A bad attempt at spelling Briskoda?
  2. Anyone else need a beer? there is no planet b We’ll find a way. Although we may still be disagreeing about it long after my beer is done. We’re getting into a bit of tit for tat vs something interesting to read. Hopefully by time I’ve finished my second beer… we’ll of turned a corner… 🍻
  3. Seriously? With rising poverty in the country, real world wage erosion, record numbers reliant on food banks, people working full time reliant on food banks and benefits you question how people do not have savings?? Many people who did have savings have spent their 'minimum safety net' a long time ago. Those of us able to save and pay our way are in a position many, many hard working people are not. Definitely out of touch.
  4. The tyres got a good few miles today to get the newness off them and then a good try out tonight in torrential rain in Aberdeen on roundabouts and then up the A90 on roads that were flooding. They are good, and plenty rim protection, no really affect on the efficiency / range. Aberdeen Council rapids as pathetic as usual. The one at the Dry Ski Slope out of service and another single one i tried in a car park. Had to use a PodPoint 7 kW until i got on the Rapid then later an InstaVolt and a Bannantyne Health Club & Spa. Thank goodness for the reliable but expensive chargers.
  5. Well just maybe next year more people will use their right to vote, hopefully there will less apathy around then, let's wait and see, keep your fingers crossed on that front. Sometimes I feel that we need to be more like the French and revolt at times and say to the authorities enough is enough and make sure that they get the message loud and clear.
  6. Just a quick comment on this - yes some people are MASSIVELY out of touch with how a large number of people in this country live and survive from day to day and have very little in the way of a safety net or savings! Just look at numbers of people in the various bands in IMD mapping. Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) | CDRC Data The English Indices of Deprivation 2019 (publishing.service.gov.uk) Also - Octopus Salary Sacrifice... a Tesla Model 3 is FROM £691 PER MONTH with an upfront payment of £6.2k on a personal plan. and from £632 for business users. That equates to £7.5k to £8.3k per year just for a car. Even their cheapest deal is from £331 a month for an Ora Funky Cat with an upfront payment of £3k. Those numbers are simply not affordable for many many people!
  7. That`s been a week with the new Bilstein B6 non DCC dampers. Using original springs. Everything that others have said is accurate. Much more stable through corners, huge improvement in dampening, not hitting bump stops. Road imperfections, potholes etc feel much less crashy than standard. Money well spent.
  8. Common misunderstanding that it is against the purchase of another car. No it is just to scrap the old polluting car. Spend the money on another car or on public transport, on Ubers (which it aims to be zero emission in 16 months time. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/jun/08/uber-aims-for-greener-trips-and-to-expand-london-electric-vehicle-fleet Generous offer in my view and plenty of options for this bung of tax payers money.
  9. You are out of touch! Happy to oblige.
  10. @Breezy_Pete Thank you very much for all of your help I have got my sons car back on the road
  11. Rather than Sales price myself, like probably hundreds of thousands of UK employees, are looking at the monthly payments through a salary sacrifice scheme. We are suppose to be engaging with the Octopus salary sacrifice scheme, who can apparently put through second hand cars through the scheme now which is much under reported as a major change, chance of getting a really tidy Model S, 100 battery or maybe a 90, would be my ideal ride, low mileage although insane mileage ones, 100k, 150k, still seem to be like almost new. How can any humdrum car company like VW, BMW, Mercedes compete with a company that makes space rockets that re-land back to earth. And in all this most humans are not aware that the TESLA car company is just the magicians distraction to TESLA coming in and taking over electricity supply to both houses and cars.
