  1. Saw a small gathering of Ford enthusiasts up at Beachy Head. I was drawn to the Mk1 Fiesta, but then had to admire the time and effort that went into the '71 Mk1 Escort, which was running an ST170 engine on TB's: Chap said it was around the 280bhp mark - it was very, very clean 😎 Gaz
  2. The bearing got pounded hard it seems. Lack of lubrication would be the main suspect, but the gearbox was not low on oil... could be just bad luck or the car sat at side incline (this did happen) before being driven. More teardown will happen, and I will post final verdict.
  3. That'd be Methane, would'n it, Lol.
  4. The MAF sensor should show a reduction in the flow of fresh air in proportion to how much EGR recirculation is commanded. If EGR is very blocked, like yours, then the expected change in MAF reading will not happen.
  5. Had a nice meander around the Bluebell walk in Arlington today. It still might be a bit early - another week and it'll be in full bloom I reckon: And this friendly little Robin hopped up right next to me on the back of a seat I was on: Gaz
  6. Some cars that were over £40K are now under £40k to avoid the expensive car supplement of £400 extra per year !! Good range Scenic, 370 miles WLTP, going to be about £37k down from £41k RRP and the mid spec Alpine spec down to just under £38k, think that one was up around £43k. Tope spec Iconic stil over £40k though so will get clouted with expensive car VED unless government moves that £40k up with inflation or to capture more sales, VAT etc. One pedal driving and other features being added and all for less money. https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/renault/366505/refreshed-renault-megane-and-scenic-get-one-pedal-driving-and-price-cut

Hello, I m a french man, sorry for my english !, and i have the same issue with my wife's car ! The model is a fabia MK3 , 05/2017 (purchase new), with 170000km. this weekend, the problem appear, like many of you, with smell and petrol leak : I took it apart to access the injection and found the same problems: 1 broken bolt , at the end of the common rail, 1 bolt unscrewed and 1 broken seal... It is strange because i have a leon 1.4 tsi 140, year : 2013, and after 11 years and 250000 km, there is no problem with the common rail (no broken or unscrewed bolt !)... I think it's due to a problem with the tightening of the common rail, done at the factory, right?
  8. Subaru XV? Bit more clearance than your average car and they generally don't use low profile tyres which smooths out the ride a bit. Will be a bit gutless compaired to a GTI. My MiL has a bad back and loves the ride quailty in my Scoob.
  9. Could the belief about CO2 and climate debate be moved to an appropriate thread and keep this to the "Truth" about Electric cars?
  10. Chinese battery giant have battery which produces charging times to "fill up" similar to filling a Hydrocarbon fuel tank..
  11. @EnterName Very likely i never read what you went through with me, or ignored it as like much you write it will have been guff. ? What thread was that in and when? If i go quiet on a subject or something you post it will be because i can not be bothered with a nut job. Co2 is not an issue for those with their head up their own arse. .............. We might look see and worry about the same things as in the past as predictions seem to have been correct. Your 'We' that are seemingly not bothered by anything are special cases. Trumpian types.
  12. The turbo actuator has issues on both TSI and TSI engines. Its usually caused by the actuator mechanism sticking. This sticking is caused by lack of use. One thing that VAG engines do not like is being driven gently. Drive it like its stolen....or at least lots of progressive acceleration. Make sure you can manually open/close the actuator that it is at least moving correctly. Officially, fill up the car with some super diesel and run several tanks of that through the car. Its not an DPF problem (unless the car has not been allowed to regen); but I would recommend the super diesel to help clean out the EGR and DPF. You've got the drive the car hard (make sure fluids are all topped off and tyres are good before going for it). You want that turbo actuator to work, lots of opening/closing and spooling of the turbo. My solution is unauthodox, but it works for me. I tend to buy normal diesel and put in some https://www.hydra-int.com/DPB000K.html DPB100 in with each tank - which helps the burn process and helps keep DPF, EGR and injectors clean. Others would say its not necessary, but I've owned several TDI's and they have all responded well to this solution.
