  1. Front wheel slightly binding is maybe worth addressing, the rest can probably be ignored.
  2. Not a good day at the office today, carpet fitters were a no show which cheesed me off so grabbed the camera and popped over to the coast. Ended up on the causeway to Holy Island.
  3. It does seem high for the work required, Finding a workshop you can trust implicitly is so important I have used the same one for years I'm not sure what I would do if the owner decided to retire.
  4. Is this all really needed? The labour hours are ridiculous IMO. Costed not as the wheels are coming off once, parts stripped, replaced, brake fluid changed, exhaust clamp done. Wheels on, road tested. Half a day morning or afternoon at the most, not needing almost a full days work for a trained mechanic. Maybe an apprentice yes. But not at that hourly rate.
  5. The quadricycle, not car, Ami is/was a very poor vehicle compared to Renault's Twizy IMO. Twizy is much more Agile and was overjoyed to see a long line of them in Norway where they are being used for cruise ship passengers to use to visit sites inland. Also the Twizy looked good in the race in St Petersberg by Top Gear. Not seen the spec on the new Quadricycle Ami, could hardly be a worse vehicle. Very limited appeal for these Quads and now proper cars like the Spring are down to about 10k then even less appeal, assuming one has a full car driving licence and left with quadricycle as the only choice. With the £3750 grant details still unclear but SE Asian car makers keen to get their price cuts in early the choice for high quality cheap and small EVs just gets better week on week. Incredibly low running costs and very capable town cars that can also do a bit of motorway too.
  6. Sounds like a garage we should be avoiding. 😡
  7. I'd seriously consider that everything they are quoting for is unnecessary - apart from the binding front brake.
  8. That needs answering. Not one of those "health check"/upselling check sheets done oh-so-helpfully as part of a simple oil change service, by any chance?
  9. Independent garage, with ex VW group mechanics.
  10. Apparently VAG commenced investigating as soon as they were told. Here is what they told Bleeping Computer. "BleepingComputer has contacted the three automakers asking if they pushed OpenSynergy's fixes. A statement from Mercedes was not immediately available and Volkswagen said that they started investigating the impact and ways to address the risks immediately after learning about the issues. "The investigations revealed that it is possible under certain conditions to connect to the vehicle's infotainment system via Bluetooth without authorization," a Volkwagen spokesperson told us. The German car maker said that leveraging the vulnerabilities is possible only if several conditions are met at the same time: The attacker is within a maximum distance of 5 to 7 meters from the vehicle. The vehicle's ignition must be switched on. The infotainment system must be in pairing mode, i.e., the vehicle user must be actively pairing a Bluetooth device. The vehicle user must actively approve the external Bluetooth access of the attacker on the screen. Even if these conditions occur and an attacker connects to the Bluetooth interface, "they must remain within a maximum distance of 5 to 7 meters from the vehicle" to maintain access, the Volkswagen representative said."
  11. If it is braking with noticeable deceleration, yes and you can easily see at night how your brake lights reflected on road signs or things along the road behind you. To turn off what exactly? Brake light lighting on when car decelerates? Of course not, and why would you want to do it?
  12. When the politics side is in there and people can not see the wood for the trees that just adding to the confusion. The Green agenda is no more corrupt than the Governments being in bed with the heritage manufacturers and allowing corrupt practices. Seemingly there is something on the table to save Alexander Dennis building, or assembling electric busses in Scotland. Suppliers have already paid off employees though. Maybe Alexander Dennis EV busses are just not of the Spec that sone of the operators of Electric Busses in Scotland wanted. Aberdeen City had electric busses not fit for purpose . Out of service. Hydrogen Busses from Wright Bus as well. Lord Bamford of JCB and Boris Johnson's major sponsors son owns that company. Public money into the manufacturers into the bus company and the purchasing of lemons. Politicians and Government / councils and the usual ba-lls ups.
  13. Pro EV blogger and driver even. Actually has skin in the game. This sort of issue which is more than snagging faults is sadly common. Stallantis again like with the Vauxhall Corsa-e and drop links. They were an issue with ICE engines and more so with the additional weight of the EV. Tesla failings with suspension as well. VW with software and charging like with the ID3. It is how they address the issues that matter. Citroen / Stallantis are taking the pith with the Quadricycle as are the Supplying dealer or dealership getting the vehicle on for warranty work.