  12. A trait of the EVs being launch each year, nd comparing their price and range comparatively year after year, and especially TESLA who drive the price and make what is destined to be the world's best selling model of a car ie the Model Y, appears to be getting incrementally better by several percent each year ie cheaper but better range performance. The TESLA model 3, launched 5 years ago now, was a benchmark and cost to consumers in some markets now dropped below £25k, when government (US etc) subsidies applied. New "Highland" model is projected to be even cheaper in real terms as it benefits from cheaper battery pack that have higher energy density plus over 20 other major technical features. Hopefully price of model 3 will now fall below £40K, current cheapest new one is...... £40.5K https://www.tesla.com/en_GB/m3/order/LRW3228_f2b9e0c0f820c726a3da366f161b6647?titleStatus=new&redirect=no#overview TESLA state and show working how running an EV like the model 3 costs hundred of pounds less per month, certainly something I am seeing myself in both fuelling and servicing costs. Days, in more accurately a few years, left for ICE cars as mainstream transport on our roads, some will survive as relics for auto shows but in terms on mile per mile cost, a contest being lost by ICE cars hand over fist to EVS it is becoming clear. e
  13. For anyone reading this who buys one a manual from easy-manuals: I got a discount code when I purchased it. Not sure if it expires but its 10% - if useful to anyone! JO4DTJ
  14. 6.5Jx16 ET46 5/112 57.1 is the standard 16" rim size on the Octavia MK3, and is normally used with a 205/55R16 tyre size. You can see the Velorum listed here. https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/alu-kola/c/alloyWheels?q=%3ApriceAsc%3AcarType%3AOctavia%2BIII%2B%282017%2B%29%3ArimDiameter%3A16%22&text=#
  15. Even after 20years I still find new ways to type it wrong. brisk skoda - a skoda driven briskly. in hind sight skoda forums would of been easier, but way less brisky
  16. You asked what game they could play to encourage sales of new EVs to existing EV owners... I gave you an example
  17. Just as an example EV manufacturers with over the air updates could easily do an 'Apple' and restric power an battery performance. Just saying....
  18. Hi guys! Thanks for the prompt replies. My nephew managed to refit the sensor from a missing? plate underneath. There looks to be 2 plates underneath and he managed to refit the damn thing. BUT the onboard display still shows a fault. I assume I will have to reset using VCDS or disconnect battery for a while. I have a quick disconnector fitted?
  19. Hi, that's right - the unit in the glove box. It can be a bit fiddly due to access but you'll do it. Glad this guide is still useful after all this time!
  20. I believe it's around 2% https://axleaddict.com/auto-repair/Variable-Displacement-Compressors
  21. When I bought my previous estate it smelt awful inside due the previous owner using it to carry dogs in the back and especially the boot. I fixed it over a couple of days by spraying the seats and carpets with Febreze textile spray. No more smell.
  22. I'm all for this and I think that climate friendly/green movement is actually the opportunity to move towards more equality. For example, third world country are leap frogging developed country and directly going to renewables, empowering people without needing a continuous payment. Another example, micro-mobility are much cheaper to buy and own, but able to achieve most tasks. As always, whether people grasp this opportunity..... But as usual, there's always those who resist changes and get left behind. Back in the real world and back on topic, to drive change, there's only the carrot or the stick. Unfortunately the stick most affects those who are not well off, this problem is entirely manufactured by the ICE car industry: "buy our latest car for less emissions". EV have the ability to break that cycle, the longer an EV is kept in use, the less per-mile carbon emissions. Other types of emissions (tyre, brake) can be fixed by changing individual components. The price of EV is due to poor supply of cheap second hand cars as supply, another fault of auto industry not investing in EV's in 2000's and not offering enough EV's back in mid 2010's. The existing centralised energy industry were doing their best to keep the inequality status quo. Renewables, battery and by extension EV's could change that.
  23. U can read about that here.
  24. My point entirely, people who are in a privileged position just don't get how lucky they are and certainly cannot think outside their box, which is one of the reason why I think that EV cars may not be the magic bullet that some people seem to think they are and also the same with all the low emission zones being setup across the country, some people may actually end up paying multiple charges. Having already stated that the EV situation is unlikely to affect me in my lifetime and secondly, my car already complies with most of LEZ's so once does not really affect me. But having been in a lower income bracket all my life, never been away for a holiday in the UK let alone flown or cruised for a holiday, simply because I could not afford to. I have never been a drinker, a gambler or a smoker, so no money has been wasted on those. I also was never able to get onto the property ladder, so I have been a social housing tenant all of my life so far. My Father died many years ago and had been a labourer all his life so had zero savings and no life insurance, so I became the only bread winner in the family, so I had to support myself and my Mother. I can see just how hard if not impossible it could be loads of families. My storey is far from unique, and yet we have leaders of the country who are billionaires and some are millionaires and have zero idea of what it is like for people in similar positions. They like many here on this forum lack the ability to see outside their circle/box If we could level the field a bit more, then we could embrace the forth coming changes more equally a society, rather than as winners and losers., @Luckypants I applaud for having the ability to understand that many will be far worse off.
