the wiring loom in the A pillar. Thank you very much
  4. To his ears, rattle has gone completely now 😂
  5. Yeh the Giulia I'm talking about was the 4 pot 2.0 280hp. The car itself is lovely, and from the reviews it looks an absolute hoot to drive and there is at least some noise from the exhaust. I've always said, the Superb is a fantastic car apart from two things. Handling and noise. The handling is easily sorted without spoiling the OEM looks, but the exhaust is more difficult. Once the car is back on the road I'm going to ask the specialist what options I have to get a 'little' more noise from the exhaust at high revs. I'm thinking maybe having them install a sport resonator (rather than deleting it completely) to see if that makes a difference as it's cheap to do and cheap to remove if it makes the car worse. I've already opened the flaps and that gives more rumble lower down, but I want something that is quiet when you're driving around, but that puts a smile on your face when you floor it. I keep saying this, but my wife's Mini makes some lovely noises and it's lacking at least 150hp compared to mine, so why shouldn't I have a little noise.
  6. Not Skodas/VW group cars in my experience. You barely get a spare cm of wire, let alone wires for things that aren't there
  7. 16 days from order to pickup this Saturday. Got lucky. The dealer had one on the way with exact colour and spec as I wanted 😃.
  8. I'm in the UK and don't have it. I've emailed Skoda through the app store about it not working. Everything suggests it should work. Czech side were quick to reply. It's been passed to Skoda UK who as yet haven't replied in three days.
  9. I've been looking as it'd be neater than tape. Nobody will see it but that's not the point!
  10. The Octavia MK2 6.5Jx16 ET50 rim with 205/55R16 tyre can be used as a spare instead of the standard Octavia MK3 6.5Jx16 ET46 rim with 205/55R16 tyre. ET50 moves the centre of the rim 4mm towards the centre of the car compared to an ET46 rim. It's a lot better than using a space saver.
  11. Another brief update. Crank is out and is fine. Garage have ordered new seals and bearing and may start rebuilding tomorrow.
  12. Another reason why fuel is very important^
  13. Seems unlikely as there are no obvious hits on Briskoda: https://www.google.com/search?q="Car+Scanner+Pro"+site%3Abriskoda.net Personally, I'd stick with something tried and tested.
  14. Sure. I'll post un update her. I hope I get the date confirmed in a week or two.
  15. 50 for the vRS based on the reviews I’ve read online. 👍🏼
  16. Google? VCP is probably this: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/486882-fixed-my19-enabling-both-rear-fogs-not-working-led-tail-mod-now-available/ Q3 is probably this: https://forums.ross-tech.com/index.php?threads/19771/ Passat is probably this: https://forums.ross-tech.com/index.php?threads/20786/ Dron420 is probably this: https://www.drive2.com/l/554598613926281295/
  17. Uprated coil packs are a wise precaution, they'll give a more consistent and fatter spark, particularly at high RPM where any misfire will become detonation and quickly melt the plug ground, the Iridium electrode itself is not generally the point of failure, it's an artifact of stratified direct injection coupled with high boost pressures, these engines run so lean that detonation is almost certain once the ECU loses control of the point of ignition.
  18. My hatch needs a bit more of a nudge to lift the boot rather than the struts doing it by themselves. Not sure if the cold weather makes it worse?
  19. I noticed my boot (wagon) slams shut really easily too, it’s ok towards the top but it does ‘drop’ quickly as it gets towards the lower half.. mines if 2015 model.
  20. Not wishing to barge in on Marks thread but to add my own two penny's worth on your question I'd be interested in what Mark thinks too. I had an Octavia Elegance 1.9 TDI estate prior to this new 2020 Fabia SEL estate 1.0 110 bhp. They are very different cars. The Octavia was higher spec, larger (of course) and had more soundproofing. However the Fabia is surprisingly nippy. It's early days (500 miles) so I'm being careful. The boot on the Fabia estate is smaller of course but still a good size for our dog and other paraphernalia. The steering on the Fabia is very positive too. My only real niggle with the Fabia is the lack of soundproofing (road and wind noise) but I'm working on that. All in all I'm thinking this is going to be a nice little car when it's quieter.