  14. This takes me back to over 50 years ago after my father retired at 65 in 1973. He'd had company cars for many years that were supplied to him from new, so they were never smoked in. After he retired, they asked him if he'd come back and work for a couple more years as they couldn't fill his place, which he agreed to, and they gave him a Ford Cortina MkIII that a female rep had used, but she was a heavy smoker and the windscreen was cover with scratches inside where she'd wiped the glass with her hands and not bothered about the damage her jewellery was doing. My father had an injury from WWII, so he wasn't able to do too much physical work, so I said I'd give it a good clean. I couldn't do much with the screen, but I cleaned the inside as thoroughly as possible, the metal ashtray being coated in grimy brown that I took out and soaked to get it clean. There was even ash inside the instrument cluster which I couldn't get to, but I've no idea how it got in there in the first place. Like your Superb, the Cortina wasn't completely clear of cigarette smells, but it was 95% better than it was. I even bought him a Feu Orange to hang from the dashboard to eliminate the last 5 % of the smell!
  15. So folks, I’ve done it! I’ve retrofitted the progressive MQB steering rack into the SuperB and it’s awesome! Original rack: 5Q0 909 144 R Progressive rack: 3Q0 909 144 L My 2017 206 came with dynamic steering 2.8 turns to lock and I’ve never loved it. Feels vague on centre and then is not particularly quick to lock. Never felt sporty, even after my coder helped me make the weight heavier using Audi coding/setting. The new rack was from a 2017 RS3 with the progressive ratio and 2.1 turns to lock. In reality it’s more like 2.0 once installed in the SuperB. Install: The mechanic installed it for me today because $@&# that for a joke and also I have no annual leave left. After the physical install by dropping the sub frame, the most painful part was having to drop the glovebox to access the fuse box because the wires lead through the firewall. Rod ends and boots were all re used from my previous rack. Coding: Mechanic ran out of day so I did the VCDS coding tonight in module 44. Old rack coding was 9307. New rack was 91170000. 9307 didn’t work but 93070000 did so I ran with it. After that I did the G85 steering angle calibration. Took a few goes as I wasn’t holding it still long enough. That cleared the 7 million error lights on the dash except for ACC. A restart cleared ACC error. The result: On center it feels much the same as I expected it to but once you get to turns of about 20-30 degrees it’s way sharper/quicker. Feels much sportier now carving corners. The weighting has reverted to the previous stock light weight, even in sport so I will have to go back to my coding wizard for a fresh update to firm it up a little. Overall very happy and I would recommend it. Cost for the rack was AUD $330 used from a wrecker. Mechanic labour will be maybe 3-4hr.
  16. Hi, I have just checked on official Skoda brochures. Superb Estate Mk3 Outer width (w/o mirrors): 1864mm Inner width (rear passengers): 1520mm Kodiaq mk1 Outer width (w/o mirrors): 1882mm Inner width (rear passengers): 1510mm But the inner width seems to be given at door handles according to brochures’ pics. The most interesting value would be the inner width at rear door armrest. I don’t have my Mk3 anymore, but this was a value I had looked at when comparing different Estate models to remplace my Superb Estate Mk2… I don’t know if the Kodiaq is wider for this particular value. Kids have grown and I have only one child seat for the youngest who is 8.5 y.o. now. So, not an issue anymore for me now… 🤷‍♂️ Nevertheless, the legroom for rear passengers is very similar on these both cars.
  17. I don't know what's normal, but there are currently 867 Karoq's in UK inventory, so they're probably quite keen to shift some of them. https://www.skoda.co.uk/apps/stock/carSearch?CarType=N&Model=BIBM&Sort=DATE_OFFER&SortDirection=DESC
  18. @Warrior193 people who mess around with their exterior lighting tend not to care much about suchlike.

Can I suggest random, false warnings.

A regular early sign is the stop/start feature stops working.
  21. Only thing I can think of for a "fuel bowl" is the container/canister that the fuel filter goes into in the engine ? Maybe after taking out the filter they cleaned out the insides of the canister and brushed out the fuel lines going into it, Just a wild guess though :)
  22. Just looked at ours, and you'll be able to get a pretty reasonable measurement through the spokes of the alloys. Looks to be about 10mm or so. This is a pic of my knob-up on that front. Wrong size shiny new disc versus original. Shiny ones had to go back for a refund. Don't assume yours are the same though, measure.
  23. The factory-fitted discs for this reg are 288mm diameter x 25mm thickness. Front brake PR code is 1LN. Genuine front disc part number is 1J0 615 301R, which has been superseded by 6R0 615 301D. Beware of buying any aftermarket discs that do not mention equivalence to these numbers. Not a bad idea to take a wheel off and measure the depth from front face of disc to wheel mounting face, then comparing with sellers' dimensioned drawings too.