  13. @Dushkyto by your car year, real roller knobs and Type-C socket i can say it's Amundsen Mib3

  15. Due to high number of requests let me make some short summary of units that can be installed in Octavia III cars. I have focused only on MIB2 / MIB2.5 units, to indicate differences between them. Simplified Bolero MY15 unit 5Q0035819 (without DAB) or 5Q0035820 (with DAB) Simplified Bolero MY16 unit 5Q0035819A (without DAB) or 5Q0035820A (with DAB) Simplified Bolero MY17 unit 5Q0035819B (without DAB) or 5Q0035820B (with DAB) Simplified Bolero MY18 unit 5Q0035819C (without DAB) or 5Q0035820C (with DAB) Bolero MY15 unit 5Q0035840 (without DAB) or 5Q0035842 (with DAB) Bolero MY16 unit 5Q0035840A (without DAB) or 5Q0035842A (with DAB) Bolero MY17 unit 5Q0035840B (without DAB) or 5Q0035842B (with DAB) Bolero MY18 unit 5Q0035840C (without DAB) or 5Q0035842C (with DAB) Bolero MY19 unit 565035840 (without DAB) or 565035842 (with DAB) Amundsen MY16 unit 5Q0035864A (without DAB) or 5Q0035874A (with DAB) Amundsen MY17 unit 5Q0035864B (without DAB) or 5Q0035874B (with DAB) Amundsen MY18 unit 5Q0035864C (without DAB) or 5Q0035874C (with DAB) Amundsen MY19 unit 565035864 (without DAB) or 565035874 (with DAB) Columbus MIB2 unit 3V0035020x (with DAB, with regular Bluetooth, without LTE Modem) Columbus MIB2 unit 3V0035021x (with DAB, with premium Bluetooth, with LTE Modem) Columbus MIB2 unit 3V0035043x (without DAB, with regular Bluetooth, without LTE Modem) Columbus MIB2 unit 3V0035044x (without DAB, with premium Bluetooth, with LTE Modem) Columbus MIB2.5 unit 565035020x (with DAB, with regular Bluetooth, without LTE Modem) Columbus MIB2.5 unit 565035021x (with DAB, with premium Bluetooth, with LTE Modem) Columbus MIB2.5 unit 565035043x (without DAB, with regular Bluetooth, without LTE Modem) Columbus MIB2.5 unit 565035044x (without DAB, with premium Bluetooth, with LTE Modem) All MIB2 units (as well as Columbus MIB1 which is not listed here) work with 800x480 pixels screens, either 6.5 or 8 inch. MY15 unit support MirrorLink only (no support for SmartLink). SImplified Bolero units do not support rear view camera and voice command. Simplified Bolero, Bolero and Amundsen MY15 and MY16 have old style (rotating, monochrome) menu, with only 1 skin having 5 memory buttons in radio and phone menu. It may also support Media Command (depending on FEC. SWaP codes installed). Columbus units have built-in DVD drive and HDD for maps and audio / video files. Only Columbus units can play video files from USB/CD/DVD/SD. Every MIB2 Columbus unit can be reworked into MIB2.5 unit if required. MIB2.5 Columbus requires new 9.2" screen 5E0919606D. Every Columbus unit can drive directly subwoofer and central speaker (although this setup is not officially supported by Skoda). "x" at the end of Columbus units model number is letter A/B/C/D. Can also be missing. It makes no difference, just indicates original SW release family. Every of listed above units can be reworked into Plug&Play version (no need to visit SKODA dealer).
  16. You've certainly been unlucky in suffering so many problems and many of the teething issues that beset a number of early Mk4 builds. I think your dislike of "fiddly touch screen" and "lane hinderance system" are probably more subjective opinion rather than actual faults. Also, if you covered 58k before the AC stopped blowing cold you did quite well, assuming it hadn't been re-gassed in that time. My MY23 has been one of the best cars I've owned. All the earlier issues had been ironed out by then. I too would would buy another Skoda in a heart beat.