  21. I think I have fixed it (emphasis on think) When you connect your phone unlock the phone and go to the USB settings. Mine was set at data transfer but i changed it to Android Auto. Works fine now and now button pressing or connection failures
  22. Exactly the same problem with my hatch version. Granted car is over 5y now, but still I would not expect to change struts so early. When opening the boot, I will almost zero help of the struts, even after 50% way up..
  23. If you could the price for upgrade you might as well have bought the SEL
  24. Can you post an adaption map from 09? These are the stock colours (I posted above) where the top is the dashboard/radio and the bottom is the ambient LEDs: Quite a difference between the top/bottom colours but as the ambient LEDs aren't properly calibrated, they look good enough for Skoda in real life When I was looking, I found a few alternative colour pallets for 30 colours. I'm not 100% on the original sources but I think the below is accurate. From VCP: From a Q3: From a Passat: From dron420 on drive2: I think like most things, you just been to pick colours that suit you
  25. Hi Wino, I would be asking the same questions but what about dropping the sump to look for metallic residue in the oil and oil pick up strainer, not so easy on the pallet though, having said I hope you have got a good one and all goes well. Martin
  26. Hello FGD The answer I got was directly from Skoda support in the Czech Republic. "currently there is no way to activate this function on cars with the old model of MIB" 'Currently' still sounds hopefull for you guys, but I'm only driving my car for four months (company car policy :-) ) I'm not expecting the update to roll out on this short notice. If it does, I'll share it in this topic.
  27. I am done with Skoda dealer servicing. How can they charge £99 for spark plugs (now normally 3, not 4) £139 for aircon servicing (a rise from £79) and £39 for pollen/cabin filter? They are doing their utmost to discredit what remains of their reputation while dissuading customers to use their services. Taking the Mick comes to mind.
  28. That may well be the case for Mk2 (although i thought they were 4 years, but dont really know), but for non FL Mk3 (vrs) Skoda have confirmed it's 5 years or 140k. Although, to be fair, there does seem to be different guidance depending on engine variant and country, and even some variances from different dealers. But either way, 60k is excessively low in my view
  29. For earlier Mk2 and non FL Mk3, its 5 years or 60k miles. I wouldn't risk my car going to 140k miles. That's just crazy.
  30. I bought a 51 plate 2001 Octavia Estate (1.9 tdi) in April 2005 from my chauffeur pal with 188000 miles on the clock, I did not really want it as it was not as convenient as my Alhambra for my move to France but it was so cheap and left me £1500 better off when the Alhambra sold it only had to last me a year for the gamble to have paid off. In fact I got it the night before I moved so had to empty the Alhambra and squeeze it all in the Octavia. 13 years later and at 325000 miles it was still as sweet as a nut, it was only not being able to resolve the problem of all but the drivers door being deadlocked that made me buy an even better value MK2. In hindsight had I invested in VCDS while I owned it then it would not have been scrapped, however it was 17 years old before having any electronic shenanigans, I did not even realise that it had canbus comms, the MK2 needed me to by VCDS within a week, up my skillset and make up for 13 years of not keeping my hand in. I replaced the DMF and one cambelt (none had been done before even though my pal had paid for a couple of replacements) in all that time plus a coolant temp sensor, alternator brushes, fuel sender etc, brake pads and eventually discs because of a hairline ctack on one at 300000 miles, original exhaust & would have still been on the original battery if I hadn't left the lights on & killed it. I also gave the turbo the good news with Lidl oven cleaner once or twice. It never ever broke down or used any oil. Never in my life had I kept a car more than a couple of years, the MK1 Octavia changed all that, you dont give up on a good thing. My only complaint was that it was so reliable it left me to play 15 years of catch up on vehicle electronics & emission controls when I did change it for a 2006 vehicle. The jump to a 2015 was pretty painless because the 2006 Octavia kept me on my toes most of the time.
  31. Agree mate , compared to my prev Superb sportline , seems a bit cheaper. Also my daughter commented on the doors being really light compared to the Superb. As with any new car choice , you compromise and never get all the spec you want for the price your prepared to pay. Have noticed the system is a bit slow to start and always starts with fake engine noise. I have to wait till booted to turn that off. The sound does my nut in , ok for showing off but not popping to the local shops.
