  1. I think you will find the "approx reverse capacity" is simply the approximate amount of fuel (6l) left in the tank when the low fuel warning light comes on. Tanks are made from plastic and aren't made to precision dimensions so the frequent use of the word approximate. Never overfill the tank, stop when you get to the first click off point. If you fill the expansion /filler tube there is a real possibility you will flood the EVAP system with neat fuel and ruin the carbon filled evap cannister. Not only will you get eml light on, but you will possibly have an expensive repair bill as happened to another member who reported his experience.

Quick update. I put a note through the letterboxes of the local residents asking if they had seen anything. I mentioned the times it could have happened and that it was a silver car. Had 2 knocks on the door. First was from one neighbour who thought, like I did, that it was my immediate neighbour who has a silver Mercedes. He did say his initial thought was it was Luke, a youngster whose car is junk but who hadn’t been around. The next knock was from Luke and his dad. It transpired that he had popped home at 1am to get some “baccy” and that he’d backed into mine on the way out. He said he checked his car when he got back to where he was staying and couldn’t see any new damage and assumed mine would be OK. He didn’t tell his parents but when they read my note, they asked and he confessed. So, he’s going to pay for repairs (£650) in cash as don’t want it going through insurance (he recently drove into/over a motorbike parked outside too) which is fine with me. He seemed contrite and apologised and I felt a little guilty as he’s young and we all dropped the ball when we were youths, but, I think (hope) he’ll learn from this. The body shop repair will be essentially invisible which is good. I’ll know it’s been repaired but it is just a car at the end of the day. I promised my wife I would remember that!

If the silica bag has split, it is a long hard lengthy flush process because silica doesn't dissolve (in anything you could put in a car's cooling system), so it all has to come out and usually involves some dismantling. But then, as others have done, ask Skoda to cover the cost.
  5. I would never accept an unbalanced wheel regardless of where on the car it was being fitted. Not doing so is very poor on the part of whoever fitted them.
  6. That's just people being lazy and not do the job properly! Wheels should be balanced no matter where they are fitted!

Hi all, further to my recent post on this, and after reading many similar ones, I decided to do as others have done and remove the bag. The tank was single skinned, so bag came out pretty easy. It had not split but there was small black debris in the tank and it was pretty brown and dirty, so I brought a new one and fitted that. Topped up with G12 Evo. After running for a hour or so there is evidence of small amount of the black debris returned to the tank. Not sure what this is but will for now observe and wait. Heater works ok and no overheating. Fingers crossed its ok. Cheers to all who have offered advice, its much appreciated.

Good luck to you. I think we all have different things going on in our lives and a car sometimes isn't really too important. I really hope that they fix it soon. I lost my rag after waiting 3 weeks and then nothing and then being told it could be a few months. It should not be taking this long if it had all been tested properly in the first place. It must be costing Skoda a fortune!
  11. well everyone, after a couple of weeks I'm happy to say that the ValetPro enzyme odour eater has more or less totally removed the smoke smell from the car, with one application! I'm very pleased with how well it worked
  12. Exactly what happened to me. Dealers cannot promise because there a faults all over. I just cut my losses. Be aware that when you get a buy back figure from the dealer, they will want an answer in 2-3 days.

  17. So after almost 9 weeks since I've placed order my new cat-back system has arrived from Germany. It's getting fitted on Saturday so there will be plenty of evidence both in video and picture form😎😈 also got certificate with it to say it's EU approved sport exhaust😛
  18. The image I posted is very clear. The output of the ignition transformer consists of 2 secondary coils. One between the outputs to spark plugs for cylinders 1 and 4, and the other between the outputs to spark plugs for cylinders 2 and 3. Each coil should have a resistance of 8.4 - 9.1 kOhms. The primary coils are not directly accessible to the ignition transformer connector but there is a window with a cover.Under it there are 3 prongs where you can measure the coils. The 2 coils should have 0.8 - 1 ohms each. It is not relevant. What is the issue with the fuel pump?
  19. Just removing the old wheel balancing weights might have improved things. You could have checked the static wheel balance using a bubble balancer. Static (Bubble) Balancer Versus Dynamic (Digital) Balancer
  20. When I have had the timing belt replaced, I get these parts changed as well:- 1/ Aux belt 2/ Timing Belt Tensioner (06B 109 477) 3/ Timing Belt Idler Roller (06B 109 243F) 4/ Water Pump (Over time the plastic impeller can break up, always use VW part) 5/ New engine mounting bolts (single use stretch bolts)