  17. Those images will be after the clutch failed, it would not be possible to assess its condition prior to failure.
  18. Just completed the above on my MK2 FL Elegnace and wanted to add what I'd learnt. Early FL Elegances came with electric folding as standard but this appears to have changed in around 2010. This means that my MY12 was missing them... It did however have puddle lighting and therefore the correct door modules to support folding mirrors: Address 42: Door Elect, Driver - Part No SW: 1T0 959 701 AA Address 52: Door Elect, Pass. - Part No SW: 1T0 959 702 S If your FL Octavia has the above modules all you need is wing mirrors (with electric motors) and a mirror switch with the folding position. A passenger side mirror came up on eBay with a memory module for reverse dip. Fitting was easy enough: - Remove door card (maybe four screws?) - Remove trim behind the mirror - Disconnect mirror loom and undo one screw to release the mirror from the door - Fit new mirror! - Recode the door module for folding mirrors (if reverse dip is also being fitted, the BCM also needs coding) - Check it works (VCDS output test) - Reassemble the door Sourcing a drivers side mirror was proving much harder and the dealer price is ~£240. Fortunately, Eddie-NL came to the rescue as he had a spare LHD passenger mirror (with motor) which is the same side as a RHD drivers mirror that I needed. This presented it's own problems as the angles are different to accommodate the differing drivers positions in RHD or LHD cars. Stripping both mirrors down and removing the circlips showed a simple solution. The base which attach the mirror to the car set the angle so by swapping the LHD base with the RHD base from my car all was good. I've attached a couple of pictures to show the differences between passenger/drivers bases and motorised/manual folding mechanisms. Just as a word of warning, removing the circlips can be quite a task, even more so on the manual version as the spring fitted is much stronger. With the help of a vice and patience it is possible to get them out and back in again. Fitting the drivers side was pretty much the same as the passengers side with a couple of extra screws. To get it working from the remote I needed to redo the min/max limits for all windows and fold/unfold the mirrors a couple of times with the engine running. The final issue was that the puddle lights did not illuminate when the mirrors were folded (worked normally when unfolded).Turns out this is part of the door mirror EEPROM and can be changed via ODIS-e or VCP (not VCDS). It's a ten minute job to reprogram the two door modules and now I have puddle lights regardless of mirror position. I have no idea what the stock behaviour is so if anyone with factory fitted electric folding mirrors with puddle lights can let me know the stock behaviour that would be great! Bases: Mirror castings:
  19. I've seen the boot problem on 2016 Fabia before - in our case we managed to open it by pushing down/in on the boot lid while pressing release button. A spray of 3 in 1 oil in the nooks and crannies stopped it from happening again. Hope you are lucky and find an easy solution. Could also just be low battery if it's stood idle for anything over a couple of weeks.
  20. If it was co2 the flame would go out rather than the flame ignite the gas !!
  21. On my Amundsen MIB3 Karoq I had to select on the Infotainment Nav screen settings whether I wanted the map to show on the infotainment screen or in the Virtual Cockpit Dash. On my Columbus MIB3 Superb. Map shows on both displays.
  22. Update: I took the electric wiring out from the car, found few aftermarket connections. One of them is the supposed K line, but didn't have time to check the conductivity for that wire. Will do it by the end of the week and try again. I don't need any fancy gauges from the diagnostic, I just want to read/delete the faulty codes. Because I had a problem with engine power cutting, but found the wiring from hall sensor was burned (probably had contact with the exhaust manifold) because the engine is not in the Felicia, but in Škoda 105L. Will try to connect the wiring to the engine by the end of the week and will give you update. Thank you very much everyone
  23. I emailed Customer Sevices at Skoda UK. They've passed on the query to the relevant department, so I'll give them a few days to see what they come up with.

Ohh, I reassure you, in France, it's the same ****... I find this on my common rail, not sure it is good and perhaps it explain the problem... the curve part is here where the bolt broke... Tomorrow, i check on the cylinder head if it is normal.
  25. Holy crap thats well blocked. I thought mine was bad. I hate EGR. I blanked mine on my old toyota lucida as it was the same and very prone to blocking. Who ever thought of recirculating exhaust gases was a good idea was obviously not a mechanic . Glad you got to the bottom of it. Aladdair
  26. I think the only sensible solution to the oil burning is to drop a replacement engine in, preferably one with low mileage and known condition. Much easier and cheaper than major work on that engine. But with the other problems as well, I think it should be heading toward the scrapyard.
  27. Shame yours has left a bit of a sour taste, as it were. But it’s interesting how our experiences with a car over time can colour our opinions of the model or brand. My 70 plate 1.5 tsi SEL FE, which I bought at 6 months old, was very much a roller coaster of emotions for the first year of my ownership. Within a month Škoda UK asked me to return it to the dealer for diagnostics - got back 5 months later (a similar, but SE FE, loan car was faultless). Since then, and 58,000 miles later, I’d say this car is one of the best I have ever had. Yes, a few s/ware niggles since but overall a great car. Spacious, economical, plenty quick enough, comfortable, reliable. Dealer is excellent too. Would I buy another? Yep!
  28. Hi Guys, Sorry for my bad english ! I m cmoi, I m french and i have a Skoda fabia 1.2 tsi 110 hp , year : 2017. (this is my wife's car) buy new and stock ! The car have 170000 km and It runs perfectly ...until now...lol but It is a good car . cmoi
  29. From Fleet News this morning: "Non-compliant brake fluid warning after stock still available A second safety warning has been issued for a non-compliant brake fluid that could impact stopping distances and degrade braking systems. The warning was issued by the Verification of Lubricant Specifications (VLS) after stock of Mannol Brake Fluid DOT 4 3002 was found to be still available and still non-compliant. In December 2023, VLS received a complaint claiming that the product failed in critical performance areas required for safe brake operation. " https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/non-complaint-brake-fluid-warning-after-stock-still-available?gutid=6419
  30. I have re-read the "symptoms" and I'm not at all convinced it's just the clutch. That said I hope that is all it is. A good indy should be able to do the job for far less. The dealer thinks he has you over a barrel, reason enough to take the car elsewhere.
