  1. I think you will find the "approx reverse capacity" is simply the approximate amount of fuel (6l) left in the tank when the low fuel warning light comes on. Tanks are made from plastic and aren't made to precision dimensions so the frequent use of the word approximate. Never overfill the tank, stop when you get to the first click off point. If you fill the expansion /filler tube there is a real possibility you will flood the EVAP system with neat fuel and ruin the carbon filled evap cannister. Not only will you get eml light on, but you will possibly have an expensive repair bill as happened to another member who reported his experience.

Quick update. I put a note through the letterboxes of the local residents asking if they had seen anything. I mentioned the times it could have happened and that it was a silver car. Had 2 knocks on the door. First was from one neighbour who thought, like I did, that it was my immediate neighbour who has a silver Mercedes. He did say his initial thought was it was Luke, a youngster whose car is junk but who hadn’t been around. The next knock was from Luke and his dad. It transpired that he had popped home at 1am to get some “baccy” and that he’d backed into mine on the way out. He said he checked his car when he got back to where he was staying and couldn’t see any new damage and assumed mine would be OK. He didn’t tell his parents but when they read my note, they asked and he confessed. So, he’s going to pay for repairs (£650) in cash as don’t want it going through insurance (he recently drove into/over a motorbike parked outside too) which is fine with me. He seemed contrite and apologised and I felt a little guilty as he’s young and we all dropped the ball when we were youths, but, I think (hope) he’ll learn from this. The body shop repair will be essentially invisible which is good. I’ll know it’s been repaired but it is just a car at the end of the day. I promised my wife I would remember that!

If the silica bag has split, it is a long hard lengthy flush process because silica doesn't dissolve (in anything you could put in a car's cooling system), so it all has to come out and usually involves some dismantling. But then, as others have done, ask Skoda to cover the cost.
  5. I would never accept an unbalanced wheel regardless of where on the car it was being fitted. Not doing so is very poor on the part of whoever fitted them.
  6. That's just people being lazy and not do the job properly! Wheels should be balanced no matter where they are fitted!

Hi all, further to my recent post on this, and after reading many similar ones, I decided to do as others have done and remove the bag. The tank was single skinned, so bag came out pretty easy. It had not split but there was small black debris in the tank and it was pretty brown and dirty, so I brought a new one and fitted that. Topped up with G12 Evo. After running for a hour or so there is evidence of small amount of the black debris returned to the tank. Not sure what this is but will for now observe and wait. Heater works ok and no overheating. Fingers crossed its ok. Cheers to all who have offered advice, its much appreciated.

Good luck to you. I think we all have different things going on in our lives and a car sometimes isn't really too important. I really hope that they fix it soon. I lost my rag after waiting 3 weeks and then nothing and then being told it could be a few months. It should not be taking this long if it had all been tested properly in the first place. It must be costing Skoda a fortune!
  11. well everyone, after a couple of weeks I'm happy to say that the ValetPro enzyme odour eater has more or less totally removed the smoke smell from the car, with one application! I'm very pleased with how well it worked
  12. Exactly what happened to me. Dealers cannot promise because there a faults all over. I just cut my losses. Be aware that when you get a buy back figure from the dealer, they will want an answer in 2-3 days.

  18. So after almost 9 weeks since I've placed order my new cat-back system has arrived from Germany. It's getting fitted on Saturday so there will be plenty of evidence both in video and picture form😎😈 also got certificate with it to say it's EU approved sport exhaust😛

  20. Brilliant, thanks silver and Kenny. I'll look into those suggestions. I'm thinking of taking the sump off, too, and replacing the oil uptake pipe. I've read quite a few threads about issues with that. With so little documentation available to me, I've got no idea how regularly it's been serviced. Seems like another "better safe than sorry" job.
  21. Hey, just wanted to say thanks for the help on the forum this week from you all, especially @e-Roottoot. Really means a lot that folks are willing to share their knowledge around. After your prompting, I pushed the dealer a lot harder on the service history. The more I pushed, the more bluff there was. The vehicle had been on the 'variable' path, which meant that nothing more than an oil change had actually been done in 3.5 years. The dealer's offer to undertake the 'year 4' service before handover, turned out to just be an oil change, not the £310 of missing 'recommended items' (inc brake fluid, sparkplugs etc). Long story short, I withdrew. Called another dealer on a 2.0l TSI DSG and the service was night and day better. They immediately pulled up and emailed me the full service record certificate. This time it was on the 'interim' path and they had already undertaken the necessary ‘recommended’ items after they part-exed the car from their customer, ready for resale. Also, I hopefully have the added security of the less problematic wet DSG. Although I’m sure they also have their niggles too.
  22. Ignorance - the product knowledge of most car sales people is verging on zero. Modern cars DO learn your driving style, BUT they keep learning it because we don't always drive like a Granny or always drive like Ayrton Senna so they keep adapting to how you've been driving recently it's not 'set in stone' over the first 500-1000 miles.
  23. If his lips were moving then anything you heard was bull****! If they weren't then you imagined it, in which case there is a far greater chance (albeit very remote) of it being true
  24. Managed to find some used Leyo paddle extensions in black from eBay, which arrived today. Only £40 - very impressed with the look and quality. Not sure I'd pay the retail of around £150, so chuffed to get them at this price!