  22. Understand perfectly fine thanks. I don't think you understand the dashboard "range remaining" gives you *plenty* of leeway before the tank is actually empty. Far, far more than the inlet pipe.
  23. Managed to find some used Leyo paddle extensions in black from eBay, which arrived today. Only £40 - very impressed with the look and quality. Not sure I'd pay the retail of around £150, so chuffed to get them at this price!
  24. Same question as always... Can I legally get in the back of the car drunk as a skunk and have it drive me home? If not, it's not a self driving car IMHO.
  25. You could investigate a used engine - potentially more money after bad as they say...
  26. As the poster above really. You do not have to, but an annual oil change is good practive for preventative maintenance. Cheers, Guy

I would have thought that a physical deterrent such as a metal box around the catalytic converter, with the appropriate warning stickers, would have been more effective as people just seem to ignore car alarms these days and those that do try to stop a theft have been threatened with physical violence.
  28. here u go @bubib5. keep in mind 09 Electrics changed (coding) between MY16 (urs) and MY17 (mine). also keep in mind @defiant has a facelift MY20, which has newer modules and likely different coding and adaptations. good luck. adpmap-05-3Q0-959-435-E.CSV adpmap-09-5Q0-937-084-CG.CSV adpmap-6D-5Q0-959-107-L.CSV
  29. A/C should work better with both fans able to run at low speed, irrespective of coolant temperature. That was actually the first indication that the main fan's low speed on ours was busted; at a standstill in hot weather with A/C on, the main fan would cycle between off and on at full speed every few seconds, instead of the low speed working continuously.

I think the dealer is following the ridiculous VW flush recommendations when that happens.. In another thread someone had this “service” under warranty and it was including 6 or 8 flushes following some extra steps, plus the new G12Evo coolant on double price because it’s ‘ready for use’ mix.
  31. It'll be interesting to see how close it gets to that Superb in the video as it has probably the best sound I've heard from this engine with any exhaust setup be it a Golf R, S3, Cupra or Superb. But if I remember correctly some conversation here, the company said that part of it was due to the ugpraded downpipe as another Passat with the same cat-back but OEM downpipe sounded less aggressive. Hope you get the result you're after and make sure to post some before/after clips
  32. I guess it will make a too aggressive sound when you open the valve in the central resonator...but at least it won't be a vacuum cleaner noise anymore I wait to hear the new sound

Hi , no problem. I just called them and they Opened a case for me. They seem very helpful ( much better they I have found ford in the past) . Just explain your cars just out of warranty and low mileage. Also the fact this flush is only required because of a silica bag skoda fit . they called me with a offer also possibility your deal may also help towards cost .
  34. My first post here, and english is not my native. I have finally managed to install the Sinosmart reversing camera on my Octavia mk3 MY2015 (nickname: brownie). The hardest part was the cabling to the head unit, but figured out somehow. The other one was the factory release switch, where I could use a third arm for the removal. The image quality is not the greatest, as others already noted, but it works fine (not sure now for how long) as well as the dynamic trajectory. The supplied tool for the radio removal is a crap, so be careful ! Mine has stucked into the head unit and it took me at least two hours to remove it... Anyway enough of the complaints, here are some distance check at the green and the red line. The green distance is about ~1m (~3ft), the red is about .5-.6m (<2ft), which I think good enough.
  35. Yes, they are reflective and they conform to the British Standard BSAU145d. They're a lot thinner profile to the acrylic plates, and hopefully will look fresher for longer. https://www.onestopnumberplates.co.uk/product/premium-aluminium-number-plate/ for anyone else interested. From September this year, I believe all new cars will be supplied with aluminium plates in place of the default plastic ones.