  31. Ah brilliant. Thanks @JR RS ! I kept using words like "vent" when searching and didn't think to use spoiler. Just ordered the part. Will hopefully be a straight forward process to install when it arrives.

Seventh month stats from the car Mar-Apr 245mile @ 3.7m/kwh = 66.21 [email protected] = £18.49 My Mondeo would have averaged 35 mpg for these 245m @£1.367 litre = £43.06 Long term guessometer now reset. Stat from the GOM the car has been on for 21.28 hours and averaged 12mph.
  33. It is useful to note, however, that newly planted trees absorb CO2 at a faster rate than older more mature trees.
  34. Hello and welcome
  35. I've already created a thread for climate change discussions: The truth about EV is that the tech is advancing and all the problems that anti-EV peeps used to swear by are disappearing one by one.
  36. Actually, I was unhappy with the sun glasses storage. I bought some wrap around lightly tinted sun glasses but they rattle around inside the cubby hole. It was very annoying. I managed to find some foam and glued it in where the sunglasses are kept. The car punished me this morning for negative comments because I'm getting the replace battery key warning for the key fob.
  37. Looking through the brochures for each year can give a guidance as to what was fitted as standard to each model and what was an optional extra. https://autocatalogarchive.com/skoda/
  38. Agree, blue looks great. I’ve enjoyed cleaning my brilliant silver one today! WRT the safety tech, I must admit I don’t find it too intrusive, where I have before - Nissan leaf for example. I’ve got it all switched on still. Anyone got the free miles through yet? I’ve had my car over a week, but not received an update on it. Wonder what timescale to expect based on others experiences?
  39. Happy Easter to you all on this glorious Easter Sunday 🐰🐣
  40. Traffic sign recognition is a bit shonky in my experience anyway. My 2020 L&K will often pass an NSL and declare it a 30, applying the brakes, for example. Sometimes you're bowling along and there's no signs at all, and it suddenly decides it's a 30. On go the brakes. The internal Skoda map (Here maps) or TomTom,Waze or Google maps don't think that bit is a 30. I complained at the dealer, they lent me a courtesy VW with the same system so they could "apply a software update", which made no difference. The VW I borrowed did exactly the same at exactly the same places.
  41. Today taking this thread back to where it all started again, taken me just over 12 years!
  42. Hi. Just replaced nearly whole rear suspension, just left springs. Went for the alignment, and guy adjusted it just front right camber stayed on red as he said there’s no adjustments. He also said to not to worry about. But it is in red and I still have it in my mind. Car is driving fine. Thanks for advice.
  43. I decided to leave Mrs Gaz to it. I've been down the road of showing her loads (20 to be precise) of cars before, and it's really not worth the effort. So I said for her to let me know when she's found something she likes the look of, knowing her gradual increase in parameters would gradually make her realise the task ahead. But she's found something she thinks she likes: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202501037698576?sort=relevance&searchId=74fb65af-7743-4635-8a7c-b48986097e6a&advertising-location=at_cars&colour=Red&make=Mercedes-Benz&model=A%20Class&postcode=bn21%203uu&radius=10&transmission=Automatic&fromsra So she'd be going from a red, five door hatchback...... to a.... errr, red, five door hatchback 🙄 Both on 17" wheels, with 40 AR tyres on the Polo and 45 on the A180 (albeit 215 on the Polo and 225 on the A Class), and going from 192ps to 112ps. Probably a bit better in ride comfort, but I dunno that it'll be all that much? Last time we had such fun, she absolutely would not have 1) a blue car, and 2) anything bigger than her then Golf 3. The car she bought was 1) Blue, and 2) bigger than her Golf 3 🤣 Might go and look at the Merc out of curiosity. Gaz
  44. Well I might be tempted by a one-off payment for the dongle but being tied to a monthly payment for the app that goes with it isn't really on. Thanks for replying though.
  45. Hi, im trying to use the original VAG mic in an aftermarket android radio. Your info and help was very important to understand how the mic works. So if I understand well this is the schematic to wiring the original mic to an aftermarket unit. Is that correct, @xact64? ? @homerj can you finally adapt the original micro to the aftermarket head unit??
  46. Hello all, I am desperately trying to find a decent-quality anti-glare dashboard carpet for our Superb III. At least that's what they were called back in NZ, I think? Basically a thin, dark, mat which covers your dash, without slipping or covering any vents/sensors etc. Any ideas? eBay has them, from China, but the reviews are awful. Much thanks! Paul.