  24. Hello, and thanks for the welcome.
  25. Hi, Thats what i thought, considering that most of the work can be done at the same time, i was expecting a quote between £700 - 900!
  26. I did the timing belt and pump on my octy and no drain plug either. Couldn't find a drain on the engine block either so drained via the bottom rad hose but got soaked when I removed pump as there was a fair bit still in the block. Most of my old cars had block drain and rad drain points. Either I missed them or they don't bother fitting anymore. Alasdair
  27. It's a private hire so big pain in the ass
  28. Thanks the fault report says camera field of view problem so think it's the windscreen camera. Only bought the car 4 days ago
  29. Mods. May need to move to mk4 forums. @Tonyduncan it would be a radar unit behind the bumper. They will charge you if it turns out to be just debris as they probably feel that would be caught under maintenance. However, if the unit or wiring is faulty, I would expect they would need to cover all the work.
  30. Even if the replacement battery wasn't adapted (coded) into the vehicles BMS, it wouldn't affect the quiescent current drain when the modules are all correctly in 'sleep mode' - but it could well cause charging and battery life issues while the engine is running. High parasitic battery drain is often the result of equipment changes or additions - apart from the battery, has anything been changed recently?
  31. I've just bought myself a mk3 facelift Scout. Here are the things I've found through research and what I've looked for when buying This is my 2nd mk3 Octavia with a DSG, I'd not go back to a manual gearbox & this is our 2nd Skoda with the Haldex system (1st Yeti 140bhp manual), I live in the Peak District and tow caravans and a horse and found the haldex to be very effective in muddy/snowy/icy conditions but have always run Michelin CrossClimate tyres too (no point in having the haldex system if you don't have the tyre quality to grip). Euro6 Diesel engines only have adblue from 2018 onwards (approx) but all years have DPF's Service History for me is an absolute must. One thing to note is some cars will have a service book and others just have a print out, my car came with a print out from Skoda, don't be afraid if you only have a print out, contact Skoda UK and ask for Service confirmation DSG - Pre 2018 I believe you have the 6speed DQ250 (mine has this on a 2017 plate), newer ones I think have the DQ381 7speed? Check for servicing of this DQ250 - 40,000miles / DQ381 - 80,000miles) Cambelt - 2l tdi Cuna 184bhp engine has varying recommendations usually 4-5years or 60-80k, if its been changed check for the water pump being changed too (I'd always ask for this to be changed at the same time) Brake fluid - initial 3year then every 2 years Haldex - 30k or 3years Tyres - What have been fitted can tell you if little faults will have been fixed (in my opinion), how much tread is left? if less than 3mm budget to replace Brakes - how much of a lip is there on the discs, how much pad is left? if well worn budget to replace Check panel gaps and sign of paintwork Scouts are not off-roaders but are very capable, with that in mind check underneath for damaged sills/broken panels etc Take it for a good test drive, there should be no knocking, the gearbox should be smooth. Check everything works (windows/sunroof/radio/android auto/aircon/heated seats/lights/central locking/check for spare wheel or tyre gloop kit). If it has a panoramic roof look for stains on the roof liner & damp foot wells, the front drain holes are easy to see and clean but the rears are a little more awkward Known Issues DSG - Error service: leave vehicle only when selector in position p. I'm not sure if this is limited to the DQ250 or not but both of my mk3 Octavia's have had this, it doesn't affect the drive but can be costly to repair Panoramic roofs - drain holes become blocked and leak into the cabin (check rear and front roof liner/footwells and boot floor) DPF - not limited to the Octavia but if you don't do enough higher speed miles this can block and cost a lot of money to replace I'm sure there are many more known issues but you can become too fixated on them, every car has known issues! Don't be in a rush, take your time when looking, I've been on the lookout for the last couple of years since we sold our Yeti & it paid off, our Scout has had a very fastidious owner, @64k (2017) it has had Cambelt & waterpump / x2 DSG / x3 Haldex / x2 aircon services, it even came with all the accessories that I would fit (Skoda rubber mats/boot liner/spare wheel). To me all these little things show it has been very well looked after, I also saw it before dealer prep as it came from the previous owner. Just to wet your appetite here's mine
  32. Which is one reason why these independent vloggers are so important in the grand scheme of things, as these are people who can and will expose these events for the benefit of those that are not aware of them. The companies themselves, as we have all witnessed at some point in our lives, will attempt to bury these bad events and silence anyone who dares to speak out about it until such times as the authorities get to find out and demand a recall is carried out.
  33. Soaked mine in vinegar for a few days, blew some air through it and it worked.
  34. Mr IM Jolly is just getting on with earning a crust telling us the stories he finds. The facts are the facts and yes the Vids are for Clicks, he is not changing the world any more than we are posting here or anywhere.. .
