  1. Not strictly today, but over the weekend I fitted an OEM removable towbar and a reversing camera......a good weekends work.
  2. New to me 2018 280 sport line New winter wheels planned and a few other accessories.
  3. Plumber's Gold has never let me down on sealing tasks. If the leak site was spotted via wheel arch liner, I'd think that full removal of that will give you sufficient access.
  4. Alas poor Eco Thread.... I knew you well....
  5. Chill, The thread is over 5 years old and there was tumbleweed blowing through before the revival.
  6. And this is the fault of those of us who use the site as designed, in a landscape mode, how and why?
  7. @Gax Your vehicle became the pinnacle of what VW Group / SKoda were trying to achieve which was lower emissions for the size and type of vehicle under the WLTP / RDE from petrol cars without being hybrid.. So 1.5 TSI but with ACT & DSG. ECO works rather differently in different drivetrains / fuels etc. Then there is load in car, weather, road surface and types, so location location location. If people just post without saying what their car is and what engine then people on their phone might not see that at the left hand side.
  8. There is physical protection when changing coding parameters, you will not be able to write any options with hood closed. You will get write error.
  9. But but but that will use electricity and reduce range.
  10. The limitation will be to do with the location of the battery for the hybrid system - it's under the passenger seat so the mats for that side will need to be different to suit.
  11. Perfectly relevant if those in traffic jams chose Eco.
  12. Coding Octavia NX gets complicated because of SFD protection for the majority of the modules built in the MBQ Evo platform cars. But The specific module responsible for Lane Assist (A5) is not protected and yes you can disable lane assist completely or like me configured it to remember the last setting. Which mean if you disabled it it will stay disabled. You have couple of options: Pay somebody that have the required cables and software Buy obdeleven https://obdeleven.com , but be aware that currently obd eleven doesn't have SFD integration and only options you can change are lane assist and climate options Buy VCDS https://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/ with cable, the same as above, currently there is no SFD integration (beta version is providing offline token support) and you can only change limited number of options including Lane Assist Buy obdapp https://obdappshop.de/, it is fully integrated with SFD and you can enable a lot of predefined features if you buy a flat-rate option. Use VCtool https://vctool.app/ with cheap ELM327 OBD adapter, It has SFD support (very expensive now, each token is 35€) but SFD is not needed here and If I see correctly this setting cost 0 CRD, so it is free for single activation. Available presets: https://vctool.app/available-presets/?model=Skoda Octavia A8&culture=en-US You need to: driver assistance (module A5) > long coding > Configuration for lane departure warning KI15 > change to "last setting" Don't forget to open the hood.

Your newer model is absolutely not the same animal and cannot be abused in the same way, if you do not interrupt the regens the fan will never come on when you stop, if you carry on as you are it will continue to do so every time and eventually will go into limp mode and you will have to pay the Skoda dealer to carry out a forced workshop regeneration. There is little point in telling you that your vehicle is not suited to your journey profile as its too late, you can however adapt and make the most of an imperfect situation by allowing any regens to complete, I like many others have had to do this during lockdown.
  14. Intensive cleaning of the intrior this afternon. It has been way too long I didn't do ti. Sprayed the front and back seats with Leather conditioner & cleaner from Chemical Guys. Satisfied with the result, the seats are now correctly moisturized, with a satin looking and a pleasant soft touch. Also tried these 3D Shadow bulbs on the front doors. A gift from a friend owning a Sportline. He thought a needed 4 bulbs for his Sportline, when he discovered, there were no lights on the rear doors.. May be a bit "too much" for my taste. But I would appreciate the same without the Skoda Logo...
  15. Another piece of original police equipment sourced and fitted. It's the steering column mounted PTT (push to talk) button, made by a company called Sepura. Its used in conjuction with a mic and when pushed it allows the driver to speak on the cars police radio. (the mic should also mount on the shroud where the small white square is in the picture) The original mounting holes were still in the steering column shroud and lined up perfectly with my replacement
  16. Finally picked up today… nice drive from Leeds to Leicester… then back in time to get the kids from School. Lovely car, very happy so far.
  17. Hi everyone New guy here with a Octavia Ambience 1.9 tdi; current mileage 502,000..still returning 65 mpg on a steady run. I am trying to find a replacement air con compressor as mine has died. Am I right in thinking that as long as I match up all the codes and the model number (1233) it will be compatible even if it is off a petrol engine? 🤔 Many thanks in advance..
  18. First rule of mapping: don't chase the peak figure. A map that gets you a high top end may stress the engine more than one with 5-10hp less. You hardly ever take the engine to that peak revs so it's a wasted effort. By all means if the higher map offers other features that you like then go for it. Especially the likes of APR and Revo. They are well known. The curve shape is the most important bit. You are looking for a gently increasing smooth line for hp and a similar smooth line for torque. Obviously you won't be able to spot those things on yours until after the map but the company should be able to offer you an example plot. Where the lines cross before and after is also a good indication of how the new map is improved. Hard to compare between companies as the scale could be different on the axis but a before and after comparison should indicate a good gain.
  19. Its funny seeing you on here and on 4chan. Small world.
  20. I cleaned mine up but they went yellow again so after cleaning them up the 2nd time i got some clear headlamp uv protection film.
  21. If it's a pinhole that's accessible I'd be tempted to just patch it up with a blob of epoxy
  22. Anything is possible, they're both VAG group cars after all, you should probably get a price for the wheel first and make sure you're sitting down.