  25. All the details are here. Nowhere mentions needing to have secured purchase/buying of car. https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/scrappage-schemes On top of scrappage scheme, there are companies offering other transport related discounts: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/ulez-support-offers Interesting ones are micro-mobility such as Lime scooter rental. Cars just doesn't work in cities. For those living outside, if they really cannot use public transport (eg. need huge wheelchair), there is a grace period for wheelchair vehicles and a few others. https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/discounts-and-exemptions#on-this-page-0 We really need to re-think mobility and embrace idea of fitting vehicle with use-case:
  26. The lights in the headlights will have been flashing blue lights, probably LED's. Yeah, like he would admit it! How many previous owners, if only the one then its stretching credibility that he didn't know but it's easy to ignore things if ignorance is profitable. Does the indicated mileage seem commensurate with the vehicle condition? I think you should so some checks starting with the MOT history. Cop cars have a hard life especially the high powered variants used as pursuit vehicles, I bet its had a lot more than the one bash in its time. Check under the rear seat for any drugs or weapons stashed!! 😄
  27. That subframe and suspension in the photo looks like it has spent its 13 years at the bottom of a canal! Thats about the condition of any second hand parts available on E-bay etc in my country and priced at more than you could buy a good vehicle for!
  28. Easier said than done I'm afraid, sometimes those are the only jobs that are available when employers want people with previous experience or there are simply heaps of graduates who are unable to find jobs in their chosen profession, actually stacking shelves in supermarkets. Sometimes, people, however well-intentioned, particularly those in positions of power, just need to stop and think things through, and maybe better still people in those positions need to have experienced what it is like for those people who are struggling. Talking is cheap and easy to do, but actions are not.
  29. So just to close this one in case anyone finds it whilst searching for similar symptoms...... Issue was with the selector, the outer cable had become detatched form the housing. Pretty easy to sway over and feels perfect now.
  30. Hey @Grimlock, Nothing feels quite logical here. But the button was there from the beginning. Before it didn't do anything when I pressed it. But now that I have adaptive lane assist, I can activate it by pressing the button directly. Instead of going into the menu. And the yellow marks shows. The Adaptive is probably an earlier version of Travel, because I can say that once it's activated (after 58 km/h), the car drives excellently on its own. It follows the road perfectly! Great advice, I'll look into it as soon as I get hold of an OBDEleven (borrowing from my friend). Here is a video and picture, hope it shows. 22E2BA00-34F4-434B-919A-DD2ECE3936CC.MOV
  31. ACC is adaptive cruise control, the driving mode will change how aggressively the car accelerates to keep the distance you've set. It has nothing to do with DCC (dynamic chassis control).
  32. The first mobile I designed was an analogue TACS phone, which predates any of the digital GSM/CDMA ones.
  33. If you want red callipers I had to buy ones labelled as Audi S1 quattro - otherwise I just ended up with grey ones. ie https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304303620320 Oh and get a pair, cheaper than buying one, then a few months later buying another 🙄
  34. I never referred to Tesla inventory model because it's like looking for cars on the dealership lot, there ought to be comparable but varied and difficult to compare discount. By 2025 when EV's will be subject to VED and expensive car tax, it is a sure bet that Model 3 will drop below £40k. It is highly probable it'll be £38.8k so you can buy with a colour/wheel/interior of your choice. On Tesla, everything else come as standard, same on every trim: Heated everything, pano roof, elec boot, ACC and lane centering, etc. Don't need to add cost for options list. Is £40k expensive for a brand new car? Government have been exercising fiscal drag, £40k in 2017 is £50k in July 2023 according to BoE. £31.6k in 2017 is £40k these days. I remember looking at 3 series in 2016, IIRC starting from ~£30k. (decided on a second hand Octy to tide me over to full EV) Nowadays, 3 series start from £39.6k before extensive options list, smaller Golf GTI (far from highest trim) start £39k before options, and larger Superb sportline (still not highest trim) start just under £39k. £40k cars these days are actually £30k cars 6 years ago, Everything has gotten more expensive...... except for Tesla's

i have a hatch/liftback/sedan/limo Superb myself and use roof racks occasionally (during school holidays). i don't have pics of the actual mounting kit, but yes, those holes u indicated, 2x per door frame, is where the mounting kit hooks into, which the roof racks are attached too. i'm using Pro-rack roof bars, with 3x bike racks fitted on to it. easy to fit & use, and just as easy to remove. my only complaint is that i wish i got the aero version of the roof bars as these ones r noisy at speeds.