No I've never done any of the UKGSer gatherings. I mostly ride a bike to get away from other people. I've never been to Spain on the bike either, although I have driven in France and Spain a fair bit. In fact, the only country I've ridden in, apart from Britain and Northern Ireland is the USA where I've done a fair few miles over the years.
  26. Not suprising given the remnants of the bearing shell backing material in the sump, I had a tiny bit of hope that it might have been a thrust bearing spat out but no longer. Terminal I'm afraid.

That's correct, but it depends upon when you tell them of the fault. If you tell them the fault before the 30 days are up, then the clock stops until the repair is completed. The Which legal team explained that to me over a 1-2-1 call specifically on this issue and also sent me a template letter which also includes the 2008 about misleading/misrepresentation. As a consumer organisation, I have faith in their viewpoint. My experience with my dealer is very different in that they are communicating with both myself and Skoda UK on a regular basis and have so far promised that they will do what they can to make sure I don't lose out. This includes a complete refund or finding a suitable replacement, which I sadly have to accept will not be as well specced as the SEL FE and all the options that it had included (HUD, Virtual Pedal, Matrix Lights, Travel Assist, Spare Wheel, 18inch Alloys, special paint). I paid just under 20,800 with 3,500 on the clock in Jan, when I try and spec an equivalent vehicle on a car discount website....it's close to 29,000...much more on the Skoda website. I'm with @OctaviaFirstEdit, reliability is the key thing. In the 850 miles I've done on the hire car, not single problem at all (it's a Ford Kuga 21 plate). Went to a car supermarket yesterday and sat in lots of different cars - from Kodiaq's to Volvo's and the Octavia is still the best for my needs. So maybe a Mk3.5 is actually the right thing to do....perhaps a Scout!

I would have thought that a physical deterrent such as a metal box around the catalytic converter, with the appropriate warning stickers, would have been more effective as people just seem to ignore car alarms these days and those that do try to stop a theft have been threatened with physical violence.
  29. here u go @bubib5. keep in mind 09 Electrics changed (coding) between MY16 (urs) and MY17 (mine). also keep in mind @defiant has a facelift MY20, which has newer modules and likely different coding and adaptations. good luck. adpmap-05-3Q0-959-435-E.CSV adpmap-09-5Q0-937-084-CG.CSV adpmap-6D-5Q0-959-107-L.CSV
  30. A/C should work better with both fans able to run at low speed, irrespective of coolant temperature. That was actually the first indication that the main fan's low speed on ours was busted; at a standstill in hot weather with A/C on, the main fan would cycle between off and on at full speed every few seconds, instead of the low speed working continuously.
  31. Thanks Wino and Ken.
  32. I am fairly sure it somehow slides - off. Something tells me there is a captive screw keep the sliding part in place. I'll check and get back to you.
  33. I guess it will make a too aggressive sound when you open the valve in the central resonator...but at least it won't be a vacuum cleaner noise anymore I wait to hear the new sound