I've done some more investigations today. There is a tutorial for voice control, which goes into some detail. Voice control works for navigation, telephone, music track selection and temperature. When I asked for Morrisons Scarborough, it listed points of interest (POI) with lots of 'Morrisons', so I could pick the one I wanted. If I was more specific, eg Morrisons Seamer Road, it then selected that one. Aircon is straightforward: I said 'driver's temperature 17 degrees', I was asked to wait, then it reduced the setting to the requested temperature. I haven't tried the telephone as my wife's Android 'phone wasn't with me, but it connects by Bluetooth and all her numbers are stored, so I assume it works. The radio also accepts voice commands, so I asked for internet radio. It searched for a while, but I had to stop it, so I don't know whether it needs an Android 'phone to connect. I hope this helps and I'll let you know if I find out anything else. I haven't tried 'Hey Laura' yet, so i'll find out whether 'she' is more helpful.
  24. I'm guessing you might need new flexi hoses depending on length and end-type. Probably worth getting new carrier bolts too.

Update from me, I'm picking my car up tomorrow afternoon. Excited. Ordered week 2, built week 23 ,shipped to UK week 28, transported to dealer week 29, ready to collect from dealer week 30 Octavia VRS TSi 2.0 VRS DSG Meteor Grey
  26. Okay, i ordered a new control unit and a new flap motor. First i will swap the control unit and see if the flap motor starts working, if not I will replace that! After that i will lubricate the fan and try to stick everything back together! Thanks for your help
  27. It's the connector between bumper and fluid bottle. Did you recently do a bumper off job?

Non-XL 205/40R17 tyres have a load index of only 80 (450kg), which isn't enough for the Fabia MK2. Hence it was fitted with XL 205/40R17 tyres which have a load index of 84 (500kg). Not only that, but non-XL tyres in size 205/40R17 are extremely rare. Most of the big brands don't even make non-XL tyres in the 205/40R17 size. 29. I seem to remember this coming up before (for some or other Skoda model) and it turned out there were options in some menu of the radio system that just needed re-setting to what they were pre-battery change. Choices of when the radio was powered on and off. If I can remember what model/forum it was and some suitable search term, I'll link you to the thread.
  30. Come on guys this is starting to feel like a Pistonheads thread !