  36. Finally got the filler hole rust welded and sealed. What a pain that was. Also managed to find an anti roll bar from a pickup😁 well happy with that
  37. I had this problem you describe, my wipers started coming on even though they were in off position. I followed the advice in this video and its now fixed, My car is the same age as yours so likely age related. To fix is easier than you think the video is very detailed and easy to follow. IMPORTANT - make sure disconnect from battery and only reconnect when all back together otherwise airbag warning light will be activated. I'd advise marking position of steering wheel before removing too with a marker pen to be doubly sure you get it in line when fixing it back on.

As you can see in the chart below, there might only be 5mm difference in the inflated tyre width between a 205/55R16 and 225/45R17. The "205" and "225" marked on the sidewall is just the nomimal width of the tyre. The actual width of the inflated tyre always depends on the rim width to which it is fitted. Notice that if 205/55R16 and 225/45R17 are both fitted to a 7J rim, the 205 tyre is actually wider than the 225 tyre. Actual width of inflated tyre 205/55R16 fitted to 6.5J rim 214mm 205/55R16 fitted to 7J rim 220mm 225/45R17 fitted to 7J rim 219mm 225/45R17 fitted to 7.5J rim 225mm
  39. It has to be updated to a higher version of the firmware first, then it can go up again, although it may have to have a hardware upgrade as well before that can happen.
  40. Enjoy looking at modding old EV's? It's guys like this that's making it possible. Old Leaf battery? No problem, he's using Leaf battery as home battery with some very simple wiring: Before you say fire risk, the BMS are in the packs, BMS controls everything to do with pack safety. He's only sending Chademo or translate CAN bus commands to achieve his goal.
  41. EMD and EWT codes were used before GGU on same engine, to widen search scope a little, maybe.
  42. The Octavia MK2 has independent rear suspension, not a beam axle. Can you take a photo of the part that is broken? Perhaps the upper wishbone (13), lower wishbone (7), or the axle guide (2). Broken rear springs are very common. When you say the wheel suddenly went inwards, do you mean that it looked like the rear spring was suddenly fully compressed? If so, this is most likely a broken spring. If you don't have a factory fitted towbar, then gknautomotive thinks you have rear springs with OEM part number 1K0511115BF. These springs have 1 white dot, and 3 yellow dots. https://www.lllparts.co.uk/catalogs/skoda/CZ/OCT/419/5/505/505005
  43. No, yyou cannot, as you have Bolero MIB1 unit which has NO OEM navigation built-in
  44. On google maps, the factory shows up as Federal Mogul Friction Products Ltd, Chapel-en-le-Frith. So it appears that the name Federal Mogul is still in use, but under the Apollo umbrella. Federal Mogul Friction Products Ltd, Chapel-en-le-Frith https://www.google.com/maps/place/Federal+Mogul+Friction+Products+Ltd/@53.3296813,-1.9171536,17z/data=!4m14!1m7!3m6!1s0x487a339f98c18597:0x4086989223a247d2!2sFederal+Mogul+Friction+Products+Ltd!8m2!3d53.3296813!4d-1.9145787!16s%2Fg%2F1v3kmlq2!3m5!1s0x487a339f98c18597:0x4086989223a247d2!8m2!3d53.3296813!4d-1.9145787!16s%2Fg%2F1v3kmlq2?entry=ttu You can see on the Companies House website, that Ferodo Limited changed its name to Federal-Mogul Friction Products Limited in 1998. There's another company shown on the Companies House website that was called G. B. Tools & Components Exports Limited when it changed its name to Ferodo Limited in 2008. It's shown as a non-trading company, so presumably this is being used to prevent anyone else calling themselves Ferodo.
  45. TPS sell for the Volkswagen Group (VWG), on an agency basis, so if they will sell to you, you can compare the genuine parts with others they supply. Remember that VWG also have an 'economy' range which are genuine parts...

  47. A visual clue that it's the right one is how close the wheel bolt holes are to the rim of the hub. Compare the pic above from the asm listing with this one below of a suffix -AC (256mm version) wheel bearing housing/hub:
  48. Thats a heart warming story, thanks once again to the selfless Pete for helping others 👍 ECP have to be the worst offenders, I dont think they have even once tried to sell me the right parts, thankfully after the first painfull experience, also a wrong fuel filter that caused me no end of problems, I would always take the old part with me and even then had to argue against ignorance. There is a lot I miss no longer being able to visit England and source stuff TPS being at the top of the list, ECP are not missed at all.
  49. The catch has probably been snapped, you'll need need to use a zip tie or a small self tapper to hold the plug on firmly.