Hi , no problem. I just called them and they Opened a case for me. They seem very helpful ( much better they I have found ford in the past) . Just explain your cars just out of warranty and low mileage. Also the fact this flush is only required because of a silica bag skoda fit . they called me with a offer also possibility your deal may also help towards cost .
  35. Thanks PetrolBloke, that's really useful. I'll certainly keep my eye out for those potential issues. Cheers. I've ordered a full set of those NGK plugs. The car came with very little documentation, so I'm playing it safe, even though you're quite right that they are durable.
  36. My first post here, and english is not my native. I have finally managed to install the Sinosmart reversing camera on my Octavia mk3 MY2015 (nickname: brownie). The hardest part was the cabling to the head unit, but figured out somehow. The other one was the factory release switch, where I could use a third arm for the removal. The image quality is not the greatest, as others already noted, but it works fine (not sure now for how long) as well as the dynamic trajectory. The supplied tool for the radio removal is a crap, so be careful ! Mine has stucked into the head unit and it took me at least two hours to remove it... Anyway enough of the complaints, here are some distance check at the green and the red line. The green distance is about ~1m (~3ft), the red is about .5-.6m (<2ft), which I think good enough.
  37. Yes, they are reflective and they conform to the British Standard BSAU145d. They're a lot thinner profile to the acrylic plates, and hopefully will look fresher for longer. https://www.onestopnumberplates.co.uk/product/premium-aluminium-number-plate/ for anyone else interested. From September this year, I believe all new cars will be supplied with aluminium plates in place of the default plastic ones.

  39. Find a saddler/leather repairs online near to you, they should be able to repair the scratch. Have to say that because of the leather in mine I bought roof bars for this reason. It would annoy me intensely if I had done the same.

I think it will be a flow valve. I had a new matrix fitted to mine at 2 years old. No change. The dealer was useless. Skoda said to change it. It ended up being a flow valve!
  41. Phone call from Skoda today. It could be the thermostat or the water pump. They said the gasket had a small nick in it, they won’t know till they take them apart! Skoda are now covering 70% of parts and 50% labour. I thought it must be common for them to cover some of the costs with no arguing esp as they did not do the last Service. The dealer has go ahead from Skoda and will have the parts for every outcome in the morning. Fingers crossed it’s fixed tomorrow.
  42. @FrankNicklin Not quite on topic but I just had my A/C serviced by a very experienced independent I found locally. It was still good and cold but needed 200grams of gas to refill to 500grams. So just because it's cold does not mean all is necessarily ok.

Thats gutting and very annoying! I'd maybe wait for neighbours to come back and see if any damage on their car...and if its obvious, maybe ask how they want to go about it? They maybe happy to pay for repairs if it was an accident, prior to ringing your own insurance company - fear of a non-fault claim pushing premium up - regardless that you werent even in the vehicle when it happened, hear of stories when it happens.
  44. Honestly mate, if I (ever) get an update and suggested resolution from No Hope Skoda (TM) and that includes an offer of a replacement MK4 and it works and I take it I'll post an 'honest review' and let everyone know. Customer service is surely as important as the car itself, when it isn't working, and I'm basically being treated like scum at the moment. I'm not a person with an issue they want to fix, I'm a problem they are trying to pretend doesn't exist. That alone should put people off.
  45. Well, I do have some ideas about them getting through Type Approval. They have to drive down a lane made of the motor industry executives and engineers who produce the control systems and present them for TA, the TA civil servants who test them, and the politicians who vote to make them legal. I figure either we prove them to be actually safe, or lose some of those responsible. It should concentrate minds wonderfully!
  46. Glad to see some new contributors to the thread, and some lovely looking motors! It's been a few weeks for me as I've been stupidly busy with work, but I've done a few things to the motor this past weekend. New 18" OEM Vega alloys with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5s all round. I got a bit of a bargain on the wheels, so I'm super happy there. 4 x new tyres has made an incredible difference to all aspects of the car's performance too, which is wonderful. Anyway, this is a detailing thread! I've applied 2 layers of Gyeon G2 Rim ceramic coating to the alloys, so fingers crossed it holds up as well as the reviews suggest. It was super easy to work with; almost too easy, which makes me wonder if I was doing it wrong! haha. Once the wheels were installed, I took advantage of each corner being lifted by applying an even coat of Autoglym performance dressing gel to the tyres. The day before, I'd given the car a good clean after quite a bit of driving over the previous fortnight (bugs galore!). Process (& products); Alloy clean (Autoglym Magma - first time using it and it was quite impressive) Jet wash to loosen dirt up on the body and blast off the magma from the wheels Snow foam (AD purple velvet) 2 bucket method wash (Sonax gloss, using hog hair brushes to get into the crevices). I did this in steps, as it was so hot - contact wash, pressure wash and dry a section before going on to avoid water stains). Dry (woolly mammoth towel & a cheaper Kent towel to assist) Here it is, clean and with new shoes;
  47. I have the Thule 3 bike version with 7 pin connection. Had it for a good few years and never had any issues. Seems very sturdy, and the rear lights are bright and clearly visible. I’ve no experience of the 4 bike version, but if it’s as good as this one I have, I’d be more than happy with it. can’t help with the seat query though.