It is a vehicle that means a driver will need to adhere to traffic laws and NSL's. No undertaking or sneaking about incognito. Not a vehicle for anyone having an extra marital affair or that likes a bit of dogging. Perfect to load the roof with bikes and tag on to the tail of the convoy during the Tour of Britain.
  37. Find a saddler/leather repairs online near to you, they should be able to repair the scratch. Have to say that because of the leather in mine I bought roof bars for this reason. It would annoy me intensely if I had done the same.
  38. Powerflex Dogbone bushing was delivered today, so I set about installing it. Removal of the old mount was stupid easy. Looked to have been replaced at some point not long before I got it. Looked fresh but still felt very soft and mushy. Cut out the old bush with a hacksaw, only difficulty was the hacksaw getting stuck in the rubber. Needed to sand off the white oxidised crap in the console. Got 90% of it off and the console felt smooth so I was happy to leave it there. Install of the bush itself was a bit fiddly, The photo on the listing I bought it from showed it as a 2 piece design. The bush I got was 1 piece. That said it was not hard to do with a vice, just took a little more planning. I didnt get any instructions with it and accidentally put the bush in wrong (I think). The relief in the bush looks to be for helping with installing it into the car. I had to take it out and install it 180°, relief facing the back of the car. I removed the black part of the mount when reinstalling to make it a little easier. Took a fair amount of effort to get it back in, seems that since the new bush is thicker it has a hard time going in. I did all this over the pit, didnt need to take the wheels off or even lift the car surprisingly. Actually made it easier as I could sit on the step and work away. It was a little sketchy at first as this pit is made for lorries and the like, not small hatchbacks. Had a half a tyre over the edge on either side . I decided to go for Powerflex's PFF85-620R, their softest dogbone bush. Its a 65 shore bush and felt surprisingly squidgy out of the box, I wonder if a stiffer bush would be harder to install as it wouldnt contort as easy to fit through the bush? Having done a bit of driving on it I can say that it has improved the car nicely. Its a lot easier to change gears, much more predictable. I have not noticed any increased vibration at all. The only time it is noticeable is on starting the car and turning it off. Turning it off feels similar to turning off my mk1, as I removed the ASV from it. Its a difference, but not a big one in that department. I suppose it will soften up in the next few days, hopefully not much. It feels good now, feels like what it should have come like from the factory. Feels much more consistent even under some hard gear changes. Definately worth while for the cost and time to do. The great thing about having 2 fabias is that if I want a stiffer bush in this I should be able to put a stiffer bush in the mk1s mount and swap them over, both look identical so I imagine they are the same part. Overall quite happy with this mod, I like the feedback when starting and turning off the engine and its not noticeable at all under normal driving. Its the sort of mod that I love to do, much like the RARB. Next thing up is a remap, all goes well It should be mapped by the end of the month. The place i'm going with claims 145 hp and 310 nm of torque. While I think thats a little optimistic it should make a big difference. I'll hold off on the intercooler for a short while, since the weather has cooled off again its not gotten very hot since. Looking at doing a wellycooler job to it. I have my eye on an alloy intercooler that should do the job.

I think it will be a flow valve. I had a new matrix fitted to mine at 2 years old. No change. The dealer was useless. Skoda said to change it. It ended up being a flow valve!
  40. Phone call from Skoda today. It could be the thermostat or the water pump. They said the gasket had a small nick in it, they won’t know till they take them apart! Skoda are now covering 70% of parts and 50% labour. I thought it must be common for them to cover some of the costs with no arguing esp as they did not do the last Service. The dealer has go ahead from Skoda and will have the parts for every outcome in the morning. Fingers crossed it’s fixed tomorrow.
  41. @FrankNicklin Not quite on topic but I just had my A/C serviced by a very experienced independent I found locally. It was still good and cold but needed 200grams of gas to refill to 500grams. So just because it's cold does not mean all is necessarily ok.

Awww man, that really sucks. I feel for you. They've given it a right whack' haven't they? Very sad if it is a neighbour and they've not owned up. Future tensions are the last thing you need on top of this nightmare.

  44. Not a fan of BT? I have other more sophisticated BT enabled chargers for my hobby of RC aircraft and find the information on Ah charged and history retention invaluable. Whilst I’d prefer WiFi, BT is a satisfactory alternative.
  45. Honestly mate, if I (ever) get an update and suggested resolution from No Hope Skoda (TM) and that includes an offer of a replacement MK4 and it works and I take it I'll post an 'honest review' and let everyone know. Customer service is surely as important as the car itself, when it isn't working, and I'm basically being treated like scum at the moment. I'm not a person with an issue they want to fix, I'm a problem they are trying to pretend doesn't exist. That alone should put people off.
  46. Glad to see some new contributors to the thread, and some lovely looking motors! It's been a few weeks for me as I've been stupidly busy with work, but I've done a few things to the motor this past weekend. New 18" OEM Vega alloys with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5s all round. I got a bit of a bargain on the wheels, so I'm super happy there. 4 x new tyres has made an incredible difference to all aspects of the car's performance too, which is wonderful. Anyway, this is a detailing thread! I've applied 2 layers of Gyeon G2 Rim ceramic coating to the alloys, so fingers crossed it holds up as well as the reviews suggest. It was super easy to work with; almost too easy, which makes me wonder if I was doing it wrong! haha. Once the wheels were installed, I took advantage of each corner being lifted by applying an even coat of Autoglym performance dressing gel to the tyres. The day before, I'd given the car a good clean after quite a bit of driving over the previous fortnight (bugs galore!). Process (& products); Alloy clean (Autoglym Magma - first time using it and it was quite impressive) Jet wash to loosen dirt up on the body and blast off the magma from the wheels Snow foam (AD purple velvet) 2 bucket method wash (Sonax gloss, using hog hair brushes to get into the crevices). I did this in steps, as it was so hot - contact wash, pressure wash and dry a section before going on to avoid water stains). Dry (woolly mammoth towel & a cheaper Kent towel to assist) Here it is, clean and with new shoes;
  47. I have the Thule 3 bike version with 7 pin connection. Had it for a good few years and never had any issues. Seems very sturdy, and the rear lights are bright and clearly visible. I’ve no experience of the 4 bike version, but if it’s as good as this one I have, I’d be more than happy with it. can’t help with the seat query though.