  32. You got me on that one Wheel bearing ok for now (reaches out to touch a bit of wood), the reason it had a head gasket is because when I did the cam belt last year the tensioner stud desided it did not like the head anymore and stripped the threads while the engine was running!!!!, made an awful racket, thought the engine was toast, even got a spare just in case, but nope head off pour petrol down the intakes all ok (see photos on the cam belt thread somewhere on here), the valves just kissed the pistons, not a full on snog like you usually get, otherwise it would be on the same head gasket, mind you it was on the way out, and no8 head bolt was loose!!! to(did not crack like the rest of them). Trev
  33. On cambelt change, there're a few references in this thread to 5 years or 60,000 miles, but I'm pretty sure it's actually 5 years or 140,000 miles. Skoda confirmed this when i booked mine in earlier this week

Hi, Canton will be available later. I have the standard audio system for the 82 kWh battery (8 speakers) and the soud is pretty good (similar to my Octavia (2018) with Canton).
  35. Hi. If you ever needed any help with insurance for a re-map then please feel free to drop me a line. Regards, Dan.
  36. Tried several times re-booting it & suddenly it gave me the source option on the sd Tried re-booting a few times & then it suddenly gave me the source option. All went thru smoothly, so thankyou for the advice.
  37. Thank you for your concern!) I can read English well. It's harder to write. Especially technical terms. By the way, my winter tires are 215 / 65R16. I agree with you that this is an excellent choice of size.
  38. It's still f'ugly no matter how many vids of it are posted...
  39. I’ve got an update on this! I ended up taking the car back to the garage, and they sent it to a car electrician. It looks like they’ve found the fault, a previous owner had fitted a black box for the insurance, and it was draining 80% of the battery apparently. They’ve removed it & it looks like it’s running fine now, fingers crossed! The mechanic said something about replacing the autometer (?) which I think might be to do with the dashboard lights being on, but I’m not entirely sure. Thanks everyone who replied for your help, I really appreciate it!
  40. I've been using unit18 since 2015, not just for servicing but add on's too, from retro fit cc, changed my steering wheel to the flat bottom version, remus exhaust, R600 intake, front grill change to the superskoda honeycomb version & servicing every year since 2015 & everything is always spot on from these guys, quality workmanship, service & most of all they are very honest & fair. Just say to Alistair that Richard with the blue Skoda vRS combi recommended you from the forum, you won't get a discount unfortunately but what you will get will be a reoccurring visit every year as you will be very happy with there service etc... I come all the way from London to travel to them (1 hour) there is plenty garage's in around the London area but I don't trust them. I've always received great service from unit18 so I've had no reason to go elsewhere & lets say even if they did do something wrong (which they haven't) I would always give them the benefit of the doubt purely for all of the good times outweighs. Also I believe in mistakes can sometimes happen but you know with a main dealer most of them try to cover this up.
  41. Thanks a lot! I just requested quotations from both of these places too
  42. Hello Finaly i have done it with the help of Vagguide. https://m.facebook.com/vagguide/ My car is 2016 version , i had to change BCM and GATEWAY so that everything was functional. I had to replace the trim under the dashboard was well . This retrofit depends on the MY of the car , after MY17 i think you only need virtual cockpit.
  43. Maybe when there are Enyaq's around for owners / tester to try this they will.
  44. No, I'm not really a 'driver' per se, but I can fix anything that has moving parts. What's nuts is that you just WILL NOT permit any view that varies slightly from your own, and that your own view is based upon historical ownership of one of these mythological beasts together with masses of anecdotes gathered from the Internets, then randomly pasted and smeared over every thread you consider faintly relevant. My experience is that an engine is an engine and that I'll work on anything if it pays properly. My guess is you that needed professional help back then and that it cost you a lot of money.
  45. This is nuts, if they run as rich as you say then they'd never pass an MOT. Full boost and hard acceleration makes sense as that's when the mixture would be leaning off the most and therefore the hardest to ignite leading to detonation. My read of the oiling up would be due to localised overheating of the piston crown leading to pinched rings and smeared ring lands. Bear in mind I've seen just about every kind of engine failure mode there is with both two and four stroke engines over four decades and I can tell you there's nothing new under the sun. Yes, there's no science in wittering on about plug brands, it's all anecdotal.
  46. Sadly my PCP deal has ended and I'm having to return my Mk3 Octavia Estate to Skoda as I'm having to tighten the purse strings with what's going on in the world right now. It's been a fun four years, but it's back to using public transport for most of my travel needs for the foreseeable future. Hopefully I'll be back once (used) Mk4s are available for a reasonable price.