  35. HW Number ist not in Relation with SW Number
  36. At the very least, the special tool for removing coil packs without damaging them is strongly recommended.
  37. RAC are crooks. I cancelled a full breakdown policy when I bought the Karoq. With 6 months of cover left they refunded 48p! All carefully buried in the small print.
  38. ah, yes. Despite putting my car details into google and searching for spark plugs, the ones that were found were NOT for my engine!. I then went and looked at a YT video of how to change the plugs (which I should have done before posting....) and quickly learned it's not a simple job.
  39. Had the (4) spark plugs replaced on our 1.2 TSI Fabia in May, Plugs £18.05 +vat, coil pack connectors (4) £14.35 +vat. - so £129.60 +vat for parts - this was my independent who Ive used for 20 years. Maybe they have included the cost of new coil pack extenders with labour ite cost at a dealer could easily be £170 +
  40. Yep, currently £21.65 plus VAT each. That's based on the part number 05E 905 602.
  41. Each to their own, but I'd check the performance testing reviews. Obviously it depends upon financial circumstances, and it's balancing outlay against potential risk/reward Personally, I'd rather have something that stops me that 4,5 or more metres shorter, if someone, or especially a kid steps out. (even when money would run out well before pay day, we always bught best we could) I'd also rather pay that bit extra now, than the insurance increase from a bump over time. It's the same argument that used to be made once ...'remoulds are just as good ' 🤷
  42. After a quite some hours, a fair few quid and a few different attempts at getting rid of the previous owner's smoking habit, I dropped an Airvidox chlorine bomb in the car for the best part of 8 hours on Sunday...the results are good so far. I've already used a mix of Autoglym high foam shampoo, Auto Finesse Total interior cleaner, an Autoglym air con sanitiser, new pollen filter, Dr Leather wipes, and the smell kept on returning, especially on hot days, and especially from the steering wheel and passenger soft trim/pleather between the window and handle when the sun hits it...it's grim...I even unbolted the front seats and vacuumed quite a lot of debris from the hard-to-reach places...The irony is that the interior is pretty much immaculate, apart from the smell, and one small burn/melt on the USB port, which I'll replace at some point. So far, the interior smells fresh and the chlorine smell is gradually going (which I'm happy for it to stay as it doesn't smell of fags!), The steering wheel still has a faint whiff of smoke, but nowhere as bad as it was, so I may leave it a few weeks and do the treatment again. I spent the time pre-cleaning with Airvidox' own interior cleaner (a solution you mix into a bucket of water), and even after I thought I'd cleaned the interior to 'as new' previously, the water had gone from golden to a grim brown once I'd finished, so it obviously picked up even more grime the other cleaners hadn't. So far it's done a lot more than the other cleaners I've used, and cost a lot less...I don't think it's completely eradicated the problem yet, so if required, I'll give it another go a in a few weeks...for around £20, it's certainly been a lot cheaper than the other options I've tried, which in all fairness only clean what you can reach and touch, whereas the gas gets in everywhere, the same as cigarette smoke. Hope that helps any other owners of cars which have been smoked in! Cheers, Nick

    Always fitted fine.
  44. Hello there, I recently had a problem with the speakers on my Superb 3, Canton system. I took off the covers from all 4 doors and I've discovered that on the front doors the bass speakers were stuck and the mid-bass speakers on the rear doors were stuck as well and you could only hear them on a very low volume level. It looks like the first revision of the speakers had an issue with the glue from the magnets that makes the magnet off centered. Even if I tried to push the membrane of the speaker with my hand, they wouldn't move. So I've replaced all 4 speakers with the new revisions: Front door bass speakers: - OLD VERSION: 3V0 035 411 D - NEW VERSION: 3V0 035 411 K Rear mid-bass speakers: - OLD VERSION: 3V0 035 411 G - NEW VERSION: 3V0 035 411 L I'll leave this here, maybe it helps😁
  45. I'm updating this thread because I just replaced the 4 Primacy 4 tires with 45,000 km for the new Primacy 5 tires and installed them at the specialist workshop where I installed the Koni SA tires. There are no vibrations whatsoever, and the car runs better than when I bought it.
  46. You can also turn the volume down at the steering column while its talking. But only while its talking.
  47. Last night's sunset.........
  48. Tonight's sunset................
  49. A couple of shots from the off road day. Instructor took the shot with me hanging. A couple of others messing about with 1000mm
  50. The presenters seemed to think that Jenson Button's Rally-X car was not suited to getting up the hill quick, it certainly was.