@Roberto280 yes don’t get me wrong I usually only get around 32mpg these days as that was set when there was a long section of 50mph limit with average cameras so now thats gone I’m doing 75 on the clock mostly (maniac I know before the holier than thou brigade appear ) so that’s obviously using a bit more fuel but most of my economy on that journey comes from the 12 minutes i takes to get to the motorway junction and I can easily get 30mpg by then in any of the modes if I’m careful with the loud pedal anyway so once up to speed eco isn’t really going to work then anyway
  32. There is another mat that you might like to get to go with these. It covers the tunnel between the footwells of the rear seats.
  33. That sounds believable; just another reason for not fitting seat covers to cars with side bags.
  34. Hi, so this is an information post. My radiator fans were not spinning when I switch the air conditioning on (2010 superb 2.0 tdi dsg with climatronic) the car is not overheating either. The air conditioning worked great, nice and cold when driving. I had the a/c refrigerant level and pressure checked and were fine. I replaced the radiator as it was faulty, but the new radiator was still not spinning. I have also checked the fuses in the cabin and in the engine compartment e-box (blade fuses and strip fuses) and they all seem good. So I replaced the a/c pressure switch situated at he front of the a engine bay on the left (circled). You will need a 17mm crow foot spanner (pictured) attached to a long extention to get the old pressure switch off and the a/c system won't need degassed as it's on a schrader valve. Fans spin now and a/c works perfectly👍👍👍 VID_20210726_175436.mp4
  35. Only since MY21 as far as I know. Regarding VC, I haven't got one to test, but some people report it does work and others say it doesn't!
  36. Yes I agree that the ID.4 is a (slightly) better looking car, but the Enyaq would be improved no end by a re-style of the pointless grille. Horses for courses though, many people prefer the more traditional styling of the Enyaq. Agree with Roottoot that 99mph is more than fast enough. EVs are affected by wind resistance and therefore speed, just as ICE cars are. The difference is in an ICE car you just don't notice it as much, as the 500 mile range at 60mph reduces to 425 or so at 70. I had an old Isuzu Trooper where you really noticed the difference - 33mpg at 60, 24mpg at 70! In my ID.4 driving 60 roads will give close to 300 mile range whilst a motorway run would reduce that to 250-ish at 70. The only thing that will improve highspeed efficiency will be a very aerodynamic body shape. It's no coincidence that Tesla are best for range and are all a similar shape - they have relatively good drag coefficients.
  37. Hi topped up coolant reservoir slightly . Never noticed any more leaks , levels have all been fine since Cheers Steve
  38. @gcasey Whatever happens at the garage I'd recommend you recharge the battery or if you prefer change it but that will (may?) require a recoding of the new battery. To recharge the battery well you need a long slow and low recharge which may be beyond some of these big brash fast modern chargers, ideally you'd take the battery out of the car, and charge it somewhere cool during this hot weather. Fully charging it could take a day or two depending on your charger, you certainly could go faster but often faster in is faster out as it doesn't go deep enough. I don't know on a Superb but much to my surprise on my wife's 2015 Fabia only the date and time needed resetting after having the battery out the car for nearly a day (I must admit I panicked and went against my own advice and fitted a new battery anyway, I've more than enough loathing farting about with my own car to fart about with a second). Others might know better but dirty fuel didn't sound right as a reason for the sudden braking to me or crank sensor, much more likely ABS sensor as @thamestrader put. Too late now but if your garage doesn't have the VAG system to code everything up you'd be best to get it done by someone with the coding. There is a map of VCDS owners who may, or may not, wish to help, obviously I can't speak for other but I was helped by one local to me. - VCDS owners map - https://tinyurl.com/yn6mmtyk HTH.
  39. Well, I've owned mine since before there even was a mk2.
  40. The pleasure and pain of brilliant silver; doesn't show the dirt, but doesn't look much different after two hours of washing it!
  41. I was about to suggest comparing numbers to make this worthwhile, but see @MASKO has beaten me to that. I can chip in then by saying I use ECO mode on every single trip since getting the car a few weeks ago. Same thing as well, as soon as the MODE button lights up I switch to ECO. I live in the countryside in a hilly area (the Pennines) so it is literally impossible to go anywhere without climbing/descending and vice versa, several hundred feet within moments of setting off, and on return, so I should be burning through petrol (and brakes sadly). I can report via mySkoda the following (on my 1.5 DSG): (Total) Distance: 1509 Average speed: 30mph (which does surprise me!) MPG: 47.0 There are two decent motorway journeys in there (one of 170 miles, one of 260) and around town pottering for shopping etc (hence the 30mph average I guess). I can't claim to know for sure, but logic would suggest that a car of this size/weight and the predominantly mountainous driving I do, ECO mode can surely only be giving me fuel savings in comparison to the other modes available.
  42. I wouldn't have thought that anybody with 280bhp would have any interest in eco mode driving. I'm at the other end of the scale as I use eco mode virtually all the time and switch to it within 25 yards of setting off each day. In the 18 months I've had this car I've only briefly tried sport mode (on only 3 occasions) and only use normal mode when I forget to change to eco! As you would expect I get very good mpg. For the last 3,000 miles with mixed driving I'm averaging 46.8mpg. On long journeys I get as much as 55mpg though low 50's is more normal. Rarely go over 65mph and often use ACC but couldn't tell you whether it would be more economical to not use it.
  43. Sorry no idea about electric cars. Is it just fuel consumption you are not happy with the Superb ? How long have you owned it ?
  44. Downlad link you both have on PM. To get Android Auto you must have both display and glove box unit exchanged. If you are interested pls contact me on PM.
  45. Yesterday, I washed the car for the first time in two months. Today, it takes me about 10 minutes to stand up straight. Yesterday, I filled it with petrol. It was 10 months since my last visit to a petrol pump. It was the most expensive tank ever: £93.61 for 62.87 litres of premium unleaded. 28.7 mpg on my last tankful. I blame evaporation and city driving. Yesterday, I drove to Dungeness with four in the car. Two hours each way. Today, it takes me about 10 minutes to stand up straight. We had the beach to ourselves and the fish'n'chips was excellent. Car ran great. 4.5 year old battery fired right up.
  46. I read and comment having in my mind that, Yoss can make the correction. You are not some kind of ''God" which has the right to judge anyone, you are just a common mortal guy. As for your suggestion a have an answer "Go and fetch me a banana" and now we have a draw.
  47. Well after 2 years we finally won our case through the motoring ombudsman against my Skoda dealer.Originally I had a strange rattle on startup .l took the car into the garage twice worried it was the cam chain tensioner.l was told they were not concerned only for the tensioner to fail a month later .l had to pay.for a new engine but paid under protest.l the took the garage on through the motoring ombudsman giving them as much evidence as l could with reference to me telling the garage what l thought the problem was and loads of articles, utube videos and VW technicle bullitens. After two years the Ombudsman have found in my favour and the garage reluctantly have had to refund me for the cost of the new engine. It was a long slog but l got there eventually.

My Skoda Fabia registered at the end of August 2016 (model year 2017) was delivered to the dealer straight off the assembly line. Earlier in this thread, I have described my experiences when the fuel leaked and the subsequent experience at the authorized dealer. I received a copy of information about the manufacturer's work to resolve the problem. The problem affects 1.2 TSI and 1.4 TSI engines (CZE*, CZD*, CHP*, CJZ*, CYV*) New equipment was implemented in the producion process to automatically tighten the rail bolts in week 25 of 2018. Sold vehicles with the problem need to have the rail, injection gaskets and all rail mounting bolts replaced. The rail mounting bolts should be tightened to a torque of 10 Nm.
